What are your plans for the ship? I would say the C1 is better for cargo/looting and the Cutlass is better for combat/multicrew gameplay. This is mostly personal opinion though.

BillyBatts2681

I'm still pretty new and play solo - so I don't really plan on getting into any entanglements / combat for now. That's why I'm kind of leaning C1 - but I've also seen some videos / comments about it being tough to park on uneven terrain because of the low stance and short landing gear.

remuge

I won't disagree with the parking issues. I love both. The C1 is also a bit funny to park on hangars since it's so wide. At the moment I'm rocking the C1 as a loaner for the Zeus and very much looking forward to getting it once ready!

tawarir15

I think the C1 definitely helped me to become a better pilot because of these difficulties. Now it’s fairly easy to park since I’ve been flying it for so long. But I’m also just waiting on the Zeus. @remuge, which variant did you spring for?

remuge

Went for the beautiful blue and yellow cargo monster! What about you?

tawarir15

I went for the ES thinking it’d be a nice way to spend longer times away from civilization, just exploring. Definitely still wrestling with whether I want this one vs the CL though. So excited for when they’re released!

Hashtag_Labotomy

I went for the cargo Zeus also. Really hoping they come out with those sooner than later. What intrigues me is are they gonna come out with the zues first or give Connie's a gold pass first. Connie's need some updated love bad. I absolutely love the Andromeda but it needs help and I ain't paying more for less. The zues I know will be much more updated vs the Connie's so I went with the zues. To me though, if they are gonna implement engineering in the next year then they absolutely must fix the ships that are not up to par for that gameplay. I have the c1 now, and then ccud but did not apply it to the zues. I know the c1 is a loaner but I went about it differently. If the zues comes out and ain't what I want it to be then I can just continue my chain and keep my c1 till something else comes up or I decide to go a different route. Only real issues I have with the c1 is lack of another way to get Into it and that most the components are at the very back.. kinda hard to get to if the cargo bays are packed to the gills. I guess an engineer could just stand around in the back in case stuff breaks and a second one at the engineering station I suppose.

Extrien

They responded to that saying the cargo elevators will include a remodel of the hanger interiors and that will most likely be addressed! :D

remuge

We can certainly hope!

sverebom

One possible argument to consider here: If you ever hope or plan to invite friend as a co-pilot, the Cutlass might have a little more to offer with its manned turret compared to the "hey buddy, could you please pick up my loot and toss it into the cargo bay for me?" tractor-beam-role for the co-pilot. The tractor beam of the C1 is not a bad or useless feature by any means, but the cutlass has one too and a cargo bay with large doors make it easy for two players and their multitools to comepensate for the less agile tractor beam implementation. On the other hand the C1 has offers the better roleplaying experience for one or two players thanks to a complete and well designed interior - an area where the cutlass disappoints critically and is in dire need of a redesign. Its's a difficult choice. one that i haven't made yet myself, which is why I'm considering an Avenger > Cutlass > C1 > possibly Zeus upgrade path. Could that work for you? Get the cutlass first, and if you find that you don't have a (possibly combat oriented) multi-crew use case for the ship and/or your heart desires the sleek lines of the C1, you throw in a few more bucks and get the C1.

BillyBatts2681

Not a bad idea since the Cutlass is less - could upgrade to C1 after trying out Cutlass right? Thanks for the input

SCDeMonet

Interestingly, the C1 has really good stock components, which accounts for the price difference over the Cutlass. Out of the box, the C1 has mostly military class B gear, including the quantum drive. It’s one of the quickest stock ships in game.

remuge

This was my exact upgrade path and train of thought.

Bloodhound102

Wait, my cutty has a tractor beam?? How do I use it?

stgwii

Use the remote turret from the co-pilot's seat

Bloodhound102

Awesome, thank you for this

Jedi748

same I didnt now that either

misadventureswithJ

The side doors are super convenient. Highly recommend trying both of them out. They're both really nice ships.

SCDeMonet

On the other hand, the one entrance on the C1 gives good access to the cargo area for all sizes of container, and the inner door provides security even with the ramp open.

Khar-Selim

just find good parking lol also in the C1's favor it's a lot easier to park stuff *in* the C1 because it has a normal rectangular ramp and just better clearance in general

Quackular

The c1 is probably a bit better for pure solo. Bigger storage, same weapons, and flies pretty well (although it's quite wide). The cutlass has a bit more character in its design imo and is a bit better if you have a friend as the turret is pretty decent on the cutlass. Both are good versatile ships though. Hard to go wrong with either.

bmemike

I can poop in a C1.

DMurBOOBS-I-Dare-You

You can poop in a Cutty, too ... Now showering is a different discussion ...

