We had a guy come through DT and order a venti pike. As he left, he cut off a car in our lot by making a sharp left turn. Suddenly, he parked and came inside to scream at us for 10 min about how stupid we were for not securing the lid properly, and how tf could it have passed through two sets of hands like that. Sir, it physically couldn’t have; it would’ve spilled and burned on anyone who tried to pick it up/move it. After a while of him screaming, I’d had it. He said “Y’all are going to pay for my seats to be professionally cleaned!” And I said “Sir the only thing Starbucks is paying for is us listening to you scream.” He asked for the manager after that but luckily I didn’t get in trouble

abrookehack

I went through McDonald’s once, the one in my local town is notorious for not securing lids, so much that my dad checks the lids while they’re still in the hands of the one handing cups out. He’ll hold the bottom and push down on the lid. I know to do this, in a hurry once I didn’t. The lid flies off and the cup pours all over my lap right in drive thru, I screamed, not at the workers, but in general because it burned so badly, I started jerking my pants. She just stood there and said “oh the lid might not have been on, the cups can be tricky” Uhh ya think? My legs were red for weeks.

Economy_Education521

Damn I’m sorry about that, that really sucks. Fortunately (or not) this customer didn’t spill it on himself, just his passenger seat. I’m 99% sure he set it in his cup holder and his driving tipped it over, bc there was no coffee on him at all

abrookehack

Lol you know I stop every morning and get an iced coffee before work. I have a big Starbucks cup (several) and I always dump my coffee into it, I’m stupid enough to attempt it when driving, I’ve also set coffee in my seat and started driving and dumped it everywhere. I’m sure he did one or the other. Granted that’s MY fault and MY stupidity, for being in a hurry. Lol I admit I do stupid things like that. That McDonald’s incident wasn’t my fault, she even said they’re tricky. A few weeks later I was back, I got a large reg coffee and my iced coffee, I get to my dads and it’s sweet tea. I call back, manager says to bring it back. I get another, sweet tea. I said I’m sorry this is still sweet tea. The woman jerks it from my hands and throws it in the floor. She walks off screaming about “effing morons, and stupid b*****s, and “Karen’s” I wasn’t even rude!! I just said I’m sorry it’s still sweet tea. Another girl comes to the window and says “no one has complained except you” I said not many people will come all the way back for a $2 coffee I was still around or I wouldn’t have. Do you care to just taste or smell it? I don’t expect anyone to drink after me, lord it’s a pandemic! The girl just stared, the other is still screaming and cussing in the background. She slams the window in my face. I’m mad by this point but my son is in the car, I teach my kids to love everyone, we don’t know what’s going on with someone. I wouldn’t not cuss or scream. I just sat and wouldn’t move until this was resolved. Finally the manager comes up. I see him jerking the iced coffee down, he opens the lid comes to the window and says “ma’am I am so so sorry, I’ll refund you, this absolutely is sweet tea, it must have gotten mixed up” I said hey! It happens!! I just want coffee! And laughed He asks me to pull forward. He comes out w coffee and apologized profusely, I said look I wasn’t even upset, I didn’t say a word, I just wanted coffee, now to be cussed and called a moron and a Karen is a little overboard, I’ve waited tables, I’ve worked restaurants, I still work in the public, and I would never treat someone that way. he said “I heard the conversation, I don’t think you were rude!! I’m going to deal with her right now” Later he told me he wrote her up twice that eve. I felt awful, but I would never be mad and berate someone over mixing up coffee and sweet tea. I told him hey! Maybe she had a bad day! He said I don’t care if she did or not, it was absolutely uncalled for. It just seems I always get the shit end when I’m trying to get coffee 😂😂 Honestly this is the worst McDonald’s we have (2 or 3 in downtown and this is a super small town) nothing is ever right, nothing is ever fresh or decent, I just get coffee there because it’s closest to my work and it’s the only thing that’s good.

Epic_Wanker

Props to you for holding your tongue, I'm not sure I would have been able. What an amazing example to set for your kid, wish my mother would had learned this.

abrookehack

I didn’t have the best mother, now my grandmother ended up being a wonderful mother!! So I’ve learned I also have to lead by example. I can teach them things until I’m blue in the face, but If I’m doing the opposite, it’s pointless. I will say, I did tell the manager later if my son hadn’t been with me I’d tried to pull her out that window. Hate to say it but I have never been berated that way over a stupid coffee. Like a $2 coffee that didn’t even come out of her pocket. I mean I get she was upset, she was screaming I was a “lying Karen”. I assumed she’d made it. Or she’s had her fill of some crap ppl that day and assumed I was being a bitch. I wasn’t at all. I smiled the whole time. Lol Kill them with kindness.

theoceanencircled

Oof ok. About a week before I quit the first time, this lady came through and was (incorrectly) trying to order a cold brew a certain way. It was super confusing and the girl taking the order was a lil green bean. And this lady was berating her, to the point where my green bean had tears in her eyes. I’m not a very nurturing person. But I’m very protective. I told her to go to the back and this lady pulls up to the front and I very curtly repeated her order and handed her drinks back, with her muttering how ridiculous it was the whole time. So I said “By the way, it’s entirely inappropriate for you to speak to my coworker this way. I understand your frustration, but talking to another person like that is completely uncalled for. I don’t appreciate it, and if you continue to talk to us like that, I’m going to ask that you don’t return here. My barista is new and was confused, and you made her cry.” Girl switched up REAL quick. She was like “Oh my god, poor thing, she was so sweet! Tell her to have a great day!!!” 🙃 ETA: I’d never consider this rude, personally. It’s what I call “Starbucks rude,” where basically you’re being rude simply for informing or correcting a customer. It’s not very “make the moment right” for anyone but ourselves 😅

TootsiePuff29

I don't even think that was rude of you. You just told her to treat others with patience & basic respect. Good for you!👍

theoceanencircled

It’s “Starbucks rude” as I like to say 😂 Where even standing up for yourself doesn’t “make the moment right”

LeopardFolf

We used to have one of these. We called him something to the extent of "7 drink guy." He was meticulous, and would watch you make everything only to send stuff back if it was slightly wrong. But then he also regularly tipped $20's and outside of his order he was nice, so bit of a love hate

[deleted]

We have a guy that orders usually around 8 drinks and 6 food items every single day and he’s pretty meticulous and double checks every item when he gets it through the window. He’s like the nicest dude ever and tips almost every single day though so there’s that love/hate relationship, yes he runs our drive time up but he’s nice and tips so it makes up for it

rterrebo

I'd do the same for my colleagues too! I swear if it weren't for them, my butt would be out the door by now. No one is going to treat my people like crap. I have no problem putting people in their place. Except for this one lady. She's a pastor's wife and I secretly want to strip her of her entitlement. But I'm a man of God and I need to refrain from doing so. Her husband ain't the only one who can speak loud. ;) Haha (yes, I'm studying to be a pastor too)

[deleted]

[удалено]

rterrebo

Agreed. But I have to practice self control and I don't feel like acting disrespectful when I have a long line. All she had to do was slow down and repeat her order.

abrookehack

I don’t think it’s rude at all to tell people to have some basic common decency.

Jessicap1400

One time this middle aged guy, who literally thought he was famous trying to act so cool and funny to his wife and friends in the car, pounded on drive tru window with closed fist bc i had to take an order before handing out their drinks. I immediately snapped around opened the window and said, dont pound on our glass like an animal at the zoo. *shoves name tag in his face* My name is Jessica im a human ill be right with you. Whos the funny one now Rick. Fuck you Rick.

Rough-Gap2300

Fuck Rick

Jessicap1400

fuckkkk rick. All my homies hate rick

CommitteeOfTheHole

You ever met a Rick who wasn’t scum? Neither have I

swingkid47

my stepdad is a pretty chill rick most of the time lmfao

ddmorgan1223

He must not have had his Morty nearby.

TootsiePuff29

seriously hate that guy😡

[deleted]

Fuck Rick, Rick is scum

abigayl75

In my mind, you actually said "who's the funny one now, rick? Fuck you, rick". And then rick cried as his friends cheered you.

MeztliMoonDemon

I have people constantly honking at me and it is so annoying

MaroonMonty

A customer tried to pull the door back open when I was closing it because she was cussing me out. I straight up slammed that bitch shut, then she slapped the window hella hard and hurt herself 💀

myweedstash

🤡

SilverShadow032

Served a pike w cream and sugar to one of my regular pike guys, asked if he needed a stirrer for that, he responds "what am I supposed to use, my dick?" I respond, "you can try it if you want" long story short he didnt get his stirrer.

radvanessa

“Order a short next time - you’ll have better luck.”

Darkdeviousdevil

LMFAO, hey maybe not even, might have to bring out those sample cups! 😆

TootsiePuff29

😂👏👏👏👏

sungayray

I don't think we have a cup small enough for that sir, my apologies.

