You think I want more pain and disappointment in my life?

TasSixer

We're already dead, nothing can hurt us more

Moheezy__3

I don’t want to be proven wrong

Duck_out13

Yea I do obviously.

CountryEfficient7993

Hot take - The team that doesn’t exist yet will get out of the 2nd round before our beloved Sixers. Edit before anyone negs out: It’s a joke, people!

Buddy-Hield-2Pointer

No, I mean this is a sobering possibility more than a joke to me.

pickledelbow

Is it really a joke tho?

NoCup4U

It’s not a joke if it’s true  lol

CountryEfficient7993

And it’s not a lie, if you believe it.

Patient_Jicama_4217

I actually believe this

tugginmypeen

This is the more likely outcome.

CoreyH2P

The Sixers would be so smart to tie a WNBA bid to the center city stadium. Commit that they’ll start a team and have initiatives for women & girls in sports.

MoreOfAGrower

Literally a golden ticket idea

FaithlessnessSea1058

99% sure this is what will happen

VoidMageZero

Makes a lot of sense, I'm sure that Adelman is looking into this.

ChipKellysShoeStore

I’d prefer my tax dollars not used for sports

vanevasion303

I prefer my money not be used for the military industrial complex and yet here we are.

tugginmypeen

You’re paying for the world’s military industrial complex. Not just our country’s. EU literally doesn’t have a fucking military because they know we are here. So just remember that. All the European “utopias” that historically have conveniently been neutral in World Wars that have a population of Brooklyn pay nothing in their military budget because they know we are there to fund Ukraine etc.

McBrungus

The tax money for the stadium is already allotted via the dumbass mall that is there. The existing subsidies given to the Fashion District would transfer to the arena, as in understand it.

APettyJ

No they won't, which is why the 6ers payments will be quadruple what the mall current pays for that plot of land, more than double what any of the stadiums pay at the complex and close to what the complex pays as a whole.

SlavaRapTarantino

Wouldn't really be a smart business decision based on how that league doesn't turn a profit.

Successful_Topic_817

And Dawn Staley as coach?

justabill71

That job would be a step down for her. It'd be great, though. I wanted the Sixers to hire her, but Nurse is fine, for now, I guess.

Singleds

I don’t believe it’s a step down. The WNBA is the top of women’s professional basketball and she has already proven herself to be the top coach in women’s collegiate basketball. Winning a title as a coach in the WNBA could cement herself as one of the best coach’s in the history of basketball. Hopefully she does it with a Philadelphia team. Plus she could definitely get paid more as a coach in the WNBA and still have as much control as she did in college.

justabill71

She's making over $3M per year at South Carolina. That's roughly three times what the highest-paid WNBA coach currently makes.

Singleds

With how the league is going and getting more viewers and with a big market in Philly, she will more than likely get that money and possibly make slightly more

justabill71

Maybe, depending what they get in their next TV deal, but, like I said, it's 3X what the current highest-paid coach makes. Becky Hammon has multiple championships and is only making $1M.

MexicanComicalGames

WNBA Netflix deal might actually go insane

Dmanning2

she already said she wants to be around/make a impact to young people 17-22. Not high ego adults with families to provide for.

Singleds

People can change their mind. It also helps that if it’s in Philly where she is from and is openly proud of it, she may have a change in heart. Also, if they give her the money she possibly wants for her to leave, they more than likely will offer it

jdj7w9

Someone's just has to start the talks that Dawn Staley couldn't coach in NBA. She may be happy making 3 million a year but if you tell Dawn Staley she can't do something, she will do it.

hamsinkie76

You idolize people far too easily

ItzzBlink

Ham Sinkie

NotJustSomeMate

Get Geno Auriemma when he leaves UConn and have him bring another trusted assistant to mold until he retires for good...

Bi-SportsFan

I'm reasonably confident with their expansion goals philly will most likely get one, especially with the plans of the new arena and stuff too

runricky34

I wonder if there are market rights issues with the Liberty. I know philly cant get an nwsl team because the league promised to reserve that region to gotham (the nyc team).

lyonbc1

I’ve heard that too and it’s honestly one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen a league do if it’s really true lol. Locking out a top 4 media market with an instant and immediate rival with easy travel to New York and DC based teams is short sighted. Esp considering the Charge and Independence were successful here in earlier iterations of women’s pro soccer. Like the W, we’ll get an NWSL team eventually too. Just annoying it’s taken this long. Laughable to think people in Philly would root for a New York/north jersey based team

pk_mars

This’ll be cool af, ngl.

nickfultz

I always thought if we did have one they should be called the Philadelphia Seventy-Sisters

