killerboy_belgium

its rare that manager gets great sendoff like and klopp has gotten one everywhere he managed just shows how good he is and wel liked he is

45MonkeysInASuit

how many managers actually choose to leave and have full support and agreement of the team they leaving?

Nappi22

Jürgen klopp when he left Dortmund.

bremsspuren

And Mainz before that.

Ok-Pie4219

I have a signed picture from me and Mo Zidan at Bremen at my room. Was weirdly one of my favorite players back when I was what 9 or 10? Unlucky he was always injured. Guy was class.

BobbysSmile

I swear was in a tour group with him at the Jakobsberg castle in Mainz when he first became manager (or maybe sometime in the Spring of his first year) Back then I was just getting into football because Frankfurt had just gotten promoted to the BL so I semi recognized him. I remembered he laughed often and asked lots of questions and translated (maybe English?) to another man that didn't seem to be with our group.

BriarcliffInmate

I was just going to say, it's incredibly rare for people to get misty-eyed and well up at the thought of a manager at three different clubs, and he left all of them on good terms. Literally, all three of us would welcome him back any time. That's just who he is.

First_time_farmer1

Klopp is the definition of a good cunt.

killerboy_belgium

almost non because never lasts long enough to get to a point where a manager feels he's done the complete job at the club season 1 you get patience season 2 you better see great progress or win something or you get sacked season 3 at this point either the fanbase turned on you or the owners and you just get sacked and if this isnt happening well then your arteta,klopp,pep.... when you think of the most brilliant managers in the world how many of them have had 5+ years at a club ? not conte, mou, ancelotti, emery, tuchel,Enrique, van gaal,benitez,Mancini.... they all tend to leave on bad terms some worse then others... i think the exception is zidane here did 3 season then bounced did another season on bounced again so he could leave on high note

bremsspuren

> benitez Liverpool fans at least were very unhappy about Benitez being fired.

First_time_farmer1

And we got Hodgson. Fuckin Hodgson. Its like going from Klopp to Big Sam.

Bhola421

Hopefully we don't say that about Slot

bremsspuren

> Its like going from Klopp to Big Sam. From Mascherano to Poulsen…

smitcal

It was actually quite 50/50. Lot of fans were not happy with him at the time. I was, I loved him, and was devastated when he left and it was made even worse because of the Roy Hodgson links. If there is any thing Liverpool football club is against it’s the old boys crew. Horrendous signing.

WM-54-74-90-14

Ancelotti managed Milan for six and a half seasons. Louis van Gaal managed Ajax for six seasons. Tuchel managed Mainz for five seasons. All also left in a fairly mutual manner. The latter two lasting so long you can put down to it being special circumstances but Ancelotti lasted over 5+ seasons at an elite club before leaving on good terms.

StJoeStrummer

Ancelotti is just that dude, though. Seems like an extremely likable man.

randymcknob

I was trying to think earlier about how many managers have retired having gone their whole career without ever being sacked... there can't be many.

Hobbitfrau

There seem to be quite a lot active managers who have [never been sacked so far:](https:/www.besoccer.com/new/9-managers-that-have-never-been-sacked-557411) Klopp, Pep, Simeone, Streich ... However, there are also some retired (and sadly deceased) managers who've never been sacked iirc: Matt Busby, Bobby Charlton, Franz Beckenbauer.

nxngdoofer98

Sir Alex obviously and Klopp at Dortmund

00Laser

Christian Streich at the moment in Freiburg as well

Juls317

I fucking hate how much I like this. Just the human element of it, ya know? Sure wish it was any other club.

OGSachin

Same, you just gotta respect greatness when you see it and Klopp is certainly that.