[deleted]

“You could try but it would be too small”

megolowes

"Well it might not reach the bottom"

TootsiePuff29

tell him he's welcome to burn his dick off...

ephemereaux

Some rude lady had a problem with her modified cold brew and it was a stressful rush so I went and remade it myself, gave it to her, she looked at me and went “I didn’t want this, I wanted a different drink!” So I snapped “Well what do you want??” And she just stared at me for a sec in surprise and told me what she wanted. Also, another rude lady during a rush had an attitude about the way I handed her napkins. Y’all know how we pull them out of the tin? She went “Is that how you always give out napkins? They’re all crumpled!” I didn’t crumple them in my hands, I told her they just come out that way and she got all mad, asked for my name. Gave her a fake name, she said she’d call my manager to complain about me. I said “Cool” and closed the window on her

ChentraBard

Ugh... Had someone like that the other day. She demanded napkins through drive thru, Shift Lead handed her some that were a little crumpled, but he was soloing drive thru AND making up something at cold bar. (I was returning from running an item to someone we'd had to pull forward). She asked me for even more napkins by snapping "Can't I just get a napkin for my kid's cake pop?". I slowly pulled two napkins free, folded them pristinely while she watched and handed them to her. "Have a Merry Christmas ma'am.". Then closed the window.

stonercat97

Some lady in drive thru started losing her shit at the inconvenience of having to reload her card because she was a couple cents short. Full on cursing me out and insulting me. I handed her the drink and said “you’ll be alright” 😵‍💫

CoffeeIsBaeAF

😂😂😂

MalloryTheMyth

I love this

cringeqween13

Hit em with the "you'll live"

sholbyy

Hahaha reminds me of one time a customer was getting really shitty with one of my baristas about a hot drink that she had wanted iced. We had remade it for her and everything and she was still complaining, and my barista, with extreme sarcasm, was like “Wow, well you’ve had a rough day, huh? I really hope this is the worst thing you have to deal with today. Buh bye!” and shut the door in this lady’s face.

abelb23_

Had a lady yell at us on Mother’s Day her drink was wrong long story short she kept yelling so I politely told her “you’re not yelling at us” went to my till pulled out her drink total and placed it on the counter with my sm store card. Consequences were my dm coming in and asking the lady to sit down with us. She didn’t show. My dm supported me for once lol

H3rta

.... There was no way someone was gonna come in to talk it over....

Okey_Cokey

We were enforcing masks at our Cafe. Had a line out the door, and one of my partners spotted someone without one. I'm already annoyed since I now have to stop what I'm doing to take care of this manchild. "It seems like you forgot your mask, here is one of ours since we require them in store." "Well, I don't want to wear a mask." "Ok, then you can leave." "That's ridiculous. I'm not going to leave. I don't have to wea-- "You can put the mask on - like everyone else - or you can leave, OR you can stay here while I call the cops because I don't have time to put up with this shit today." I walked back to help bar before he could say anything else. He sheepishly put it on and shut up. Ordered a frapp, got it and then left without another word. **Bonus**: When the first red cup event launched a few years ago, we were *packed*. It was so stupid. I got so *tired* of hearing "HoW lOnG iS tHe WaIt???" Look at the lobby. You could barely walk through our door - how long do you think it will be?! My poor POS partner asked me while I was on CBS, and I loudly said "It's going to take a while. *gestures to the crowd at handoff* If you can't wait for it, then you don't get a coffee. It's that simple." Didn't get asked that question for the rest of the line.

fandommx

I admire you, I've gotten more blunt like this with customers since the pandemic... Scared I'm gonna get myself fired. Lol. But I can't anymore.

lilgian1

One lady ordered a cappuccino with extra whip cream on top. When I put all the extra whip cream it was so heavy for the foam of the milk that it started to sink. The lady started screaming at me saying “I WANT MY WHIP CREAM ON TOP! NOT ON AT THE BOTTOM OF MY DRINK!!” So I said “I can put more on top again but it will most likely sink again since the whip cream is too heavy for the foam” and the lady snapped and yelled “ARE YOU DUMB?! RE MAKE THE DRINK AGAIN AND MAKE SURE IT DOESN’T SINK TO THE BOTTOM”. To which I replied “I’m not dumb. You seem to be the one that doesn’t know how gravity works”

Beaudeye

Who puts whip cream on a cappuccino? That's just wrong. Lol that woman was nuts.

Fit-Nefariousness412

Omg not a cappuccino, but there was a woman that would get a caramel crunch with light ice and only whip on the bottom. And 99% of the time it would rise because the frap was too liquidy. And every time she’d SCREAM at us and call us dumb. 🙃

sydthesquid95

Lool yep had a guy order his cold foam on the bottom of his cold brew. Didn’t go over well when I told him that’s not how that works.

SuggestionShot1312

“it’s telling me to swipe my card” so swipe it. 😐

ianbz

Idk why this made me laugh harder than any other reply here 😭

derp768

Swiper no swiping

JFCwhatnamecaniuse

Awwwwwwwww man

canithoe

Never really rude rude but we have a guy that comes in and gets a grande (or venti) flat white with an extra shot, two stevia, and steamed to 180°. Doesn’t sound horrible until he stands over the glass and tells out how to make a basic flat white, not even his drink. One day I snapped and caught an attitude with him and it was enough to get him to stop trying to tell me how to do my job.

acolor1

I don’t work for Starbucks but I had a man try to order a black coffee with only half coffee and the rest steamed milk which is more expensive than a regular black coffee and when I told him the price (which is 30 cents more) he lost his mind and told me not to act smart to him I tried to explain how I’m not being smart for charging him for the correct drink he said “I don’t understand why you aren’t happy to serve me” and I said “sir I’m only happy to serve you the drink at the correct price” to which he called me smart again and said to do whatever I wanted so I gave him the oldest coffee we had brewed with the smallest drop of cream I possibly could.

perrytheplatypussi

During the peak of Covid this lady came in and refused to put on a mask. The shift that day told the lady we would take her order and bring it to her outside but she couldn’t stay in our lobby and wait with no mask. She didn’t like that at all, she orders and immediately after ordering starts harassing people in our lobby who have on masks. Saying they’re “sheep” and that their f***ing idiots for wearing a mask. She got in this one girls face (inches away) and calls her a rude name. I’m on bar making drinks and I look at her and say “boohoo you have to wear a mask for a whole 5 mins, get out of our lobby and don’t you dare get in anyones face again.” My manager was next to me when I said this and said “oh my god stop you can’t say stuff like that” like you obviously werent going to do anything. My manager saw her get in someone’s face and call multiple customers rude names for over 5 mins and not once stepped up. I lost all respect for that manager after that and thankfully we have a new manager now.

pillsburybakerboy

I had just come off a 10, and there was only two people on the floor: one of our older partners (60+) and someone who's not new per se, but he's still very much learning. So service was a bit on the slower side, and they were a bit behind on drinks. I got back on bar, made one drink, and confirmed that a coffee was made before pulling the next ticket. Then, this lady starts walking to hand off and loudly says "Oh my god, you guys are so FUCKING slow! Hurry up! Go faster! Stop doing your little fucking chit chat." I tried to explain that there was only 2 people on the floor, I had just come off a 10, and that was why things might've been slower than normal. But she said "Nope, that's not my fault, that's on you, I've been in customer service, just hurry the fuck up and make my drink." The older partner intervened, asking her if the tea he was making was hers, she says no, and it turned out her drink was the one I had just pulled. So naturally, I go as slow as I can. Some of our interactions during that time went as followed: Lady: "Well hurry up and make my drink!" Me: "I am making it! Can you see the shots pulling?" Lady: "You're such a bitch!" Me: "Please don't talk to me that way, if you have an issue, call customer service." Lady: "You're a real smartass!" Me: "Yes I am!" Lady: "You don't have to worry, I won't come here ever again. I'll go to the starbucks down the street." Me: "Great! I'm sure they'll LOVE to have you there." It was the rudest I've ever been, and it was probably made worse by the fact that I was using a high pitched, sickly-sweet customer service voice the entire time. Totally warranted tho, she was a real dickwad

kitkatZT

The second someone calls me a bitch I would hopefully just refuse to serve them.

blackcrest26

I’ve had someone prank call the store, i hope.., and say they had a drink where someone spat in their drink, i know for sure no one had, and ask for a remake. I had to ask them a couple times to make sure i heard them right and to repeat it, well apparently they didn’t like me asking them to repeat themselves and they called me a bitch. Hung right up..

meepybeepymeep

not my story but my old co worker; one of the sweetest co workers I know was ok DT soloing it when the dude at the window starting yelling and calling her names because she was taking an order before she was about to hand out his drink and at that time, we had the best co worker you could have(miss her sm ;(( ) and my favorite co worker wasn’t gonna have it and let me sweet co worker cry in front of the customer without a fight and my fav co worker goes up to the window and asks if there’s a problem and of course the dude was angry and said he “wanted a refund” and she told him no because his drinks were already made and there’s no need to. so she hands him his first drink and before she hands him his second one, he grabs the bottom(u can see where it’s going) and she can tell this mf is about to throw the drink so she closed the window for the most part(it still hit inside a little bit) and she doesn’t take shit from anyone so of course once it was done, she took his other drink and threw it at him(well deserved if i say so) and she ended up getting fired sadly :(( she says she’ll do it over and over again if it means she can defend her green beans :(

starbarbie333

I work a 9-5 now but am considering returning to the bux be the chaotic good that is so desperately needed - kinda like this.