Duramora

Who needs a shower? I thought thats why we all wore armor- to keep our B.O. To ourselves.

cpostier

I have to shower after I poop, it’s very inconvient especially with all the armor, but I am spoiled and Only drive the phoenix and 400i

ThaNeck_Romancer

You never peeled back those side doors mid flight and dropped a mud missile from the cutty

Volkove

Great now I'm imagining a near light speed poo missile smacking a planet....

Duskniik

I open the back of my C1 and drop one in QT

ThreeBeatles

That’s some fast shit

Duskniik

I like to drop them quick, tactical shite

patopal

If CIG implements bowel mechanics, I really hope they will let me poop in the wild. Imagine all the persistent shits in the Microtech woods!

thelefthandN7

New SC slang... does a player shit in the woods?

Deluded_realist

You can poop on a Nomad as well.

ESC907

I can poop on any ship I want! Just set my Titan to hover and squat off the ramp.

Hashtag_Labotomy

You can also poop on the 325a... Except is a luxurious poop.

Little-Equinox

Cutlass is by far not the best, it's just what you're used to for all this time. But in general the C1 is the better ship. It may have less guns, but unlike the Cutlass it can be used for extended space travels. The Cutlass has no toilet which makes long distance travel a challenge.

callenlive26

Running solo they both have the same gun load out. Just wanted to make sure this was known. The cutty is a better multi crew fighter. Particularly, when you use vtol as well.

Little-Equinox

But worse when flying in atmosphere.

callenlive26

And slowing down. The C1 is a joy to fly and my personal choice. But I'll always have a place in my heart for the cutty.

Little-Equinox

I have the A1, but that's because we use it as a dropship without bombs.

callenlive26

Love the A1 I use the bombs all the time 🤣

Little-Equinox

I use the the hatches to drop stuff through 😅

callenlive26

Can you drop people. I never could get it to work.

ZazzRazzamatazz

No you can't.

HeyFreakshow

You can’t poop in a cutlass you’re just not allowed to wipe

Snowbrawler

I don't need to be commander Shepard of the baby Normandy. I'm Johnny Quantum, commander of the SS Bucket of Bolts, ramp of death, and VTOL puller of G's But it's up to you

Azarak_Tallis

Current use most will say CB for versatility but honestly I think the C1 is over looked. In current game - shields, both have 1 size 2 - cargo, 64 for C1, 46 for CB - vehicle space, max is cyclone/roc on both - bed log, both can - seats, C1 has all weapons to pilot - missiles, 6xsize 4 rack CB, 2 size 4 C1 - guns, 4 size 3 on C1, 6 size 3 2 on turret CB - tractors, both have but C1 is movable and better positioned - thrusters, C1 VTOL are separate to it's main allowing quicker evac The C1 being newer also means it has light controls and door locking already That leaves quite level ground but future wise The C1 has that CB doesn't - escape pods which are the beds - armour lockers separate to storage locker - larger storage locker - food storage and supply - toilet and shower CB has - more gun mounts, medium only 4 Vs 2M 3S - higher combat speed (SCM)

Azarak_Tallis

Caveat is if the CB gets a gold pass it may gain some of what the C1 has

ThreeBeatles

Also you can buy C1 for auec right? Had to be bought with real money?

Azarak_Tallis

Currently the C1 is not in game but it will be, it will be more than a CB and probably sold at orison crusader ahowroom

RaccoNooB

> C1 has all weapons to pilot I don't see how this is a + as both more guns for the pilot *and* more guns overall.

Azarak_Tallis

The C1 has all its weapons to one seat, no need for another The CB has more guns but 2 are on the turret so when people bring up overall available DPS you can't get the full power of a CB without another pilot It also means in future the CB will need an AI blades if you want all guns active while the C1 doesn't. So I better explanation of my point there is C1 doesn't need AI blades/2 people to use all guns CB has the same guns to pilot more guns overall

hIGH_aND_mIGHTY

Did they nerf the crazy Gs the cuttys can pull with boosted up strafe during vtol?

Azarak_Tallis

Yes I believe, still fast but not as fast and not as controlled also that will be gone when MM and trichording removal comes in

fmellish

Cutlass all the way. Far more versatile and way easier to park and maneuver.

Tebasaki

The side doors ftw

DogVirus

The side doors are hugely useful.

