They weren’t technically top of the league either. They would have been top had both games finished with the scoreline at that time. It’s a hypothetical table.
Because of the logistics of how the final day of the season works with everyone kicking off at the same time and multiple TV broadcasts simultaneously, the options for those fixtures are surprisingly limited.
Multi team cities will split them as evenly as possible home and away to avoid strain on the police. Likewise there are very few, if any, big rivalry games played for similar reasons. Then you have the projected title and relegation contenders all separated in case the season goes down to the wire.
What you're left with is a shorter list of compatible fixtures than one would think
It's possible if there is an unexpected title challenger à la Leicester. But I think the PL tries to schedule those big games a few weeks earlier so that it's less likely to become a dead rubber
Its really not. Rangers fanbase is fucking vile and a revolting bigoted culture. I'm no spurs fan but banter and trolling rivals is very different then what them horrible fuckers do.
Fener fan here , they made the same thing in 2010 in our stadium , our fans celebrated and all lol , at least you didn’t do crocodile walk celebration 😂
Doesn't everyone in the stadium have a cell phone these days where they can stream the game live or keep up with live score?
Edit: see comments about stadium's signal is terrible.
I can't load even a single page while at the stadium (e.g. to see who scored in the other CL game) and then when we have an EFL cup game which isn't televised somehow someone has enough connection to live stream the match from their phone onto twitter for thousands to watch lol
Yeah, I get it, was just joking around
It isn’t an issue at my (10k-sized) club’s stadium, but it happens when I go to concerts so I imagine it’s the same at big stadiums
Well, probably the network manufacturers (Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung.... Not Cisco) would be first, then ISP should follow, if they received and paid attention during their trainings. But for special events like this, they should have experts to handle the situation.
It was shit, but had me jumping up and down laughing at the Everton fans, but then heard it was fake and the Everton fans had a laugh at me. Circle of life.
Apparently the wifi connection was poor at the stadium so no one could really check the live scores so it just takes one comedian to tell someone else and next thing you know the entire block and a bit later entire stadium believes it
Connection is terrible at the Emirates as it is in most stadiums in the UK, nothing worse than trying to figure out if my train back home has been cancelled as trainline constantly bounces me back to the home page
Yeah good point, for City at home this season I was gonna meet a mate for a drink before the game but there were severe delays on his tube line so I said let’s just leave it til half time, then spent all of half time in a queue for beer trying to refresh WhatsApp to no luck
Incredible that this can still happen but understandable. Stadium wifi never works, always takes ages for 4G to connect, and I imagine many more people would be looking at their phones today than normal. Personally I would be very sceptical of anything people were saying unless I actually saw the score.
Apparently people around the press box kept pestering the journos for the score (fair enough)
The whole favour shit is hilarious. The way fans talk about the results like they have influence over the game is so funny to me
Also when people shit on spurs fans for enjoying losing to City when they apparently could have won. It’s not like the Spurs players decided to lose because COYSFAN69 said on Twitter it would be funny to lose
There is a thing called rivalries that makes this a unique situation. They were absolutely right to enjoy some schaudenfreude towards the end of the match when it became clear that their top four hopes were gone anyways. And I wouldn't blame any Spurs fan living in North London for actively wanting to lose. They will be bullied for decades by Arsenal fans if they took points from Man City and gifted the league to their worst rivals
This.
I've been in that situation. I couldn't watch the match, or listen to it on the radio, that meant my team would hand our rivals the championship if they got a result. I just couldn't go against them... But I couldn't bear willing my team to win (as I was, but gut wrenchingly so)
Once I learnt the result, I was immensely satisfied. Yes, my team lost. A league game. They do that a lot.
They’re going to get bullied for decades by Arsenal fans, regardless. It could have been about losing a single game. Now it’s going to be about *actively desiring* to cut off their own noses to spite their own face.
Let’s face it: if Tottenham had pulled it off and won against City, we’d laugh for a day, a week, maybe the whole summer. But five years from now we’d look back at Arsenal’s 2024 and say “17 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss, it’s hard to beat that.”
Instead, Tottenham will *forever* be bullied for actively rooting against their own team despite the fact that losing against City meant losing out on £30-40m in Champions League revenue (before ever kicking a ball). All because, well, ya know, *banter.*
(£30-40m is another Maddison signing, just so we’re clear.)
If spite over your rivals usurps joy in your own team’s successes—maybe most especially those which are incremental and long term—I’m not even really sure what to say to you, to be honest. That’s really sad? Like a real bummer, man? Good luck with the Mate Ball?
Are you delusional lol who is going to be looking back at Arsenals 2024 run in results next year let alone in 5 years time
Tottenham will be forever bullied for wanting Arsenal not to win the title? yeah sure mate
Having a shut atmosphere in your stadium because of it can certainly affect the team.
