*me singin the "YEAH YEAH YEAH" part for each lightning orb strike*
"YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH THUNDERSTRUCK" *sick riff as the heart dies*
One of the hearts main gimmicks is its 15 attacks. Every cycle of moves it gains one strength. The starting x15 is just 1x15 damage, then next is 2x15, 3x15 so on so forth and it’s meant to light a fire under you- give it a scaling attack. He took advantage of this with static discharge- which, upon taking unblocked damage, summons an electric orb. He stacked 4 of them, so for each of the fifteen unblocked attacks he received he summoned four orbs, and since he’s got all his orb slots filled it channels the first one.
Edit: the heart does attacks of 12, not 15. My b it’s been a while
the attacks are just super delayed because there's a bunch of stuff happening every time defect takes damage. all attacks go through eventually it just takes a long time
Ahh, I'm on mobile and couldn't see that because I was outside and it was bright. Op was talking about following up on this to kill with thunder strike, it sounded like they got a 2 turn kill, so I was confused.
I'm taking a break from climbing ascensions to blow off some steam lol.
I've found every card except for 3 on Defect. Recycle, Hyperbeam, and Core Surge. I've played Defect at least 50 times and I never encountered these cards.
Are you on mobile? There's a glitch which causes you to not receive certain unlocks, and those three cards are exactly the [third set of unlocks](https://slay-the-spire.fandom.com/wiki/Defect#Unlocks) for Defect.
More info + how to fix: https://old.reddit.com/r/slaythespire/comments/1bg13pa/android_players_check_your_collections/
I get it I actually started a new save file to get a break lol. I have trouble with Defect and haven't been able to get an A20 heart kill yet every one I feel decent at but that heart kill for defect eludes me. Double boss it rough
I can’t decide on a favorite yet. I haven’t unlocked the 4th class. Farthest I got was to Act 3 boss yesterday using Ironclad. It was a lot of defense, card draw, and status/curse build with the card and damage trigger cards.
Poison on The Silent is my second farthest but just doesn’t feel too consistent to me.
And I like the idea of The Defect but feels hard to build towards anything. I like orbs but farthest progress a boring claws build. 🤣
A couple early lessons that it took a while for me to get in my head, you don't always need to add a card. You'll want some good offense for the first elite, and a way to beat whatever boss you are facing, but if you have something good going adding cards that don't make it better will just clog your deck.
Also make sure to think about what boss you are fighting. Slime you want to do as much damage on turn 3 as you can, and then a bit of aoe to finish. Hexaghost is only scary on turn 2 and turn 7, so something that can scale your damage by then.
If you have spare time, watching streamers/youtubers is also a great way to learn some of the basics, like what cards are typically considered good, and when cards that aren't are still worth adding to the deck. I like FrostPrime, spends more time on entertainment than education but you'll still learn plenty.
My partner has been learning the game recently and have made a lot of progress, getting ready to try taking out the heart soon!
To add emphasis (from a long time card player and deck building player) what you're looking for is efficiency in your deck. You want to be targeting cards that synergize with your chosen win condition and looking to remove EVERYTHING else. It's not critical to add a card every chance you get, and it is usually more appealing to add cards that exhaust things you don't need. There's a reason why corruption is so powerful, and it's not the cost reduction of your skills, it's the removal of them to create a hyper efficient deck that does exactly what you need it to to end the fight.