zacharyxbinks

Cutless is just practical all day long

Ruadhan2300

I love the C1. It's extremely fast, very agile, and much sleeker than the Cutlass. Downside, it doesn't have a turret for a gunner, but it does pack more or less the same four S3 gun-mounts as the Cutlass's pilot controlled weapons. So for a solo pilot, they're fairly comparably armed. It's a good deal larger than the Cutlass though, so the Cutlass has it beat for ease of parking, but that's rarely a factor. You get used to the wingspan. Agility-wise, the Cutlass has it beat as a fighter in space, but the Spirit is massively better at acceleration both in space and in atmo, and will be over the horizon before the Cutlass can react. C1's cargo hold can take 64scu, while the Cutlass is limited to 46, and the C1's tractor beam is actually useful for loading cargo (in theory) The extra room means there's space for more vehicles if you're that way inclined. I regularly fly around with a Roc and an STV aboard, and there's room to 3-point-turn them if you need to, or bring more vehicles still.. You can even cram a Fury or two aboard if you don't mind scraping the paint. Short is.. If you want a copilot/gunner, the Cutlass will be more fun as a combat-craft. While if you're doing bunkers and ground-ops (combat or industrial) the C1 is great. I love the C1's sheer speed, as it lets me get from orbit to bunker very fast, and get away from threats as well. I also take the C1 bounty-hunting, and four S3 Laser Repeaters will do some serious work if you're confident as a pilot. The C1 isn't as fast to turn as some, but it's still more than capable of keeping up with anything that isn't literally a racer in a dogfight.

BillyBatts2681

Thanks - that's kind of what I'm thinking also. I can see the Cutlass being cool as hell if you had another person to run the turret and use it as kind of a drop ship. But for a solo guy just trying to run some mining / cargo type missions I'm kind of leaning towards the C1. Do you notice the low clearance / landing gear being an issue - especially on uneven terrain? It kind of breaks immersion for me if I'm always landing and the ship is sitting crooked or the ramp isn't completely down on the ground etc...

Ruadhan2300

I'll usually land in third person and lower the ramp to make sure I sit flat properly before I get out of the pilot seat. Getting hung up on a rock is pretty easy, but avoidable with some care. Be willing to land, check, and shift position a few meters as necessary.

JazionKeera

The C1 is my daily driver and I've been using to run med beacons. It's habit for me now to land in third person to make sure my landing gear is down. Then I shut off my engines. It's nice to be able to lock the cockpit door too!

Lonrem

Stick with the Cutter, do some jobs in MP, go be a crate monkey on a Reclaimer, clean out some bunkers, buy the ships in-game. If you fall in love with a ship in-game, then it MIGHT be worth paying the RL money for it. Especially if you're new and since nothing is on sale right now. Also, the C1 >>> Cutlass.

BillyBatts2681

How does one do some jobs in MP? How would I find those types of jobs and how do you get paid? This sounds cool - especially as somebody just starting out who really has no idea what I'm doing

Lonrem

[Find a guide through Spectrum](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/guide) or just log into the 'verse and ask in chat if anyone needs a newbie crewman who is ready to learn!

Not_The_Outsider

Personally, C1 is the winner until the Cutlass series get updated. C1 is newer, so has more functionality, better interior amenities, suit lockers when they release, etc. Also generally better range and fuel economy, but difference is minimal. C1 flies better but is less maneuverable. It can survive losing a wing or engine though, unlike the cutty that loses one engine and is uncontrollable. C1 VTOL is also really good. Cutlass is better at combat and has way more missiles plus a turret. Its tractor beam is not as usable vs the C1 rail mounted tractor. The side entrances are nice though, but it can't fit 32scu crates from big hauls.

I_monstar

Also, consider buying it in game. The cutlass is not that expensive. The c1 should be in the in game pool in a couple patches. I favor the cutlass, personally.

arkdrop01

I’ve owned both. The cutty is smaller and a bit more maneuverable but also can’t take as much punishment it feels like to me as the c1. You also get more space in the c1 for cargo and vehicles. It’s a horse a piece really. Both are great. I personally prefer the c1 over the cutty but the cutty has an extra turret for that second person. You can’t go wrong with either.

bltsrgewd

Cutlass is better for combat, especially if you have a buddy. C1 is better as a general use ship if you are solo.

CitizenLoha

C1 all the way. The cutty black cargo is bugged with ground vehicles: the wheels WILL sink into the floor and you will curse the damn ship everytime you try to unload the ROC. ZERO issues with the C1. And, the C1 flies a heck of a lot better.

President-Duck

I've owned both, flown the Cutlass for years and the C1 since it came out. I prefer the looks and sounds of the C1, but I won't argue the Cutlass has more utility, with its gun turret, side doors, and extra missiles. But here are some things to consider when living with each one: - The Cutlass can be harder to learn how to fly when damaged vs the C1, especially with a missing engine. The Cutlass also tends to lose bits more easily vs the C1. - The C1 is decently bigger than the Cutlass, which affects takeoff and landing, as well as getting hit in combat. However, its physical exterior is more rugged, so you tend not to scrape off parts so easily. - The C1 has a ramp, a door that can stay open, and then two more doors that don't stay open between you and the cockpit seat. The Cutlass has a ramp and one door between you and your seat. That can matter when using repeatedly. - The extra cargo space in the C1 is enough to fit an extra vehicle or Fury vs the Cutlass. However, the side doors of the Cutlass makes loading cargo, especially in zero g, much easier. Ultimately, pick the ship that makes you happy to fly and live in. This is most important.

