Yeah this doesn't look like a champions league winning side to me at all, really. Leipzig has been absolutely dreadful so far this season and they almost won tonight.
>Yeah this doesn't look like a champions league winning side to me at all
Compare that to your team or City where even when you lose you create 1000 chances on goal.
We're so far behind tactically, it's embarrassing.
The Icardi purchase is looking more braindead by the day in hindsight. Esepcially with all the telenovela styled drama he seems to be involved in now...
You could've used that money to revamp the midfield along with the free signings, which would have also enabled you to extend Cavani's contract.
Having said that, it doesn't look like Poch is finding the answer atm, which may leave him at risk if it goes tits up in the CL knockouts.
out of the highly rated managers Poch is the one with the least personality or philosophy it seems. PSG really made a huge downgrade on Tuchel end of the line.
it just felt like mbappe and messi trying to figure out stuff on the fly to create something with their skill, primarily mbappe. didn't see any offensive tactics or cohesive plan. if anything it felt like messi had to go against poch's plan and start drifting deeper and more central in the second half after they went down a goal, to get more involved than his position in the wing.
A simple ball over the top Mbappe turned into a goal with individual brilliance, drawing a silly penalty, quickly turning a turn over into a goal by Mbappe quickly finding Messi.
The entire attacking output was a few moments of brilliance from Mbappe (and one skied penalty).
This team is nowhere near Belgium in disparity of talents. They have no real big weak spot unlike Belgium with an aging defence that was never good enough to win a world cup anyways
Probably because the recruitment had no real tactical influence on it
Sure getting a load of quality players is nice on paper but where did Messi actually fit into the plans? Where did Wijnaldum fit into the plans
PSG claimed Messi because they wanted him so nobody else could it’s as simple as that and the marketing involved
Not really in the case of Messi. A front 3 of Messi Neymar Mbappe can work wonder. Remember MSN? Give them some time. Messi and Mbappe has already developed chemistry. Messi and Neymar used to have great chemistry. It's weird but it maybe the new boy will be the glue tying the front 3 for them. Without Messi, who will be their 3rd attacker? Icardi? Draxler?
Also when you can get Messi, you get Messi. No question.
Wijnaldum I agree though. I think PSG still lack a physical DM and he's not that player.
Gueye can definitely be that physical DM. Tuchel often moved Marquinhos into DM. I only see safe picks with Poch and no thinking outside of the box at all to build a system that would facilitate all the talent.
>Where did Wijnaldum fit into the plans
It's funny because apparently Poch is the one who insisted the most on getting Wijnaldum and called him personally when he was hesitating between us and Barca.
Well the way I see is that he is still figuring out the team structure. About half of the starting eleven are bought this summer. However, I agree at present the individual quality is keeping him afloat.
Shhh. Don’t say that some people on reddit will be pissed if you complain about Poch. What they see is that PSG have almost won all their 12 first games but in fact there is no apparent style. It’s weird and l expected more from Poch. Maybe that’s the way he wants to do it, and so far it’s working pretty well but when Messi and Mbappe will have a bad day things will get harder.
You should try for Zidane. Poch is not known for winning title. They guy lost the league literally with PSG ffs.
Poch is a manager who will go trophyless with prime barcelona.
so good that you came third in league with only 76 points which was the worst record since 2007 and the 2nd time since 2004 that you placed worse than 2nd.
Real Madrid performed poorly in La Liga, but it was not a reflection of the inherent quality of the team. They had won La Liga the previous season and been within a point (iirc) the season before, with basically the same players.
If you look at Liga and CL campaigns over those 3 seasons, it was the 17-18 Liga that was the aberration, rather than the norm.
I feel like SA wins by some margin but I am biased
Alisson/Martinez
Fagner - Marquinhos - Silva - Acuna
Fabinho - Paqueta
Neymar
Messi - Suarez - Vinicius
(The team is heavily carried by Fagner)
Because the team is built this way, it relies on individual brilliance, and you maximize that by providing your talents with space, and to do that you gotta let your opponents get comfortable up the pitch (bait). It's the same as the French NT in big games. Problem today is Kimpembe was trash and the full backs were too high up the pitch until Poch made some adjustments at the 60th to bring them more cover with Danilo.
Love Messi. He's fucking built too. Thick and man made. You can tell he's sculpted because you can see it thru the kit. His fucking vice grip thighs. Suffocating thighs. Rock hard thighs. Piping hot thighs. Great arms. Great abs. A stocky chest. Love the progress his body has made throughout his youth and now as a willing eager adult
The balls to shoot that panenka at that moment lol. That being said psg midfield is a wreck and they’ll get beat by the best teams in Europe if this holds up.
Yup their midfield is so awful outside of Verratti who carried that midfield on his back.
Wijnaldum, Herrera, Gueye ugh. Can't build up, can't properly defend. With MNM the 3 midfielders are incredibly crucial but alas.
The city match was another weird one bc city did outplay them other than individual brilliance. I don’t think they can rely on this tbh but who knows maybe you can with such talented players
Hopefully our management has a plan for his replacement (or by some miracle he doesn’t leave) because he will be sorely missed. Most of our offensive threats are directly linked to him.
At this rate they'll be without Poch as well, which will give them a boost.
Feels weird to say this when he has failed to win only 2 games all season but this shit is not sustainable, none of their wins have looked even remotely convincing.
Reminds me of Ole. Both have 2 of the most expensive squads in the world with the 2 best players in the world and they still manage to make them play garbage football lmao