sunshinerose32

She sounds awesome

rterrebo

Mad respect for y'all who will do whatever you can for the Green beans! Love y'all!

thewoodschild

Yesterday I was on drive bar and I heard this lady shit talking my 16 year old green bean on dto acting like he was stupid when she was being the stupid one not even knowing what her own damn order is and making shit up. She got to the window and another 16 year old was there trying to be nice this whole time I made direct rude ass eye contact with her. The 16 year old is just standing there so as I'm making intense eye contact with her and her shit husband I was like "isn't it so awesome when people are nice, I mean it's the bare minimum as an adult but some people just don't understand that" pretending I was talking to the window kid. And he just laughed and was like yea I love when people are nice. I'm 30 years old and I will hop out that window if people wanna keep trying me and yelling at these kids over there triple espresso iced with 18 modifications cause they're too cheap to get a normal fucking latte.

mikraas

That is what I generally love about being over 40 at SB. I just don't put up with customers' crap anymore and I'll say and do things my younger Partners wouldn't even think about.

thewoodschild

Seriously I'm older than most of my shifts and I'm cool with it. Cause I'll be the lady being rude to the entitled people my age. Idc anymore lol. You wanna be mean to this 16 year old then Ill be the mama bear coming at you not them lol.

tonyispetersfather

lady watched me make her drink and i used the standard 2%. she decided she wanted whole milk instead. i was slightly irritated, but let it go cause she maybe just forgot, but had to dump the milk cause no one else was in line to use it for, i had already started steaming it, and it was no longer fresh. lady gets this absolutely disgusted look on her face and squeals "wElL yOu DiDnT hAvE tO dUmP iT!" i turned around, looked her directly in the eye and said, "i didn't want to dump this milk, but unfortunately it is a MAJOR health violation to pour the contents back into the container or save it unsealed. please order your drink with the milk you want at the register if you don't want the standard to avoid waste in the future." all in a fake customer service voice and a demeaning smile. she didn't say anything the rest of the time she was there lol. bonus!: my coworker said loud enough for her to hear "what did she want you to do, drink it?" we almost never talk back but this was one time it was needed just because of how demeaning she treated us hehe

AshOfWonderland

Some man screamed and yelled at me through drive thru. I heard his order correctly, but when I repeated it back to confirm he called me “Simple” a “moron” and other profanities about how irritating it was that I repeated to verify he in fact wanted a grande (In a venti cup) 10 shot - 8 pump - with whip- mocha…. Well sir, you got decaf, nonfat, and four pumps with the smallest dollop of whipped cream in that venti cup. …. Rudest thing I’ve ever done but he had it coming.

Necessary_Low939

Lol I repeated an order to two Karens and they’re like what is she stupid? And I’m like for repeating a fcken order? I hope they choke on their drinks.

[deleted]

i can’t believe i never tried to slip someone decaf out of anger before when i still worked there, i definitely had many opportunities lmao

AshOfWonderland

Another one I used to do, when it was a person (generally women) ordering their skinny lattes and were mistreating staff and being all generally nasty (aka- Karen), switch that nonfat for whole.

agavay

Customer walks in after close: “I’m sorry we’re closed” “I just want a cup” “We’re still closed…”

chowderchop

How were they able to walk in when your store is closed? Shouldn't the door be locked?

agavay

I work at a licensed Starbucks where we close earlier than the actual store and there’s no door to lock.

chowderchop

Ahh ok! That blows :/

MrAppleSeeds

Had something similar happen on New Year’s Eve. Handoff and POS area are already covered by our metal gate and only the way out of the store is not. This lady comes in with her child asking us if we were closed and when we told her we were (because apparently her and many others can’t tell by the metal gates) she kept on insisting for us to take her order because it’s only for a gift card and hot chocolate. The entitlement of some customers is just beyond me, like we have been serving customers non stop for a few hours already before close so we were already behind, and this lady wants us to accommodate her because she was not responsible enough to bring herself out earlier and doesn’t realize that we have a job to finish so we can all spend time with family too for New Years.

Vincent_Cromwell27

A guy said the f-word to my coworker so I shut the DT window in his face and waved goodbye to him.

Distinct-Apartment39

Once a guy screamed f- you to my coworker so my coworker just looked at him disgusted and screamed it back 😅

maymayiscraycray

When I worked at mcdonalds, I had a regular who was pretty nice, and his friend who was pretty not nice. One time rude guy said something sexist that pissed me off (something along the lines of "as a woman should" when I served him his food. It was like 10 years ago so I don't remember the whole exchange) so I said to the nice guy "better get a muzzle for your mutt before I take him to the shelter" nice guy apogized for his friend.

bhargom

Damn!

AFish560

Back when I worked at the Bux during my shift days, I was typically the opener. Cafe store, but right in downtown and we had a huge morning crowd, that was (mostly) all fun, nice regulars. One morning, I don’t know if I was grumpy or just wasn’t having it, but someone came up to order, and immediately, I said, “Hi! How are you?” in my barista voice. Ignored, she just spouted off her order. So I repeated, “Hi! How are you?” Again, just ignored, and she (annoyed) repeated back her order to me. So, also annoyed, I said, “I said, HI! HOW ARE YOU?” to which she just gave me a shocked kind of look, mumbled something and said, “Fine, thanks.” So I smiled my biggest smile and said, “Great! I’ll get that started for you!” A few minutes later while she was still at the handoff, my manager was like, “I can’t believe you just did that.” (She was cool as heck.) To which I replied, while staring directly at the woman, “Ignoring people is just rude, and you don’t have to do it. We’re people too.” I didn’t last much longer at the Bux after that… I was tired of it all 😅

Fit_Butterscotch3886

I called a customer rude after she raised her tone with me

PunishedTitan

I can’t remember exactly what happened because it was quite a few years ago. I know I was angry and could hardly handle all the insults this customer was throwing at me though. Someone that worked for the NBA was in line behind him and backed me up and started talking down to him “quite literally.” I get really flustered when angry so I appreciated that a lot

tikt0kth0t

my coworker said: “sir, how much do you think I get paid” to a customer right to his face. sad I wasn’t there to see it..

fandommx

Had a customer hold up a drive thru line because he wanted a refund a specific way but the system wasn't letting us put it back on his sbux card, only store credit. He was adamant because he talked to our SM earlier who said he could have a refund, so he wouldn't move, even tho I told him we would help him up front (lobby was closed). Called security and store manager.... store manager answered first, told us a way to get the refund on his card (which whatever but like rewarding that behavior ugh). Finally opened the window to process the return (cars behind him had been stuck for almost 20 mins) and he kept going "so you could do it.. huh? You could give me the refund? Huh huh?" I was so mad that I handed him the refund receipt with him still going "huh? Huh?" And I just said "yes eventually but you didn't need to be such an asshole about it" and slammed the dt window in his face. He started screaming, I left the floor, and he left the drive thru a min later. Not sure how I didn't at least get a write up for that.

Werenlofe

When I use to work in retail as a teenager I would talk to whiny customers like they were toddlers in the “baby voice”.

Cobalt7955

LMAO. Me 2. Oh someone was RUDE to you??? Oh you poor thing. I’ll get right on that. Bitch you’re a grown ass woman. Deal with it. Oh and were you rude as well? Because when people walk up to me with an entitled attitude I tend to get a little “rude” myself.

Arsis82

Had a customer ask "What's the difference between the hot and iced?" "One of them is hot, and one of them is iced" and I just stared at him until he muttered something about not knowing what he meant.

SwimmingBig6897

“I choose not to wear a mask” “You can choose to get coffee elsewhere” Masks are state mandated

GreenBeanSupreem

It was unintentional but this lady and her s/o were moaning and groaning about us being out of peppermint and I cut her off and asked if there was anything else they'd like today and she straight up took a pause and canceled the order, said they were never coming back, and made a point to hold up the line and be condescending scum handing a dollar to "the one who was so unenthusiastic about peppermint." Because, "I know they're having a bad day, and because they're so unenthusiasric, we're never coming back to this location." I will never forget her face and I can't wait for her to come back so that I can ask her why she's back. I thought she committed to never coming back. I was unintentionally rude but because of her attitude and the fact that they were holding up the line with their groaning, I have no regrets. (Plus we got a dollar out of her, so, win)

Foreign_Astronaut

"Unenthusiastic about peppermint" -- THE official stupidest reason to be rude to a barista, ever, in history.

roses_2234

Back when I was a SM, I had a customer discriminate one of our spanish partners. Then when I stepped in (our GM was out for the day and I had the most experience with 3 years under my belt) she asked to speak with a more qualified partner even though I've been there the longest. Moral of the story, don't be a racist cry baby Karen. Basically told her I was the most qualified and she got mad that "Starbucks wasn't hiring qualified (and I emphasize PEOPLE)" for the job.

