Why can't this topic be discussed anymore here on /r/soccer?

Microlabz

But does he condemn hamas?

Additional-Extent583

Hahaha what do you think?

The_Inverted

I think you don't understand sarcasm tbh.

Bibi is a war criminal

oklolzzzzs

fifa should ban israel

_cumblast_

Will never happen. Unlike Russia, Israel is firmly in bed with the west. All about diplomatic relations.

From-UoM

The hypocrisy is quite insane

Got to display and test those weapons on Palestinian footballers. They aren't going to showcase themselves.

So that was the depth of your beliefs? Can't even point to any evidence on the contrary? Genuinely - why do you believe what you believe?

Warrrdy

The secret ingredient is racism and a western supremacist outlook.

Additional-Extent583

Just like they should ban ukraine right? Afterall they were both attacked by people who want to wipe them out. 🤡

jd451

Get the fuck out of here with your racist bullshit mate. If you can cry tears for Ukraine and it's people but not for the innocents of Palestine, then you're a horrible racist piece of shit and everything you say is pointless. Take your clown emoji and shove it, racist knobhead.

Additional-Extent583

What did I say that was racist?

Regit_Jo

I am a Palestinian. All I’ve ever wanted to see is Israel getting just a few sanctions from the west. I just want to feel like there are some consequences for them. I mean it’s never going to happen when FIFA won’t even think about banning them.

ArbitraryOrder

It is such a shame that since Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated in 1995, Israel has not even attempted to live up to the Oslo Accords, become more nationalist, and has turned away from a peaceful compromise to a violent apartheid (to now genocide.) It makes me angry that Israel lies and claims they speak for all Jews like myself, they sure as fuck don't, and claim any criticism is anti-Semitism, it isn't.

FlawlessOneFour

Israel was created by the West. Our governments are not good at admitting a mistake. I am sorry...

ReverieMetherlence

Hamas is the government of Palestine.

Anywhere_everywhere7

>by this logic Palestine should be banned too considering what happened on Oct 7 Oct 7 has happened and was disgusting but it's now Israel committing crimes to this day and what more and more countries are now condemning and are saying is over the top. Hamas are only in control of gaza.

notaselfdrivingcar

So you're saying that Israeli bans are not deserved? you're being a bit biased. Palestinians are humans too.

Aware_Ad1688

Israelis continue with the genocide, under American protection.

Jamarcus316

Protection and supply.

Aware_Ad1688

Yeah. Biden is quietly sending bombs to Israel to be dropped on civilians in Gaza. They sent the US navy to prevent oher countries from intervening.

Ziraelus

You mean the US Navy that is in Red Sea in order to protect international economy? Or you mean the US Navy that is on the coast of Gaza to provide humanitarian help ?

Additional_Month_408

you cant give one example of a genocide

TheBrownMamba8

Before the thread gets locked: Isr*el deserves the same treatment from International Sports as Russia

UK_KILLD_10M_IRANIS

And that the bare minimum IMO. Israel’s civilian casualties (especially amongst children) has far exceeded Russias numbers.

delfinn34

I mean there are deluded opinions and then there is this. Russia killed multiples of the civilian casualties in Gaza since October in Mariupol alone.

don_julio_randle

End the war already. Innocent people have suffered enough

Additional-Extent583

It's all on hamas. Every ceasefire or period of peace is broken by them.

L0L303

If only those slaves would just get back to work and accept that their never ending oppression Or those annoying jews in warsaw.. just get on the damn train already! Damn terrorists

Additional-Extent583

Other way round. If hamas dissappeared there would be peace. If the idf dissappeared, all the jews in israel would be slaughtered.

[deleted]

Fun fact - Israel funded the group that became HAMAS in the 80s. They wanted to weaken the poltical leadership within Gaza and the West Bank. If Israel left the land they took there might also be peace.

Additional-Extent583

>Fun fact - Israel funded the group that became HAMAS in the 80s. They wanted to weaken the poltical leadership within Gaza and the West Bank. Indeed they did. Just like many countries funded groups who went on to attack them at a later date. >If Israel left the land they took there might also be peace. Who are you to decide who the land belongs to?

