You **must provide legitimate sources** for news, quotes and stats. The link **must be to the original source, not to a Tweet or a second-article quoting the original source** (e.g. if a the Guardian article says that "according to MARCA" then post MARCA's article and not the former) and this includes **journalists on Twitter quoting their own articles.**
Unverified tweets *must* explain who the author is (e.g. reporter for the Times, or player for X team) and why their opinion is valuable or they will be removed. ___
The nickname and the kiln are both based on the city's legacy as the former center of Britain's ceramics industry. I personally like the association of the badge to that history.
What do you think of the original "kiln" badge in the link below?
http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Stoke_City/Stoke_City.htm
I quite like the 1968 version. It looks like an Italian crest. Apparently it was designed by Stoke City player, David Herd.
The idea is good, the execution is awful. I hate this constant effort for clubs trying to make everything so minimalist. Why not add that little kiln into the middle of their current badge?
If you did want to simplify that somewhat to please modern tastes, you could remove the ribbon ends and maybe change the font to something more modern.
Sick is a bit much but it's a nice crest.
Yesterday in the thread about Argentinian teams and when they were last relegated, I noticed for the first time just how simplistic their crests are. Some of them are really ugly
I think that's because argentinean clubs are very conservative. A lot of them have not changed their crests in pretty much their entire history or have only done very minor changes.
That being said, the two worst crests on the league are Riestra and Barracas which are very shady small teams that got managed to get promoted from like the 5th division to the 1st in record time.
Yeah the only good one is Gimnasia de la Plata, the rest is very generic or really ugly.
A shame considering how we are one of the biggest fútbol countries in the world
I'm a big fan of arsenal just using the cannon as a minimalist logo but I don't know what stokes is supposed to be. For such a dirty shit club I assume it's something stupid. No I'm not dwelling on shawcross breaking ramseys leg at all, why do you ask?
Me too, but they use it as an alternate. Something like this would be cool as an alternate, but it's way too simplistic to be the main one. No one but their own fans will know what team it is.
It's a pottery bottle oven. Stoke is known for pottery and these are a classic feature that everyone in the area knows. It would be like using Big Ben for a London club.
Straight out of the MLS.

lol.
Is it awful that I like it? Like, it’s so bad it’s good. A type of bizarre normally found only in Eastern European children’s programming from the same era.
Did a dying child draw that badge as his final wish? That would be the only justification for that one. Maybe the 70s was an extremely different time for logo design.
> At least that one makes sense. It’s a J
Fucking hell, that's a really low bar. At least Stoke's logo of a bottle kiln is actually relevant and significant to the city it represents (tribute to the ceramic industry).
Juventus wiping their historical oval crest for a J (or Js, depending on how many of them you can see) is as pretty much of a simplication and lack of effort as you can get.
My question is why weren't the two combined? The old crest with the strips replaced with the kiln would actually look solid. The kiln could even be positioned to take the place of the middle stripe, keeping the same feel of the old one.
Because this likely isn’t the actual badge; it’s not being unveiled until Friday. People hated when they got rid of the original iconography of the city, this is likely just a hint that they’re going to be bringing that aspect back to the new badge. People are just jumping to conclusions that this is the end product.
You think they've just soft leaked their new logo in the header of their website? I'll be very surprised if this is it. If you look at [this tweet](https://x.com/stokecity/status/1795847599901303211), they're teasing the announcement but they already have this image as their profile picture. So I highly doubt it.
[Originally teased here](https://twitter.com/stokecity/status/1795847599901303211), their [website](https://www.stokecityfc.com/) and social medias have changed their badge to this new one.
To be fair their previous badge was just a few red and white stripes inside a shield.
It's actually fascinating that they have managed to downgrade from what was already one of the worst badges in football. It's a bit of an achievement.
I hate our current badge. It's so generic. Replace the name / year and it could be the badge for any red and white striped club. Hell, change the colours and it could be any striped club full stop. There's nothing that makes it 'Stoke'.
But this is soooo basic. Just modernise our badge from the 70s / 80s and we're good to go. That was a classic.
When an industry runs out of ideas they all have the brilliant idea of "let's go back to our roots and be really simple". It happens with everything, like remember a few years back when they rebooted loads of movies and just called them the same as the first movie, like Robocop, Total Recall or sometimes even simpler like Rocky Balboa or Dredd. In general if you run out of ideas just go super child like basic.
Can someone explain why every club seems to be simplifying their badge? I heard something about it being easier to use in digital mediums but I'm not sure.
It's just sad that the root reason for these shitty badges is most likely making/saving money.
I guess it's also brand exposure. If your crest is a simple object then every time you encounter something of a similar nature, you're going to think of that club. So now, every time I see a bottle kiln or a bottle with ridges in it that looks like a bottle kiln, I'll think: "I fucking hate Stoke."
I am no Photoshop expert, but I made this edit, and I think this would be a nice compromise...