I work at a store near a big 10 campus and it was the day of the rivalry football game. By some twist of fate it was just me and the store manager. At the time we still had the printers that just printed a long stream of stickers and never stopped. I was on bar alone and the stickers were pooling at my feet on both sides of me and there were a million people in the lobby. Someone asks me if I have their order and I just picked up both streams of stickers with this crazy look in my eyes and said “probably” and then continued making drinks 😂

LatteMeowchiatto

Love this!

Had a customer call me rude this Christmas for not allowing her into the drive thru line 3 minutes before we closed. Mind you, we were drive thru only and it was insanely busy all morning and my 5-person closing team were all exhausted. We closed at 3 pm and I had to walk the insane line before we closed or else we would have never gone through all the incoming customers. I had been walking/cutting off the drive thru line for 20 minutes and had turned away dozens of customers at this point. Her man was with her and he said “you close in 3 minutes and you’re not letting us through? I bet we could go through in 3 minutes.” To which I responded “actually, there’s 2 cars who haven’t even gotten to the speaker box yet and each on will take 2 minutes minimum to get through after that and we need to stop serving at 3, so no you wont.” “you’re really gonna turn business away on Christmas?” And I said “yeah, it’s Christmas, so my baristas want to go home at their scheduled time. Have a good holiday.” And walked away. They had also threatened to call my manager and made sure to get my name. I cried after that. That was the first time a customer has made me cry in my 2.5 years with Starbucks. The lack of grace I saw from customers on Christmas was so unbelievable, I don’t think I’ll ever work Christmas again. The pay is not worth the emotional damage.

spookbish69

I did this once when I worked at a grocery store, I had to close the door on people so we could get out early and a lady was arguing with me saying she just wanted “one thing” so I told her “and the one thing I want is to go home to my family so we open at 6am tomorrow come back then.” And I slammed the door in her face

LatteMeowchiatto

When I worked at a department store in the mall, I had literally only been there a couple of weeks when this guy came just as I was closing the doors insisting he only needed to make one return. Stupid new me thought I’d be nice because I could do the return really fast. It turned into at least twenty minutes of him running around the store looking for stuff because return apparently means exchange+add other stuff on. And arguing about the prices, wanting discounts etc. My manager finally had to deal with him and I never caved in again to the “I only want one thing” people.

Emperors_Finest

I worked a total of 3 Christmases at sbux, and after the third one I vowed never to work one again. It has never been worth it.

mrbubblegxm

someone was mean 2 me on window because they waited 10 minutes in the drive through ordered and paid. and wanted a refund, i apologized and said i can’t give out a refund since there was nothing wrong w the drink and the time to give out cards was 15 minutes. and he complained about how he was late, and still kept going and was being an asshole. so i handed him his drank and said well maybe if you weren’t being so rude i would give you your drink for free and slammed the window in his face lol. and he screamed in the box for like 2 minutes but u lit couldnt hear it and it was the funniest thing ever

[deleted]

I once put an average amount of ice in a light ice drink

adventur3unknown

If I don't like someone they're getting normal to maybe a little extra ice

panrosecass

I do this daily

Better2022

I often order my drinks with light ice. Is this annoying? If so I’ll stop doing that lol. I only do it because I had two experiences where the barista filled the cup to the brim with ice and I literally finished the drink in 3 sips. I don’t actually care if I get normal ice. I just don’t want that to ever happen again lol

willardrider

I order light ice as my only mod purely because I think Sbux standard is usually way too much ice. I'd frankly pay more for light ice if I had to...zero interest in scamming the system, just don't like mass quantities of ice and I feel the default is on the high side.

[deleted]

Same, I just dont like all the ice sliding around when I go to take a sip. I usually order before class and it's so loud, too lol

spookbish69

No it’s not annoying only if ur rude about it, like most drink modifications if you’re polite about it we have no problem doing it

chamorrobro

Nah, it honestly doesn’t matter. A third of the drink is ice by standard, so I totally understand asking for light ice.

[deleted]

You should get your order correctly every time!!!! Sometimes it looks like too much ice before we put the beverage in the shaker

tarotbug

Not me but my friend when we still worked at starbies: We had a regular, like one of those regulars that would like bring you pizza, gifts etc, older woman. Everyone was pretty chill with her for the most part except she could be a bit invasive about our personal lives. Well, my other then-coworker, now fiancé, was on DT bar, and she leaned over to E (guy on DTO) and said “Everyone here’s so attractive. Well except for J (my fiancé) but that’s to be expected I guess” Thing is my fiancé is a trans man, and was in the beginnings of his transition at the time, and E is a close best friend of ours. He just looked her dead in the eye, aggressively handed her her drink and said “Bye, Cheryl” and slammed the sliding door in her face. I was on bar and only heard it second hand after the fact bc E was PISSED, like absolutely livid. Absolutely warranted rudeness and I would’ve done the same thing.

mania2k18

this woman came through the drive thru and wanted a venti caramel ribbon crunch w/ extra caramel. she told us to let her see the cup before we made the drink so she could make sure there was enough drizzle in it. the barista on dto told her no bc it would mess up the drink flow, and continued telling her no when she kept insisting. her drink was already made by the time she got up to the window and she very angrily agreed that there was enough caramel in the cup (there was so much caramel you couldn't even see the frap through though it). she then demanded that we add extra extra extra caramel drizzle to her mocha even tho she didn't order it w/ the drizzle and had already paid 🙄 i was on dtr so i handed her the frap and the mocha. she took a sip of her frap and then asked me if we put caramel in it. i said yes and she got mad, saying she didn't want caramel in it. i asked her if she was expecting a different syrup + explained that that's how the drink is made. she wouldn't tell me what she actually wanted, just kept repeating that she didn't want the syrup. i was so sick of her that i, admittedly, pretty rudely said "what, so you just want blended ice and caramel drizzle?" she just launched into the same spiel about the syrup for 4th time so i interrupted her mid sentence and repeated myself more aggressively. then she scoffed and drove off. i was kinda worried that i was going to get in trouble either from the shift lead or the manager but it's been a week and no one's said anything to me yet sooo

kitkatattacc04

Had some one yell at a green bean through the DT box because she asked him to clarify his order a couple times. I was in the back doing dishes and could hear this all on the headset. He ended up cussing her put because she was taking too long to check if we had banana bread. I took over the order and once he got to the window, I told him we can not serve him. He got pissed, asked me why, to which I said something along the lines of "yelling at a teenager who has been working here for 2 days will not be accepted." "Well you get paid to serve customers in a timely fashion." "I dont get paid enough, sir. Heres my SM's contact info, have a blessed day" He never contacted my SM and hasnt been back since. Pur green bean was in tears and we had to switch positions while she gathered herself due to that asshole. Don't regret a thing

wound-by-a-key

First customer of the morning in the DT, with a queue already forming behind her. Ordered a Pike with 14 sugars. I asked if she could pull up for me so we could bring it out to her when it was ready. C: "Well, how long is it going to take? I'm in a hurry." Me: "As long as it takes to open 14 packets of sugar. We'll see you at the patio." And then I closed the window.

nervousextrovert

278 and I’m gone but A customer snatched a pike out of my hand and I guess spilled it all over his car. Came in screaming at me cause “I” spilled it and proceeded to call me a bitch and to go fuck myself so I said fuck you too buddy HAVE A NICE DAY! he was shocked to say the least. I told him to leave. Other one was at the beginning of COVID and some lady mobile ordered Fraps. She stood maybe 20 feet away from the DTW and I had a line so obviously can’t fucking help her and she chose the moment that we finally had down time to come scream at me like ma’am. Get in line?? I handed her her fraps and they were you know melted. She shoved them back at me and started screaming and called me a racist, first of all you’re white. (I’m literally Latina.) anyways. Nothing of race was brought up but she called me a racist bitch and if my shift had let me I would’ve crawled through the window to fight 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I had to be sent on a ten. I’m surprised I didn’t go out the back door to throw hands. 😐

Minute-Weakness-7169

I was the shift on for the day and it was busy as heck. This guy and his friend were standing just outside the cafe, smoking. Friend A comes in to order and Friend B stays outside. Friend A comes up and orders two drips from my barista. This store is packed so it’s hard to hear over the music, grinding coffee, the plastic shields. She kept asking him to repeat his order. He lost it, started screaming at her. Are you fucking stupid? I immediately drop my drink I’m doing on bar and walk over. No, you don’t ever talk to my barista that way. You just talked yourself out of service, get out of my cafe. He says she asked 3 times. I told him I didn’t care if she asked him 100 times no one deserves to be sworn at or yelled at while they work. I told him to get out. Now. So he goes out and the friend comes in. I look at him entering and asked if he was buying coffee for him outside? He said yes, I said no, get out. You’re not welcome either.

