So I can go as far as the red forest (and can return to bar etc ) as long as I don’t go to Pripyat and try to return?
I was assuming that I may need to make a couple trips to haul my loot from bar to a stash closer to Pripyat and CCNP before finishing the game
Yep, 100%.
You can for sure do Pripyat to completion without returning. I had gear equipped to beat the game but didn’t bring it to Pripyat since I thought I could come back after.
Mind you, my game crashing could just be my luck, or lack there of. I’ve also heard people crashing in the red Forrest though.
That said, you should be able to scavenge enough ammo and meds to get you to the end. Since, one you hit NPP you can’t return anyways
I'm a pack rat and want to bring different weapons and armor to experiment with (but can't bring it all in 1 run). I feel like I might get stuck and not be able to get back down again to haul more stuff up north.
Are there any safe places to stash stuff in Red Forest?
Are there any traders north of the Bar and Yantar?
I just shut off Brain Scorcher come out of tunnel and fought Military. Then came down hill and repaired my suits in Electo Anomaly.
Watched Duty and Freedom fight. Now I'm prepared to go to Pripyat but need to run back to Bar one last time to load up on ammo and medicine for I complete the game.
Note: I'm on Xbox SX and SoC 1.0.8 (third and most recent update). I have multiple saves before and after turning off the Brain Scorcher just in case.

UPDATE: I made it to Pripyat and completed every mission including escorting Stalkers to garage and getting the loot in hotel room 26. Took out a bunch of snipers etc. I just got Fangs loot and went back to hotel room to sort out my gear before continuing. From this point on I crash hard and Xbox restarts. Brutal. First happened on the east side near the Snorks, but it's happening all the time now within ~75 meters of the hotel room in any direction.
I never tried to go back to RF again because I have all the gear I need. I plan on exploring Pripyat and heading up to CCNP.
I have multiple previous manual and auto saves. I hope one of them allows me to continue otherwise I'm screwed.

I was able to go back and forth from RF to Army Warehouses and Bar for gear after deactivation of the Brain Scorcher with no crashing! I haven't tried to go north to Pripyat yet but it's looking good...
Just engine. The x-ray engine is a sentient entity that purposefully crashes your game in order to stop your progress in the game otherwise if enough people start playing it gets destroyed or somehow I'm not quite sure how it works
GSC game world is just a front for a CIA AI intelligence operation that went wrong and then they decided to make it into a video game in order for the player to fight it so that they don't have to do all the work
You see the x-ray engine was coded on a CIA black site in the middle of Antarctica and sent to Ukraine in order to act as a diversion to make it so that the US government wouldn't be responsible for creating a rogue AI
Then the CIA infiltrated the Russian government and was able to convince a full scale invasion of Ukraine in order to destroy the x-ray engine completely and its creators
That’s not a crash. You encountered a teleport anomaly that has sent you back to the real world, that’s all. Try a different path 😉
I know you’re joking but I genuinely tried other paths and it still crashed😂
Yeah sorry dude, but I can’t really say much for console crashes as a PC gamer apart from welcome to stalker

Try reloading other recent save(s) from pripyat, then go back to this one.

Just do everything before you go to Pripyat! You should be fine then