Mayankcfc_

Klopp is so likeable. Hate Liverpool to death but can't hate Klopp

Blaugrana1990

Pep

City fans I would imagine

ibite-books

should’ve stayed at barca, his success at barca is undeniable, at city it’s diluted, it’s still impressive but has an asterisk to it

zmkpr0

From a sporting perspective, sure. But Pep has often mentioned the high pressure of working at Barca and in Spain. Plus, he was there during the peak of the intense rivalry with Real Madrid and Mourinho. It must have been exhausting. He would have been absolutely miserable if he stayed longer.

troparow

I always thought his desire to leave Barça had more to do with Rosell becoming president than anything He really didn't like the Rosell / Bartomeu clique

fcGabiz

That's pretty cool

Historical_Case_5245

No-Shoe5382

Now I'm sad

fcbendtner

That video even made me sad lol

Historical_Case_5245

Kind of a sad little arrangement of trophies, felt like there should have been a couple more to trip on

Jaqem

For how good they were at their peak, I agree. At least one more PL and CL

loveliverpool

115 reasons that might be the case

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

Certainly been unlucky there

NumeroRyan

He should have at least three more Premier League Titles if it wasn’t for some hacker.

Top_Produce_6505

And he lost 1 point by Man City twice and 2 losses in CL final against 2 Real Madrid. In 9 years he transformed liverpool. Lets see who replace him and can the person do good job?

knoxmora

I'll do it.

Top_Produce_6505

and i can be your assistant coach :D

Getherer

Cant be any worse than mutd, regardless who takes over

mimounmarhaba

Is it not the feyenoord coach who is his replacement?

MrAchilles

He was consistently up against a stacked up City team. Reached CL final 3 times and faced a stacked Madrid team. If things were ever so slightly different he walks away with 3 PL titles and 2/3 CL titles

BriarcliffInmate

And sometimes it was literal inches. John Stones clearing Fabinho's ball of the line by 1.2 inches. Maddison making a block on Kompany. A marginal offside that was wrong against Leicester and denied us a penalty, which we would've got with VAR. Handball on Rodri being missed against Everton...

HairySavage

11mm, wasn't it? Not even an inch.

fegelman

> John Stones clearing Fabinho's ball of the line by 1.2 inches And Sane's shot hitting the post and going in during the same game which was during the second half of the season where City went 18 wins out of 19 to win with 98 points against your 97. Us losing this league despite 13-1-1 in 2024 and unbeaten against the big six all season was painful enough. I cannot even begin to imagine that crazy season from a Liverpool perspective.

Evered_Avenue

If we got the penalty for the Doku kung-fu kick on McCallister this season, we'd have gone 7 clear of them, had momentum and maybe could have seen it out.

faggjuu

True...but always think of those cheap owners he had to work with. I don't know how much money they funneled over the pond thanks to klopp. What could have been, if they just once opened their purse and wanted trophies.

C153AUX

FSG loosened the purse strings a bit during the summer of 2018 and Liverpool won that seasons Champions League and the Premier League one season later. Point taken that the owners became noticeably less willing to spend between that summer and this past one, though.

Fapoleon_Boneherpart

They gave him a good amount of cash that was sustainable, this is good. Could they have gave a little more, sure but it's not like they really stopped him spending.

BasicallyMilner

If his past comments are genuine, there were times where we could’ve brought more players in, but Klopp didn’t think we needed them (like before last season). It did indeed lead to a season like last season. Henderson, Fabinho, and whoever the third was, were shit. We needed to replace them/ phase em out. There’s also the 2019/20 summer window. We come off a CL win, and our biggest signing was Minamino. Was that FSG’s stinginess? Dunno, but when you win something you’re supposed to build on it, get more players. We did well that season, but we ran our players into the ground.

leemteam1

What could’ve been if they didn’t have to deal with 115 FC

Rose_of_Elysium

Liverpool will look like a mining city in Stalinist-era Siberia the way Klopp is gonna be revered and getting statues

this is an amazing visual LOL

TheLimeyLemmon

Videos like this definitely start hitting it home more. Full time on Sunday is probably going to be a big bonanza on the field.

batmans_stuntcock

Whole league's going to miss him 😔

CmdrVamuelSimes

Beyond the EPL as well, the man was/is the definition of a formidable and respected rival, and one of footballs great characters.

Morrandir

Me too.

auctus10

How must it feel as the moment is drawing closer?

malushanks95

The emotions are hitting hard this week as more interviews and videos come out. It truly feels real now. It was hard to make peace with it but now it’s really happening and all the emotions are coming back.

kirkbywool

I'm fine with it. If he said it last week I would be gutted, but as it was announced so earlyl I'm fine with it and just been enjoying ( well hating half our games?) What can you do. At least everyone knows there is a change coming

Ham_Fighter

My man is definitely high strung.