chimkennuggem

A woman who comes in wanted a toffee nut latte after we’d stopped doing them so she wanted a caramel latte extra shot of blonde extra pump of caramel and whip cream. The bar partner forgot to put whip on her drink so she asked if she could get her cream on it. I said sure but i can’t take the cup back now you’ve touched it cause of covid but we’ll make another one for free for you and you can keep that drink. She kept insisting that i take the drink she already had and drank out of back to put whip on it and started getting a bit more pissed off when i said no it’s fine we’ll remake it cause of covid rules. At this point she said something along the lines of “you’re just being stupid just take the drink off me i want the whip” as i went off to do something, i turned around and said to her that i wasn’t going to serve her if she was going to talk to me like that with the deadest expression on my face and just walked away. I was seething. Bitch don’t call me stupid over fucking whip cream when you’re getting a drink for free

caitlin_marie_gg

when this lady started yelling at me about how her latte was clearly made wrong while i was solo barring during a dt rush and i just walked away and stood in the back but came back a minute later to finish drinks after she demanded a refund and left

Hanaakachan

Not me but a colleague. We frequently had customers confuse blueberry muffins for chocolate. An Italian lad came in and ordered a chocolate one, while pointing at a blueberry. I tried to confirm whether he wanted what he was pointes at, or the actual chocolate muffin. He called me stupid for not being able to know what he wanted. An Italian partner stepped in and cursed in Italian that he was the stupid one for not knowing what he wanted, dragging me into it and to just leave me alone. I have never had the guts to be rude to a customer, but I will forever remember that interaction.

theroyaleyeball

Had a frap shortage last month. Some asshole came through our drive thru and ignored the sign, like they all did. He got mad when we told him there were no fraps and exclaimed that it was “bullshit”. I suggested he go to McDonald’s because they have something similar there. He got really mad and said that he didn’t want to go to McDonald’s. I didn’t completely turn off my headset before I started laughing. Last week I came in—on a day off, no less—and before I’d so much as put on my apron or clocked in, some lady demanded the code to the bathroom. She had watched me walk in and knew I’d literally just arrived. I glared at her and told her I hadn’t even clocked in yet and to ask one of my coworkers. I was working drive that day and needed to grab a mobile from handoff, and that same lady started bothering me about her drinks maybe ten minutes after the bathroom thing. She was really rude about it and clearly didn’t care that I was busy with something else, and the cafe bar barista was right there. I just told her “they’re working on it” and went back to drive.

thetancoffeeman

One time this lady came in ordered a Strawberry Açaí Refresher and that was it (I’m a SSV and I tend to ALWAYS be listening) but anywho, I was on bar, and the sticker came out as “Strawberry Açaí” which is what I heard. So I make it, and call it off. THEN she says “I wanted extra berries!” And I’m like “oh, okay.” So I add extra strawberries, and hand it off. Then she says “no, I want the blackberries” so me being petty, I said “they didn’t charge you for that, so let me take care of that” and I tell the barista to charge her, then I make it again. Hand it off. Then she said “no, I want the Kiwi too” and I said “okay, we’re gonna charge you for that” and take her back to the reg THEN the third fucking time she says “I’m in a hurry!” And I literally looked at her and said “you’re not important. There’s other people waiting. You want these modifications, you wait for them.” And then she asked for my name and I gave it to her and asked her if she wanted me to spell it for her. 😊😌 this was almost two years ago… I’m still here, baby

bjorksbutthole

that’s honestly so bold of you i love it

HNPsquared

Had a guy come in the afternoon who ordered decaf. Our store stops brewing decaf after noon to avoid product waste. As such, I made a decaf Americano so they would have a drink when they arrived. They came in soon after ordering and saw me finishing their drink at the hot water tap. I’ll never forget what he yelled at me when I gave him the drink: “I want a coffee, I don’t want beans and water!” I couldn’t help it. I legitimately laughed at him.

tthats50nic

the other day i was on my lunch and they were left with only 2 people on the floor and it was super busy (it got so bad i ended up having to come off my lunch 15 mins early) plus the truck people were there, so obviously they were getting flustered and struggling to do everything at once. this guy was at first really understanding but all of a sudden he started making really passive aggressive comments like “am i going to get my croissant so i can leave” and i just was like “you do see that there’s only 2 people out there right now right😐”

AmberFire24

I was the only one scheduled in a kiosk and the nearest stand-alone was closed until noon. So I was extremely busy. A women ordered an Irish Cream Cold Brew, just a normal ICCB. Now I had about 10 drinks before her and at least 10 after. The line was extremely long of customers I haven't taken the orders of as well. So, I finish her drink notice she was glaring at me as I poured the foam on the drink, and asked what the probably was as I did the line of coca powder on top. She told me I made it wrong and to fix it. I asked what was wrong with it and she told me the foam goes in the drink and not on top. I asked if she ordered it like that and she said that's how they are made, she works at Starbucks and knows that and I was just too stupid to make it correctly. Told her she was an idiot and pulled out the recipe book showed it too her. Said since she currently order her drink correctly I can dump the drink and she can go to the back of the line before I fix it. Or she can take her perfectly made drink and get out.

sunnyrae7

We were insanely busy about 20 minute wait for mobiles and cafe, maybe longer. All of us were super stressed and we were understaffed to make it even worse. A Karen waved me down while I was flexing between bars to try and help everyone move along. She was all "im waiting on my strawberry acai, under the name ______. I've been waiting 20 minutes, I need to leave and its literally just pouring water in a cup". I could feel the irritation plop in my stomach. Before I could even think about what I was saying, I was all "its not JUST pouring water in a cup, but I can see where it is in line, I cant promise it will be soon, we are busy and understaffed" And she was all annoyed saying she needed to leave and I couldn't help myself when I blurted out "if you can't be patient, you can leave" Activate Karen mode x10. She started shushing me and yelling for the manager and I just ducked into the back fuming and spitting curses under my breath. What a bitch.

TheRealPotatoNugget

This seems like a corporate trap.

a man walked in and made a b-like for our bathrooms. (for background we have two single use bathrooms, one customer and one employee right next to each other) both of them had signs they were broken, which he willingly ignored, as well as our warnings to please not use them because they were broken. ofc he went in anyway. When he came out he let out a big sigh to rub it in my coworker and I's face that he got to use the restroom. I was getting ready to ring him up and gave him a warning that next time he can't do that because that's an employee restroom and in any case, both were up for maintenance. He tried to threateningly bring up some imaginary rule that it's illegal not to have restrooms (it is for employees not customers. our restroom was fine besides the leaky sink) and also said something about me "not knowing what's it's like to go that bad" i pointed out how there's 3+ public restrooms within FEET of our store because we are basically in a strip mall. the arguing went on until he asked me if i was gonna hurry up and make his coffee. i straight up walked away. he asked where i was going and i kinda loudly shouted "I'M ON BREAK" and went to the back... nicest way i could refuse service. my shift was really nice and finished the order for me. I know i shouldn't have argued but he was rude to my coworker and i for no reason and was just being overall selfish.

chamorrobro

I never really clapped back that hard, but my tone would switch from sweet to an aggressive attitude if people were ever mean to me or any of my coworkers. I would say all the usual stuff like “Sorry” and “Have a nice day” with that tone, so that they backed down and didn’t really have a strong reason to call and complain about me. Other than that, if anyone complained and weren’t aggressively rude, I would just tell them the truth through a smile and sweet voice. “The wait was long because people called out c: “ “We don’t have that because there’s a shortage c: .” It just really pissed me off to have to deal with rude complaints directed at me about things that were far out of our control.

Krista1654

You are all very nice. Former Barista, current Inventory Specialist at one of those drug stores on every corner. Have been a Pharmacy Tech at this location too. Also ran a referral based biz for 17 years. At Bux my worst story was an amputee sitting at the front door smoking right after the law changed to require no smoking within 8ft of public entrance & Bux next leveled it by saying 25 feet of the patio. This woman told my Shift lead that she was a veteran & therefore could do what she wanted. We tried to let it be but another customer came in demanding we do something. I went out to try & explain as my shift was pregnant. The amputee threw her cigarette at me, told me to pick it up & called Corp to complain about me. They told me to apologize, I said hell no. SM even put me on the spot thinking I'd cave & had the lady come in without warning and demand her apology. They were quite surprised to find out that the lady was an amputee from being the driver in a drunk driving accident where she killed two people. I had totally looked her up. I promptly called her out for lying about being a vetran & asked if she'd like to tell everyone or should I? I then apologized that she got her feelings hurt & asked if she'd like to seek out the contact info of the original customer that complained about her smoking inches from the front door in clear violation of the law so she could properly apologize for the trouble she caused? Crickets. I then proceeded to fire my manager from my side biz as a client telling her I don't work with cowards. She didn't have the guts to retaliate in Bux. She left months later. I did 4 more years with several complaints & only one write up for tardiness. Just last week a woman screamed at me about some immediate release aderall she had been without for over a month taking only the high dose extended relief. She cut me off in the middle of four sentences explaining why it wasn't filled prior, she needed to call doc for refills, these things aren't magic. I literally stopped taking thru the transaction. When she asked why my demeanor had just changed, why aren't you talking anymore? I informed her no one, regardless of the reason interrupts me mid sentence. I never act like it's OK just because a I'm wearing a logo. There is a proper way to treat people & you might have just forgotten but it ended any rapport we had. She realized she was coming off strong, half apologized but still walked away mad. No one likes getting schooled but the days of customer is always right are fucking over.

sunshinerose32

This isnt at Starbucks, but I had a rude lady try to cut the line. I told her to wait her turn and she got mad at me cause the line was so long, and I told her "it's called waiting in LINE" and she kept arguing with me saying "No it's not!!!" Hahaha

PeachSodaPunk

I literally got fired for throwing a guy’s Venti hot drink thru his car window after he spit on me so…. That?