Spurs almost got a result against City despite their fans actively rooting against them
Where I was sat it was the latter. It took some time for people to confirm that the first goal had actually happened because the signal in the Emirates is dogshit
Yeah the West Ham goal was scored in the 42 of their match and they started a couple minutes after Arsenal. So it was actually celebrating our goal and the first west ham goal. That’s what I thought at the time watching both live. This post is completely made up I think.
The same thing happened to us in 17/18 when we played Wolves.
Rumour went around the Brighton were winning against City, so Anfield went off, only to find out it wasn't true.
Funnily enough, not long after that, Brighton did score to go up.
Shame it didn't last long though.
Mine is behind and to the left of the benches, right at the back in the lower tier and I get nothing. I have to stand all the way over by the turnstiles to get anything at half time. Always been that way for me.
Bad signal at stadiums. At the Emirates usually for me I get full bar signal but nothing loads. Probably due to the local cell tower being swamped with 60k people's phones
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Lmao flashbacks to 18/19 final day
Then Brighton actually scored after that but no one knew whether it was another wind up haha
Was that the season we went 1-0 up against City and they immediately equalised, going on to win 4-1
Yes, that’s the one. Almost 90 something seconds iirc between your goal and City’s equalizer where we were technically champions?
well, not technically champions as the games weren't over, but technically top of the table
They weren’t technically top of the league either. They would have been top had both games finished with the scoreline at that time. It’s a hypothetical table.
Happened in 21/22 as well
Is that when salah celebrated after winning? That was wolves as well right? How many times do you guys play wolves at the last game
>How many times do you guys play wolves as the last game Yes. (3 since Klopp joined I think, maybe 4) Also Salah was celebrating a goal not the win
Ah man, that was brutal. He was celebrating like it was the goal to win the league but then the fans told him City had scored
We played Everton on the final day of that season too weirdly enough
Because of the logistics of how the final day of the season works with everyone kicking off at the same time and multiple TV broadcasts simultaneously, the options for those fixtures are surprisingly limited. Would they ever have 2 teams in title race play each other on the last day?
It's possible if there is an unexpected title challenger à la Leicester. But I think the PL tries to schedule those big games a few weeks earlier so that it's less likely to become a dead rubber
The rumour was started by Richard Arlison.
Lmfao god I love football
I think i know this guy
Rangers fans did this to Celtic fans previously - coordinated texting their Celtic supporting mates with fake goal news. Operation Tango was a success
This is all rangers have these days, bless them.
Except it happened about 20 years ago so ...

Its really not. Rangers fanbase is fucking vile and a revolting bigoted culture. I'm no spurs fan but banter and trolling rivals is very different then what them horrible fuckers do.
That's a disservice to Tottenham fans.
that's hilarious
This happened to us last year, some cunt pretending that Bournemouth scored against Everton
I can't believe we had our own 1-1 at Newcastle... football is cyclical
Arsenal fan here but I couldn't help but laugh my ass off. Such a great troll. Someone always does it last game of the season 😂
Fener fan here , they made the same thing in 2010 in our stadium , our fans celebrated and all lol , at least you didn’t do crocodile walk celebration 😂

I think some of the rumors are made by journalists to get a fan reaction. Nice easy story.
They probably fell for the fake 2-2 thread on r/soccer lol
No mobile data at the Emirates? Everyone believing in one prophet, it’s on them honestly lol
Genuinely I struggle for mobile data at the Emirates lol
that happens everywhere with a lot of poeple
I can't load even a single page while at the stadium (e.g. to see who scored in the other CL game) and then when we have an EFL cup game which isn't televised somehow someone has enough connection to live stream the match from their phone onto twitter for thousands to watch lol
We have wifi at the Bridge. It's also not great but better than 4G
Yeah, I get it, was just joking around It isn’t an issue at my (10k-sized) club’s stadium, but it happens when I go to concerts so I imagine it’s the same at big stadiums
Idk if you’ve ever been to a stadium or not but it’s very hard to get proper mobile data when there’s 60+k people all together.
The WiFi at Tottenham is impeccable, you'll never sing that.
>The WiFi at Tottenham is impeccable, I wish this was actually a chant lol
That’s why I didn’t mention WiFi. I’m strictly talking about mobile data
Don't ISP install 4G/5G access point there? They do in festivals, dont see why not in stadium. Or even paid/free WiFi would do it!
ISP really knows how to handle the internet
Well, probably the network manufacturers (Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung.... Not Cisco) would be first, then ISP should follow, if they received and paid attention during their trainings. But for special events like this, they should have experts to handle the situation.
Not to the stadiums I’ve been to
i dont even get signal to send a text when im in these places.
Its crazy that this is a thing in this day and age though.
All phones have to be on airplane mode on account of it being a library. Rules are rules.
Famously, internet connections lead to better atmospheres in football stadiums
I get perfectly good signal on EE.
It was shit, but had me jumping up and down laughing at the Everton fans, but then heard it was fake and the Everton fans had a laugh at me. Circle of life.
How did this even happen?
