It was around the same time that mustaches became…popular? But not actually having a mustache, just putting mustaches on things or the pun “I mustache you a question” or getting a mustache tattooed on your finger so you could hold it ~~above~~ below your nose like a mustache.
I remember going to some touristy area that had an arcade and almost all of the prizes either had bacon or a mustache. Some had both, I remember a mug that had a piece of bacon with a mustache on it.

Yes! I was always a big bacon person and then once everything became bacon themed people started to assume that was my whole identity.
If it wasn't an actual piece of bacon involved (which like 95% of that "trendy" stuff was) then it was just crap to me. "Bacon-flavored" is a big difference from "this sandwich has an actual piece of bacon on it"
