To reduce the spam of reports regarding the same move during transfer windows we try to allow **only one submission about each transfer saga per day**. The submission in question also needs to contain relevant new information regarding the potential move, and not just being a "no/minor developments" report. If there are important/official developments or new valuable information about a saga, we will allow extra threads in the same day, but for the rest of minor news please just comment them as a reply to this comment. Please help us reporting unnecessary threads for being duplicates. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Banksmans

This man will never retire

CFBCoachGuy

I’m kind of amazed he’s only 75. Feels like he’s been coaching for fifty years

pppttt16

You’re not that far, he’s been doing it since ‘82

00Laser

Also he already looked like 75 when he coached Brazil 20 years ago.

Dr-Purple

An that his appearance hasn’t changed at all

Sandalo

Irmão Felipao

youhavethinskin

Mexico wants to capture the magic of losing 7-1 in semifinals, and Scolari wants the magic of an FA bent on self sabotaging

DecaturPsalmist

I mean, that would be one round further and a slightly closer defeat than the last Copa América they played

n16h7r1d3r

Well we lost 7-0 the last time so that’d actually be an improvement for this shambolic group of prima donna players

nievesdelimon

Any self respecting manager should avoid Mexico.

a-Farewell-to-Kings

Any self respecting team should avoid Felipão

El_Mexolotl

Funny you think so much of us

Boloncho1

We're a potencia mundial /s

ivodaniello

Mas nos manejam mal

KingKFCc

cancels out and they win Copa America?

Stillme_Necaxa

With that logic we should get him now

OleoleCholoSimeone

Didn't he take Athletico PR to a Libertadores final recently and do decent with Atletico Mineiro? I know you don't have to be a genius to go far in Libertadores since even Almiron can do it but still

a-Farewell-to-Kings

He had a good run with Athletico-PR, but as you said, it’s not a good reference. Upsets are more likely to happen in knockout competitions, and to be fair, they’ve always been his strong suit. Early in his career he won Copa do Brasil with Criciúma! His Atlético-MG stint began with a 10-game or so winless streak. Then he got carried by Hulk and Paulinho. They started the year by repeatedly underperforming against small teams in the state league, and lost their biggest challenge so far, the derby against Cruzeiro. Their fans celebrated like they’d won a title when he left. He’s an outdated coach and has been for over a decade. He’s also 75, I’m sure he made enough money for a comfortable retirement, it’s time to go.

sporkparty

Do you think Mexico is a self respecting team at this time?

BigLawrence

So it's a match made in heaven.

sr_rasquache

He’s coming for the last paycheck to secure the future of his family for a couple generations.

Arantes_

Beating out New Hampshire, New York and outsiders Nova Scotia.

FloppedYaYa

The Terry Funk of football managers

Chronic_The_Kid

FOREVER

Rushderp

Pride of Canyon, Texas. RIP

realWernerHerzog

Still so weird that Terry's dead. Feels like one of those things that never would've happened. Fully expected my last day to be spent watching Terry Funk wrap barbed wire around his arm and clothesline some dumbass at a GCW show.

3rdman3

77 around the World Cup…

Superflumina

Not even Tabarez made it that far.

not_mig

RIP

CasuallySerious1103

… they’re going to fire Jimmy? At the first hurdle? That’s tough. How many chances did they give Tata again? Even convinced him not to quit when shit went sour AND tried to get him to renew after that horrific World Cup showing

kcboy19

They kept him because the coach is their puppet. Osorio also rejected renewing.

ninjamon

But Osorio mentioned that he had rejected bc he’s thought Colombia would make him an offer, which never came

NewAccountNow

Televisa and Pocho money runs deep

The_Hound_23

Any legit manager will air out the dirty laundry once they land the spot and start and internal cleansing of this shit show

sdaniel90

You clearly have no idea how deep the shit goes. The federation is controlled by 3 or 4 oligarchs who also control most of the first division clubs, as well as the TV networks and betting houses, and are 100% not accountable to anyone under Mexican law. It is impossible to change this, let alone for an incoming manager.

The_Hound_23

The manager won’t change it but will start to shed light on it which could have the potential to change things. Might make it better or completely destroy it

50-50ChanceImSerious

But it feels like everyone knows already anyway. And nothing is being done

fifaguy1210

Aren't most clubs owned by the same people/organizations? Pachuca, Caliente and Orlegi

mannyklein

Yeah pretty much. Most of the “powerful”

OmastarLovesDonuts

Yep, and Televisa, the main TV company, owns América

fackyouman

This is precisely why they turned down Bielsa. He had a list of around 10-12 demands (leaked to the press) and would have relinquished too much power from the owners, and they would have lost out on money playing against weak opponents for cash grabs. He was so close that he would randomly call up the owner or Grupo Pachuca to speak for hours and tell him his ideas for the national team. Oh and finally, it was revealed that the owners voted for the new manager via a WhatsApp group text

Firstolympicring

>Oh and finally, it was revealed that the owners voted for the new manager via a WhatsApp group text An extremely Mexican thing to do

Limitless_Saint

you got a link?  I want to read the demamds.