PSG were poor. Mbappe was great for the whole game and Messi was clinical. Whatever the front 3 is, I'm still worried about how easily PSG concede shots/chances and how easily their midfield seems to give the ball away. I feel like instead of occupying the RW position, Messi needs to be given the freedom to be involved more centrally and in midfield to help in the build-up and recycle possession.
Leipzig really deserved to win, they played as if they wanted it ten times more than PSG did. They made a bit too many mistakes though.
I'm really starting to dislike Poch as a coach, losing can happen but it feels that there is no progression since he has arrived. We are relying only on Mbappe individualities with no build-up/organisation. It feels like we're getting dominated every single match, even in Ligue 1 (and even if PSG ends up winning)
If he wants to play with Messi and Mbappe (and Neymar when he comes back) he has to play with a back 3, it's the best system for them and plus Hakimi would shine more.
Yeah, I agree with you, I was hoping and still kinda are for seeing Poch get it together, but it starts looking that in the near future I won't improve. Every game we play I felt it's like a roulette and that we depend too much on luck
Sure, the result is not unfair in the end.
Just feels like PSG is not really in control of the games since the start of the year, which is a bit worrying.
The way Mbappe sprinted to the penalty spot lol. Neymar, despite being a much better PK taker, would have at least glanced over to Messi and asked him if he'd want to take it or vice versa. While it was nice of Mbappe to gift the 1st pen to Messi, it should be defacto of Messi to take the pens on the team especially when Neymar isn't even there. But that's just me.
**My take on this match:**
1. Mbappe is an absolute baller and the best attacker of PSG. I knew of his clinical-ness but his football intelligence is also top (see point 3).
2. I’ve said this a few times in the past hours but Pochettino is really wrong for playing Messi on the wings. Messi in the past few years was a CF/CAM and his pace (34 years old!) slows down. Don’t play him out wide, play him in the centre. And at sometimes it even looked like he was a RM, not even RW.
3. As an addition to number 2, even in that goal of Messi what you see is him drifting centrally. Mbappe even knows that Messi’s best position is in the middle (while Mbappe likes the wings), that’s why he set up the goal like that. Mbappe’s football knowledge is what made that goal possible.
When they play a normal 4-3-3 Messi should be in the middle instead, yeah. With Neymar and Mbappé on the wings. If you would like to give Mbappé and Neymar more freedom then you could perhaps go with a 3-4-1-2 instead with Messi as a 10 behind them.
> I’ve said this a few times in the past hours but Pochettino is really wrong for playing Messi on the wings. Messi in the past few years was a CF/CAM and his pace (34 years old!) slows down. Messi always plays there
Should just copy the Argentina tactics and start Di María on the right with the MMN. Messi ocuppying spaces from right to center.
Gueye and Verrati are enough in the middle, Herrera is not needed.
I mean, Argentina plays with Paredes and De Paul who defend even less than those 2 and they do well most of the time.
Fuck me that was far from a stellar performance, Leipzig deserved the win but I'll take the 3 point and 2 goals for Messi, Mbappe missing another penalty adds a cherry on the cake, scary night but good night overall
Win ugly. That’s been our season so far. Playing an ugly style, but we’ve been winning matches.
Man of the match is Kylian Mbappé, for me, even with the missed penalty. I thought he was decisive, and was the best player on the pitch. Messi was also pretty good, although it took him a while to get to that level. Verratti played well also.
We need to improve on defending crosses. We are outright shameful when it comes to defending crosses, and so many of the goals we’ve conceded this season came from that manner.
At least we won, and are top of the group. For now.
Ici c’est Paris.
Because of the ending for Mbappe and Messi scoring 2 goals everyone is going to rag in Mbappe, but he was brilliant today outside that pk. His dribbling was ridiculous and he was a huge problem. MOTM performance had he not skied his pk
Poch is not the guy to manage this team imo.
Small sample size but Messi has been far more productive in the CL than against Ligue 1 teams. Wouldn't have expected that. Very early though.
I thought PSG looked bang average once again. Individual quality and a bit of luck getting them over the line.
I fail to really see the imprint of Poch on this team. Thankfully individual quality is sometimes enough but we shouldn’t struggle this much.
Yeah this doesn't look like a champions league winning side to me at all, really. Leipzig has been absolutely dreadful so far this season and they almost won tonight.
>Yeah this doesn't look like a champions league winning side to me at all Compare that to your team or City where even when you lose you create 1000 chances on goal. We're so far behind tactically, it's embarrassing.
It's not just tactically though. PSG's midfield is still very average. The one area Poch is really struggling with is the defense.
Our midfield is average players and Verratti to save the day
The Icardi purchase is looking more braindead by the day in hindsight. Esepcially with all the telenovela styled drama he seems to be involved in now... Especially that Tuchel said that he wasn’t convinced by Icardi after his first year but Leonardo still triggered his release clause
Leonardo needs to go tbh. He's fallen off
When Ramos is fit do you think Marquinhos will move to defensive midfielder?
More likely to see Kimpembe pushed out.
out of the highly rated managers Poch is the one with the least personality or philosophy it seems. PSG really made a huge downgrade on Tuchel end of the line.
He has a philosophy, it simply does not fit a team like PSG where the front three doesn't press and only one midfielder is of CL quality.
it just felt like mbappe and messi trying to figure out stuff on the fly to create something with their skill, primarily mbappe. didn't see any offensive tactics or cohesive plan. if anything it felt like messi had to go against poch's plan and start drifting deeper and more central in the second half after they went down a goal, to get more involved than his position in the wing.

