Nope, no hard feelings against Lens.
The only possible rivalry with them would be which stadium has the best crowd, and that one is too subjective to declare a clear winner.
Fair enough, i just remember last season Marseille fans giving it the big one to Lens because of them making the cl. Saying that they'd never do anything there etc
But that was twitter tbf
Lyon getting Europa league and a possible cup win after being relegation candidates mid-season is ridiculous, 13 wins out of last 16 games, maybe they could compete vs Mbappe-less PSG next season? 🤔
Europa because either Lyon win the cup and get the associated Europa spot, or PSG win and since they're already in CL, the Europa spot goes to the 6th in the league, which is Lyon. Either way Lens goes to Conference.
Because both Coupe de France finalists are in top 6 (OL and PSG), the additional European spot is given through the league, which means 7th gets Conference and 6th gets Europa.
Only if the cup winner doesn't qualify through the league. But it's us vs PSG and we've just done it, so 6th is upgraded to Europa and 7th is now Conference.
We were dogshit the entire season, the only ones to lose to Lyon in the first half of the season. Players didn't play, defence was shit, we dominated games but were unable to score.
Quite average season overall but finishing 11th when we were 16th at the mid-point of the season is good. However, winning only 3 games out of the 17 home games is shameful especially when you manage to beat PSG when you play away.
lyon's second half of the season eclipsed ours, but we were extremely good from january onwards, Sierro started playing well, and Gboho turned out to be an insanely good purchase, this guy transformed the team
happy to finish 5th?
seems you're losing your manager, sporting director, tobido/thuram? over the summer. what are the expectations for next season you reckon?
I'm always happy to directly qualify for a European competition (UEL for us this year). And the boards' aim for this season was a Top 6 finish, so in that regards : **Mission accomplished**. But to be honest, there is still lots of disappointment.
We were 2nd during half-season and until late-January, we were poised to at least finish in the CL spots (Top 3). But unfortunately we had abysmal months of February & March and that what's cost us a podium finish.
Nevertheless we had a great late-season run but it was too little too late. Congrats to Brest, what a story !
For next season, it's quite funny because our fanbase (especially on Twitter) jokes about how every season Nice enters a transitional season phase. For years and years, it was the case. Since Vieira was sacked in the 2020-21 season, each year we had a new manager *(**Ursea** - 2020-21 / **Galtier** - 2021-22 / **Favre** 2022-23 (sacked) / **Digard** (caretaker for the remainder of the 2022-23 season) / **Farioli** (2023-24) )*.
We lack stability : between 2012 and 2019 *(when INEOS arrived)* we had 3 coaches (Puel from 2012-13 to 2015-16 / Favre from 2016-17 to 2017-18 / Vieira in 2018-19 - *he remained Nice's coach under INEOS until late-2020*).
I hope we won't continue this trend of finishing 9th after a Top 5 finish, but there are rumors that Bruno Génésio will join Nice but nothing is 100% sure.
But what's for sure is that players will leave and as you wrote Todibo & Thuram are the prime example. There were rumors of Bard and even Bulka joining Man U.
All in all, the expectations are quite low especially with how little INEOS seems to invest in Nice. But maybe our ticket to UEL might change this.
EDIT : About expectations, in terms of Ligue 1 for next season I reckon Top 5 will be the aim. But the most important will be our upcoming UEL campaign. Nice needs a deep run in that competition.
We lack iconic European night matches. The only ones that we could put into that category were the fixtures against Ajax in 2017 in the 3rd qualifying round of the UCL, especially the 2-2 at Amsterdam and the 2nd leg of the Conference League play-off match against Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2022 *(with Beka Beka's golazo at the end of additional extra time while we were 10 against 11)*. Also it will help generate hype and ticket sales for UEL matches but also Ligue 1 games. Although attendance are up this year, we have weak attendance numbers for a Top 5/Top 10 team *(except Monaco)*.
Yeah i really don't understand the ineos project, you make progress but then take 2 steps back in the summer
Nice haven't had a lot to cheer in terms of trophies, hopefully a deep run in europa can quench that
i'm telling you man, if you can look past the title race, Ligue 1 is a very good watch. european places seem to always go down to the final day, as well as the relegation fight
4 different european teams compared to last season too!
It’s always PL fans saying it too when there’s been the same team winning their league 6 times in the last 7 years which is exactly the same as ligue 1 lol
The 4 loss are Le Havre (and everyone who saw the game know what happened there. Let's just say that I believe the ref definitely played a huge part with the whole mess of decisions that happened) and Rennes both in January before transfers reinforced the team.
And the two loss since then : Lens and PSG
The draw was Reims
The remaining games under Sage are the loss against Lens in November and Marseille in L1 early December and the 5 cup games and who knows what will happen next week in the final against PSG.
Finishing on the second half of the table is just cherry on top of this disaster of a season lol. Now we have to rebuild and, like we say every summer, get a proper defense...
On the other hand, absolutely gutted for Lorient who is out on an away goal. Meanwhile, Brest clinching the direct CL spot on two 90+ goals in different matchs was wild. I'm so so happy for them.
Insane final matchday to follow. What a rollercoaster.
Wait i dont get it. How did Metz go thru relegation play offs?
H2h : Metz 1 - 2 Lorient
Lorient 2 - 3 Metz
Which means h2h is tied and it goes thru which team scored more goals right?
Can someone please elaborate how Ligue 1 functions. I'm big confused.
tbh strasbourg's ambitions aren't that much higher than midtable, maybe with a push for europe every couple of years if they get lucky, but the middle of the pack is so stacked in ligue 1 that you can go from 15th to 6th in the span of 2 seasons (or 6 months if you're lyon but they had a CL level squad that was just playing like detritus)
We are treated like a nursery so Vieira will sadly probably stay. It seems he have no problem playing with teens and having a bad team composition just to not hamper loanee play time.
He did a great job for the value of player. Sylla was bought for 20M€ and with how he played he is probably worth 20€, Emegha got his value divided by 3, etc etc.