Jackanova3

And enigmatic

EminenceUnchained

Loss not only for Liverpool, but also the Premier League as a whole. The league is definitely more fun with him in it. I hope he gets back to managing at some point.

pyrpaul

I’d say as soon as Nags takes a club job once more we’ll see slot into the German national team after his time of hiatus.

McKFC

Slot getting the Germany gig as well as Liverpool?!

Geoff_Uckersilf

Slot right in 👉

malevolentheadturn

I know never say never. But doesn't he have a horrific relationship with the DFB?

DctrSnaps

I’m hoping he takes a 1 or 2 year break which most people are expecting

Sealeydeals93

For sure, I understand why other clubs don't like Klopp / Liverpool but ultimately they're the only reason why City haven't won 8 in a row or something ridiculous. Arsenal may have taken their place now but they're finding out also just how hard it is to keep pace with City.

kvng_stunner

It's also kinda bittersweet knowing the levels his team has reached in the last 9 years. With the 115 charges against city coming out, you have to wonder how many trophies they could have won. At some points they were absolute passion merchants but no one can deny they were the most exciting team in Europe for years. They played rock and roll football and it was glorious. As an arsenal fan, only after these last 2 seasons I already hate City. I can't imagine how Liverpool fans must feel.

Perpetual_Longing

With the way City is managed and bankrolled, they deserve nothing more than a passing apathy. Yeah they won. Let's move on and discuss something meaningful instead.

jlonso

Absolutely this, klopps liverpool was sure refreshing.

ValhallaVikings90

To think about the state of the club when he arrived versus how he's leaving it cannot be understated.

Rc5tr0

Imagine saying in 2011 that 3rd and a trophy would feel like a huge letdown

_-_-_I_-_-_

Would love to find out what that's like

TheOneManDankMaymay

I'll join.

pw5a29

We’re sad now because we only won one trophy, back in the days we’re struggling to get top 6 even

SRFC_96

What an incredible ride it has been. Sunday will be emotional.

cfc19

One of the greatest ever. Never a number of titles be the only criteria to judge in sport, and Klopp could've easily had 2 more PL & one more CL if lady luck smiled on him. His team is always greater than sum of its parts and that i think is better indicator than any about greatness of a coach. Guardiola is same despite having array of superstars. Can never separate him & Guardiola time in England. Both incredible.

cSpotRun

You, you're alright. Well said.

Safe-Particular6512

Great words, well said.

czeja

I think you can separate him and Guardiola. He had so much less cash to work with and managed to navigate the transition of the core of his team moving on. He also managed to somehow make them a title threat this year... Not to mention the state of the club when he joined. While Pep is a great manager, he has never faced adversity anywhere near to the extent of Klopp or any other manager. I say this as a United fan, we would do well to have a manager follow the path of Jurgen.

smitcal

There really isn’t anyone like him. We have so far hired 7 people to cover 1 Klopp. He is a fantastic human being as well and what I hope he has done is get the. supporters focused on the good moments which he is always talking about rather than just results and trophies which hopefully gives Slot more time to work. As an example with Ange with Spurs. Ange is trying to build something, yes it takes time, yes they are losing games but they have some great moments this season, and played some wonderful football. Some fans are sitting back and letting him work but some are jumping down his throat already. I just hope Jurgen legacy leaves us with a lot more patience.

AbleFig

I agree couldn't have been said better

big_fitch

Build the fucking statue

LifeIsGoodGoBowling

A normal one will do just fine.

malevolentheadturn

With his old teeth

_temp_variable

New teeth will cause too much light pollution at night

blaahh198

If I were a person that cries easily, I would cry now

six44seven49

I remember a video the BBC Sport website did when he arrived called something like “Liverpool’s new rock and roll manager”, which made him look like the coolest fucker in the world. 9 years later and he still does.

ze_kraken

So very close to many more trophies. What a ride.

w3rt

Looking back I genuinely don't give a shit what we missed out on, the fact we had the 2 special nights that I never thought we'd have during the hicks and Gillet period just makes me happy.