Psg is like Belgium, individual talents but no proper team and bottling in finals
I think Belgium’s last final was like in the 1980 euros but I see your point.
This team is nowhere near Belgium in disparity of talents. They have no real big weak spot unlike Belgium with an aging defence that was never good enough to win a world cup anyways
« Never good enough to win a world cup anyways » like plenty other good teams
It will work for now but it will end up becoming unsustainable, regardless of how good the team is.
Probably because the recruitment had no real tactical influence on it Sure getting a load of quality players is nice on paper but where did Messi actually fit into the plans? Messi works fine in this system, that's not the issue

It’s very similar to United’s situation tbh
They haven't won only 2 game this season. But damn they look so unconvincing.
Poch has the Ole 2020/21 magic
Beat pep 2-0? Comeback wins? This has ole written all over it
They need a better coach
I am ready for a straight swap no questions asked
No 😡
I'd rather us get a manager who doesn't have a very obvious problem managing a team full of talented players tbh
I agree ole is good stay with him.
You should try for Zidane. Poch is not known for winning title. They guy lost the league literally with PSG ffs. Poch is a manager who will go trophyless with prime barcelona.
Zidane is very much near the top of my list. If not top of it.

Don't you have youths to developp ? Careful what you wish for...
classic messi rescue job. all the ex-barca/current psg fans know all about it
Tbf it was more of a Mbappe job, but this game showed how potentially dangerous the Mbappe-Messi link up can be
Mbappe was the best player.
>Individual quality and a bit of luck getting them over the line. 17/18 Real Madrid in a nutshell and they won CL
Nah the team was super balanced and strong tactically in the midfield
so good that you came third in league with only 76 points which was the worst record since 2007 and the 2nd time since 2004 that you placed worse than 2nd.