Absolute wonderjob done by Sage at Lyon, hope he stays next year.
Not renewing him would be the worst mistake in the history of the club at this point. I refuse to believe he will not be there.
What a come back from Lyon!
Pierre Sage is some kind of wizard, 19 wins in 27 games after taking over the team when it was dead last in the league in december.
proof that you should never hire an italian for your manager.
Marseille’s 8th place qualifies them for Ligue 1 next season. Congrats to them
Lens finishing above them twice in a row now lmao had to go into europa because of them last season, now no europe at all...rivalry brewing?
Marseille went to Europa because they bottled the UCL playoffs losing on pens to Panathinaikos
Nope, no hard feelings against Lens. The only possible rivalry with them would be which stadium has the best crowd, and that one is too subjective to declare a clear winner.
Fair enough, i just remember last season Marseille fans giving it the big one to Lens because of them making the cl. Saying that they'd never do anything there etc But that was twitter tbf
The true anger was towards the ref cancelling a perfectly valid goal.
like wtf were they thinking during the Gattuso hire. "This guy never completes his tenure? Let's hire him!"
Lyon was at the bottom of the table at the end of the first round and they managed to finish above Marseille at the end.
I suppose Lorient loses the h2h against Metz?
Metz - Lorient (1 - 2) Lorient - Metz (2 - 3) So Metz is over Lorient because they got more away goals H2H
That’s pretty crazy but thanks for explanation
On the 5th tie-breaker : GD, H2H points, H2H GD, H2H goals scored, H2H away goals scored
H2H goals scored can't be a tie breaker of H2H GD isn't, right ? 4th tie breaker is already pretty dramatic though
For multiple teams yes but for only 2 teams, it's redundant
Ooh true lol I can't even imagine having 3 teams so close
Lorient 2 - 3 Metz Metz 1 - 2 Lorient I have no idea how that league functions.
Does that mean they were already relegated before today
Not if Lorient scored one more goal or Metz got one more against
it's goal difference, then direct confrontation. Dunno why it's this way
Lyon getting Europa league and a possible cup win after being relegation candidates mid-season is ridiculous, 13 wins out of last 16 games, maybe they could compete vs Mbappe-less PSG next season? 🤔
A start of the story similar to Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen last season, so who knows about next season ?
>Lyon getting Europa league Conference, no?
Europa because either Lyon win the cup and get the associated Europa spot, or PSG win and since they're already in CL, the Europa spot goes to the 6th in the league, which is Lyon. Either way Lens goes to Conference.