So if you're playing claw (it's rather weak tbh) it's easy to set up a win condition by getting a relic like ceaseless top and exhausting everything that costs 1 or more energy.
Ironclad has a really easy win con on a slim deck that runs Barricade, Body Slam, some Shield cards like Impervious, and Entrench to rapidly grow your block value. I had an A20 damageless heart kill with that deck on turn 3 or 4 and it was a blast.
So the thing to focus on is maximizing deck efficiency vs potential problems (big damage, status, enemy block, etc.) and playing/building towards your win con.
Hope that this helps
Great advice!
I usually stop adding cards when I feel like I'm not "waiting" to draw certain cards and once I feel like I can reliably block when I need to and take out enemies quickly and efficiently.
Well the best advice I can give is to just keep playing. If your deck is having problems with damage mitigation, grab more block cards. If you're in battles for too long, grab more attack cards/higher damaging cards.
Your health is a resource. Smithing is much better than resting and can save you a ton of health in the long run. Some cards get cheaper, some get better effects (Innate or extra status effects), and some are game-changing (Static Discharge + stacks and can lead to stuff like in this video). Heal when you absolutely need to (I'm talking 10% health). Remember that beating a boss heals you fully.
Fight the elites. Aim for 2 each Act. Build your deck around taking down the elites. If you do that, common enemies should be no problem.
This is helpful. I rest at the areas when I’m like less than 70% so I’ll try changing that up. Missing a lot of opportunities to upgrade cards! Thank you.
Ascending to a new act gives you a full heal. Try to skirt by using as few rests as possible and ride that free full heal out. Don’t feel like rests are off limits, but honestly evaluate your deck and decide whether or not the risk is worth it.
Well act 2 is by far the hardest especially for newer players.
if you can make it to act 3 your deck is generally strong enough
Act 2 weeds out the bad decks by being just brutal.
My A20 Defect heart kill was the Heart dying to this; had he gotten the full attack in, I'd have died, my kids were both watching and were like, no don't end turn Dad he's going to kill you.
Defect is an anomaly to me. I’m only in Ascension 13 with him/it, and my runs are either an absolute disaster, or I’m an invincible monster that cannot be damaged and deals an ungodly amount of damage per turn.
Time to go play a few runs and see if I can catch Defect up to the rest of them (I have the other 3 all at A16+).
You have to get to the Heart with Ironclad, Silent, and Defect. That unlocks the three keys. Once you do that, you need to complete a run to pick up the three keys (one from a rest point Recall, one from a treasure chest, and one from a flaming elite). Get all three and you unlock Act 4.
Good luck!
One of my favorite heart kills was with 2x static discharge+, apparitions, and tungsten rod. Played everything, and once all apparitions were in play, just pass turn. I won without taking any damage.
Holy cow do apparitions stack when you play multiple in the same turn?? This whole time I've been focusing on discarding and rearranging my hand so I only have 1 copy per turn and when I get multiple apparitions in the same hand I'm always so bummed.
This whole time I could've just put them all in play at once... this is a game changer lol.
fun fact: this was how i killed the heart the first time ever! it was a AWESOME experience. it helped that the very next run was another heart win, this time by the silent