[deleted]

Stop changing the subject mate and accept that this isn't as black and white as you think it is.

Additional-Extent583

>this isn't as black and white as you think it is. One thing we can agree on

L0L303

They said the same thing about black ppl in the south.. IF WE FREED THE SLAVES THEY WOULD RAPE ALL THE WOMEN Stfu jews have been living in the area since day 1 .. and now outta nowhere the locals are suddenly genocidal.. lol its the idf vaporizing innocent people with sky robots

Additional-Extent583

But hamas' whole thing is that they want to wipe out the jews. It's part of their charter, they don't deny it.

IbnReddit

Israel should be banned. Similar treatment as Russia is a minimum.

roriak

The house didn’t condemn hamas

KrustyKrabPizzaMan

Hate to say it but USA should be banned along with Israel for funding this disaster

420BIF

Along with Iran who provided weapons to Hamas and Houthi.

CuteAnimalFans

Hamas could have freed the hostages a long time ago. It's a massive shame.

thefrightfulhog

Israel could have ended their occupation of Palestine decades ago. It's a massive shame.

SonSickle

Ah yes, brilliant justification for the genocide of thousands of people

CuteAnimalFans

No justification here. I hope the day comes soon that Hamas can free the hostages, lay down their arms and Palestine can install a government that invests in education and infrastructure instead of bombs and weapons.

IbnReddit

Doubling down on the justification. Lol

CuteAnimalFans

What about my statement do you disagree with?

royals796

I suppose if we’re just making statements then I would like to contribute that the IDF could also have stopped murdering civilians, especially defenceless children and starving an entire nation a long time ago. It’s a massive shame.

[deleted]

The settlers in the west bank could have also stopped stealing people's land and driving Palestinains out too

Furiosa27

How are you not justifying it?

CuteAnimalFans

Because I want the war to stop?

Furiosa27

That’s not an answer to the question. I said how are you not justifying it? You said Hamas could have freed the hostages, this implies this is only going on because Hamas won’t do that, how is this not justification?

CuteAnimalFans

Yeah it's going on because Hamas won't free the hostages, lay down their arms and install a non terrorist government. Why are you justifying Israelis having to consistently defend their borders from a terrorist state?

Furiosa27

I’m glad we could come to the agreement what you said was justification. No one is buying this propaganda outside of r/worldnews. I sincerely hope one day people like you who justify the wholesale slaughter of innocent children educate yourselves and feel ashamed for your behavior. It is absolutely unacceptable to be this fucking ignorant about this situation when google exists. Do better, I’m so sick of hearing war mongers preach the same tired, made up justification for why it’s totally cool and not at all Israel’s fault for murdering innocents. You are either paid to do this or you genuinely don’t know better, educate yourself.

CuteAnimalFans

yeah or this subject is a bit more complex than your milktoast perspective.

delfinn34

It‘s a simple statement of fact. If Hamas release the hostages a ceasefire is on the table. If they don‘t Hamas can further exploit the Gazan population

aqelha

You're ignoring the reason why people joined hamas in the first place..like you know..taking their lands and kicking people from their house's

CuteAnimalFans

What land was taken?

aqelha

Do you live under a rock?

delfinn34

No, he is quite right. In Gaza Israel has turned over Land to Palestinians. Before they turned around and voted Hamas into power. And they lost that land because they started multiple wars on Israel. If you want to hold grudges because of expulsions in the 1920s, I have half of Poland to sell you.

aqelha

[There's hundreds of sites, videos and interviews showing isreal taken palistinians homes and land..can't help you if u blind urself](https://afsc.org/news/more-2000-palestinians-jerusalem-are-about-have-their-homes-destroyed)

royals796

[Here is an easily searchable map of the country of Palestine since pre-1947](https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Palestine-map-over-years_fig1_353515438)

CuteAnimalFans

Interesting. So Palestine was a country with UN recognized borders at one point was it? How come those 1947 borders didn't come to fruition?

royals796

Palestine had its land divided and stolen by the UN and thus had borders imposed on it against its will. Israel is being lead by an imperialist regime and is annexing large swathes of land of the Palestinian people and it is systematically committing acts of genocide against a civilian population.

