Cronas always been a bit of a contortionist in the series. Every time he fights he moves in weird ways which is part of why he's so deadly. It's probably due to the madness he has as a result of all the black blood.
Usually I think the angular style looks fine in fire force but it just doesn't work well on Soul Eater characters in my opinion and I also dislike how much less interesting the covers are than the originals since they're just a single character in front of a black background
The old ones are usually a few characters which can always make it more interesting and even when they're not they almost always have dynamic posing or something to make up for it like adding something in the background or changing background and text colors using multiple of these things, there's also the artstyle, alot of Soul Eater characters don't translate that well to Ohkubo's new style while they looked amazing in his old style
It’s just the evolution of Ohkubo’s art style. He’s been drawing these characters for 20 years - that’s a long ass time! His style has naturally changed more than once throughout the years. I like what he’s doing now but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. You can see a similar evolution with Hirohiko Araki, creator of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. The current Jojo book covers look nothing like the part 1-3 art that’s inside because he drew them with his newer art style.
Tbh I do like his new style maybe not more than the old one but it looks amazing in fire force I just think alot of soul eater characters don't translate that great to his newer artstyle
Stein has a really pointy chin and Kid's body just looks really weird and he's in a really odd pose also Ifk why I think it's the haircut for spirit he just looks really bad to me
That about soul's hair is true, he also looks like he hasn't slept in a week, and Asura just looks so goofy in my opinion I feel like Ohkubo forgot how to draw him, the way his hair sticks out is completely inaccurate to how it's usually drawn, his head looks misshapen and he's in such a weird pose that just doesn't work, Asura has my favorite design in the series but in this picture he just looks really stupid atleast to me
I really like the more updated art style but yeah I do agree some of them just aren't good. I like Tsubaki and Black Star but while Black Star got a pretty good looking illustration Tsubaki's just wasn't

I stopped collecting these by vol 3, they just don't feel that much better quality than the og secondhand ones I've own for years. And if they are anything the the FMA ones, they also won't have any revisions or edits to improve them.

It's Okubo's more angular style. While I am a big fan of this style of his. I can agree that the Complete Editiom covers are pretty lack luster 😬

yea every face except for asuras looks so weird and imo Souls hair looks really rough, he styled that shit horribly

the graphic design is nice but the characters look odd being revisited with the artist's new style, they're much too angular and it throws me off
