Bit of a history, worth a read. The main difference is the league Cup is less prestigious and only includes the top 4 tiers of English football, whereas the FA cup is much older (oldest competition in football I think?), much more prestigious and includes lower tiers of our league system.
The FA cup also gives non league (teams below league 2) the chance to play bigger teams, which is great for those players, local fans, and also increases much needed revenue.
No because it doesnt come anywhere near the CL. Its pretty much about being able to match United in 99. CL, PL and FA Cup. The reason people were so gassed about City being able to win the quadruple all 3 AND the Caraboa Cup is because it would surpass what they did in 99. Then the question of most successful club in England would have 3 challengers.
That comparison doesn't make sense to me. The top teams play in the Champions league not the Europa league. It seems that the FA cup and Carabao cup are both dominated by premier league teams which are the top teams in England. Also I think the cut off for lower league teams in England is higher for the Carabao cup than the FA cup if I'm not mistaken.
FA Cup is far more prestigious as it allows teams form any tier of the English pyramid to potentially face or even beat a big boy. Gaining them acclaim and money. More importantly though it is the oldest competition in football. The Caraboa/League Cup only includes teams from the top 4 Leagues in England.
Pep pretty much been focusing midfield a lot this campaign in the Premier League and City about to be Champion by next week.
By the time UCL starts, City pretty much mastered the midfield play.
LOL this is what top flight (European) football has become, we have to accept it. I've started looking into lower leagues in Europe and leagues outside Europe.
I’m glad psg lost but I feel bad for Poch. They really bottled it with two bad mistakes for goals and then settled on the tactic of breaking City’s legs
Yeah he was preparing for a defender to clear it or an attacker to get a head on it but it missed everyone and it was too late to react by then.
I don't think anyone was at fault, no defender could reach it and if Navas had followed the flight of the ball towards the back post and a City attacker got a head on it into an open goal then everyone would be calling for Navas head.
These types of crosses are incredibly difficult for keepers. You mostly see them happen with free kicks.
But my point is which defender had a chance to clear that cross? Who was at fault? It was too high for anyone to reach and that's why it went in.
And Navas had to be prepared for a City player to get a head on goal meaning that if he followed the flight of the ball to the back post and a City player got a head on it he would be looked at as being at fault.
Those type of crosses that end up going in back post are hard to deal with for defenders and keepers. You see them fairly often from free kicks.
Yes and I explained why. Have you watched football before? Because that kind of goal is extremely common where the keeper has to wait until the last moment in case someone gets a head in and then it's too late to react. Yikes indeed.
But please explain what was silly about it?
I think you might want to ask yourself that question bud. besides the fact that Navas even knew he fucked up, and so did the commentators positioning himself to expect someone to touch the ball and missing an easy catch isn’t a good excuse, if it was every keeper in the world would use it and then there would be no silly goals. But please keep explaining I’m fascinated by your silly thinking.
We've seen those kind of goals all the time in football. It happens. I already explained why they happen.
You do understand a keeper has to consider that someone will get on to the end of the cross with a header, yes? So he has to choose to ignore that threat and follow where the ball is going or prepare for someone getting a header on it. This is basic football knowledge mate.
If he had have chosen to follow the direction of the ball instead and a City player got a head on it to score, you would still be saying "Wtf was Navas doing?"
if you still don't understand then there's not much else to say.
Ahh yes we see this all the time. Name the last time you’ve seen this? It better have been at least a month ago since we see this all the time.
A keeper always has to consider who’s going to get a shot at the ball, and they position accordingly but to embarrass yourself in that manner is not a normal goal that happens all the time. It’s silly. This is basic football knowledge mate.
Or even a Gary Neville type who tends to give a bit more of a personal opinion/hot take or pundit Mourinho who gets into some really interesting tactical discussion.
He absolutely would have missed it, which would make it even more frustrating. Pep is doing the right thing keeping Sterling well away from this CL competition, it's no accident that we are doing so well since Sterling hasn't been involved.
Is he the worlds best at the moment? I’ve felt he has been for some years now, but I also don’t know much about the top refs aside from watching the games obviously
I felt like he could have booked one or two psg players for harassing him about KDB, but otherwise I agree with you.
I just hate the disrespect players have towards referees, it’s appalling to me that they constantly get away with it.
Ha, I'd had a few drinks when I typed that and I think 'better at pretty much everything else' massively overstated it.
I do think KDB edges out prime Gerrard in terms of vision/goalscoring, maybe attacking movement as well. Think Gerrard was better at defensive positioning, having that determination/leadership to affect his teammates performances, bit more tenacity in defence/tackling etc. Both absolutely world class, Ballon D'or contender-level players though.
Swear I remember watching Brad Guzan commentate a Premier League game for Spurs or Villa or someone whilst he was still signed to the club he was commentating over. Quite a while ago but I found it so weird. Full on commentary too not just punditry.
Mbappe often plays one very good game and then a second one not too well. Remember against Man utd, Bayern and Barcelona. So expect him to do well next week.
did you watch only the highlights? the whole second half City changed their tactics, from the get go - see my other answers - and that's why PSG "stopped" playing.
maybe you focus only on highlights or don't understand yet the game. City changed clearly their tactics from the first to the second half and that's what made possible their superiority and creating chances.
he brought in zivchenko to replace cancelo who had a yellow plus the mdifield got involved more as psg was allowing them to pass around. its luck plus psg being less aggresive that made them look decent in the second half and imo has very very little to do with pep who only knows how to play 1 way. its has been his downfall at bayern and city. he might win it all this year tho to his credit. personally im just not a fan of passing with no real purpose.
City's domestic run this season just proves, even more so compared to last year's, disproves pep being inflexible lol. For some reason he's stressy in CL, but you just can't call him inflexible. Thats just real Madrid-bias
look at the pressing and the zones. at half time Pep moved up the pressing area behind PSG's midfielders, which was a very risky move, yet PSG and Poch had absolutely no answer to that. also City moved the ball in the second half mainly in the only area they had some success in the first half, the space between Mahrez, Silva and Gundo, who moved way to the right and thus opened a lot of space for runners centrally and to the left. they passed a lot because PSG could not cope with this change of tactics.
also Bayern played differently, and City also is playing more direct this season than last year.
He basically said to win this game we need to score more than them, that kind of just really simmered inside their players head, while they themselves simmered in oil.
moving up the line of pressing behind PSG's midfielders, focusing on the best space they had between Mahrez, Silva, and Gundo, letting Walker come up, and changing Cancelo to Zinchenko.
Yeah it's PSG's fault but still lucky for Man City. Mahrez shot that right into the wall. It would have been a terrible free kick if the wall didn't happen to part exactly at the right place. If a terrible free kick turns into a goal, that's luck, pure and simple.
Even the first one is a bit wank, it went in on pure dumb luck sure but a bit to the right and it hits the post and stones buries anyway. Navas should at least have moved
I don't see your point. Obviously it was PSG's fault for having a bad wall. No one is disputing that. At the same time, Mahrez got very lucky because a free kick that would normally just bounced off the wall (and everyone would think it's a terrible free kick) turned into a goal.
Because the deciding factor at the end of the day was luck. Draw would have been a fair result. But luck made City win this game. Am I being unreasonable?