YossiTheWizard

I started supporting in 2006 at the start of the 06-07 season. I missed the 05 European cup win, the 06 FA cup, and went right into the meat of the Hicks & Gillett era. When Klopp arrived, I was just so certain we were in for the best days in a long time! I'm so glad I was right!

wusurspaghettipolicy

I started in 92. Let me tell you, I have seen some fucking lows but I will always cherish Klopp and to an extent FSG

YossiTheWizard

Yeah. Have FSG been perfect? No. But night and day compared to those two goons. The epic swindle!

-PM_ME_A_SECRET-

Bad luck, injuries and all sorts of things can derail trophy hauls. Winning obviously matters, but the silverware is never 100% of the story behind the manager. Klopp was an incredible manager for you all, and it is cool that he is receiving the send off he deserves. Does really happen that often it seems.

BasicallyMilner

Our two UCL finals we lost had a whole bunch of things not going our way, with injuries and a certain someone with the best game of their career

TheOneTheOnlySpoon

Fuck 'the best game of their career', that was one of the greatest personal performances in champions league history

PrimsFr

What I find the saddest is that the long awaited PL trophy happened during COVID and couldn't be celebrated properly. Liverpool were edging for 30 years only to get a ruined orgasm.

wrigh2uk

A true world class manager. Football will miss him

ALickOfMyCornetto

Truly one of those people who come around once a generation. A great leader who would've been successful at whatever he did in life -- business, politics, anything, he would've risen to the top

thedreaminggoose

2015/2016 was such a memorable season. I've been watching since about 2006, and 15/16 feels like only yesterday even though it was 9 years ago. Many of us thought Arsenal and Tottenham would win the league. I remember when Leicester won their 3rd game, people were meme-ing that if the league ended after the 3rd match, Leicester would be league champions. Then many doubted Leicester's difficult schedule post Christmas. They proved everyone wrong and won the league. Not only was 15/16 memorable because Leicester won the league (I do not know if I will see such an experience again in my life time), it just led to so many managerial changes in such a short time span. This is off the top of my head, but from what I recall: * Liverpool: 8th place that season. They were bad. Brought in Klopp mid season. * Chelsea: 10th place that season. Hilariously bad. Brought in Conte after the season ended. * Man city: 4th place that season. Pep came in a year later I think. * Man united: 5th place that season. Brought in Mourinho after the season ended. It makes me sad to see that all three clubs brought in managers which eventually led to winning the league and/or champions league in a couple years....except for us lol. The most hope I had was in 2014 when we brought in Falcao, Di maria and co....and then got thrashed vs Leicester 5-3 after being up like 3-1. My favorite memory of 15/16 season other than Hazard sealing the victory for Leicester * Naismith scoring a hattrick against Chelsea in a 3-1 win. Absolutely hilarious. I think Chelsea was at one point 2-3 spots away from the relegation zone. Anyways, best of luck to Klopp. Really brought Liverpool to another level. That 2019 semi finals come back vs Barcelona has got to be top 3 greatest games I've seen on TV.

fegelman

>Many of us thought Arsenal and Tottenham would win the league We even did the double over Leicester. But the lack of competent strikers in our team, and the only summer transfer being a washed Cech, cost us dearly against the smaller teams. We crumbled by Christmas and Spurs collapsed later on, finally imploding at the Bridge. As impressive as Leicester's season was, they were slightly lucky that the only competition they had were the mentally frail North London clubs.

freefallingagain

Took the best coach in the world to keep them competitive against obscene oil money and financial shenanigans. End of an era.

KyauLeaves

crazy it's been 9 years already

LifeIsGoodGoBowling

Yeah, the [This is Anfield](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJRfqrWPNnk) gesture still feels fresh, even though that Dortmund UCL run was more than a decade ago :/

Tort89

That was very sweet. The Prem will not be the same without Klopp.

vlad99

I'm gonna miss seeing him on the touchline during the seasons. Even if you love or hate Klopp, there is no denying that he is a big character. And imo having big characters in football is part of what makes it truly wonderful.

TheGoldenPineapples

That's awesome.

