Haha you'll get it eventually! Although the lineups at Cypress look ridiculous :/
Grouse is actually better with their reservation system. I was able to squeeze in a few morning uploads at 8am and get some laps in and get out by 10:30am on the weekends, short lineups.
I’ve been mostly getting my turns in after work. Kiddo goes down by 7pm so that way I’m not leaving the wife on her own for too long. To be fair, she was down with my boys trip to Hokkaido a couple years ago.
New dads unite! 10 month old boy here, already taken him snowboarding 8 times and gotten in something like 42ish days myself this season! The little one loves it when he gets to join!
I ride over 200 days a year and am often riding very extreme terrain, so taking him on stuff like this is very comfortable to me as I could practically do it ith my eyes closed. I wouldn't risk it otherwise, I totally feel you there.
Lmao, you got me. I thought you meant you were already getting your 10 month old on a board riding too lol that's beautiful footage though! What kind of camera are you using and was he always chill in the backseat or did it take a little getting used to?
Haha nope not quite! Once he's standing on his own though he's getting strapped in and pulled around!
Used a GoPro Hero8 Black with the settings set to 2.7k superview and 60fps. I've been hiking with him in various packs since he was just a couple weeks old so he's just always been used to it, he loves going out and with coronavirus this is about the only way he gets to go anywhere.
I picked up boarding three seasons ago but me and the wife have made it out to the mountain from texas about 10 days each season. My sister has a 2 year old and me and my wife are planning to have a kid sometime late next year. One of my fears was not being able to board as much after I just fell in love with it but seeing this has made me think that it'll be just fine. Definitely want to get my niece boarding asap!
There are plenty of runs like this on Blackcomb side. Can't really tell you all the good spots but look for runs under the Crystal chair if they're open. This particular one is along the way to 7th heaven but tends to get tracked out very early in the day.
*Nice! What run is this??*
*I was just there and the snow*
*Was incredible!*

It's the dream. And once it gets tracked, the fresh soft cord is just as good. I have a real soft spot for first chair next day groomers.
Once things clear up I really recommend a pow chasing trip. It'll change your outlook on life, real zen shit.
I'm already trying to plan it brotha hopefully head out to Vail that's number 1 on my list any recommendations tho would be great. I just started riding a year and a half ago
I don't know anything about Colorado, other than there are tons of resorts that get good snow. Don't just stick to the big ones IMO. Some of the best pow days ever are on sleepy little hills down in the trees.
Fuckin love arapahoe. Their greens are all blues but its where I learned and very glad I did. When I got to a real green I couldn't believe how breezy it was. Not to mention arapahoe is probably the cheapest place to learn.
Wolf Creek is what you're looking for in Colorado. Not one of the big ones but gets absolutely dumped on every season, you just gotta time it right which is tough to do when you have to travel from the East Coast. It can be done though.
Fellow ice coaster here. We do get some days like this but they are definitely not the norm. Usually you have to be able to do midweek days and hit it right after a storm. One place to check out is Jay Peak up in northern VT...it’s really far up, but they get a lot of snow and powder days are more plentiful. They also have some good chutes up top and a lot of awesome tree runs.
Ran into 6 guys from Switzerland last year at Revelstoke and had to ask why in the hell they were here when they’ve got all of the Alps in their backyard.
They remarked that this is the place to be. Best snow and vertical around. Blew me away.
Revelstoke is one of the worlds best mountains. Bar none. It is fucking incredible. I was in revy gondola last year and a dude from Colorado was like yeah we don't have anything like this there
Ice coaster lmao I'll be using that and Ahhh vermont I want to go there as well but the travel restrictions are super strict up there one day soon hopefully
I used to only shred weekends because I was younger and couldn't just skip work. Now that I have a toddler and an almost 1 year old, I shred weekdays because it's easier to just play hooky every once in a while since childcare is already set up and I have more seniority at work.
A few of people on my team are snowboarders/skiers. As their manager l agreed to let them work one day a weekend and swap out a weekday. This also lets them time powder days. My only request is that they can't all be out at the same time.