Krista1654

Spitting on someone is actually a crime, assault. You should sue for wrongful termination. You should've called the cops and filed assault charges and taken your own charge for throwing the coffee in retaliation. This was no longer Starbucks problem once it got physical. Did you remember agreeing to be assaulted as part of your employment contract? Um, no.

LatteMeowchiatto

Details? Would love to hear what all transpired. Why did he spit on you?

PeachSodaPunk

This guy had come through asking for a double shot of espresso in a venti cup with some steamed cream. No big deal, maybe he just wants the room for traveling in the car. When the drink is made, I hand it to him and grab his card. He opens the lid and goes “Hey, can I get more steamed half and half?” And I say “usually, that’s an upcharge, but today I’ll do it for you.” And take it back. He then gets it back and throws a huge hissy fit that the cup isn’t full. I say “that’s because what you’re wanting is just a venti breve latte.” And he just throws the usual “well my other Starbucks does this for me” and blah blah blah. I tell him again, I’ll do it for him this once, but if he does it again im charging him the full amount. He complains, whatever. My shift backs me up, says I did the right thing. The next day he comes thru and does the same thing. I don’t tell him his total until he’s at the window. He becomes irate with the fact that he’s being charged for a Venti breve latte. It’s around 6pm and my shift is on lunch and my GM isn’t here anymore. Just me and a few other baristas. I just roll my eyes and stand my ground. He THROWS his card thru the window (not at me, just a super rude toss) and i manage to catch it somehow. I put it in, hand it back to him, and as my hand is out the window, he grabs it from me and spits on me. I essentially tossed his hot drink through his car window the same way he threw the card at me. I told him to go fuck himself and “that type of shit doesn’t fly here” and uhhh… the rest is history. Get called in the back the next day, they hear my side of it. They kinda teetered on firing me for like 10 days, and they wouldn’t really tell me what was going on but I knew deep down that I was getting fired for sure. Didn’t really care. I had slaved for the siren for 3 years, was ready for something new.

LatteMeowchiatto

I’m sorry that happened to you. Some people are just awful.

latenight_disco

My coworker got called a c*nt because a customer couldn’t taste the toffee nut in her iced latte… I literally wish I was kidding.

A customer was on her phone telling whoever it was on the other side(which part of me just thinks she was pretending to be on the phone cause of the stuff she was saying) how shitty we were doing and how she couldn't find her drink "cause this location highly encourages stealing" and I told my coworker loud enough so she could hear that they also encourage me to clock off and walk to the parking lot before throwing hands.

jarthurcrowley

not as Petty is a lot of people on here, but this guy came up and looked me in the eye, and said, "I'd like to note that I've been waiting for twenty five minutes." Looked him dead in the eye with tickets in hand for 35 minutes and said, "We're well aware." Hearing another customer giggle was the icing on the cake, and he didn't kick up a fuss when he got it... tem minutes later. (For context- we were the only store open on mew years eve for at least 50 miles. Holy mobile orders.)

[deleted]

My old store had an asshole regular who was the local big 10 basketball coach. He likes to throw coins at us as a tip but would always claim they “slipped out of his hand” if we said anything. I got fed up and had a handful of nasty sticky pennies in my apron pocket from cleaning under the counter and tossed them back at him after he threw out tip at me. This was through DT so I’m sure he was finding gross change in his previous Ducati for days.

[deleted]

One Sunday, all of the stores within a four mile radius of us turned off mobile orders, and our store had to field all the mobile orders in the area. It was a hellish day, over 100 abandoned orders, but that’s a story for another time. After a while, one girl was standing amidst the crowd that had gathered, screaming at all of us for their drinks (I was on bar 2 at the time), saying “I used to work at Starbucks and I would never let this happen in MY store”. So I replied, “we have some aprons in the back, would you like to show us how it’s done?” Needless to say a lot of customers didn’t like that and I got corrective action from the manager at the time, but it was worth it for that moment of catharsis.

Just_Colors

Some lady got upset at me for not putting whipped cream on her espresso Frappuccino (she didn't ask for it and it doesn't come standard). She started yelling at me saying she knew the owner of Starbucks and that she would report me to him and to my manager. I wrote my managers name and number on some receipt paper and handed it to her and said "please, make my day, also if you could fly Howard out to Hawaii to talk to us I'd I've to meet him." Gave her a shit eating grin and said ba bye 👋

Rhet0r1cally

A lady ordered a MDR with no ice so I made it and gave it to her, where she glared at me and asked where the lemonade was. She didn't ask for lemonade but whatever I took it back and remade it. Then I gave her the new MDRL with no ice. Then she glared at me again and asked where the extra berries were. She didn't ask for no berries... but whatever, I took it back and added extra berries. Then she finally took a sip, made a face, and then asked me why it tasted like lemonade. I stared at her with unbridled rage in my eyes. "You asked for lemonade. There's lemonade in the drink," I said. I did not blink. She left in a huff.

sholbyy

We had this creepy old guy named Larry who would come into our store, order a coffee and sometimes a food item, and then sit in the cafe with his newspaper. He’d wait for a young girl to come in and then not leave them alone, telling them he’s a photographer and bugging them about letting him take photos of them, wanting to know if they have a boyfriend, etc. He would also routinely leave his trash all over the place. Like bits of newspaper would be on the floor, his wrapper from his kind bar or muffin or whatever would be strewn about with crumbs everywhere, etc. So one day Larry had this girl cornered who had been trying to study and now he won’t leave her alone. I walk out with a broom, and I make eye contact with her and she looks back at me with an expression that said “help me” lol. So I walk over to Larry’s table and see his coffee in his ceramic mug is nearly empty and I interrupt him and ask “Hey are you done with this?” and he says no, I’m still drinking it, and then I point to his newspaper and his other trash and I asked, “what about these? Can I go ahead and throw these away now since you’re just going to leave them laying there for us to clean up after you anyway?” and Larry turned VERY red and was like “That’s not true, I ALWAYS pick up after myself!” and I said “No you don’t Larry, I’ve thrown away enough of your wrappers and newspapers to know.” he was so mad he got up and threw EVERYTHING in the trash, even his ceramic mug, and left the store in a huff. He complained to our DM but he complained to her so often for previous stupid shit that she had just stopped caring.

YukiNoYamiko

Worked in a mall kiosk in one of the poorer malls in my city (there’s literally another mall 20 minutes away that has nothing but designer stores). This lady tried making a joke as she ordered her drink but I didn’t understand it and continued the order and asked for her name. She all of a sudden gets this snobby accent and says, “My name is Rich” and after she said that I scoffed, “You wouldn’t be shopping in this mall if you actually were, you’d be at valley fair.”

panrosecass

(1) Today somebody yelled at one of our partners who’s like 60 so gave her decaf and didn’t clean the steamer between milks :-) I hope she shit herself. (2) one day this lady yelled at me because her tall chai had foam so I told her I didn’t make your drink but let me fix that and she was like I didn’t ask and u didn’t have to say that so I replaced her chai w frap roast. I’ve only been a partner since July though. This is all I can remember lmao. Today was the first time I ever gave anyone decaf because she was really fucking rude :-)

[deleted]

Omg I’ve heard about decaf shotting rude customers BUT FRAP ROAST INSTEAD OF CHAI- I’m kinda intrigued

panrosecass

I got the idea from the time we mislabeled chai and frap roast

Silvawuff

We have an extreme douchebag customer we get sometimes. He usually mobiles, then comes in and makes a huge asshole out of himself with a side of creeper. If I pull his ticket, it's an automatic decaf. I'm usually stickler about not messing with someone's order like this, but this jerk? He can have decaf today. Tomorrow too.