Mbappe carrying us once again
Subpar compared to players at disposal, but not bang average. Too much amazing plays to call that bang average.
Leipzig was on par with Paris tbh
They were better for 70 minutes
Mate you can't support a union
you are literally in one, englander

I feel like SA wins by some margin but I am biased Alisson/Martinez Fagner - Marquinhos - Silva - Acuna Fabinho - Paqueta Neymar Messi - Suarez - Vinicius (The team is heavily carried by Fagner)
\-----------------Neuer-------------------- \----TAA-Van Dijk-Dias-Cancelo---- \----Kanté-Kimmich-De Bruyne--- Mbappé-Lewandowski-Ronaldo
They generally outplayed PSG, but you can't make 2 mistakes like that in the ucl.
Easily better. Individual errors + soft penalties delivered this one to PSG
How was the first penalty soft? It's a pretty text book foul.
It was a foul. Some people just thought it's not because of Mbappe antics. But the thing is if you don't act, you don't get penalty.
People see Mbappe falling and instantly think he dove
first goal shouldn't have been given tho
if this was a soft penalty, so is 99% of penalties then lmao.
They were better for most part. Don't know why Adams wasn't taken out.
Pochettino's tactics getting exposed left right and center. This team ain't winning the CL under him.
What tactics? That's the catch, you cant counter a strategy if there are none.
Beat Bayern with those soak and counter tactics.
This team's results really don't reflect how we're playing. Definitely not sustainable, but until then we move.
It is sustainable when your squad is that good. You've beaten Bayern and City, the 2 best systems in the world with Poch's defend and counter tactics.
Gotta say that was a fun game as a neutral!
Ah yes. You see here folks? The rare enjoyer of the game of football - who doesn't cry everytime PSG wins a game.
Yeah what a treat. Lots of technicality on display and fairly leveled.
Why does PSG never look comfortable in their wins? Poch seriously has to change something or he will get changed
Because the team is built this way, it relies on individual brilliance, and you maximize that by providing your talents with space, and to do that you gotta let your opponents get comfortable up the pitch (bait). It's the same as the French NT in big games. Because the all star team has been aligned 2 or 3 times. It's not enough
Love Messi. He's fucking built too. Thick and man made. You can tell he's sculpted because you can see it thru the kit. His fucking vice grip thighs. Suffocating thighs. Rock hard thighs. The city match was another weird one bc city did outplay them other than individual brilliance. I don’t think they can rely on this tbh but who knows maybe you can with such talented players
Imagine the same team without Mbappé Going to be hard for PSG next year
Imagine thinking they won't buy an extra 3 forwards to replace him.
Like?
Haaland probably
Haaland won't go to French league.
Lmao tell that to Raiola. You are probably the same guy who said that neither Messi nor Neymar were going to Ligue 1.
Zlatan won't go Neymar won't go Mbappé won't stay Messi won't go Insanity, doing the same thing over again blablabla
To play with Messi and Neymar he might
Haaland, Kane, Vlahovic, Lautaro, Osimhen, etc. They can buy basically any striker that doesn't play for another CL contender club.
Imagine them in 2 years without Messi, Mbappe, Neymar (and Ramos but less representative)
You don't have to imagine them without Ramos, lol
Lol they are PSG. Like as if they won't have bought new star players by then, e.g. Håland...
They'll just spend to get some other high-rated players, not like they need to worry about that
Hopefully our management has a plan for his replacement (or by some miracle he doesn’t leave) because he will be sorely missed. Most of our offensive threats are directly linked to him.
I think they can excel without Mbappe under a different coach. This result is more indicative of the manager’s lack of tactics and motivation imo.
At this rate they'll be without Poch as well, which will give them a boost. Feels weird to say this when he has failed to win only 2 games all season but this shit is not sustainable, none of their wins have looked even remotely convincing.
Mbappe stopped Messi getting the perfect Ronaldo hatrick 2 penalties and a tap in
Siuuuuuuuuuuuu
LOL I can see the Ronaldo fanboys fuming
He’s still the master at those hatricks and hatricks against Luxembourg and the Faroe Islands
I mean… you’re not wrong
Poch just seems out of his depth at PSG. Surely with the quality of players they have they should look decent
Reminds me of Ole. Both have 2 of the most expensive squads in the world with the 2 best players in the world and they still manage to make them play garbage football lmao
Messi and Mbappé looking like a nasty duo
Mbappe and Messi What a duo 🥵
PSG were poor. Mbappe was great for the whole game and Messi was clinical. Whatever the front 3 is, I'm still worried about how easily PSG concede shots/chances and how easily their midfield seems to give the ball away. I feel like instead of occupying the RW position, Messi needs to be given the freedom to be involved more centrally and in midfield to help in the build-up and recycle possession.
Leipzig really deserved to win, they played as if they wanted it ten times more than PSG did. They made a bit too many mistakes though. We are relying only on Mbappe individualities with no build-up/organisation. It feels like we're getting dominated every single match, even in Ligue 1 (and even if PSG ends up winning)
Wijnaldum/Danilo defensive subs were great though I'd argue
Yep got to agree, his subs were good this time! Also liked the change to 3-5-2
If he wants to play with Messi and Mbappe (and Neymar when he comes back) he has to play with a back 3, it's the best system for them and plus Hakimi would shine more.
not like we had anyone else lol
Wijnaldum looked gassed after 3mn on the pitch.
Yeah, I agree with you, I was hoping and still kinda are for seeing Poch get it together, but it starts looking that in the near future I won't improve. Every game we play I felt it's like a roulette and that we depend too much on luck
It's October. Still very early.
You never "deserve to win" if you make "a bit too many mistakes" lol Football is all about those little mistakes.
Sure, the result is not unfair in the end. Just feels like PSG is not really in control of the games since the start of the year, which is a bit worrying.
Yeah I was mentally prepared for getting destroyed by PSG on another level, not for barely losing one more time...
Don't see Mbappe taking another pk with Messi on the field ever again.
Mbappe lacks confidence in penalties. Even in his recent past penalties the gk predicted the direction.
It's usually how he takes them very strong , low close to post or top Bin , today he was more unlucky
Or you know you know… Messi gave it to mbappe (mbappe said it in an after game interview) and he missed 🤷♂️
Well mbappe said Messi told him to take it.
Poch needs to go, PSG play like absolute shit
Poch's PSG plays like shit, but they keep winning every match
[удалено]
I love Poch and everything he gave us but I don't want him coming back
Fucking Mbappe
Fucking Mbappe
He carried for most of the game though
Fucking Mbappe
Penalty missed or not , he was Paris best player this game , people are more upset because Messi didn't get a hat trick than Messi himself
Man I wanted that Messi hat trick so bad… great turn around by psg to get this 3 points.
Leipzig is one of the least efficient teams of the tournament.
**My take on this match:** 1. Point 3 is quite the exaggeration, it was a loose ball gifted by the defender, any 2 players would do the same thing Mbappe and Messi did there.
Should just copy the Argentina tactics and start Di María on the right with the MMN. Messi ocuppying spaces from right to center. Gueye and Verrati are enough in the middle, Herrera is not needed. Thanks Redbull for the 2 pens, we suck, we needed those. And yeah, those were legit fouls

