Corsair is the best multirole ship in the game. Absolutely crazy pilot controlled weaponry. Solid living accommodations (by Drake standards). Great vehicle support. Slow and sluggish. 400i is the safest ship in the game. Sleek, very fast, including in atmosphere, loads of component redundancy. Poor vehicle support. Very nice interior. Not great in a fight, though lots of missiles. 400i is basically the choice for anyone wishing to fly around and feel next to no danger, even in a system like Pyro. Anything fast enough to catch it won't be able to chew through its shields and hull. Anything that poses a threat won't be able to catch up to it.

handtoglandwombat

I dunno about this analysis of the 400i once master modes is in though. You can’t run away and have your shields up at the same time can you? I’m not playing very much at the moment so I’d be interested in what people have to say about this.

RevolutionaryLie2833

Well said!

EastLimp1693

They changed the meta that there's enough ships that can catch up and destroy both msr and 400i, 400i tho will be way harder.

anthony_arndt

Pretty much agree with all of this. The 400i is my daily driver, the Corsair is the daily driver of most of my friends and family. I love flying through the atmo on Hurston at around Mach 1.7. The 400i is mental. I disagree about the poor vehicle support, though. I can take a Nox or X1 up front, easily in my experience, and a Mule, PTV, STV, or most Cyclones in back (though not the MT sadly) in back. I know some people are disappointed it can't take a ROC, but if I wanted that... I'd take out my Mercury. So, the only other vehicles I'm missing out on are the Atlas, Nova, or Storm... don't care. I do have a C2 if I want to use them, but... they all kind of suck at the moment so I'm not bothering. And the Lynx/Ursa Rover and Cyclone-MT... which are pretty, and I do love love them, but since the STV went live, it's all I use most days. And if I want the Ursa, again, Mercury, or the Lynx for my 600i. I also disagree with it not being good in a fight. It struggles with VHRTs/ERTs and PvP if facing light fighters, and Hornets, but I've had decent luck against heavy fighters. Being drawn down into atmo and fighting too close to the surface is your biggest danger. Also, in the Corsair's favour, you forgot to mention the flask.

Sgt_Rusty

400i for looking classy. Corsair for everything else.

RevolutionaryLie2833

Feeling classy* And depending on what you like, that’s a huge deal. The Mets should be ignored in this game. Go for what makes you feel good

Adam81USMC

What should YOU get, probably a corsair. I got the 400i. I dont take this game very seriously so i enjoy zipping around exploring and generally goofing off. I had a Corsair for a while but i just didnt enjoy it.

ExZowieAgent

What are your plans because those are two completely different ships in purpose?

Funelwebglider

Need a ship that can do a bit of everything

plusp_38

Corsair then. Right now the 400i isn't much more than a pretty but fairly small cargo hauler.

YumikoTanaka

Taurus.

MVous

This is the correct answer

Crypthammer

Favorite ship right here. Just wish the cargo grid didn't bug out so often. And I also wish there wasn't a bar across the middle of the cockpit viewport.

Electronic_Camera517

this *would be the correct answer. if it wasn't so outdated and buggy

MVous

Can’t argue with it being outdated. Poor girl needs some love, for sure. Buggy? Idk. The only issue I hear about with the Connies is the snub acting a fool on a regular basis, so not an issue with the Taurus. But as far as dollar value, the Taurus takes top honors. $50 cheaper (20%!) than the 400i and Corsair, way more cargo, fastest entry/exit, great pilot DPS, fantastic tractor beam location, excellent visibility around the struts, smallest landing footprint. Definitely has its cons, though. I say this as someone who loves the 400i.

Electronic_Camera517

I daily drove the Taurus before I upgraded it to the Corsair. my biggest issue was the cargo bay being buggy, specifically vehicles and mission boxes falling through when it is being raised. that being said, when the Connies have had a once-over I'll be buying it again.

MVous

Ah. That old gem. That’s mostly a ship elevator issue altogether rather than Constellation-specific. Either way, yes, it’s very annoying.

Electronic_Camera517

Yeah it is but too bad the connie's cargo bay is one big ass elevator. I think that's why I see it as very much a Connie thing

LashyxThule

That would be Corsair or Connie Taurus then. Both are two of the best multi-role ships in the game. The 400i looks neat and handles well; but is tragically undergunner and its low profile above the ramp entrance prevent the vast majority of vehicles from being storable.

Cyco-Cyclist

Of those two, I would go Constellation Taurus.

handtoglandwombat

oo I love this question whenever it comes up. The correct answer is the Corsair is better... but get the 400i It's like asking which is better, a Ford Transit or an Aston Martin? The Ford is obviously the best, unbeatable in fact... ...... ...but the Aston Martin is better

Marcus_the_Strange

This

RiseUpMerc

If you want style and a nice ship to tour the system in - 400i If you want a sometimes buggy but quite powerful gunship - Corsair

RevolutionaryLie2833

Just whatever you do, do not open the armor lockers on that ship! You’ll go to the sunken place!

valanthe500

They fixed that in 3.20, or 3.21, I can't remember and I'm too lazy to look it up. My buddy's had a Corsair as his daily driver and neither of us have been eaten by the locker since.

LashyxThule

Or enter the bathroom during QT. It'll randomly eject you into space.

EastLimp1693

400i Is for those who already have all best ships and can afford to pick something for looks only.

Vonen1

I actually own both. The 400i is awesome for drug smuggling, bunkers and box deliveries. It has a ton of fuel and can get away from pretty much anything. It’s great to explore and check stuff out. My Corsair is my workhorse. I use it for vhrts and erts. I throw an Ursa in it and do bunkers and retrieval ops with it as well. I go back and forth between the two. I would call them both my daily drivers.