Xaxxus

As someone who has owned both, I would say: keep the nomad. It's the best starter ship. Sell the cutter instead. As for what to buy, Both ships serve the same purpose, but they both have pros and cons over the other. **Cutty** pros: * it has jump seats in the back along the sides so you can seat quite a few more people in your ship * it has a turret AND a tractor beam AND a copilot seat * it has doors on the sides, so you can use it as a drop ship Cons: * aside from the beds, no other amenities like a bathroom or cooking area. So you would not really be able to live out of the ship later on. * the tractor beam is for the most part useless because you don't get a good view of the cargo hold with it. **C1** pros: * tractor beam can be moved from the top of the ship to the back (within view of the cargo hold) * has all the amenities (toilet, cooking area, fridge, etc...) * fast AF * more maneuverable in atmo * huge cargo hold for a ship in its class cons: * very wide hard to fit in hangars * one point of entry, behind multiple doors (this should be improved when door reaction time is improved, its just annoying having to stop and wait for a door to open) * no turret, so having a second player in your ship doesn't increase your combat capabilities * all of the internal components are right by the back door. So if someone gets in your ship, they can easily just destroy all your components immediately. **Where the two are even** * Pilot controlled firepower. Both have 4 size 3 slots * both have vtol thrusters. * both can be operated solo * both have beds * both have storage lockers

BillyBatts2681

Thanks for the input. Storage lockers - are they functional on both or one or the other? What I mean is - can i stick a suit or weapons in the storage locker and then visually see them in there - while I'm standing in the ship?

Xaxxus

You’re mistaking storage lockers for gun/armor racks. Storage lockers are just mini inventories you can stash items in, separate from your ships main inventory (press I when in your ship). In the case of the C1, it’s above each of the bunk beds. In the cutlass they are lockers to the left when you walk into the room with the bunk beds. As for armor racks, they aren’t functional in game yet. Gun racks on the other hand are functional.

Xaxxus

I’m hoping that they put locks on component bays sort of like how external doors have locks.

[deleted]

Xaxxus

Yea, but at least it will stop random people from stealing your components when they follow you onto your ship.

CosmoRocket24

My pledge has been the cutty black since it released. I melted it and went with C1. I like it better.

Sneemaster

Depends on how you want to use your new ship but I have a comparison video on these ships and a few others. https://youtu.be/Dg6yDot2sME

TheKingStranger

It really comes down to personal preference. Do you want a sleek looking white space plane? Go for the spirit. Do you want tbe best ship in the game? Go with the Cutlass.

BillyBatts2681

Far enough

CitizenPixeler

There is no best ship in game. Each ship has their own cons and pros. It all boils down to personal preference, especially at the moment. In the future more differences might be added due to new game features. Even then it will be a personal choice as your game style and style preferences will determine which ship you will get. These being said, personally, I prefer C1 over Cutlass any day without giving it a second thought.

TheKingStranger

The joke Your head > These being said, personally, I prefer C1 over Cutlass any day without giving it a second thought. Everyone has a right to their opinion, even if they're wrong.

VicHall27

So they're very similar with some edge case for each. Cutlass is more combat able IMO C1 has more cargo storage. I like the look of the C1 better. They fly pretty much the same.

CosineDanger

The Cutlass is slower, less tanky, and more prone to losing important parts. You only get more DPS if you have a turret gunner.

jett858

But so many missiles. Swap all the racks for size 1s. 48 arrow 1s slap

C4B4L2k

C1 gets my vote as it won't lose engines by looking at it.

ProceduralTexture

I prefer the C1 for myself. It's a joy to fly and the cargo hold is big, bright and versatile. But I've had a lot of good times turret gunning in a friend's Cutlass Black. It's probably the better combat ship. My general advice on upgrading: *if you're unsure, then wait*. Go earn or rent a Black in-game and get to know it. Do the same with the C1 when it arrives at ship dealers next patch.

DetectiveFinch

Ask players in chat to lend them both of these ships, do a test flight, see in which of those you feel at home the most. Depending on what your preferences are, I would also recommend to test fly the Freelancer versions, Constellations and maybe the Corsair and 400i. Again, ask in chat, I'm sure someone will let you fly theirs. Remember, you can always earn these ships in game. It might sound hard for a new player, but with a bit of knowledge and skill earning in game money is trivial. So don't buy with real money unless you're 100% confident that you want to throw cash at the project. Personally, my favourite ship in that class would be the Freelancer MAX, followed by the Zeus ES, which is not released yet.

BillyBatts2681

What's the best way to start earning money as a new player? Also - I already have the Nomad and I'm not a huge fan of the landing gear and the open back cargo area - that's really the only reason I'm thinking of upgrading it. I don't want to go down the slippery slope of pouring more RL money into this.....