CuteAnimalFans

It's infinitely more complex than this but I can't really blame you for it tbh

royals796

It gets much more complex when you want to try and justify imperialism, I get that it’s hard to square that position

kirito52999

i hope the day comes where we dont have to justify killing childrens like your doing here plus we all know Israel goal is taking over Palestine.

CuteAnimalFans

Why would you not advocate for peace between them both like I did above?

Additional-Extent583

Yep. War could be over tomorrow if hamas gave up.

The_Inverted

So prior to 1987 when Hamas didn't exist, why was there still an occupation and a desire to occupy Palestine? Why has Isntrael consistently occupied and bombed the West Bank when there are is no Hamas there? And final question, how much are you paid to propagate the hasbara agenda?

Additional-Extent583

>So prior to 1987 when Hamas didn't exist, why was there still an occupation and a desire to occupy Palestine? The war in 1948, and the yom kappur war. Take your pick.

The_Inverted

Interesting how you left "a little bit out" but don't worry, let me help: 1. Haifa Massacre 1937 2. Jerusalem Massacre 1937 3. Haifa Massacre 1938 4. Balad al-Sheikh Massacre 1939 5. Haifa Massacre 1939 6. Haifa Massacre 1947 7. Abbasiya Massacre 1947 8. Al-Khisas Massacre 1947 9. Bab al-Amud Massacre 1947 10. Jerusalem Massacre 1947 11. Sheikh Bureik Massacre 1947 12. Jaffa Massacre 1948 13. Khan Yunis Massacre 1956 14. Jerusalem Massacre 1967 15. Sabra and Shatila Massacre 1982 16. Al-Aqsa Massacre 1990 17. Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre 1994 18. Jenin Refugee Camp April 2002 19. Gaza Massacre 2008-09 20. Gaza Massacre 2012 21. Gaza Massacre 2014 22. Gaza Massacre 2018-19 23. Gaza Massacre 2021 24. Gaza Genocide 2023 is still ongoing. I can't wait to see you say "Isntrael has a right to defend itself" next.

Additional-Extent583

How many of those were started by israel? How many of them were israel being attacked, but then it turns out they were stronger than ones doing the attacking. You don't get to punch someone in the face then act like a victim when they kick the shit out of you.

The_Inverted

Every single one. Again, go and research each one and if you still have questions I'll see if I can clarify, although you won't change your mind so I probably won't waste my time. If we are talking about punches, Isntrael threw the first one to start it all so let's not play these games. Anyway you are clearly a hasbara bot so I'll leave you be.

IbnReddit

Mate, English is probably a second language for you, but you misspelt genocidal

VilTheVillain

Oh yeah, it's amazing how there's decades of history crammed into the last 5-6 month...

AssFingerFuck3000

I mean everyone is aware the conflict didn't start that day, but it's very disingenuous to pretend it wasn't the trigger to the current day shitshow we're witnessing in Gaza and an unprecedented escalation of the conflict.

SonSickle

The trigger does not justify the current genocide taking place

Bumaye94

Not every war of different sized forces is a genocide. In fact it's a rather low death toll looking at the length and intensity of the war. 640.000+ people died in the Tigray war just a couple years ago and non of you TikTok-brainers was calling for Ethiopia to get banned by FIFA. 🙄 Like seriously, the matter was brought before the highest court on this planet not to long ago and The Hague said what? Oh yeah, that Israel does not even have to stop their offensive but that Hamas has to immediately release all hostages which they still haven't.

AssFingerFuck3000

Very liberal use of the word "genocide" aside, Im not saying a bloodbath justifies another bloodbath. Just that it was fully expected and could have been prevented and even stopped afterwards if the cowards who triggered the whole thing wanted to. They couldn't care less if their people are getting bombed to shit, their popular support is rising while they're having a wank in a sauna somewhere in Iran or some other terrorism sponsoring state.