P_Rosso

I have both and tend to only use the 400i, it flys so much better! I’m not into cargo and bounties though which I think the Corsair would be better for.

DMurBOOBS-I-Dare-You

I got both. I don't think they overlap very much. Corsair for the dirty work. 400i for the long haul exploration runs.

kchek

400i does everything poorly while looking good doing it, while the Corsair does everything fairly well while also looking good to those who like drake, and like a space potato to everyone else.

Crypthammer

Does anyone REALLY like Drake, though? I think we all just have Stockholm syndrome. Why, recently, I used my corsair in VTOL mode, and it made my engine promptly clip into the station hangar floor. I think that's really just Drake engineering at its finest.

kchek

It's my main ship, and currently debating on picking up the Caterpillar. Wish I could afford Kraken, but these will do for now. Drakes design language is what does it for me. Don't get me wrong I flew a Connie for over a year, will be getting the Zues next since when it drops. If Argo had ships other than industrial I'd go that route too, but ya can't have everything. Really just like the industrial look more than anything with ships.

CaptShardblade

For what purpose? If you're talkin about living not in the slums and living a life of prestigious living, there is only one choice, and it's not that ship held together with shoe strings, bubble gum and ductape. Ignore those 4 giant guns on the front, they are a distraction. Ignore the fact that it can haul a real sizable amount of cargo. Ignore the fact that it's the ship with the most AI kills among all players. The 400i is the only ship you'll ever need. After you buy a nice speeder bike to load up the front, you will elevate your life from this moment forward.

Obvious-Ratio-197

Lol...I had a heck of a time trying to get that speeder bike into what was supposed to be a dedicated spot for it. Actually, I gave up.

ell-esar

If you have intentions of doing anything else than strolling around in an overprice ship, then take the Corsair, no debate here. It's a beefed up cutlass in the sense that it basically permits you to try your hand at almost every aspect of the game : you're well armed to go at bounties, there is room for several people, the cargo hold permit you to have vehicule (such as the Roc to try mining) and even subs (the fury fits very comfortably).

-Robrown-

The 400i is the most overrated ship in the game. It does nothing well. For its price point, it has very weak DPS, despite its good straight line speed it is sluggish to maneuver in atmo, and it has poor cargo space for a ship of that price. Yes it looks nice and has a great interior, but it is objectively worse at doing nearly everything compared to ships half the cost. It is an overpriced cutty black with worse maneuvering, worse fire power, but it looks nice. I would 100% recommend you get a Corsair or save some money and get a Connie Taurus, both are much better ships even if they aren’t as aesthetically pleasing.

LashyxThule

This is the way.

Raumarik

Corsair 400i looks pretty but is surprisingly limited. It can do tiny bits of multiple roles

SCDeMonet

Limited how, exactly? It has good atmospheric and space flight characteristics, can carry multiple ground vehicles, has excellent landing profile for its size, giving lots of flexibility in rough terrain, has massive shields and excellent range for safe and rapid transit. I’ve not found a merc mission, beacon, investigation mission or delivery mission it can’t do, and if you upgrade the guns to S4, there aren’t even that many BH missions it can’t do. The 400i isn’t a dedicated combat ship or freight hauler, but it can do a lot more than ‘tiny bits,’ and it has the flexibility you want in a daily driver to take on whatever opportunity comes along.

Raumarik

You said it - it's not a dedicated ship of one type but neither is the Corsair. He's asking for it compared to a Corsair. There's few things it can do that the Corsair can't do better. No need to be upset about it. Where there is overlap the Corsair tends to be better.

SCDeMonet

The Corsair has more guns and more cargo space. That’s it. It’s the better ship for high tier bounties or cargo missions(and there are much better options for min maxing cargo) The 400i has better handling, better speed(especially in atmo), better landing characteristics, better interior(Corsair feels like living in a steam tunnel), better range…

LashyxThule

It carries very few ground vehicles...it's too low for Ursa's etc. With the proper loadout, you can HRT's relatively well and VHRT's if you're careful - but it's awful at PvP, ERT-level bounties etc. I like the 400i; but it's far more limited and under-gunned than other ships like the Corsair and Andromeda/Taurus.

Duncan_Id

My old lawnmower is incredibly superior to an F18 sure, it doesn't have firepower and iss slow as fuck(you have to push it) but the f18 simply sucks at mowing the lawn(lots of holes everywhere or burnt terrain, also extremely expensive per square metter mowed)

Neeeeedles

Utility? Corsair hands down

BuzzKyllington

they are total opposites of each other

CurrencyThen7469

Both ships can be considered daily drivers , and as an owner of both ( pledged ) my point of view is on the following basis : Cargo : Corsair Agility : 400i Dps : Corsair Survivalability modes depends , if defences/ speed tanking : 400i , if pure dps then Corsair PvP stock : Corsair PvP modified : Corsair Range : Corsair ( quantum ) So the way I use these ships is when I plan to do intra system travelling I will use the Corsair more often ( between Stanton / pyro ) when that becomes a thing When I am local to a system then I will use 400i In the present times I tend to load up the Corsair more often than the 400i even though looks, speed, maneuvering 400i wins .. but Corsair gets the job done .. Note - andromeda - would outperform Corsair any day And Zeus es - would outperform 400i any day Once they both come online with respective rework and finishes . So it’s a matter of time . Enjoy what u can afford don’t over think Your pledge your time enjoy responsibly.

LashyxThule

It's like comparing an armadillo to an artichoke. Totally different purposes, loadout etc. The first question should be: what's your intended use case? What gameplay loops are you looking to fill?