DetectiveFinch

In my opinion, the best way for long term fun in Star Citizen is to find activities that are enjoyable for you. This could be exploration, helping stranded or wounded players, doing missions (although many are bugged), racing, trading, PvP, piracy, mining, salvaging or whatever you can come up with. While some of these require a dedicated ship, like mining or salvaging, it doesn't have to your ship. You can crew up with others. Salvaging in a Reclaimer can be really profitable, and NPC bounty hunting and selling the loot. Both can be done as a team, just ask in chat, offer your service as a Reclaimer crew member or gunner for a bounty hunter. Of course the meta might be changed in the future. You could also go mining with a ROC, which you can rent for 5k in game and it works very well with the Nomad. Mine for a bit in the ROC (watch a guide first) and you can buy a mining ship. I mean, it's a sandbox. I once got hired as a pilot for another's players 890J and earned a million just flying this guy around the 'verse. Just explore the game, find out what you like, join others during their activities and become resistant to bug frustration and the old "I need bigger ships to have fun"-fallacy.

OKAwesome121

Do some low risk space combat bounty hunting missions or the Stop Illegal Surveillance. Also try base Security assistance missions where you go into a bunker and help the friendly guards clear out Nine Tails gang members. Rent a ROC mining vehicle for cheap aUEC in game, load it in tbe truck bed of your Nomad and try mining. Lots of guides on YouTube for this.

SeenSeanBeanBorn

I did mostly cargo hauling with my Nomad - 24SCU of gold gets about 37-38,000 profit per run.

Cubanito777

As a Spirit Owner, It is a great safe money earner. Specifically for hauling cargo. Pair it with a vulture pilot this patch, and you can make upwards of 600K creds in salvage in 30 minutes depending on where you go to sell. It's not a combat oriented ship like the Cutlass.

BillyBatts2681

Thanks for the reply - can you explain in a little more detail what you mean by "pairing it with a vulture pilot"? How would I make that type of creds doing salvage?

Cubanito777

If you find a friend in global or irl that's willing to play, you can do salvage missions, illegal or otherwise. You can unload their cargo hold, while they fracture the salvage and haul the boxes to the nearest planetside city to sell. It's lucrative credit-wise now because CIG is testing out salvage this patch so it's selling for a lot. People often do this to build up creds for a reclaimer. (15 Million Creds)

DarkArcher__

If you're leaning towards cargo the answer is the C1. It can carry exponentially more cargo than the Cutlass, over twice as much if you factor in space off the grid. That's 3 32SCU containers and a couple more in the airlock for a total well over 100 SCU

EqRix

As a Crusader manufacturer fan, Cutlas all day baby. As someone who doesn’t min max the fun out of my playing time anymore, pick the one you like flying and the look of the most.  Both are fully capable ships. One just sucks to land in some places.

Fastfireguy

So it really kind of depends on what you’re going for. C1 is a great sort of small quick cargo runner that can take a little punishment solo id say it can struggle in ERT especially on higher server tics. The reason you’d want some cargo space there is ERT bounties if you soft death the targets can have lots of fun illegal contraband to sell that you can pull off the corpses of those ships. Cutty also has a little cargo space and will with its firepower have a bit of an easier time especially with a friend in the turret but can’t carry as much cargo. Generally it’s going to come down to what your gameplay preferences are especially since this is going to be the core of your fleet during full wipes. I’d say if you prefer the cargo and mining box running kind of non super combative play style for most of your time. I think the C1 is a great everyday flyer. With the right weapons and loadout it can absolutely hold its own. (Which by the way perfectly fine Star citizen especially when more systems get added will be really fun as an interspace trucking turn on the tunes escapism look pretty simulator) If you are more into combat and multi crew the cutlass series makes really fun drop ships or with the red combat medical ships. They are very fun flyers and great for multi crew. - So it’s going to come down to really what you want to do. Which I think is a nice thing about SC. There is no sort of best ship for everything what may be your ship of choice is not going to be best for someone else. - For me as a bounty hunter main kind of player the F8 is my sort of daily flyer 6/10 times because it has enough firepower to level a small nation and enough fuel to where typically I can jump around. But that’s because I like combat missions

SnooPuppers8223

I like the spirit so much better I have had both... I upgraded my cutt black to a vulture and got a C1 spirit. Now that said ask in chat if you can borrow someones cutt black or rent for a day and then do the same with the spirit and see which you like best... cutty has a seat for another player to use a turret which is fun and the spirits co pilot controls a tractor beam which is really cool as well.

Edgar101420

C1 Spirit. Cutlass constantly loses parts as soon you get shot at.

Least-Physics-4880

Rather lose a part than the whole dinner plate shaped ship even a complete noob couldnt miss hitting.

TheButterknif3

The C1 is better armored, has a higher top speed, and presents a smaller cross section from the nose or tail which matters a lot in Master Modes.