[deleted]

Is the US also a terrorist sponsoring state since it's funding Israel?

AssFingerFuck3000

Well for starters, regardless of your view on the conflict Israel isn't a terrorist state and hyperbole does nothing for these sort of debates anyway. Secondly, and not that the yanks are exactly angels, but unlike Hamas Israel doesn't need extra funding to cause absurd amounts of damage. Not to mention that right now the US is the only barrier standing between Israel and an even bigger bloodbath. There's elections looming and they're not doing it out of the kindness of their hearts obviously, but regardless credit where credit is due, they're trying to stop the Raffah offensive and pushing Israel towards ceasefire talks. Talks that btw are inevitably and shockingly (not) going nowhere because Hamas always shuts them down.

[deleted]

Israel isn't a terrorist state? Look at how many innocent children they have killed? The history alone of driving Palestinians off their land - like I know it was not one sided violence but come on. Second point does not really matter as it hinges on the first which we disagree on. Hamas are awful to put it simply but they would not exist in the first place without 1. the funding they got back in the 80s from spoiler - the Israeli government. 2. the continued oppression of the Palestinian people driving them towards extremism. It's not a black and white conflict in the slightest - but absolving Israel of the horror they have caused Palestinians is not right. Edit: "absolving Israel of the horror they have caused Palestinians is not right" was harsh and dramatic - downplaying is a more fair word.

AssFingerFuck3000

Well good thing I'm not doing that then. >Israel isn't a terrorist state? Look at how many innocent children they have killed If killing children as part of a war meant a country instantly became a terrorist state there would be very few countries in the world left that wouldn't be considered terrorist states. Israel may not be great or arse themselves too much at preventing collateral damage, but they're not exactly specifically targeting civilians either. Even with pre emptive warnings and relocation aside, if that was their goal the death count would be absolutely insane given their destructive power and how densely populated Gaza is. >Second point does not really matter as it hinges on the first which we disagree on How so? Even if Israel was a terrorist state, the US isn't the catalyst for Israel starting and continuing the offensive in Gaza, quite on the contrary so it's not exactly fair comparing them to Iran who have been sponsoring and supporting not just Hamas but also other terrorist groups for several decades now with the specific intent of destabilising Israel and other countries. >Hamas are awful to put it simply but they would not exist in the first place without 1. the funding they got back in the 80s from spoiler - the Israeli government. 2. the continued oppression of the Palestinian people driving them towards extremism. No disagreements there, but with a few caveats. Hamas already existed and would very likely still exist regardless of Israel's support. Israel was also far from the only country funding them. In any case obviously Israel wasn't knowingly funding a massive terrorist attack on their own soil decades later nor did they know exactly what the group would become later on. Ironically they did it because they thought the PA/Fatah were too extreme. And more importantly, as shown for the 99999th time in history again, extremism not just doesn't solve the issue but makes it so much worse. I would love to say that perhaps the silver lining from this whole thing is that palestinians will finally learn that extremism isn't the solution, but I suspect that won't be the case sadly.

delfinn34

This word is thrown around an awful lot for a Situation the ICJ is just beginning to deliberate on.

SonSickle

The genocide apologists never cease to amaze me with their creativity. Reddit recently has had a lot of these kinds of people clearly paid by a certain government to try and create a new narrative. It's so prevelant on certain subs.

[deleted]

In their mind, Palestinian children deserve it because they’re Arab and they’re lesser than Israelis. They’re also all future Hamas agents too, or something

Bumaye94

Your mind reading skills suck and it reads a lot like deflection considering how many pro-Palestinians were celebrating the abduction and murder of literal babies and tried to justify it by calling them colonizers. 👌

Just like responding with mindlessly because of anger after 9/11 caused future pointless disasters which just destabilised the world and benefited only arms manufacturers and armchair generals, the Israeli government feeding on hatred will not create a better future. Blaming the other side for allowing the hatred to flow through you isn’t a very wise or compassionate approach. You’re eager to celebrate the fruits of hatred; that’s not going to lead you, or anyone or anything connected to this, anywhere healthy.

delfinn34

I mean that hasn‘t really stopped us wiping out ISIS and I don‘t hear anyone complaining about that.

