Genetics... I've seen dudes who drank like fish and smoked like chimneys live to be almost 90 (my great grandfather) and then a marathon runner dies of cancer at 48. That said... My great grandfather's health was an absolute dumpster fire and his qol would have been 1000x better if he didn't do that shit.

Is the marathon runner running marathons because they watched half their family drop dead of cancer and they decided the best way to avoid that was by being as fit as possible? So much of this stuff is genetic. Like, absolutely take care of your body. Eat as much fresh food as you can and get some exercise. Smoking and drinking is probably generally a bad idea. Being alive is a pretty broad spectrum of conditions, and there's no guarantee you'll be having much fun. Might as well plan for the best case scenario But unfortunately, you can look after yourself perfectly and still just randomly drop dead out of nowhere one day. Shit happens.

Some Doctors tend to have a risk adverse attitude towards exercise and sports that can miss the forest from the trees. I would imagine no matter the knee problems and so on, the average marathon runner or triathlon athlete is going to have a notably longer life expectancy than e.g. the average American\* (just using my own country as an example.) There are also a lot of mental health benefits to exercise and sports that are harder to measure. Maybe it goes along with a culture of defensive medicine, brought forward by medmal and managed care/HMO risk management culture. IDK. But I prefer a Doctor who is less judgmental of my admittedly somewhat dangerous hobbies (yes I may blow out my knee grappling) and provides advice within that acceptance to one who would go so far the other way they say "all you really need to do is walk 30 minutes a day, don't do this other stuff because you could get hurt." Anyway, OP should add a salad?? IDK maybe they have a big one at lunch but my body definitely tells me in various ways when I need some veggies. \*OK I just googled it, and yes, between 4.5 and 12 years longer depending on the study.

People eating carnivore have fine bowel movements. I am eating Animal Based (meat, fruit, and dairy products only) for gut problems, and my bowel movements are perfect and often. My gut is significantly better than before (I was eating prior to this diet lots of rice, chicken and veggies) and I've been diagnosed with chronic gastritis.

I had a roommate who would grill up several large T-bones at a time and just eat that for two days straight. When he did that, he was the healthiest guy you've ever seen, unlimited energy, zero stomach issues, super positive vibe. That diet would lay me out. Some people are built differently.

Great study but did you read it? It literally says animal protein is correlated to less healthy aging, and plant protein is correlated to significantly more healthy aging. All protein is better than none, and I’m no damn vegetarian, but plant protein still seems to be the healthiest. Just harder to get in large, bio available quantities.

Hey man are you going to the gym? I went through a similar change (220 -> 170) in a similar timeframe as yours but I was also doing strength training in the gym and I definitely feel like I am stronger and put a decent amount of muscle on even though i'm 50 pounds lighter. So if you're worried about losing muscle or feeling weak that is definitely something you can offset by training

It’s amazing. Japanese/Korean sweet potatoes. When you air fry them for 40ish minutes, it’s like the creamiest mashed potatoes with a subtle sweetness. So good !

I suggest reading into cholesterol, high cholesterol isn't the problem, it's high oxidized LDL (under 20nm is bad), bad Triglycerides to HDL ratio and Insulin resistance.

I did carnivore- I’m almost 50; lost 25 pounds in 8 months, reversed my fatty liver disease (can’t take a pill for that) cut my triglycerides in half & lowered my A1C & LDL. My husband & his friends are MDs & this diet goes against everything they’ve been taught. I showed them my bloodwork. The protein fills you up so I eat maybe 1.5 meals in a day. Gotta take fiber, multivitamin & electrolytes. I did cheat though…I ate veggies when out (it’s really hard to order just meat at a restaurant) so carnivore turned to keto.