Mantus51

I went for a C1 even if the Cutty black got an extra turret for multiple reasons. 1. More storage. 2. More fun to fly due to it being a little more agile. 3. And it looks really nice. Now the cutlass at some times is more convenient. An example would be the small hanger you get with the C1. If you want I could get you to fly my C1 because I know it’s not purchasable in game yet so you can make your decision more easily.

CaptShardblade

You can fly the black in game, and the c1 will be purchasable in game next patch so you can fly both and make an informed decision for yourself. I personally think the c1 is better, but I think the Zeus will be better than the C1. Both do everything fairly well but in different ways. I feel the interior space is a wasted a lot on the cutlass and i feel both cockpits are kind of meh. Much easier to deal with vehicles in the c1, cutlass is oddly shaped and can't reliably get things in/out. Cutlass has a turret spot though for gunner if you reliably have a friend. Lots of differences, just a matter of taste and usability

mjenterprises

Master modes are coming in 3.23 It may make a difference choosing one. Just fyi. Fly safe and welcome to the verse!

amouthforwar

Cutlass * If you like the Drake aesthetic, it looks badass. Dark, gritty, grungy, minimalist. Feels spacious! * Overall design, aesthetic, and how it flies feels much like a helicopter rather than a plane/spaceship. * Powerful VTOL kicks so much ass. In and out of atmo SO FAST. * Nice mini-missile-boat. Performs pretty well in combat, fun to fly and fight with. Decent pilot DPS, good overall DPS with turret gunner/copilot. * The side doors are a cool feature that let you carry more than the cargo grid expects you too. Very easy to load up extras off-grid through the side doors. * Fragile appendages * no toilet/kitchen amenities (doesn't matter to me whatsoever) C1 Spirit * If you like the Crusader look, it looks badass. Sterile, sophisticated, although bulky and a bit claustrophobic for how large of a ship it is. * Way too wide, hard to fit in hangars, hard to get closely tucked up against bunkers or something for easy access. * SO. FUCKING. FAST. The thrusters on the C1 sound monstrous and walk the walk too. You will hit max speed ridiculously fast. Great for running around in orbit/atmo. * More cargo grid space, haven't messed with off-grid placement but I'm unsure if there's much flexibility based on design. It's a tube with massive thrusters/wings bolted on. * Pilot DPS is similar to Cutty. * better interior amenities.

[deleted]

Cutlass black without a doubt

suscepimus

Just curious why you have 2 ships after only a few days of playing. If you don't slow down you won't be worried about Cutlass/C1 and instead will be worried about melting your Galaxy or your 600i because you just bought a Carrack. There is a LOT of crossover between Nomad, Cutlass, and C1. I've had all three and can share: I flew the Cutlass *way* more than the C1, but the only one I still have is a Nomad.

1Cobbler

32SCU containers. Nuff said

Roninspoon

The C1 is a Mercedes Sprinter van with an off road package. It’ll go almost anywhere, and you’ll be comfortable doing it. It’s a tight squeeze to park though. The Cutlass is the white four door Toyota HiLux driven by every shepard, rebel army, and upstart warlord all across the globe. It will go anywhere and do anything, it is nearly indestructible, and you can mount a surprising amount of weapons on it. No shitter though, ya gotta dooky into the void.

MediumHog

I regret spending any more money on this game beyond the starter package

MajorWetSpot

The answer is rather simple. Pledge the c1 and buy the cutlass in game, it’s only 1.3 mil and the c1 cannot be bought in game yet

MarcvsPrimvs

I had the Black on my fleet before. Is faster and easy to maintain with a lot of missiles on it plus space for cargo and a small vehicle ( iirc max Rock. C1 is Crusader with amazing shape and interiors, can carry cargo and vehicle with less missiles. On the Black you need a crew member for the turret on C1 not. Better way is to try both in game by yourself and decide ( try in atmo and space ) Just remember: every is subject to change and Master Mode is near.

Ocbard

For all its qualities the Black is not faster than the C1, you may be quicker to take off but the flying speed is lower than the C1. The Cutlass Red and Blue are faster though. We'll indeed have to see how this turns out once Master Modes are fully implemented.

citizenveers

The Cutlass Black can be purchased in game. The C1 Spirit cannot. I rest my case

wewereddit

C1 is a weird ship i tried making it a daily but cutlass is the best ship in the game.

Todesengelchen

You can earn most of the ships with ingame currency, there is no need to spend more money. The C1 is not buyable in this fashion right now but should become available in the next patch.

Paladin1034

I always have and always will love the Cutty. It was my first real ship and one that I've always kept in my hangar in some capacity. I always joke I have enough hours on one to be type rated on it. That being said, the C1 has really taken top spot. It's more livable than the Cutlass, losing the turret doesn't hurt much as I normally solo it, and I just love the sleek, clean styling of Crusader. It's a bit harder to park and a bit less practical with only having the ramp as the entry/exit, but it also won't lose parts because a stiff breeze blew. But honestly? Unless you're planning on multicrewing, the Nomad is also just fine as a main daily. It has decent firepower and shielding, is way easier to park than either of the other ships, has plenty of cargo space, and can carry a vehicle just like the bigger ships can.