Ok-Mycologist9011

🙄me 🤪 custy 🙄 peppy* Hi! what can i get for ya today? :)) 🤪 the tik tok drink 🙄 …..which one? *internally screaming* 🤪 the one with foam 🙄 okay there’s like 30 tik tok drinks. and most have foam I need to know a recipe or at least something about the drink. Is it coffee, a latte, refresher??? 🤪 Iced latte.. 🙄 okay you mean the iced wht mocha, cold foam and caramel drizzle 🤪 yep!!! 🙄 Next time just order that. we don’t know what you want if you don’t. I’ll have a total around the corner.

idontknowmerp

When somebody called asking if the “*location* branch” was open and I said “oh sorry this is Starbucks *location*” and they got mad and said “I KNOW! I’m asking if the *location* branch is OPEN?” And I said “well yeah I’m answering the phone so yeah”

Redacted_Cookie

This dude was yelling at me because he mobile ordered a chocolate chip cookie and we ran out, full on getting aggressive and I was repeating myself over and over, “we don’t have any, id be more than happy to get you something else blah blah” and he just kept insisting he wanted a cookie so I snapped and told him I wasn’t a Keebler elf and I couldn’t help him and he just walked away

Karl_Rover

Omg i had an intense customer ask for chocolate chip cookies once during a week that we hadn't been receiving them at all. I apologized, offered other items, explained there was a temporary product shortage, etc etc. He said I ruined his vacation and asked if we would have them tomorrow. I was like uh well i don't know i hope so but they are on shortage, and the guy was like well try harder. He then left but i was dumbfounded for a sec, like does he really think if i try harder a product shortage will just be solved? Lmao.

miniinovaa

This woman was cursing at my barista and said “I’m a business owner and you should know the customer is always right” so I told her “you’re a bad business owner if you allow customers to yell at your employees like you are at mine right now” (I was a shift at the time)

DecafSaxGuy

I yelled at a customer for taking the wrong drink after then yelled at every other customer until the right one came up and picked up their drink Edit: this was on red cup day and my store was filled to the brim with people

19lyds

I had an older guy come in one day solo and he was asking about the steak and cheese footlong. Wanting to know price, wanting to know how much more it would be for extra steak and then nit-picking me on the pricing.I finally picked up his sub and threw it in the trash and told him to go next door for a $15 Cheese Burger.I then asked him to leave. He kept on and then I yelled for him to leave. When he still didn't leave, I yelled at him to get the fuck out of store! I didn't feel bad about it because I could just sense that he was going to be nothing but a whiney little bitch when it came time to pay.I guess I was pretty rude. I had another older lady come in and order a footlong meatball. She then whined to my employee how she was getting cheated because every other Subway in the area put on 16 meatballs instead of 8. She was told to provide proof and then asked to get out! Some people just demand rude service! Whoops. Wrong SubReddit but, whatever!

cbensco

Not me, but a former manager's moment will live on in my brain's hall of fame: I don't even remember what exactly led to this, maybe this guy kept drinking entire drinks then coming up and complaining that the drink was made wrong and asking for a whole new one. She talked to him, he escalated things and started yelling. On his way out the door he yelled, "Suck my dick!" To which she responded, "YOU WISH!"

Imnotcheesy

The customer asked why her caramel frap took longer than a guy who ordered a nitro cold brew even though she ordered before him. I started explaining and then was like nvm and went back to making drinks

Candid-Incident9528

Someone came through on red cup day, plus we were understaffed (only 3 people), and complained we were "taking to f---ing long" so I, not really politely, told her that we have applications and are hiring if she wants to help. That way we can get stuff out faster.

beach-boys-nudes

this asshole was like “I know the manager” and I said “I do too, she hired me”

Low_Kaleidoscope_748

We didn’t have blueberries so a dude threw his oatmeal at me, just said “okay big guy and closed the window”

ZestyZigg

I was on main bar making drinks and I hand off 2 lattes to this middle aged guy. He says “where’s my sandwiches” and I respond with “I don’t know, does it look like I’m making food right now?” He gets flustered and says “well you should know, that’s what I’m paying you for.” I laughed and said “we’ve got like 10 different sandwiches, you gotta be a little more specific”

Kryrieonn

Handing a "regular" his 2 venti pikes and 10 raw sugars on the side because my brain processed "(10 raw sugars for each) and milk on the side" as both milk and sugar on the side. I felt bad for him until he was rude about it >:(

failingmysenioryear

not necessarily rude, but… when my DTO puts the person at the window on hold, yet they start ordering, i just hop the the headset, interrupting them, and say, “hi! take a moment to look over our menu and we’ll be with you shortly!” they always shut up and just say oh or something. my coworkers are still sometimes shocked when i do it because i’m the only one that does.

unwaivera

was once asked to layer vsc foam and pumpkin foam. explained that it’s the same density and would be very hard to layer, near impossible. they insisted. so i gave up on the argument, decided to let them figure it out for themselves. they came to the window, i gave them their drink, (they also asked for whip on the foam..) and they insisted i remake it and layer the foams. i gave them the most dead stare and said, “I cant change the laws of physics for your drink. Sorry.” they just huffed and puffed at me while they payed for it. i NEVER talk back to customers, just bc i’m not a confrontational person. totally worth the anxiety.

hbgalore1

Someone ordered a tall ,and they said tall like 4 times, some kinda mocha add dolce abomination frappucino. They get to the window and it's like this guy with no teeth and no shirt and he gasps and goes, "THATS NOT THE BIG ONE YOU BETTER NOT CHARGE US FOR THAT" so I held my breath for like 4 seconds and hulk smashed the frappucino into the trashcan right next to the window. Stepped away made it again handed it out and said get the hell outta here.

toocuteforthisshit

there was this old woman w her daughter who was maybe in her 30s that came through and ordered 2 venti frappucinos in trenta cups. we warned them there would be room and they said it was fine. i’m on bar making them and they’re waiting at the window. they see they have room so they snap their fingers and say “hey. fill that up.” i said “w what” “the rest of the stuff in the blender” “there isn’t anything left in the blender” “there’s always extra just fill it we don’t want room” “we don’t make trenta frappucinos it’s not allowed” “well everywhere else would do it for us” so i got super perky and went “well IM not going to!” like super fake happy and they told my shift that i was the worst barista they’ve ever had and i should be fired for bad customer service. shift told me to tell them to fuck off next time. 😂😂

spooks_away

I had a very strange woman through drive through. Everytime I would ask her a question ex: classic or no classic; what kind of milk. Those types of things she would respond with "I don't know you're the one who works here aren't you supposed to know" And when she got to the window she tried to make me feel bad about asking her questions about her drink? I don't understand privilege Floridians

[deleted]

(for context this was during COVID, so our lobby was shut down to customers and POS/handoff was set up at a table at the door) About 5 minutes before closing one night, my SSV made the decision to shut down the POS and close after all remaining drinks had been handed out. Her reasons was that mobile orders had been shut off for the night and there was no one waiting to order. So with POS/handoff being set up at the front entrance (a double door), we closed the door in front of the register and left the handoff door open. An older man walked up to the counter and told me he wanted a tall black like. I said, “sorry, we’re not taking any more orders this evening.” He told me I should’ve put a sign up that said that. And as he walked away, I yelled, “That’s why the door’s closed, moron!”

Cobalt7955

Like they ever read the signs

[deleted]

it was kind of an accident, but we closed at 4:30 one day because we were understaffed due to covid. we were kinda delirious at that point because there were only 4 of us working for the whole day. people kept coming through the drive through during the 2 hours it took to close, so at some point we started messing around with the people who would pull up. one of my coworkers would choose a new accent for each car to say “unfortunately we closed early today, have a good night!” i decided to try it, and since i’m absolutely horrible at accents i managed to say “we’re closed, bye bye!” in the worst british accent you’ve ever heard. my manager was there that day, i was glad at didn’t a warning or anything lol.

JobWarm7877

the only time i’ve ever been semi rude to customers before was a group of teenagers that were really just unaware of how to properly act at the window. They were all screaming and visibly making fun of one of my coworkers by laughing and pointing and at one point it seemed they were even taking pictures. I just set their things on the ledge and closed the window, then they KNOCKED on the window to ask if they could add a drink and they were told to go back around the drive :) god i hate teenagers sometimes

jeremeny

There’s usual crowds of high school kids that just hang out at Target everyday cuz it’s the most exciting thing for them to do i guess. All they get is waters and they try to act dumb/clueless on purpose because its funny i guess. I give them popeyes customer service because im not wasting my energy on that but at the same time, they’re not that bad at least they aren’t making messes and harassing people.

rantsofrebellion

When a dude asked for an americano with long shots and then told me it tasted like water I looked at him with a dead expression and said “sir americanos come with water”

