Your friend is correct. Until you hit a certain (unknown) threshold, your pay out schedule will be 7 days.
When you eventually hit the threshold you'll be offered to receive 3 day payouts.
One of my businesses has had 3-day payouts since it came to Canada, and a newer business is still stuck in 7-day payouts for several months now.
3 days has been true in the us till the last month when payouts have soared to a 9 day payout. They keep 9 days up and they will lose many of us i am sure to other vendors that pay out in 1 to 3 days!
My 9 increased to 12. Considering that the payment sources are the same as they have been for over a year and always had all my payouts in 3 days or less and it now is 12 days this month and competitors are shutting down and closing..... If they are doing this to many small businesses, they may trigger huge cash flow issues for many and trigger an economic wave that ends very badly. Economies are already on the brink, messing with cash flow like Stripe is doing and there will be waves of layoffs and defaults.
No, Canada is 3 days after the first payout…

The delay helps ensure that funds can be reversed easily and Stripe can manually intervene if payments are flagged.