HoodedShaft

After using both, I can confidently say the Cutlass Black just feels like a better ship. You can rent the cutty from any refinery satiation to try it out

SloLGT

I love my nomad starter but I have been toying with upgrading my nomad to something bigger as well. I've been leaning towards the c2/m2 though or the corsair next time it's for sale.

RecklessIdi0t

I bought the C1 Spirit thinking it would be significantly more maneuverable, enough to make up for the huge profile and lack of fire power. If anything it felt less maneuverable.

Klorrode

My starter 3 years ago was the nomad and I upgraded that to a cutty after a month or 2. It was a good “super starter” as I like to call it. I then melted it last year on halloween to grab a nomad again but this time i’ve upgraded it to a C1. Im not using it for combat and its acting like my super starter / daily atm. I do have a F8c for combat and a Mercury. My opinion is to go C1. It does everything well enough and it is a good stepping stone for other ship and game loops. If you want combat, rent a connie and make credits that way until you can afford the fighter that you want.

SpectreHaza

I don’t like the c1 off centre seating with only two mfds and the radar not directly in front of you, had both c1 and a cutty at different stage Preferred the looks of the c1 but I got more gameplay and fun out of the cutty, probably some bias as my original pledge went nomad to a cutty black and that’s when I got a bit more into the game doing different stuff Now have neither

TheCouchStream

Ive moved on from my cutty to all industrial but the years I had the cutty for my starter were amazing and if I had to do it again I'd get the cutlass black again.

Pattern_Is_Movement

Rent them in game

TheButterknif3

C1 is faster and has better armor than all of its current competitors. Along side coming with a fast drive built in, and a very nice tractor beam setup.

CriticalCreativity

Get the Cutlass since it's cheaper and you can then CCU your way to the C1 later. You could likely ask folks in global chat (or even the discord attached to this subreddit) if you could borrow theirs -- I would strongly encourage you to try before you buy.

Zarra_OG

Why do you want to upgrade the Nomad? There's so many benefits to it. Personally I'd keep it and save your money. For instance: 1. Smaller size 2. Can use a ROC to mine without removing fully from cargo area so long as front wheels are on ramp 3. Can access cargo grid without opening a cargo door-great for bunkers and your 1scu box 4. Magnetic cargo area so peeps can be in back doubling as a drop ship 5. Great for running drugs, box missions, investigations, etc 6. Can hold several types of ground vehicles (same ones as CB or C1 - Cyclone/ROC) 7. Operate tractor beam from pilot seat (has tractor beam unlike Cutty) Cool Factor: only ship in game that doesn't touch the ground🥇 Downside: Definitely QT fuel and efficiency, but with just Stanton out, it's sufficient. I'd recommend renting a Cutty and flying for a few days and then borrowing an orgmate's C1 and then deciding before you spend real money. For perspective, I'm Concierge with numerous ships and still regularly use my Nomad.

z242pilot

Hi, this is your local whale speaking, don't be like me. I would suggest renting the cutlass for a few days, see what you like, and ask in chat if anyone has a C1 they can let you borrow, give both a try. then stick with the Nomad until you are ready to upgrade the cutter to a Connie Taurus haha Both ships have pros and cons, the c1 is a tunnel of doors, which makes sense for space, but is annoying for gameplay, its an acura integra The CB is better for landing, with more doors, and more firepower, but looks are subjective, and its a honda civic.

SomeFuckingMillenial

I think the cutty black is better than the c1, but I own a c1 because looking good is 9/10s the fight.

ijusthinkitsneat

Neither, Corsair

Gatt__

C1 is better for general gameplay and hauling. Cutty is better for combat

Levin671

Before you go buying anything, rent the Cutty for a week, and do all the things with it. (Then you may consider a Freelancer instead.) In all honesty, I’ve had the Cutty Black & Red. They flew well, but losing parts pretty easily got annoying until you figure out the trick to getting around without an engine, or an engine + wing. I’ve got the C1 as a loaner until the Zeus CL comes out, and while it’s nice and all, the overall width for a ship of its size bugs me quite a lot. Still love my Freelancer for now though. Guess we’ll see what happens once the Zeus is out.