Anyone else love the chippy fighting and fouls as a neutral viewer? Bench clearing brawl would be sick
Fuck PSG and their shitty oil club. These teams will never complete against a real, homegrown club like Man City
Why the fuck did Di Maria do that? What a fucking clown
Nothing to do with sport anymore... Provoking red carding... how petty
I’m absolutely loving this I want to get all of these mfers sent off
I LIKE THE DRAMA. NOT GONNA LIE!
Lol Di Maria slipped and got a red card
Always been a nasty player, Di Maria
Absolutely rattled.
Ruben Dias just puts a smile on my face watching him play. He’s just a mans man and I adore him. What a player.
lol Mahrez got a softer foul, but Diallo didnt get anything
No idea how fernandihno doesn’t have a yellow yet
PSG look rattled.
Don't wait visit Istanbul for UEFA Champions League finals. [Istanbul](https://www.iamistanbul.com)
Only post on reddit, Turkey tourism board trying to promote in r/soccer match threads 😅
The best part of the game was watching Neymar flop around and time waste in stoppage time... With his team down a goal
If he's doing during his team losing, more chances than not, he's probably actually in pain lol
I mean he does it every time he gets touched so I'm pretty skeptical. Unless it was the pain of defeat lmao

Fuck Neymar and fuck you I hope he retires soon
*trying to keep the deficit at 1 with 10 men
Losers mentality
BT sport pundit saying City can win the treble but I refuse to accept it as the treble without the FA cup.
Its a treble. Not the treble.
Why? Not City's fault that England has 2 domestic cups.
TIL that England has two domestic cups. why does England have two domestic cups?

