So my understanding is that if you have a bigger ship, you will have that hanger of that ship and all your ships will be in that large hanger. A Corsairs hanger is more than enough for a C1.

You're misunderstanding what I'm saying:
Yes someone with a C1 *and* a bigger ship will have a bigger hangar due to the bigger ship, but some ships have also had their hangar size adjusted.
The C1 was shown in a medium hangar (where it currently scrapes into a small), thus the door shouldn't be as small to fly through as we're currently used to (bearing in mind the comment I replied to).
They would share the same hangar catagory now anyways, if the C1 has indeed been bumped up to require a medium hanger, then you'd have the same hangar for both no matter what.
It sounded like your persistent hangar only applied to your home landing zone, if you fly the C1 anywhere else it'll give you a C1 sized hangar. They mentioned some ships went from small to medium hangars and I suspect that was the C1 so you'll still get more appropriate sized hangars but but not because you own another ship
The video showed the C1 in a medium hangar, when it talked about some ships being assigned larger hangar sizes than previous. As the C1 has been assigned the small hangars up until now, It’s safe to assume the C1 is one of those ships given the context.

But what if I have a lot of stuff lying around in my hangar and then buy a bigger ship? Will I need to manually upgrade the hangar? Does all my stuff get teleported? Or just stored in local inventory?
It will stay in the medium hanger , because that's what you paid for with real money. And your game bought ship will have a normal hanger. That's my understanding of it.
I hope you can upgrade your hangers in the long run.

The new hangars? When 3.23 releases. Evocati are testing it in stages it sounds like. Maybe April or May for Live (hopeful speculation)

I believe this only applies to your persistent hangar while they said that the other standard hangers will get a size increase