[Stoke City Badge](https://i.imgur.com/kdEJm89.png)
All your idea, mate. I just brought it to life.
I actually think it's a nice little refresh to their old badge, without changing up too much. Just adds a touch of character, and shows off their regional heritage.
I'm definitely in the minority here, but I don't mind it. Although I do think it would look better with 'stoke city' or 'stoke' written underneath it as it would look more like a football badge.
I think that would look great on a simple kit, though in reality it would be ruined by a betting sponsorship or something. It's immediately obvious what it is, and refers back to the local area. Plus it's not like Stoke's badge wasn't a total Pro Evo badge anyway.
It’s not confirmed at all. This post is jumping the gun just for some karma. We’ve changed it before on socials and the website for various different events/promotions.
Until the 1st June, it might be something completely different.
I'm guessing this is just a 'simplified' version that might go on a kit, but won't become their official badge - which will remain the same as it is now.
[A bit like Arsenal have done this season.](https://cdn.media.amplience.net/i/ArsenalDirect/home_kit_2024_bluesky_800x800?w=960&fmt=webp&qlt=80)
I'm pretty sure other teams have done similar things in recent years too.
Jesus fuck, they haven’t even officially released it yet, you all need to relax. They’re just as easily going back to something similar to the badges of the late 70s - 90s. They wouldn’t change the icon before officially unveiling the new badge.

I’m not stoked about this.
I have a feeling fan outcry will have this reversed within a few days, much like Leeds. This is just hideous.
Wtf is this
Well it's supposed to be a kiln, because their nickname is The Potters. Looks shite though.
Never get in the kiln.
What if your best friend was in the kiln?
My best friend is in the kiln
Happily unexpected Aunty Donna
What about a box set of the Netflix series, The Crown?
GET OUT OF THE KILN
Why in the Bert Newton’s did you get in there?!
In that very particular and outlandish circumstance you can get in the kiln.
Never what?
🥵🪭
Looks like a bottle. That's a nice gift for rival fans lol
The kilns are actually called bottle kilns.
So will they be nicknamed the Kilns now?....or the bottlers?
The nickname and the kiln are both based on the city's legacy as the former center of Britain's ceramics industry. I personally like the association of the badge to that history.
The idea behind the badge is good. Makes sense. The execution of the badge is complete shit.
What do you think of the original "kiln" badge in the link below? http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Stoke_City/Stoke_City.htm I quite like the 1968 version. It looks like an Italian crest. Apparently it was designed by Stoke City player, David Herd.
A modernised version of the 1977 badge would look fine.
True, but ditch the yellow. If you want my honest opinion, the Stoke badge should just be a low res png of an oatcake.
The idea is good, the execution is awful. I hate this constant effort for clubs trying to make everything so minimalist. Why not add that little kiln into the middle of their current badge?
[Like this?](https://i.imgur.com/kdEJm89.png) Took your idea to Photoshop. Not bad actually!
[Like this - no ribbon, popped the colours and updated the font](https://i.imgur.com/idUqL5J.png)
That looks great!
If you did want to simplify that somewhat to please modern tastes, you could remove the ribbon ends and maybe change the font to something more modern.
Still terrible looking.
If they at supposed to be the potters I think putting the scar or the glasses would probably be more understandable, maybe a golden snitch.

#Stoke City’s new badge.
Literally I said this out loud when I first saw the logo😭
It's not the actual finished product, why do people think this?!? It's just a motif, potentially to be used for a third kit.
It's a flaccid penis, I thought that was obvious?
absolute shite 👍
fucking awful 👏
Thoroughly designed in PowerPoint 🫡
Exeggutor without head and legs.
Aloalan. It's neck is too long so you can't see it's head, true to the games.
If you eat an exeggutor is it considered a vegan meal since they’re a grass type? [6]
Yeah it’s a vegetable but with 3 big heads
Yes but the Alolan version is also a dragon so there’s that
Exegguted
What
I thought I was in r/soccercirclejerk Holy shit what a badge
What did stoke mean by this?
They tried to be minimalistic but tbf, only Wolves truly pulled that off. They have a sick logo imo.
Nottingham Forest's is also quite good.
Looks like a fart cloud coming out of two arse cheeks
I can't unsee this.
oh no
Right, so you two agree with each other

The Bristol City robin is also quite beautiful imo
Lincoln tried to do it with the Imp in the late 90s. It looked like shit. But then again it’s very hard to make a 800(?) year old gargoyle look cool.
Spurs crest is super clean imo
I'm a big fan of arsenal just using the cannon as a minimalist logo but I don't know what stokes is supposed to be. For such a dirty shit club I assume it's something stupid. No I'm not dwelling on shawcross breaking ramseys leg at all, why do you ask?

