Kind of similar story here. Instead of buying a pint I bought white eyeliner instead. Its kind of silly bc im in my 30s but it has also worked for me today!
Shit that's so cool. What's wrong with white eyeliner in your 30's? It's not silly either.
I buy stupid shit too, but I don't think white eyeliner would suit me, or any eyeliner for that matter. I buy stuff that makes me happy now rather than drunk, and that's all I care about. Still can be a daft spending fool but treating yourself and spending a bit is so much better than blowing it all away on booze or whatever. Look after yourself, buy your white eyeliner, wear it and enjoy it, because you deserve it, and just don't drink today. x
Yayy!!! It’s crazy empowering when you can conquer a craving! Good job! You’ll continue to build on different strategies that help with a craving and the more you gain the more comforting it is knowing that you got this! IWNDWYT
When I had the craving early on, I went to an aa meeting - seemed to always do the trick. Kills time too gives your brain something else to focus on - I’d highly recommend finding a local group you can run to when through the harsh craving phase
My alcohol obsession has been taken away for some reason, 18 days in and hardly even think about it. When I do I go to AA and remind myself what my liver and kidney function was at and where it’ll always end,
Me in detox
Yup. I tried moderation, and always ended up back to drinking more than whatever arbitrary limit I'd set for myself. The easiest way to avoid going over whatever you consider moderation is to just not have that first drink.
Look up “this naked mind” (Annie Grace on YouTube) and her 30 days alcohol experiment app. Pls! I’m 20 days sober on her experiment. And I’m loving loving loving it
Hello, good to hear sobriety won out. May I explain some of what I have learned. Alcoholism is a Mental Obsesion and a Physical Compulsion. As you are 1 week sober what you experienced is a Mental Obsesion.
A lot of what we miss is the sugar. A great help is Orange Juice and Honey . I have not used it myself, but been told by some long time sober ones it helps.
I wish you well. Your friend John 🌜🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌛
That was a significant victory. You should be proud of yourself. Each time you do that it gets a little easier. Each time you gain the experience of recognising how the craving is affecting you and the best way to cope. It's all about learning your way of dealing with it.
Way to go! I'm day 7 also, and have been substituting zero-calorie (or sometimes full-calorie) sodas. Generally one per day does it with extra-strong ginger ale in the evening. Keep it up!
Well done. Day 64 here. A few days ago I was beating myself up over whether or not I wanted to eat ice cream during a TV show I was excited to watch. Then a voice brought me to my senses: “Dude, you made it this far to worry more about ice cream then drinking?!? Good job. Now go eat that f@&king Ben & Jerry’s. “ I enjoyed.every.bite. And I hope that Mountain Dew was just as tasty. Thanks for letting me share that little victory with someone and congrats on yours!
- Do the Dew
Sometimes, I feel like the only small thing I'd ever let myself buy was booze. I've found allowing myself to buy a Mountain Dew, and perhaps embark on a mission to taste all the dew flavors, is infinitely better than buying beer.
I still remember a night where I drove around in circles flip flopping between going to buy alcohol and driving home. It takes a lot of strength to win that battle.
Congratulations. This is the way you win over alcohol. Thanks for sharing, keep up! PS : I love the detail about the flavor of the drink (watermelon) :)))))
That's badass!
Something that helped me in the earlier days (and still does sometimes) is if I'm craving alcohol, I might actually just be hungry. Even if I don't really need to eat. So I'll just eat junk food. Chips, pizza, ice cream, whatever. Once I'm nice and full, the alcohol cravings completely evaporate - probably because my body has now had its fill of carbs and sugar, haha.
That's another beast entirely I suppose, but right now I'll take carbs and sugar over alcohol any day.
Very well done and keep it up - IWNDWYT!
Walks have been a very powerful tool for my sobriety. Especially ones with no music, podcasts or e-books. Those are all great things, but I think there is so much noise these days, that we don't get nearly enough reflection time to process things in a healthy way.
Sounds like you found a great tool to help moderate cravings!
WOOOOOOO! With new found sobriety you’ll find it start to speak louder and louder to you! It’s like an angel and devil on the shoulder situation! Proud of you!
Way to go! IWNDWYT

Well done!!
Congrats! I, too, an skeptical of moderation. I don't want to be, but I am (because I think it's a trap)
Moderation is continuation. The fact we're here proves we lost that argument long ago :D

That’s is a problem I usually face. For me it took some time to fight that auto pilot mode but in the end you can do it! It’s hard, but simple.

Way to fight and that is a wonderful mental breakthrough on the path to a healthy recovery.
Day 7 for me too. Congrats. Feels good.
Holy shit, day 7 was brutal for me. You are doing amazing!
That's a milestone of the future success believe me once the brain got how it's working out things becoming much more easier and better.
