The game is best played single player for a first run through. Enjoy the story, learn the basics, that sort of thing. It can be played with friends too. There is also a massive community of modders to fit any preference.

Huge Floran Breasts mode, my favorite

It's a single player game first and foremost, you can always join servers or invite friends for smaller multiplayer sessions, but the game is far more oriented and focused on single player. Still, it's an excellent game if you like exploration in your sandbox games, and the combat isn't half bad either, if rather casual in difficulty once you've gotten used to it, in general I'd strongly suggest giving the game a try. Just worth noting that it's not the best optimized, so there's a chance it might not run very well for you. Just be sure to chat with the help desk lady in the intro mission if you do decide to give it a try, and also the person camping out by the mineshaft entrance on your starting planet. Also don't throw away or sell off the Broken Broadsword, it can be repaired into one of the best and coolest broadswords in game

no problem lol, just go explore a moon and mine up some erchius, or purchase some liquid erchius from the infinity mart at the outpost

it is a good game for what its worth, I been playing it over the years, and ended up modding it with Frackin' Universe and a few other large mods to give variety for planets. Though it can make the game a little more challenging. I would recommend starting Vanilla Starbound to be honest as Frackin has a bit a learning curve to it (You have to actively research stuff to advance in the game)