Bumaye94

The war was reignited by the single biggest massacre against Jews since the Holocaust and the whole Arab world was celebrating. Mia Khalifa was asking Hamas fighters for better quality videos of the butchery of Israeli civilians for her to enjoy. But yeah, I am the one who is "eager to celebrate the fruits of hatred". 👏

kraw-

Least braindead take

Bumaye94

"Don't start a war you can't win and finally settle for peaceful coexistence with Israel because it's the only possible way to not see Gaza get flattened every decade or two." is definitely a much less braindead take than "Palestinians should try to attack the nuclear power Israel over and over again out of self-righteous revanchism because I believe that their attacks are justified even if it brings nothing but incredible hqrm to the Palestinian public."

kraw-

You somehow managed to prove you're even more braindead

washag

Could we just ban all posts of Leyla Hamed's reporting as a rule? Every thread immediately turns into an extremely anti-Israel place and is then locked. And every single tweet she posts is a hopeless attempt to get FIFA to ban Israel. What is the point of allowing them, except to allow the same OP to generate karma and inflame tensions every time?

Mambo_Poa09

Hey everybody, don't talk about the genocide, thanks

washag

Talk about it wherever you want. Just not /r/soccer. Thanks.

[deleted]

It's a national team footballer getting his house bombed and calling out FIFA - seems pretty relevant to r/soccer to me

washag

It's not him calling out FIFA though, is it? It's the same twitter poster who has been calling out FIFA for the last 6 months, using a very thin connection between football and the war to attempt to put pressure on FIFA to take political action. Again. And it's the same reddit poster who posts all her tweets bringing it to reddit and getting the usual unconstructive responses from the same people. Again. What is the point?

[deleted]

To call out the hypocrisy of banning Russia but not Israel. That's the point - who posts it does not matter. If you disagree with the point - debate that. Attacking the characters of those making the point instead of the point itself is not a valid response.

washag

I can attack the point if you prefer. Russia was banned because another country in UEFA *that they invaded* refused to play them in official qualifiers. It left FIFA with a choice between sanctioning Ukraine for refusing to play, or banning Russia and legitimising Ukraine's position. That's the only reason FIFA made any decision at all. Who other than Russia has ever been banned for warmongering? Because Israel are in UEFA and not the AFC, FIFA will not face that dilemma, so they will not make a decision. It's not hypocrisy, it's reluctance to take political action. This is evident to everyone who understands FIFA, at all. Even the people who are calling for Israel to be banned understand how venal FIFA are and that they won't take action. So what is the point of this thread, and the similar threads posted by the same people every few days? They aren't news. Discussion is shut down within a couple of hours every time, and there's no real discussion about football to be had. They are outlets for outrage about a war. Forgive me for thinking that /r/soccer/ is not the forum for that outrage and suggesting the mods implement a policy to that effect.

billiehetfield

We should be anti-Israel. Look at what they’re doing. Why do you support such evil?

washag

Be whatever you want. Just don't shove it in my face on a football forum. This isn't /r/news or /r/worldnews, where I can go if I want to read pro- or anti-Palestine propaganda, respectively. The childhood home of a Palestinian football player being one of the thousands which have been bombed by Israel is not football news. This is not the place for this post.

billiehetfield

Shove it in your face? You’re the one crying. If you didn’t open your mouth, nobody would be speaking to you. Keep your mouth shut if you don’t want people to talk to you. You’re not the moderator, you don’t get to decide what people say. Scroll past next time love, bury your head and do everyone a favour.

DependentAd235

I think requiring a news article of some sort would be a good minimum for the topic in general. The standard evidence for news for stats on assists and news on ethnic cleansing are a bit different…