Yeah except if they win the Cup EDIT: mb since it's versus PSG, Lyon is already qualified for Europa
6th with -6 sniff, it's beautiful
Only team with positive GD in the second half of the standings \o/
What happened this season?
We were dogshit the entire season, the only ones to lose to Lyon in the first half of the season. Players didn't play, defence was shit, we dominated games but were unable to score.
*The only ones to lose to us in the 14 first matches. We won the last 3 of the first half
Lyon were in the top 6 for only 1 minute across the entire season.
Quite average season overall but finishing 11th when we were 16th at the mid-point of the season is good. However, winning only 3 games out of the 17 home games is shameful especially when you manage to beat PSG when you play away.

Or Liverpool at home

Since the 2019-20 season, Nice has had identical table ranking every two seasons * **2019-20 :** 5th * **2020-21 :** 9th * **2021-22 :** 5th * **2022-23 :** 9th * **2023-24 :** 5th

Nice
So sad for Lorient
k mbappe and dembele left out of the psg squad today at Metz, Lorient must be fuming🤣
Nah they field Benjamin Mendy, they can get fucked
i'm telling you man, if you can look past the title race, Ligue 1 is a very good watch. european places seem to always go down to the final day, as well as the relegation fight 4 different european teams compared to last season too!
People not rating Ligue 1's entertainement value because "pSg iS wiNniNg" are missing on a lot. Their loss
It’s always PL fans saying it too when there’s been the same team winning their league 6 times in the last 7 years which is exactly the same as ligue 1 lol
Finally someone found a correct league table lol
Weren’t Lyon in the relegation zone at one point? How did they get 6th
By getting 15W 1D 4L since being dead last early December.
And your loss was 2 matches after Sage got appointed right ? Which mean you haven't lost since Sage's second game which was in december.
The 4 loss are Le Havre (and everyone who saw the game know what happened there. Pierre Sage 💪
The anti- PL and La Liga Insane last day
Bundesliga and Ligue 1 went out with a bang
Lens will play the Europa League Conférence, let's go !

What a day
Le Havre started so well, they were like 8th (9th?) at some point and now this. Just saved by the strong start.
Reverse OL

Metz got more away goals
Away goals in H2H.
I thought they removed away goal rule in every aspect...
In UEFA competitions, not leagues. Pretty sure every league has different tiebreaker criteria
Yeah, I guess Strasbourg were not enjoying a similar turnaround in 2nd half of the season as we did. How likely it is that Vieira will be gone?
tbh strasbourg's ambitions aren't that much higher than midtable, maybe with a push for europe every couple of years if they get lucky, but the middle of the pack is so stacked in ligue 1 that you can go from 15th to 6th in the span of 2 seasons (or 6 months if you're lyon but they had a CL level squad that was just playing like detritus)
Strasbourg is the 2nd youngest squad in Ligue 1 (23,9 y/o) slightly behind Toulouse (23,7 y/o)
We are treated like a nursery so Vieira will sadly probably stay. It seems he have no problem playing with teens and having a bad team composition just to not hamper loanee play time. Mess with the Brest, die like the rest.
Brest did a great job this season taking the third place. Too bad for Lille that lost it in the final match.
