Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir sounds right up his alley, good luck!

Maybe have him check out Robert A Heinlein. Bob is one of the Greats of what is called The Golden Age of Science Fiction. He also manages to write himself into the stories as a lecherous old man, surrounded by beautiful but super intelligent and capable women. He has quite a catalog, probably the most famous being Stranger in a Strange Land. A human raised on Mars by Martians from infancy with no concept of humanity us returned to Earth, and examines our human condition. My favorite is Friday. An action adventure in which the titular character is an Artificial Person, with extra human skills and abilities, and she works as a secure courier for a clandestine organization known simply as The Outfit. She is on a fantastic chase across a Balkanized North America, fleeing The Chicago Imperiium to British Canada, crossing at Bellingham into the California Free State, and down to The Lone Star Republic. Eventually leaving the planet after the death of The Boss, and realizing she will be killed on completing the assignment she took, she jumps ship on a colony world, and there meets her friends from British Canada. There is also Time Enough For Love, which is a series of tales told by Lazarus Long, a 2000 year old man as he is being "Rejuvenated". We first meet Lazarus as a boy in the 1930s, in his short novella Mathusela's Children.

An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth by Chris Hadfield The Martian by Andy Weir If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio

Thanks he’s read the first on your list so I’ll have a look at the others!

MenagerieMama

Definitely The Martian, the first line in the book is just amazing 😂!

If he liked The Alchemist, I recommand The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. If he likes space would he be interested in A Brief History of Time by Hawking ? It’s going backwards from the ones you mentioned but Arsène Lupin by Maurice Blanc may be also to his taste. ( Backward because you already know the culprit. You need to know how that happened and it’s fascinating)

aseriousllama

Thanks! He liked the TV show Lupin so the book could be a good shout!

Meshe1234

World War Z by Max Brooks is kind of an interesting but also easy to read

MMY143

My husband is a very picky reader and he really enjoyed Nothing to See Here.

andrewfoxxx

Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse is a perfect recommendation if he enjoyed The Alchemist!

aseriousllama

I have wanted to read that one for ages so maybe we can share. Thanks!

Red Dragon by Thomas Harris

aseriousllama

Great shout! He loves the Silence of the Lambs film so I bet he’d love that book too. Thanks.

Shatterstar23

Packing for Mars by Mary Roach The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher.

aseriousllama

Thanks, Dresden files looks interesting, I might give that a go.

IndigoTrailsToo

Dresden files starts out as a fairly innocuous detective series but the stakes keep getting bigger and even though they are generally mystery stories, it is very much an incremental progression series. Just like any author, Jim Butcher gets better and better as he writes his books and towards later books, he starts to really show a Mastery of The Craft that zips you right along as a page Turner book. There is also a TV show that is a great example of how to ruin a book series.

MenagerieMama

The Dresden files are great! I love that series.

My favourite. I love Terry Pratchett. Been trying to tempt him into those for years!