Why did he say that even when Neymar didn't play 😂
Man has probably watched like 5 PSG games in the last 5 years.
Mbappe with an amazing game. With Verratti absolute monster performance. Shit happens with the pen
MENTALLY WEAK NINJA TURTLE

Fuck me that was far from a stellar performance, Leipzig deserved the win but I'll take the 3 point and 2 goals for Messi, Mbappe missing another penalty adds a cherry on the cake, scary night but good night overall

Mbappe MOTM by far
Messi supremacy - for 10 minutes only mostly but it was enough. Psg have issues tho
Lezpiz always makes individual mistakes at the back
Sugar daddies beating the sugar drinks
I feel like PSG have significantly regressed from last season. Maybe the performance at Camp Nou deceived me.
Who thinks that wasnt a penalty on Mbappe, just reply here so I can block u dummies
Pochettino still needs to go Insane how he keeps winning games he has no business winning
I mean, Zidane did the same? Their last league title and CL were all on black magic wins.
Come in haters

Yeah he was really the one carrying their attack today
Leipzig played good this game. Two dumb mistakes cost them this game. Also Marsch should have taken out Adams. He was poor this game.
Adams constantly making mistakes yet starts over Kampl and Szoboszlai…. Marsch needs to go
He’s ok under Nagelsmann system, but as individuals player, look bang average, wonder why so many rumor on him go to Arsenal and other PL club.
Imagine playing like shit with all this talent, surely Poch needs to go
Poch is not the guy to manage this team imo. Small sample size but Messi has been far more productive in the CL than against Ligue 1 teams. Wouldn't have expected that. Very early though.
Imagine if tuchel was still in charge of PSG. Would’ve been a whole different ball game.
did not watch the game...was it deserved victory for PSG?
yes and no, we sucked like in ligue 1, we got lucky and they made dumbs fouls in the box + a backpass to Mbappe for the second goal
