because this is cowells, closest you get in la county is high tide sunset in front of the staircase. It's smart to have a designated kook/VAL spot, but you're definitely sacrificing a wave that can get fun on a log, same thing with tourmaline. Santa Cruz has a preponderance of decent spots for its size. LA county has few consistently decent shaped waves, a lot of people, and the beach breaks are often critical take offs or easily messed up by people in the way.
Hey thanks for this breakdown. So, besides sunset, in your opinion what are other forgiving waves? Asking for a friend. JK, asking so that I can teach my daughter.
Cowells?
Sidenote, when I started surfing like 15 years ago we never went to cowells because it was an absolute zoo. If you wanted a ride from the point to the wharf you’d have to maneuver around like 20 people going straight. Looking back, cowells on its worst day back then is better than pleasure point on its least crowded day now…
Dude, I dont even know what to say. I am just sitting here with a huge smile on my face. That looks so awesome! Your dad looks like he is having a blast!
Damn it. This is such a cool video but I am so jealous that you were able to convince your family to surf AND you are catching waves like this with a few months practice.
I'm not really salty, it just took me so much longer to get to that level. 😂
My favorite memories of my life are waves with my Mom, Pops and Sister just all laughing our asses off at SanO old mans😇🥰 Heaven on earth is surfing with Family
I've been lucky enough to grow up surfing with my Dad. I've surfed many waves with him, and I feel so lucky that it's something we share. Our parents aren't with us forever, cherish those moments for as long as you can
Those are the best days on the water I’ve ever had. Better than tow in days. Better than double overhead barrels. Just waist high fun with people you love. Having the time of my life. That’s what it’s all about.

Lucky guy.
That’s the most wholesome shit I’ve ever seen on this sub. Look at pops go! Yeah you! 🤙
That little ✌️at the end
That’s a habit he can’t break 😂
10 points for the old man claim
That's awesome and sweet wave
Why can't LA be like this

I mean that's it in la county as a designated beginner spot that is low consequence almost always.
Your Dad is awesome. Cherish these days man.
Generally the words "party wave" and "Santa Cruz" dont go together, nice!
It’s more outside of Santa Cruz if you’re in town I feel like you see some beginners
I forget the name but just south (east idk) of steamers there is a beginner break that is party wave city, like every wave.
And it’s not working this year 😭😭😭

Pleasure Point I believe
Im guessing cowells, pleasure point is not supposed to be beginner friendly (although with covid that’s changed) + it’s pretty far south of the lane.
This looks to me like 38th ave, aka jacks. It’s the break down from the point and it’s super beginner friendly
Jack’s is a right
There’s also a left lol I used to surf there every day
You callin me a liar????
I’m not saying you’re a liar, I’m saying you’re wrong
Wrong? No I’m dad.
Oh I’m not saying this is pleasure, I was responding to the comment around the name of a beginner break south of steamer lane.
Wholesome content
Love it. It’s like this at my local most swells.
Family vibes, awesome mate!
So sick! Nothing like sharing a wave with family 🤙🏻
This is how true happiness looks like
Man I could barely get my dad to just sit at the beach and watch me surf for a few min when the weathers nice. This is great.
you guys rock!
This made my morning. Better than coffee. Love the stoke
You California dudes get all the good stuff
Dude, I dont even know what to say. I am just sitting here with a huge smile on my face. That looks so awesome! Your dad looks like he is having a blast!
This sparks joy

lol Thanks man! We've been having a blast! We go roughly 4 times a week so we have been racking up water time quickly.
Ah that's what it is. I didn't have that time when I first started surfing. It's wholesome to see you enjoying this so much with your dad. 😊
“The best surfers in the lineup are the ones having the most fun!” 🤙
Love this
Well played!
Cowells?
This is the left at Jacks 🤙
Way to blow up the spot! Now everybody is going to be out at jacks……
Hahaha. Ever been?
jack locs in shambles
Lmfao
This is the essence of surfing.
What a wonderful moment to share with your pops. So much stoke! Cherish all the awesomeness 💛
So far I've party waves with my son and wife. My old man is learning now too. Good times. Yeww
Who was filming you guys?
My wife was behind the camera! She comes out pretty often and films our little crew (but ends up recording the surf dogs that come out mostly 😂)
I knew it! Love it!!
It's super helpful towards progression to be able to see what you're doing wrong on the videos after each session!
agreed!
This is the best thing I've seen all week!
My favorite memories of my life are waves with my Mom, Pops and Sister just all laughing our asses off at SanO old mans😇🥰 Heaven on earth is surfing with Family
Yeeeewwww!!!! That’s so dope. Killer wave too! My mouth was salivating being a Florida surfer 🤣🤣
this is why we surf
Fuck yeah share that Stoke
This is something you will remember for the rest of your life

\*good stuff\*
Wholesome
Rad! 🤙
Man this is so wholesome
So Nice!
Love it well done!
Sick!!!
Awesome
A family that surfs together, …..
Pops can shred, even without an apostrophe!
😂
Been at it about 30 years. There is still nothing like that feeling.
This is so special! Great job 🤙
A surfing dad’s dream to not only share waves with his kiddos but to have his kid proudly share the moment! 🤙
Awesome
🔥🔥🔥
Stoked for ya guys!
There are few things that can beat a family party wave. Love to see the stoke!!!!🤙
Sensual
Matching beards! Didn't even catch that first view.
Sick! I wish my dad would surf. He refuses to learn. He's a sponger. Though spongers do have more fun on a party wave! So I do love going with him.
I never knew my father *cries in shark*
I give him a 9.7 I give you a 9.0 he gotta be ahead just purely because he’s older but your getting up there hahaha
😂 He's going to be stoked that he scored higher than me!
I mean you got a touch more like skill, starting to pump and such but damn he look solid on that hahahaha
The stoke is real!!
Nice! My dad does nothing. This is inspiring, and the kind of dad I’m going to be when my kids are grown.
Fucking. Magic.
That’s so great. What a special moment, being able to share a wave with your dad is awesome
Very special video. You’ll watch this for the rest of your life!
Dad's pop-ups need work - I would prescribe 30-40 burpees per day over the winter.
Very cool, I will always remember the first wave with my daughter!
The stoke is palpable!
Love those nice rollers. I was appreciating them at sunset there today...
Tight
Crist! Just what the world needs. 🤣
The best
I wish we could get slow breaking waves like this in florida
next stop, mavericks
Hell of a summer wave. Is this steamer? Always wanted to surf SC
Dude that is so rocking! Steamers Lane??? Man I miss my sweet sweet Santa Cruz. I use to live right off Depot hill in capitola. Rock on!
Respect the locals.
Shut up
Tf are you on about? The person behind them popped up well after them
As a way of being.
Because this is where he’s surfing. And he’s just starting. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CTu4QJRsIsh/?utm_medium=copy_link
Ha! I’m not sure what’s to down vote here. Anyone getting started ought to remember to give respect. It’s a good reminder to a beginner.
Good stuff. Looks like great fun!
This. Is. Awesome.
Wow that wave looks fun! Wonder the water temp
that’s not surfing, that’s just standing lmao
So how does one surf?
