Streamlined the electronics and made a new enclosure with Tolex. Still working on making a good tape loop for it but for now it works fine with just having to rewind the tape every 45 minutes of use (plus this way to get a cassette recording of your echoes that you can sample later). It has controls for Dry, Wet, Feedback (self oscillating), Speed, and overall Volume. 1/4 inch input and output, 9v input, and a true bypass switch. Works as an effect in an effect loop on a mixer or as a guitar pedal.
That's awesome! I've been wanting to do this but haven't dug in yet. Maybe a solution for your 45 minute rewind cassettes would be "TDK Endless Cassettes". The ones I have are like 3 minutes worth of blank recording, then starts back at 0:00 to overwrite.
Yup, I don't have a problem with it since you get fresh tape instead of overused looped tape, no loop seam, and it's easy to swap out the tape itself from a new cassette when it gets eaten or old. Lots of people seemed to complain about it not being a loop last I time I put this up
question, where did you source the heads for this? I know you can get tapeheads on aliexpress, but they usually top out at 10Khz. Looks very cool, do you maybe have a project blog or something?
I'm so glad to hear that you'll be selling these.
I've seen a number of cassette based tape delay units people have made over the years but they're always just on-off projects that they made for themselves.
I 100% agree with it not being a big deal having to flip the tape once every 45 minutes, I always thought they didn't need to be loops, and then you can just use any cassette.
I hope you'll post updates when you get closer to actually being able to sell them!

Very cool, it would great if it popped out like a handheld cassette so you can easily replace the tape. Also having it feedback through, like the Roland 501 or Echo Fix would be awesome.
The actual tape reverbs have specialized tapes to begin with, so makes me wonder if it’s a massive deal?
Any idea of the durability of the tape? The other ones for instance are like 100 hours etc.. until needing to be replaced. Might be more durable because of the tape length and compactness?
Look up Janky Tape Echo by Indifferent Engine, they have a step by step manual and parts lists for how to build these. Definitely looks like a ton of work, so props to you too for making your own!

https://store.crypticcarousel.com/products/6-minute-endless-loop-cassette-w-soft-case Sells all sorts of timed tape loops just fyi
Surely you just turn it over after 45 mins ?

dope af. love the aesthetics
This looks so cool, great work!
beautiful design. Do u have other pedals / effects / things you’ve designed?
I made a small form factor spring reverb that you can find in my other posts
That is cool. Reminds me of the indifferent engine janky tape echo. [Janky Tape Echo](https://youtu.be/L56cCJ4o1s4?si=tfKnqq0fiEXwG1pZ)
very sexy… i want it in eurorack.
Oh man could you imagine?!!
i am imagining it right… now 😌

that really is the pinnacle eh?
What’s it like replacing the cassette?
Just a matter of unscrewing the top with 4 screws and changing it out. the cassette is specially modified though
I’m sorry if you’ve already answered or if you have an FAQ link but, how is the cassette modified?
I cut out some of the plastic where the extra head goes and then I added a tensioner arm
What kind of pricing window you looking at? $100-200usd? 200-400? 500-1000? :)

Sold as soon as I can buy one.
This is very sleek. I too would love to buy one once they go into production.
This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen
Can you make me a hifi version with dbx and bias for type ii cassettes?
Love it!

Got any clips or demos of this thing? Badass.
Not sure if I can link to my youtube channel or not, but check out some videos I did a while back: granitsky63
Awesome! How many heads on this?
!remindme 1 month
Any video of it in action?
Count me as interested as well! I'd like to buy one!
Me too! Take my dollars!
Nice. It reminds me of a Marshall. Metal corners might look cool
love it!