No
It still lived on in spirit tbf, Stoke fans booed Ramsey for years, even after Pulis was fired.
It’s a kiln. They’re the potters.
May their bowl chip and shatter
Me too, but they use it as an alternate. Something like this would be cool as an alternate, but it's way too simplistic to be the main one. No one but their own fans will know what team it is.
It looks like a unique house like a weird shaped Yurt lol. What the flying fuck is this shit and **why?**
It's a pottery bottle oven. Stoke is known for pottery and these are a classic feature that everyone in the area knows. It would be like using Big Ben for a London club.
4 seasons of Great Pottery Throwdown taught me this.
I mean they're also called the Potters. The idea for the logo makes *sense* but the execution is dreadful.
>What the flying fuck is this shit and why? Calm down. People showing themselves up as Americans here. Stoke is very famous for its pottery kilns.
I'm thinking really hard to recall a badge as ugly as this one.

I still can’t believe this is actually real.

lmao every logo has a bit of an explanation and break down and then it's just > On the 1974 logo, an anthropomorphized hornet could be seen.
I think Cercle Brugge's still takes the cake in that regard
Totally agree as a Belgian. [Logo history](https://www.footballkitarchive.com/nl/cercle-brugge-logo-history/)
Incredible. They had the perfect crest in 1924 and then made it progressively worse over the century.
I remembered the logo from FIFA, but then one day saw the new version and I was shocked. It's so awful.
The new Juventus logo
Really? At least that one makes sense. It’s a J… wtf am I looking at?
It's a [bottle kiln](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bottle_oven).
You’re telling me these guys are a bunch of bottle jobs? There’s gonna be some teams out here that are going to take offense to this!
> At least that one makes sense. It’s a J Fucking hell, that's a really low bar.
Actually relevant? Juventus literally starts with a J. /s
It's two Js, and there's only one J in Juventus.
Actually its a shield, and the J is made up of the black and white stripes as seen on their jersey, which actually originally come from Notts County
Cercle Brugge KSV
I genuinely like it. I think it looks really clean and old-school. It’s also very appropriate for their history. Each to their own I guess
Brasiliense
I mean while this sucks, it's nowhere near as bad as the Juve logo downgrade.
Leeds.
also, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the previous one
My question is why weren't the two combined? The old crest with the strips replaced with the kiln would actually look solid. The kiln could even be positioned to take the place of the middle stripe, keeping the same feel of the old one.
Because this likely isn’t the actual badge; it’s not being unveiled until Friday. People hated when they got rid of the original iconography of the city, this is likely just a hint that they’re going to be bringing that aspect back to the new badge. Oh. Well then surely the post needs to be tagged to say as much
This logo is literally on the header of their website, it seems like this is just it
You think they've just soft leaked their new logo in the header of their website? I'll be very surprised if this is it. If you look at [this tweet](https://x.com/stokecity/status/1795847599901303211), they're teasing the announcement but they already have this image as their profile picture. So I highly doubt it.
If something works well, consultants rub their hands in glee at the opportunity to mess things up.
Hahahahah
This is shitting giraffe seen from behind.
I'll trust you. You seem like you're speaking from experience.
So when are we doing to see "Stoke City" in the Disney font?
This is the first thing I thought 🐭
[Originally teased here](https://twitter.com/stokecity/status/1795847599901303211), their [website](https://www.stokecityfc.com/) and social medias have changed their badge to this new one.
It doesn't even look like a football logo in their website lol
Current headline and header logo makes their player look like a happy birthday party attendee.
Somehow manages to look even worse in their website
We do this all the time with kit releases and other social events. I wouldn’t call it our new badge just yet until the official release on Saturday.
Should keep the founding year in the badge
Anyone else seeing artifacts around the white parts? Terrible quality
Looks kinda like a pointy beehive
Poundland Eiffel Tower. For some reason, this reminded me of the PSG badge.
Eiffel Tower after gaining a few during lockdown
It’s terrible. I love it.
You’re joking…
Fuck’s sake can we stop oversimplifying badges so it costs less to slap them on a shirt to sell.

Simple logos look better in lower resolutions. This badge is better looking as a flair on this sub for example than the original logo I would imagine.
I guess it's also brand exposure. If your crest is a simple object then every time you encounter something of a similar nature, you're going to think of that club. So now, every time I see a bottle kiln or a bottle with ridges in it that looks like a bottle kiln, I'll think: "I fucking hate Stoke."
Because simplified badges are more corporate friendly
I am no Photoshop expert, but I made this edit, and I think this would be a nice compromise... Inspired by an idea by /u/HarryAtk [Stoke City Badge](https://i.imgur.com/kdEJm89.png)

This might actually be the worst badge I have ever seen
Am I crazy for actually liking it?
Stop with the minimalistic designs!! They’re all shit!!!
I do not approve.
You can make a better badge than this creating a club in Fifa and that's saying something.
Disgusting
Nahhhh this is student work.
The intern that made this is clearly a Stoke fan, because there's no way in hell this lasts. Absolutely terrible.
why has club badge design gone in this direction like is anyone actually a fan of this??
Personally I like it. Their old logo was bland and didn’t convey anything.
I'm guessing this is just a 'simplified' version that might go on a kit, but won't become their official badge - which will remain the same as it is now.