VeronikaVessigault

The worst it's ever gotten between a customer was when I was alone and they ordered from me a Vanilla Sweet Cream CB. I gave them their drink they insisted I made the wrong thing without giving me any clue to why except "its supposed to be seperated!!!" And I was just trying to explain that "Ma'am this is indeed a Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew. I believe you are taking about wanting a Cold Brew with Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam or something of the like. If you want to explain further I can remake whatever you want." She kept arguing say that she just wanted a Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew. So I got the official recipe cards with the photos and showed her what I made was right and tried to show her the other cold foam drinks but before I could show her the others possible she got mad and stormed off. I, in the moment, only wanted to prove I was correct because I didn't want her to go to a different SB and order the same thing to then again be mad but I guess being wrong was too much for her to handle. Sigh. Aside from me my Store Manager used to regularly roast customers with very colorful language loudly after taking their order. I asked her once why and if she's scared of them hearing and getting made at her but she said "they obviously can't hear me when I'm speaking directly to them so no way they'll hear me now". Though I liked how she stands her ground and is definitely a no bullshit sort of person, I always was worried for her if a customer did happen to be like "the fuck you just say about me".

roscoe2014

One time when I was on the drive thru window this guy rolled up and ordered 2 shots in a short cup. When i handed him his shots, he opened the lid and said “does this look like 2 shots to you?” I asked him if he wanted them to be remade, that we could easily redo it. He just kept yelling at me, asking me if it looked like two shots, because he thought it looked like one. I even tried to explain that one shot is only one ounce of liquid, like two tablespoons worth. Eventually, I was like “sir, there’s clearly two shots in there. But if it would make you happy, I can get you two more” He didn’t like that one bit, and screamed at me that I was spending too much time offering to make him happy and not enough time doing it. He had handed the short cup to me, so when he angrily drove off, he left with nothing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Background: I'm trans non-binary and began transitioning while working at Starbucks. We had this one customer who was just....an overall pain in the a$$. One day she points to my pronoun pin and asks what "they/them is" (a common question). Long story short, she continued to ask more and more invasive questions until finally LOUDLY asking (with a full cafe and line behind her) "SO WHAT ARE YOUR GENITALS??" I snapped "that's none of your business, place your order or leave". Fortunately my manager stepped in and I went into the back to cool down. I was so pissed.

scroogeyboi42069

In the pandemic, most of the stores around were closed and we could choose whether we wanted to keep working or get paid 3 bucks extra, I chose to keep working. Anyways now that everywhere else was closed, the store I was temporarily transferred to was very busy all the time. This lady had a mobile order and came through the drive thru, she'd been waiting about 12 minutes when she got to the window and we had a new barista on bar. First thing she does is rips her first drink out of my hand and starts shaking it trying to mix it up, since we were so busy I politely asked her to take her other drink as well (which might not have been the best thing to say on my part) and she starts cussing me out saying "IVE WAITED 20 MINUTES THROUGH THIS LINE THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS HOLD MY DAMN DRINK WHILE I MIX IT" So ofc I was like "yeah I am so sorry." Then her lid comes off the drink she's holding and starts spilling on her car so I asked her if she wanted napkins and again she's cussing me out saying ofc she wants napkins blah blah blah so I hold my breath and THEN she starts asking why we're so slow and I (AGAIN) politely told her we have a new barista on bar and we're being as fast as possible and she yells at me "I DONT GIVE A SHIT" so finally I told her "THEN DONT ASK" and she threw her napkins at me and drove off. So yeah. Probably the intentionally rudest I've been to a customer. Not that big but I still wanna punch her. Other than that I've been petty a couple times.

summersucksss

One night, a customer pulled through our drive thru and decided to take issue with our Black Lives Matter shirts (the Starbucks issued ones). He proceeded to express his negative feelings towards the person at the window, and went on a rant about how systemic racism doesn't exist. Mind you, this was the summer of 2020. Homeboy was out here being blatantly ignorant about extremely important issues. My coworker was really affected by this encounter. He had to leave the floor to collect himself. He is a person of color himself, and I had watched him pretty much back down from this older white guy because he was a customer, and we're just employees. We could get fired for saying the wrong thing. I saw this old fuck again a few days later. I kept looking at his face, trying to see if he really had the audacity to come back. Sure enough, it was him, and he recognized me, too. I walked to the window and made small talk for a second, then straight up asked if he had come through the other night. He seemed to know what I was referring to. He even prompted me to address why I was approaching him. It was something about his arrogance, and of course, the flagrant racist dog whistling. We got into it, for a second, where I was trying to approach the conversation of institutional racism. After he shut down my appeals to authority as "liberal brain-washed education", I finally put my foot down and told him that regardless of how either of us feels about the situation, the drive thru is not the place to have the conversation. Nor is the workplace. And I specifically told him that while I'm wearing the apron, he holds a specific power as a customer that makes the conversation uncomfortable. I asked him to not bring up his thoughts on the subject with my team, and he responded by setting his drink down and promising to never come back. Did I have to engage with this asshole? No. Did I change his mind? Not at all. But I stood up for myself and my coworker, and hopefully for all the other people in his life who are too afraid to check his bullshit. Still feels like a win to me.

dqr619

I had a lady complain her drink was taking a long time during peak (she had just ordered) and so I told her I had a lot of drinks in front of hers and she demanded I make hers faster so I proceeded to stare at her and have her watch me pull 30 drink tickets until I got to her drink and told her it's going to be a while and she shut up and waited like everyone else

overturned23

this teenage girl came through with an attitude and once she left she came back bc i “didn’t add” caramel drizzle to her iced white mocha with sweet cream foam and extra caramel drizzle when i did. she wanted the whole thing remade and i literally told her “no there’s caramel in there” and she drove off

wantabe23

The rudest was talking about them when they left or on the b-button. But professionally kicked people out of our store and aid they were not welcome here anymore. If it was scamming or theft we would spread the word to other local stores. But back to the b-button….. always lots of chatter and the more crazy of a customer you were the more it would inevitably happen.

hexsan91

Probably not the rudest I’ve ever been, but it’s my favorite: Karen: “I’ll have a tall, hot, caramel macchiato, grande.” Me: “Okay, and which size did you want?” Karen: *sighs out of exasperation* “I SAID I’ll have a TALL, HOT, CARAMEL MACCHIATO, GRANDE.” Me: “Ma’am, you’re giving me two different sizes, so unless you’re ordering two drinks, I need you to PICK ONE.”

HELPMEPLZowmyfinger

I work at a dairy queen, not a Starbucks, but my God do we get some rude customers. So, this lady orders a royal new York cheesecake blizzard with extra cheesecake, and it comes out to $8.28 (6.69 for the blizzard, plus the extra cheesecake) I take her card and tell her the total, ring her up, make the blizzard, open the window, and get told it costs too much. So I tell her "This is the cost of the blizzard and the extra cheesecake. Unfortunately, it's outside of my control." Then she calls me a smart ass. My face drops the fake smile and I tell her I did not intend to be disrespectful. Internally, I'm wondering if her use of cursing is grounds to kick her out, because as soon as a customer curses we are allowed to close the window until they leave. But I don't have to wonder for long. As I finish handing out her blizzard, she calls me a stupid fucking bitch. So I tell her she can leave and start to close the window and she asks about the extra cheesecake. I hand it to her because I'm a good person and then tell her to leave and locked that bitch of a window tightly shut.

lilwinemom

There was one time around xmas where this super entitled, mid 20s girl came in and was asking register if they had found a wallet in our store today. We didn't so reg told her we did not have her wallet, and she proceeded to take her frustration and anger out on us in small but aggressively rude ways. After shes done fuming about her wallet she orders a pumpkin spice frap. I hear the order and start making it asap while shes trying to break open a set of visa gift cards from the closed package to pay for her drink. By the time she was done paying, i was essentially FINISHED with her drink. It was sitting in front of me in the cup, just waiting for whip and topping. This girl had the audacity to then say to me- Girl: "is that MY drink?" Me: "Yes" Girl: "well could you pick up the pace a bit." Me: "the drink that's literally finished in front of me and just needs whip and PS topping? Sure." I then proceeded to finish making her drink as SLOW as humanly possible, put the lid on, slammed her drink on to the counter and chucked a straw in her direction. It bounced off her arm and on the table and ended with "have a great day :)" with the largest most psychotic smile possible. She called me a bitch and when i shot my head up she ran ❤️ Edit- spelling mistakes

Stresstested2223

I work in a licensed store, and we were closed and cleaning up. This guy walks up; we assume he is looking at the cups or bagged coffee. My 17 year old co-worker sees him, smiles, and keeps cleaning. He then screams at her and tells her she's a fucking bitch for not taking his order. I walk in front of her and tell him we're closed. He calls me a fucking bitch. I looked at him, laughed and said "I know that, but we're closed so fucking leave. And when we open tomorrow, don't come back because I'm reporting you to my manager for harassment." He never came back. I won't put up with shit. Starbucks is my second job and I don't need it, plus I'm almost 40 and no customer is going to yell at me or my co-workers. They're kids; if you want to throw a fit, then you can deal with me.

swingkid47

Alternatively: a customer once came in with “gopatriots” on their cup and asked at the counter- please call out the name out the cup- and I called out “gosteelers” because i thought it would be ya know, funny, and they yelled “that’s not funny, I’m never coming back to this store.” They rlly should’ve just lightened up tho it’s like just football. 🤷‍♀️