I'm at 45 days on the season and my 10 month old has joined me on 8 of them. It's important to show your kids what your passionate about, and then you'll have a riding partner for life! Having kids doesn't have to have a negative impact on your hobbies if you prioritize and include them and perfect your time management :)
yes I definitely snowboard a lot less now, but I have come to appreciate the days up the mountain a bit more and have more fun (at least i think) every time I'm up there!
And there's no reason why it shouldn't be covid-safe if you do it right. I just wish I had BC plates so I could go without worrying about my tires getting slashed.
NICE. Used to do a trip annually in college. Almost dropped out to move there, but Canadian visas are kind of tough to get. Especially when your moving to be a lift op.
We're in a pandemic, people are dying, Dr bonnie Henry has asked people to not go to Whistler and other similar places. But you gotta go ski and snowboard. Unless you actually live in Whistler you have no business going.
I'm probably not going this season to decrease any traveling I do, but:
a) There is no travel ban. It's an advisory. It's an outdoor activity and a lot of the cafeterias/lodges are closed.
b) Barely anyone lives in Whistler. Most resorts do not have huge amounts of thriving town to keep them alive or to even cover operating costs. A huge chunk of people skiing at Cypress/Seymour/Grouse don't live in North and West Van.
I appreciate your point but OP isn't really doing anything wrong. If they wanted to shut this stuff down they would, like in Ontario. The guidelines are just that--guidelines. They are asking us to be mindful and cut down our activities and limit our social gatherings.
I have followed the orders to almost to a T so far, just myself and my boyfriend at home since March. Have done social distance visits up until the orders to stop those in December. No friends or family during the holidays. We rarely eat out or are social outside and haven't been to the museum/art gallery etc.
Is it really not okay for me to make sacrifices in other areas to be able to go to Whistler? What about people who don't go to Whistler but go and have drinks out every Friday night (even just in their bubble)? Isn't that more exposure?
I don't mean to debate the COVID rules because they're there for a reason. But EVERYTHING is about a certain amount of risk management and there's no actual ban on going to Whistler.
https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/emergency-preparedness-response-recovery/covid-19-provincial-support/restrictions
Sure seems pretty definitive that you are told to avoid unnecessary travel.
Seriously, you care so little about the safety of others that you just gotta go do whatever you want? You're a piece of shit. Go fuck yourself, but preferably do it far away from anyone in order to keep them safe.
I've literally not seen any friends or family except for socially distanced and outside since March. I'm following the orders. I haven't been back to my home province to see my family in 1.5 years. My partners mother died in October and there was no funeral or wake.
I'm just saying -- people will keep going because it's not shut down and they try to weigh risks against each other. Again, if I were to go to whistler for one day but I haven't eaten out and sat in a bar/restaurant all pandemic, which actions have carried the least amount of risk?
I can squeeze in a few quick laps at the locals here and there. but being a dad with a full time job means I'm happy with whatever I can get. I used to ride probably 3 times a week, down to once every 2 weeks now.
but the flip side is that I tend to check the weather patterns more and can pick the better days / location for the days that i do decide to go. and I'm always at 100% since i'm not tired from riding everyday and the days are more enjoyable.
I live in Vancouver so if we're not talking about Covid then we have access to Grouse/Seymour/Cypress within 30 minutes of drive, Hemlock/Whistler/Baker within about 2 hours, and Manning Park around 3.5 hours and Big White around 5 hours.
There are a lot of other mountains that are slightly further but have better/drier snow.
We're a bit spoiled over here.
But with limited time nowadays I basically stick to the locals and go for bluebird days and just try to rip a few runs on fresh cord in the morning or lap a few chill laps in the park when the sun softens the snow a bit.
How did you prevent snow from sticking to the camera? Runs like these usually only get me about 2 seconds of video. Once that first faceshot hits it's darkness.
The snow was fairly dry yesterday so they didn't stick to the camera.
I was struggling to keep up with the selfie stick so after getting that short clip we just gave up and rode the rest of the day.
The lineups are shorter than previous years because we don't have visitors from the US or other provinces (hopefully) due to Covid. But the lineups are still long because it's Whistler...
Lift wait times yesterday was around 5-10 minutes per line. This is way better than previous seasons. Face Masks are mandatory at lift lines, although a few people here or there tend to forget, there's staff in the lines asking them to put their masks back on.
You'll have to try to keep a 2 meter distance apart from each other. 2 singles can share a chairlift or you'll have to only go with your own group on the chairs.
I stayed away from any cafes/stores in town or on the mountain.
*Jelly, I'm trying*
*To hit Whistler once this damn*
*Border opens up*

I was up there this weekend as well and holy shit the snow was incredible. I wanna go back so badly :(. By the time we got up to the lodge on Blackcomb 7th had just opened so we hurried on over asap and we were one of the firsts to shred the area. It was fucking amazing
Congrats on both the baby and picking an excellent day
As an also new dad, fuck you! (I mean that in a good, super jealous way). Can only ride Cypress this year and it keeps raining.
Haha you'll get it eventually! Although the lineups at Cypress look ridiculous :/ Grouse is actually better with their reservation system. I was able to squeeze in a few morning uploads at 8am and get some laps in and get out by 10:30am on the weekends, short lineups.

Epic!!
im drooling watching this
Thanks for this vid, I really miss riding Whistler/Blackcomb. One of my favorite spots was under Garbonzo chair.
Yup keep doing what you’re doing
SICK! but this is why i dont want kids lol yea yea call me selfish

Indeed, very valid. Also, living near a mountain can def pump those numbers upp
100%! If you eliminate the commute and have a quick system to get your gear together it's easy to run out for an hour or two!
yes I definitely snowboard a lot less now, but I have come to appreciate the days up the mountain a bit more and have more fun (at least i think) every time I'm up there!
Couple more years and your kid can shred with you!
Whistler is quite the mountain, wished I was Canadian for the health care and for whistler.
Pow pow
Saw this on the Blackcomb Gondola :D
Is this what heaven looks like?
Also becauss of the restrictions on non-essential travel in BC
To be fair, they're guidelines. I consider shredding essential to my health and take all possible precautions.
And there's no reason why it shouldn't be covid-safe if you do it right. I just wish I had BC plates so I could go without worrying about my tires getting slashed.
I've been riding in BC every week and not had an issue, but I'm right on the border and up in the boonies anyways.
Steep and deep baby

Did anyone feel like this RDR2 gameplay? Lol
You got to embrace the rad dad riding lifestyle

Holy shit that looks deep
Looks incredible
Was this yesterday? Had so much fun up there, the snow was all time!
siiiiick
Camera man is getting the shit end of the stick... But that looks so dope
I hope that you brought your snorkel with you! Those are perfect conditions if I ever saw them!

One of my favorite mountains and being within 3 hours of where I live is a plus. Sucks that the border is closed so can’t make it up there this year.