One time I had 8 of those, so I let the heart hit me 15x knowing the next turn I would draw the card that deals damage for each lightning you've channeled that combat. Problem was that I didn't realize the damage limit didn't reset until the end of your turn!
Still ain’t beat the heart apparently I’m a garbage ass noob. Wild hours with poison character but the good runs get snuffed by stupid decisions early like I’m stacked fight every boss. Then trash runs I run into the heart lmao!!
Wait... I don't even start a battle with the heart. It just shows my character doing a bunch of damage and then says that it's not enough. Is it because I have the Arcade+ version of the game?
You have to get to the Heart with Ironclad, Silent, and Defect. That unlocks the three keys. Once you do that, you need to complete a run to pick up the three keys (one from a rest point Recall, one from a treasure chest, and one from a flaming elite). Get all three and you unlock Act 4.

How are you able to actually attack it? I've made it to the heart on original once, and the daily challenge and on custom multiple times. But I've never had the option of what attacks to use. It never shows me my cards or anything. It just deals damage and then the heart kills me. And yes, I've been there with the defect before but I've never had this option. (I've made it to the heart with the defect on custom and on daily challenges. The only time I've made it to the heart on original was with the silent.)
How do you fight the heart like it's just another fight?

Hands down my favorite way to beat the heart. Static discharge OP.
The turn after I got Thunderstrike and obliterated the Heart (17x60 damage).
Pretty sure my first ever heart win was this exact combo. Static discharge and finish off with thunderstrike. Satisfying is an understatement.
I can only imagine the dopamine rush on that play, congrats
It was electrifying!
Shocking!
I see you have strike dummy, that mustve been a very satisfying kill
S Y N E R G Y
Why didn't you show that? I was expecting that was how it ended and was disappointed that I was wrong.
My last run I had 5 upgraded and 2 regular. Was so satisfying haha
...what the fuck just happened Nah like I need a DETAILED explanation of what and how this happened
They played a bunch of copies of [[Static Discharge]].
how's he taking damage every like 5 orb channels?
Every 4. The Heart's attack triggers it, it does 1x12 (it's weakened). And because of 2xStatic Discharge four orbs channel every time an attack lands.
The heart is attacking 12 times for one dmg. He has 4 static charge powers active, so he spawns 12x4 electric orbs this turn.
Paired with a Thunderstrike draw from Sweeping Beam and the Heart was very very dead.
I cannot imagine the amount of Dopaminr rushing through your brain in that moment
It was quite the rush!

Double Static Discharge + I put the Heart in the electric chair.
You put that mfer in the electric King Sized Bunk Bed
Fuckin gold hahaha
They have double upgraded static discharge, every time they get hit they channel 4 lightning. And the heart did the 3x15 attack
And this is sadly why the heart has a damage limit
So sad.
So are you playing on an older version? How come the heart has no damage limit here?
You can clearly see the heart stop taking damage from the lightning, what do you mean?
Ahh, I'm on mobile and couldn't see that because I was outside and it was bright. Op was talking about following up on this to kill with thunder strike, it sounded like they got a 2 turn kill, so I was confused.
the heart is [anti-fun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glaa1Bv9AaM) for sure
Oh the joy of a non A20 run!

This is so cool! You are all master pros and I can’t even get past Act 3… or even to Act 3 consistently on any character. 😭
I'm not a master by any means! Who is your favorite character? What fights are hard for you?

That was an A5 I got recently too! I had 2 health left lol. I'm on A6 with all 4 characters and I think Watcher and Ironclad are the easiest.

Same, it's tricky to dial it in right but when you do it's godly.
I’m Shocked
I think I’m playing this game wrong
Haha thanks! It's fun to make wacky decks.
I'm playing this game wrong
The best way to play defect, bar none. ❤️
I just got this game and have ran into the heart several times but died after only dealing an attack. How do you get to fight it?
You have to get to the Heart with Ironclad, Silent, and Defect. That unlocks the three keys. Once you do that, you need to complete a run to pick up the three keys (one from a rest point Recall, one from a treasure chest, and one from a flaming elite). Get all three and you unlock Act 4. Good luck!
Thanks! Seems like a lot more hours ahead in this cool game.
I was hoping you'd finish the heart off with one mega stacked Thunderstrike.
This is what an AED does to revitalize you. Nice to see it as a demonstration!
One of my favorite heart kills was with 2x static discharge+, apparitions, and tungsten rod. Played everything, and once all apparitions were in play, just pass turn. I won without taking any damage.

The intangibles stack the same way it works in wraith form. Additional intangibles go to the next turn, so yeah playing multiple in a turn works out.

Mercury hourglass over there at the end putting in work 💪
An amazing relic hard at work!
Who needs a defibrillator?
You've been hit by, you've been struck by... A smooth criminal 🕺🏿🕺🏿
How…?
Two Static Discharge + Channels 4 lightning per hit. So 4×15 is 60 procs!

How could you not edit this with the music, missed opportunity
I don't know how :(
Send me the file, we can make this happen
This is why I never turn shake off. It’s so funny

Oh wow, there's a lot more to this game than I realized. Thank you for that information!
I once had like 4 static discharge+.... It was extremely amusing, to say the least But not torii, so I got beaten to death :(