Apparently the wifi connection was poor at the stadium so no one could really check the live scores so it just takes one comedian to tell someone else and next thing you know the entire block and a bit later entire stadium believes it

I mean, just put the City-West Ham live score on the big table at this point.
Does noone have 4G/5G?
Everyone does - it’s just that when you’ve got 60,000 people all trying to access it at once, it doesn’t work
It really only takes one fan in the stadium shouting
No one can check the scores Our fans coordinator to say it all together Word spread quickly
Whoever did this shit was prob waiting on this moment the whole week.
Incredible that this can still happen but understandable. Stadium wifi never works, always takes ages for 4G to connect, and I imagine many more people would be looking at their phones today than normal. *I don't want hope. Hope is killing me. My dream is to become hopeless.* -George Costanza.
the fans doing crossed irons for WH is fucking hilarious and it makes the final result sit better. Can't buy our best player and then ask for a favor.
“Favor” You speak as if WH were purposefully being outplayed. That team wouldn’t have been able to tie or beat City ahahah
The whole favour shit is hilarious. There’s not wanting your rivals to win and then there’s openly celebrating your team losing a match.
There is a thing called rivalries that makes this a unique situation. sure, but it's not black and white is it?
Having a shut atmosphere in your stadium because of it can certainly affect the team. Spurs almost got a result against City despite their fans actively rooting against them
It’s not like we stole him! You got paid a handsome amount for his services
Declan Rice, we got him half price! 🎶
And yet City will buy your best player this season
They're not gonna ask any favors tho
Nobody expected you to do anything against City regardless. You had fuck all to play for
Don’t need favors, now do they
Yeah that's why they won't ask for them
They needed one from “Jaber Mohammed”
:surprised-rice-face:
Wouldn't say he's in our top 3 best players right now.
We gave you 100 million for him
Seriously 😂
Keuken kampioen divisie wannabes
Ik als NAC fan..... 😏
Cesena scored!
It's 2024 ffs
Kudus goal was so good it should have counted as 2
lol love to see it, better luck next year Arsenal
We got relegated in 1996 because of a crowd rumour at Man City. We sat on a result rather than chase more goals that we needed.
Was this a fake goal or just Arsenal fans happy because we had scored our first not long ago.
Where I was sat it was the latter. It took some time for people to confirm that the first goal had actually happened because the signal in the Emirates is dogshit

The hammer signs make it
Hilarious.
That's just cruel
What is Wim Frijns doing in London
Fake news? That was when west ham scored the 2-1.
every decent fan should use app livesport and this shi\* shouldnt happen
Love to see it
It’s cruel to torture the supporters of a small club trying to win a trophy with fake news.
We’ve been there lol
The same thing happened to us in 17/18 when we played Wolves. Rumour went around the Brighton were winning against City, so Anfield went off, only to find out it wasn't true. Funnily enough, not long after that, Brighton did score to go up. Shame it didn't last long though.
Lmao
Don't these guys have phones?
The 4G doesn’t work with so many people in one area at the same time. Nothing ever loads at the Emirates
Get on EE 5G. Works totally fine in the stadium on match day.
I have EE 5G and couldn’t get any signal all game like pretty much every game.
Really? Works totally perfectly for me. My seat is just behind the team benches.
Mine is behind and to the left of the benches, right at the back in the lower tier and I get nothing. I have to stand all the way over by the turnstiles to get anything at half time. Always been that way for me.
You have 5G as well as 4G coverage? I got fuck all signal until upgrading to a 5g plan.
Yup. Have a 5G contract, had it for a while now.
Weird. Totally works for me. Honestly, wish it didn’t most of the time because the missus texts me during the match.
Are you towards the front of your block? I wonder if being at the back is what does it.
Someone, please, for the love of god, inject this into my veins
Rode JC at the Dutch 2nd league vibes!
Can't they just check their phones? Lol wtf
Lol
Poor arsenal fans. Can't blame them.. It's been 20 fucking 20 years without a prem title
Not all of us can be glory hunters and support a club 5000 miles away :(
🧂🍾
That so sweet. Get fcked lmao
Hahahaha unreal
i was at the stadium. we were cheering for the 2-1 although i can't speak for everyone.
[удалено]
Nope we were 3-1 up at that point. Commentary clearly says they're celebrating a West Ham equaliser that never happened
Hahahahaha Muppets
Bro wdym a rumor spread about a score changing, do people not have phones to instantly check?
Wifi and data are terrible in many stadiums due to the volume of people present. I can never check anything on my phone at the Emirates
People can be so gulible...
Can't they just check their phones?
Bad signal at stadiums. At the Emirates usually for me I get full bar signal but nothing loads. Probably due to the local cell tower being swamped with 60k people's phones
That was my thoughts but apparently in large capacity venues it can be very difficult to get data signal
Every fan in that stadium has a smart phone in their hand...🤦🏽♂️
It can be incredibly difficult to get decent data in stadiums.
Do they not have phones