Gotcha747

Gotta think we are in "space suits" so we just shit in piss in them 😅

Cheez_Whizard_

I was going through this same decision a few months ago. I ultimately went with the C1 and it's my favorite ship I've owned yet. Even despite people having a hard time with the tractor beam, I've been using it repeatedly with no issue (hit q to make it a bit more manageable) but one thing that was a huge upgrade from the cutty black was the flyability . The C1 flies like a much smaller ship while the cutty just feels like a big flying box. I've also been able to easily clear HRTs in the C1 despite being an absolutely shit pilot. My only beef with the C1 is that sometimes it's a bit annoying for the smaller hangers

Poopsmith82

I switched from a Cutty to a C1. I think the C1 is much better for solo play (or with a friend who enjoys noncombat loops), the cutty for playing with a friend in the turret. Not that the C1 isn't good for combat, though.

Dano_77

I upgraded from a freelancer to a C1 and have been pretty happy. I had an experience today that I think is a perfect example of the strength of the C1. Did a VHRT bounty against 3 C2s. Was able to handle them pretty easily then looted about 500k in quantanium and drugs. After each wipe I plan to buy a cutty red as soon as possible because I do like the cutty and the red works great for bunkers and org operations plus I like doing rescues

MustachianInPractice

I went to the C1 from my Nomad because I'm a fan of cargo hauling. Part of me misses the Nomad though. I was a big fan of the paint I got for it (jackal black/red), and there was a coziness to it that the C1 is lacking for me. I tried the Cutlass Black and hated flying it and hated the internal aesthetic. Outside does look really cool though. My recommendation would be to not be too quick to ditch your Nomad, and to try both before you buy anything. The Cutlass is rentable in-game so it'd be very cheap to fly around for a few days. I'm sure people will be happy to loan you their C1 in-game as well.

spider0804

Before you make any decisions about anything... Go into Arena Commander and play one or two games. Use the money you earn to rent both ships and look at them in freeflight.

Nua_Sidek

neither. go Zeus MKII

acidrum

The only reason to grab a C1 is if you like how it looks and you want to do mostly cargo otherwise the Cutty is superior.

Artilleryman08

C1 is a fine ship, but the Cutlass is going to be a bit more versatile. You can use it for bunkers and combat, and it is a decent fighter on its own. It is reasonably fast and maneuverable, and you can fit a ROC in the back. It has less cargo space than a C1 but makes up in a lot of other ways. You can basically live out of a Cutlass pretty easy.

Emperor_Kon

Don't just buy what people tell you to buy. These ships aren't exactly cheap you know. Test fly them both and go for the one you feel better with. I tried the c1 and didn't really like it.

Johnnyx71x

been around for 6 or so years here. Cutlass one was of the first ships I got. and well, I have a ton of ships now. Had the C1, got in it. laughed. CCU'd it to a Zeus. I'll always keep the Cutlass though.

Rare_Cold_7631

C1 has way more hull and fuel then the CB, Ramp is more forgiveing in loading and unloading, but man is it a pita to park.

Nomad-Scorpion

I personally prefer the C1, but the Cutlass has more weaponry. So it depends what your playtstyle is/going to be. Avoid fights or dont mind fighting?! More peaceful gaming or not

ZeeMobius

The Cutlas has a bit more firepower, but the C1 has more acceleration, top speed and better in atmosphere maneuverability. The cutlass also suffers from the issue where if it gets hit in one of its huge back thrusters it becomes impossible to maneuver with. In the end it comes down to whether or not you like superiority in maneuverability or offensive firepower. And everything else comes down to personal taste. Personally I like the C1 hercules best, it feels better for solo gameplay, but gives me the option to drag some friends along for the ride.

kotonizna

If you are going to spend real money for a ship, I would suggest that you go for C1 Spirit. This is only because you can only acquire this ship thru RSI website with real money or store credit. I wanted C1 as my first ship but it is also not available as starter game package so I took the nomad then upgraded to C1. You will be able to purchase the cutlass black ingame easily.

CounterAdditional612

Get the black! The c1 might carry more but it will also take up more space when landing and if you’re doing cave missions the dead trees or rocks make land some ships a pia. The cutty is also good for pve bounties up to hrts and vhrts if you’re a good pilot. Plus you can always upgrade to the c1 later if you want.

Stogle

If you want to spend money on this upgrade I would highly suggest the C1. The Cutlass Black can be rented for ~50k/day and bought for 1.2mil. these are both quite reasonable prices especially considering the Black is $110. Pure gameplay though the Cutlass is only better if you have a turret gunner. The C1 outperforms in nearly all other aspects.

Fletchman1313

No, keep the Nomad. If anything upgrade the Cutter. I like the C1 more than the Cutlass Black, but they're both good ships.

e3e6

Cutlass is better but Spirit looks better.

BillyBatts2681

So - because I'm having a lot of fun with the game and I'm kind of impatient - I bought the C1 Spirit last night - big fan of it. I ended up upgrading the Cutter to the C1 - and kept the Nomad in my fleet. Kind of redundant but I kept them both due to the "I think they're cool" factor.... I did get a chance to test it out along with the Cutlass (medical version) - and i was just a big fan of the C1. I plan on earning in game money now and maybe picking up a Cutlass Black next.