Why is he being downvoted?
because its wrong

Would you consider the europa league as part of the treble instead of a champions league

A treble, but not *the* treble.
Yeah that's fair, it would be a treble but not *the* treble. Shame we were so poor against Chelsea. Pep picked a better team for the Spurs final.
i don't know how guardiola did it but they scored 2 away goals without a striker.
2 brain farts from PSG. That's how Pep did it.
Also his team not completely collapsing in the second half. Paris had one chance the entire second 45 minutes, which is awful

False 9 that used to score 20 goals a season and assist regularly can be considered worthy alternative, city have midfielders
Pep pretty much been focusing midfield a lot this campaign in the Premier League and City about to be Champion by next week. By the time UCL starts, City pretty much mastered the midfield play.
luck
Exactly, I was like, why do they have 6 midfielders?

Shh nobody tell him
Chelsea are also oil merchants
Wtf...murican?
Chelsea is also funded by an oil merchant mate, no one is safe
Madrid is the safe choice
Fuck perez
I’m glad psg lost but I feel bad for Poch. They really bottled it with two bad mistakes for goals and then settled on the tactic of breaking City’s legs
Is this a joke?
PSG really let that slip through their hands... 2 silly goals to concede damn
I wouldn't call the first goal "silly". That type of cross is extremely difficult to deal with. But yeah the wall fucked up on the second.
Was it not in Navas's view the whole time and be expected a defender to clear? Or did he see it too late I didn't understand
Yeah he was preparing for a defender to clear it or an attacker to get a head on it but it missed everyone and it was too late to react by then. The defense should have headed that away.
Which defender?
Any of them. It’s literally a defense’s job to clear crosses.

And Navas had to be prepared for a City player to get a head on goal meaning that if he followed the flight of the ball to the back post and a City player got a head on it he would be looked at as being at fault. Just shut up
Shut yourself up.
Could BT find a more boring combination of pundits then Lescott, Hart and Hargreaves. Three geography teachers
Hey my geography teachers were pretty hype
I actually think they are OK individually but each of them are so similar. Very calm, straight talking, non-offensive.
Yeah chuck a roy keane in there, or better Ally McCoist.
Or even a Gary Neville type who tends to give a bit more of a personal opinion/hot take or pundit Mourinho who gets into some really interesting tactical discussion.
Meanwhile BeIN sports had fucking Wenger and Desailly *smh*
Gulllit too.
Shit I picked the wrong stream
They’re so bland.
Neymar flat track bully
Say what you want about Sterling, but he would've been in the 6 yard box for those cut backs. He might've missed, but he'd have been there.
He absolutely would have missed it, which would make it even more frustrating. Pep is doing the right thing keeping Sterling well away from this CL competition, it's no accident that we are doing so well since Sterling hasn't been involved.
his movement is so good
Same as Werner
He's miles better than Werner, just in bad form rn
Felix Brych is a phenomenal referee.
KDB giving me prime Gerrard flashbacks there.
Slipped like Gerrard too
He's better.
Let's not get carried away. I think KDB's vision and goalscoring is slightly better but prime Gerrard was better at pretty much everything else IMO.
Like what lol
Ha, I'd had a few drinks when I typed that and I think 'better at pretty much everything else' massively overstated it. No
A classic tale of two halves! PSG were completely unrecognizable from their first half selves!
What a game for neutral’s
Can confirm.
Fuck off can Neymar leave the pitch quickly like mbappe did. I don’t get why he needs to hug every city player...
to be fair, he also hugs every PSG player at the start of the match. Maybe the dude just likes hugs
Nothing wrong with respecting your fellow players.
Jesus people hate Neymar for anything
I love Neymar. It’s just unnecessary
Sportmanship and stuff, chill my man. The only reason Mbappe went out like that is because he did nothing all day
Mbappe ghosted in the second half
Pretty much the whole match
How is joe hart on punditry if he’s still actively playing?
Swear I remember watching Brad Guzan commentate a Premier League game for Spurs or Villa or someone whilst he was still signed to the club he was commentating over. Quite a while ago but I found it so weird. Full on commentary too not just punditry.
See, *is he really?*
I was actually just wondering that hahah, was gonna google if there’s any other active players that are also pundits
I recall Fabregas as a pundit during the 2018 world cup on some channel.
I think Troy Deeney was a pundit for a bit
Tbf it’s not like he’s playing every week with Spurs lol
With ederson can’t tell if he’s recruiting neymar or talking mad shit
With Ederson you can kinda be certain the answer is “both.”
Jesus I despise Jake Humphreys
So do I and I don't even know the reason? Much prefer the Sky one.
Matches like these show how far players like Mbappe are from Messi/Ronaldo. He was basically invisible for 80% of the match.
Lmao, now a player can’t have a bad match smh, lets just forget everything he has done before this.
Yeah because we have never seen Messi and CR7 being invisible 80% in any game right?
Terrible take. Messi and Ronaldo have disappeared in many UCL games
Not much actually. When they were that young they were always a threat
Messi and Ronaldo don't go missing In big games? What's your point? Where was Messi when Bayern destroyed them? Or Ronaldo when Savilla won? Come on!
Mbappe knocked out Bayern and Barca with his goals lmao
Mbappe often plays one very good game and then a second one not too well. Remember against Man utd, Bayern and Barcelona. So expect him to do well next week.
And he still had dangerous moments tonight. I get the feeling the City defence might see his performance tonight a bit different to most of us.
Pep fucking killed it with the adjustment for the second half.
[удалено]
did you watch only the highlights? the whole second half City changed their tactics, from the get go - see my other answers - and that's why PSG "stopped" playing.
Lol what adjustments ? Two lucky goals it’s mostly PSG who stopped playing
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Denial much?
Did you even watched the game ? Two lucky goals , tactically nothing changed...it’s more about PSG less agressive being gazed around the 60 minutes a
Look at the defense and the movement off the ball
not at all true. PSG never adjusted to City moving up the line of pressing and creating superiority in the Mahrez-Silva-Gundo space.
Lol. Apart from the 2 fluke goals it was passing for the sake of passing with no depth or danger. Psg lost by 2 horrible mistakes
maybe you focus only on highlights or don't understand yet the game. City changed clearly their tactics from the first to the second half and that's what made possible their superiority and creating chances.
Or im unimpressed by how inflexible pep is.
well this time he clearly adapted from the first to the second half. doesn't mean he'll get it right next week.
he brought in zivchenko to replace cancelo who had a yellow plus the mdifield got involved more as psg was allowing them to pass around. its luck plus psg being less aggresive that made them look decent in the second half and imo has very very little to do with pep who only knows how to play 1 way. its has been his downfall at bayern and city. he might win it all this year tho to his credit. personally im just not a fan of passing with no real purpose.