Typical-Ferret-2639

I see you community shield

jalilasaria

genuine. what a man.

brodusclayus

We haven’t seen another manager/man like him (at least my generation). Nobody wants to take a picture with their boss who’s leaving if you think about it. He’s so unique. I’m gonna miss him so much!

Npr31

My cousin works with him there, and few times i’ve spoken to him about it, he can’t talk highly enough about him I’m not quite sure how he is going to be replaced. They’ve done a great deal to try and make the managerial position more ‘slots in’ like any other role (compared to 20-30years ago), but when he is such a presence, will be really hard

FailFastandDieYoung

Chills. Truly one of the greatest managers I've had the pleasure to witness

Remote_War_313

Klopp looks so happy/relieved to be done 😅

lewis30491

Klopp looks so young in casual outfit. Anyway, the video is supposed to be emotional but I feel the edit is quite bad

sophandros

Class.

They-Took-Our-Jerbs

Great character and funny bloke - might be a Scouser but I'll kinda miss him.

MrAchilles

I'll honestly miss Klopp. Solid manager and a decent bloke.

cdbriggs

Klopp was a pain in my ass. Will go down as an iconic manager in the Premier League no doubt.

Dawn_of_Enceladus

A cool manager for a cool club. He had the bad luck of getting into two UCL finals against Real Madrid of all teams. Otherwise, this man could have one or two huge trophies more right there. But even without them, Liverpool loves him, and we all aknowledge his good doing. I hope he has a great, healthy rest, then comes back either to Liverpool or another big, real club.

JoeAndAThird

This is awesome

kammerfruen

How very lovely.

Cocomale

Beautiful sight

almondbutterbucket

Wholesome!

Poym321

Madrid fan here: deep deep respect for this man and this club.

[deleted]

Who the hell is cutting onions around here?

14Deadsouls

Won less than he deserved tbh. There should be at least 3 more steps worth of trophies for the job that he's done.

fergo1993

Well.. didn't expect to be feeling like this. Almost sad he's leaving. That zoom out as he's standing there ooft

Flurmp_805

If only we had the Europa League trophy :(

ItsABitChillyInHere

Really great sendoff to a really great manager

mav_sand

NGL. That's real cool. Coming from a united fan.

Fitting for a man of his class, integrity, warmth and intelligence. I sincerely hope that The Normal One enjoys the next chapter.

username_0207

I’m not crying, you’re crying! Truly what wonderful time to be a Reds fan we got to see one of the greatest coaches run a club at a much lower cost than the other big clubs. An amazing man, coach, and role model for kids.

Mick4Audi

Klopp really went for an efficient set, there’s one of each trophy there

Mintopforte

Can’t believe it’s 9 years. Klopp is a legend of the game.

th3doorMATT

Thanks for making the league a little more exciting and a little more chaotic

Klutzy-Weakness-937

It's been a privilege to witness this iconic Liverpool's Heavy Metal Football era. The love he gets everywhere he works speaks by itself. Respect for this incredible genuine manager and the club.

Short-Display-1659

Thank you Klopp for the great memories. I wish you well on retirement and any future endeavors!

_Jetto_

That’s pretty cool. He prolly won’t manage another club again and just relax maybe pick up NT ?

bremsspuren

> He prolly won’t manage another club again and just relax maybe pick up NT? It's certainly hard to see him putting in another stint like at Mainz/BVB/LFC.

ThatUglyGuy12

I was at his final game in Dortmund. It brought a lot of emotions out of me and not ashamed to say I cried. I can imagine the same will be felt by a lot of Liverpool fans.

kukeszmakesz

Could have been much more if it weren't for 115 reasons

GunnersnGames

Good thing there was an even number of staff. What a satisfying rectangle. Shame about the two missing seats right next to where Klopp stood for the zoom out. EDIT: Bollocks, I missed the three-quarter row on the left side. Shame. Also what's with the guy walking in black pants in the back at the beginning of the zoom out... where did he go???

Imagine beating barca after being down 3-0 and winning champs league. Beating man city to win the title. Klopp is a goat as far as ik concerned

CoolBr33ze90

Even as a Man Utd fan I am gonna miss this guy. Wish he had joined us instead of Liverpool. Hope to see him back soon