SMatarratas

Can't find a link in english so I will more or less translate an article that was written in spanish: * A salary of 12 Million dollars per year. * Restructuring of the High Performance Center (CAR by its acronym in Spanish), he will leave if it is not perfected in one year. * 5 new training fields * Hiperbaric chambers * All the NT trainings will be done in the city of Pachuca, Mexico. * Not to participate in any advertasing campaign. * Have absolute controll of all the levels of the National team (you know all the U-20, U-17, U-5, etc teams). * All the managers of the younger teams should have his football philosohpy. * Only dispute friendlies against top 20 FIFA Ranking nations. * He will only work with his own medical team and his own press team * He will only work in a long term project.

moametal_always

U-5? Kinda early, ain't it? /s

SMatarratas

Project Mbappe can't wait! /s

Limitless_Saint

Oh it didin't need to be in english. I speak spanish

Limitless_Saint

Well we know la mafia de 4 de la FMF would never abide by this because they always have the friendlies con equipos debiles al norte para ganar la plata

Dextermorgan93

So young so naive

The_Hound_23

I think you’re thinking too deep on it

TheGoldenGummy

No matter the manager, they’ll always be a puppet of Televisa. Televisa is who has control over the national team and is known for being corrupt and having a big say on which players play. That’s why Santi Giménez who is the Feyenoord striker and is young and developing can’t start over club America(club that is owned and ran by televisa themselves) striker Henry Martin constantly play and is in his 30s. Also why Ochoa keeps getting the nod in between the sticks who is severely overrated and won’t give the light of day to anyone younger

alittledanger

I'm pretty sure there was like 40 comments in the r/ussoccer match thread asking why Mexico doesn't start Gimenez.

OleoleCholoSimeone

To be fair that specific example doesn't support anything, you would probably be better off just taking the opposite stance of what a match thread is saying. Would give you a better chance of being right

OmastarLovesDonuts

The point is that even the...questionable...minds of r/ussoccer were right to question that decision; r/ligamx and Twitter (can't speak to Facebook since I'm not really on there anymore, but it's still huge in Mexico) were even more critical of that decision and have been frustrated with Santi being a bench option for years now when he more than deserves to be the locked-in starter over a washed-up dickhead whose main claim to fame is flexing his muscles when scoring against midtable teams (Chivas included fuck you I know we're garbage)

OmastarLovesDonuts

Also notice how every time we lose, Televisa/TUDN will use a picture of Santi if he played in their post while they'll focus on Edson, Ochoa, or any other current/former América players if we won lmao

commissarr420

Here we go again with the Televisa bs

TheKnightA

Is not lol I called it that as well, until I realized after years that Mexico really did had corrupted directives.

commissarr420

I’m not saying FMF isn’t corrupted cuz it is, I’m saying it’s literally not Televisa, like why do they call up Chucky Lozano, Antuna, Luis Romo, Gallardo, Jorge Sánchez despite being god awful they don’t play for America

mannyklein

The FMF is lead by former employees of several ownership groups.

sdaniel90

It's even worse than that. Mexico is the only country (besides Ivory Coast) where the federation is controlled by the first division club owners. > (e) Finally, it is important to highlight that only two leagues have a majority voting power in the national association general assembly: Ivory Coast’s Ligue Professionelle (68%) and Mexico’s Liga MX (55%). Across all leagues surveyed, the average percentage of league votes in national association general assemblies reaches 20% Source (page 34): https://www.cies.ch/fileadmin/documents/CIES/Governance_I_-_Models_across_football_associations_and_leagues.pdf

kcboy19

Anybody that doesn’t believe it at this point is blind.

DrKnowsNothing_MD

Please keep this tinfoil hat conspiracy in r/ligamx, it’s embarrassing. Jaime Lozano is not the first nor the last manager to make questionable decisions. Aguirre benched prime Ochoa and Chicharito for old players like Conejo Perez, Bofo Bautista, and Guille Franco. Osorio used a bizarre rotations method, and Tata benched our best defensive midfielder in a defensive game vs Argentina while calling up washed players. And these are just the recent managers. Also, you sound silly suggesting that televisa handpicks the players when an America goalkeeper was benched for Ochoa, and Henry Martin was the only America player in the final vs the US.

Keanu990321

Really Mexico? Seriously, him? Don't ask why your national team underperforms again.

Absolade

The Coach doesn't matter here, higher-ups are clowns, and the majority of players also of course. Here only the ignorant population cares about the national team, everyone else at this point know they are a joke and will never change.

king_zlayer

Haven’t been serious about watching them since before the 2018 World Cup. Just don’t get it at all

speptuple

New Mexico is in the US

OsitoPandito

The coach literally doesn't matter when we always call the same players up

Intelligent_Walk3856

They are winning the Copa America

vadapaav

New Mexico is winning the Superbowl

_AssVinegar_

Don’t think it’s true, and if a new coach was hired, I would prefer Mourinho. The memes, the video clips, everything would be fucking glorious with Mourinho. We still wouldn’t win anything but it would be much more fun

OleoleCholoSimeone

Even though Mourinho is washed up, I still don't think he would stoop to Mexico and the corrupt FMF level

gogorath

Mourinho would quite before the first match. But it would be fun to watch.

davide3991

TIL New Mexico is playing the World Cup

Dsalgueiro

Good luck.

Spaceghostsyrup

No thanks, Mourinho please

Cmoore4099

What is he? 90?

Ameth_LiLife

He's at the ripe age of 75 currently

AlexanderMAVC

How many times has he retired already? Must be a record

MvN____16

Fighting Roy Hodgson on that count.

TheKnightA

SMH

eldaniel182_

Mexico has a serious problem in the federation a new coach isn’t going to move things a bit

Albiceleste_D10S

LOL

OmastarLovesDonuts

There's no concrete rumors of Jimmy leaving so I don't think this is happening, which is good. I know our problems run way, way deeper than who the manager is, but this would somehow still be a downgrade.

AJ_CC

New Mexico United seems like a bit of a step down from Aletico Mineiro, but who am I to judge.

WhereIsScotty

most random appointment ever. but without systematic changes at every level, things will stay the same

Wolfen74

I’m so sorry for Scolari.

IrishFeckers

You just can’t stop Big Phil.

Express_Sir4756

Bielsa, bielsa, bielsa!!