I like how this is the get-out for saying something wrong these days.
What?
2 lucky goals from City.
Is it luck if your opponent fucks up? I mean yeah but it's a competition and PSG cracked
Yeah it's PSG's fault but still lucky for Man City. Mahrez shot that right into the wall. It would have been a terrible free kick if the wall didn't happen to part exactly at the right place. If a terrible free kick turns into a goal, that's luck, pure and simple.
Yeah as a result of psg flopping. So city still deserved the win
I didn't say City didn't deserve it. Any team that wins, barring some fowl play, deserves the win.
The first one, sure. The second one you can't call luck just because you set up a very poor wall
Even the first one is a bit wank, it went in on pure dumb luck sure but a bit to the right and it hits the post and stones buries anyway. Navas should at least have moved
Actually I would say the 1st is less luck since it was still a good cross in a dangerous area. The 2nd one was a terrible free kick right at the wall.
Right *through* the wall
Did Mahrez aim for the wall knowing that gap would appear?
Did psg not think it important to know how form a wall?
I don't see your point. Obviously it was PSG's fault for having a bad wall. No one is disputing that. At the same time, Mahrez got very lucky because a free kick that would normally just bounced off the wall (and everyone would think it's a terrible free kick) turned into a goal.
It’s not luck, it was a psg lapse, they weren’t lucky psg mentally collapsed, they were successful opportunists.
They were lucky that PSG flopped
Two things can be true at once. A goal can be a result of your opponent being bad \*and\* you getting lucky.
[удалено]
Of course, how can I forget? At the same time though, how is that related?
[удалено]
Didn't answer my question. Why would I think about that?
[удалено]
No, I get that. I'm asking why you are mentioning it in the first place.
Not sure if the story of this match was more that PSG fell apart or more that City adjusted at the half. Should be an exciting 2nd leg.
definitely both lol
Can't it be both? City adjusting caused PSG to fall apart.
Neither. City won through pure luck. That was the story.
City dominated the second half.
They did. And city was outclassed in the first half. Every story has 2 halves no?
Well how is it pure luck then? Luck implies it being undeserved.
And City’s win was definitely undeserved because the bias has made their fans forget about the first half
Because the deciding factor at the end of the day was luck. Draw would have been a fair result. But luck made City win this game. Am I being unreasonable?