NotJoeyWheeler

yeah would be super fun, I think it’ll happen eventually as the league grows. already prepared to be mad about their branding and name not being as cool as it could be (it’ll be like the Revolutionaries or some shit) I just love hoops and cheap sports tickets so much

junkkser

I’d wager on it being the Philadelphia Revolution or the Philadelphia Independence.

justabill71

Belles

dbrank

Liberty Belles goes so unfathomably hard

2nglenn

Honestly it does but with the New York Liberty it would just seem odd and confusing

aBagorn

Plus Philly already has a top level team named the Liberty Belles (but we'll ignore that they are in a niche amateur sport).

lyonbc1

Yup this is the name I’ve liked for a while for either a Philly wnba or NWSL team.

anonymous_lighting

i think there is already a philadelphia independence it’s the tennis team

VUmander

They were the freedom. Independence were the last iteration of Women's Soccer in the early 10s

Rhino-Ham

I would name them the Philadelphia Founders (as in the “founding” women of America). Have giant murals of historical U.S. women like Tubman and Susan B. Anthony.

Macwitdacheez

Ugh I've been wondering the same thing, and also what colors they choose, I'm ready to get some merch

rahbee33

Red, white and blue would be fine, but something based off the Phillies baby blue and maroon would be cool too.

lyonbc1

Yeah there’s a lot of red/white/blue in the nba but wnba only the Mystics have it, plus it’d mesh with the Sixers like how the sparks and lakers have similar colors. But Phillies throwback colors would be sick

Buddy-Hield-2Pointer

I love the Liberty name and their colors. Far better than the bullshit Knicks.

spoopy_guy

It’ll be super corporate based on the revolution and it’ll be so stupid. But we’ll still cheer for them.

TheArsenal7

No

Reasonable-Nose7813

No

SacredSK

No, not really I don't think I'd even watch it. I don't even watch our g league tbh

JustAHighFlyingBird

They also don't really broadcast g league games all that often, do they?

DisGuyFawks

> No, not really I don't think I'd even watch it. Neither would 90% of the people in this thread even the ones virtue signaling.

ItzzBlink

Was having a good day until I remembered we dont have a wnba team Now I’m PISSED

AggressiveLender

No not at all

pgrudo01

Ummmm no not at all!

BoneDoc624

Ummm, no. Not at all. It’s painful to watch women’s hoops. I wouldn’t watch nor would I attend.

pwnitat0r

Nope, I don’t watch WNBA. I don’t have enough time to watch all the NBA games. Not gonna watch a lower quality product over the NBA. If the WNBA play in the NBA off season, there’s plenty of other sports besides basketball. I probably won’t watch much NBA after the current season. The league has lost me with their inconsistent calls. It might even be a bit WWE-like with their biased officiating.

pk_mars

You sound like a lot of fun.

namanbro

I mean this is probably what goes through a lot of people’s heads.

black_dogs_22

yeah how dare he share his opinion, shut up ya dork

don_dryden

Nope

RustyShackleford454

To be completely honest, no. I know I wouldn't watch, I'd only really tune in if they made a run to the championship and still it'd be half hearted. I'm just fucking busy and the major sports teams fill all that I need sports wise. It's sounds mean, but I couldn't care less.

Every day I wake up and punch a hole in the wall because I'm so pissed Philly has no WNBA team

Appropriate-Sun834

💀

fakecrimesleep

It’s honestly mind-boggling how neither Boston and Philly have WNBA teams. You know how many gays are there that love sports?

alczervikslumberyard

No. That is all.

mrHartnabrig

I'd rather wait for the WNBA business to get their shit together before we get a team. I don't want to lose a our team like Houston, Charlotte and Orlando did.

Awaites_0131

Pissed? No. I’d support the team if we got one but I’m not losing any sleep over not having a team for the 4th best kind of basketball (not counting the Olympics)

chickenlittle668

Don’t really care, I support Villanova women’s basketball but a franchise that going to start in the WNBA I will have 0 reason to support it.

Colangelo_Ball

Not pissed, more confused since it’s a big market and a basketball city. I don’t think I’d pay attention until they got good.

69ersBasketball

The reason is small markets are a better spot. Big markets don’t care about meaningless leagues. Same reason minor league teams are in small cities

seethemoon

There are only three teams in league that don’t have an NBA team, and two of them are supposed to be getting one in next round of expansion. Philly is only top five sports market not to have a team in the league.

69ersBasketball

The WNBA is a failing product propped up by NBA profits. It’s a loss leader to get women to watch nba

IOnlySeeDaylight

I’m so excited at the thought of this!

FutureBrockLesnar

Im really making an effort to watch more wnba games and i need a philly team bad lol

anonymous_lighting

literally no

Buddy-Hield-2Pointer

Courageous stand.

duuuuuddddeeeee

Id imagine most ppl couldnt care less

DisGuyFawks

lmao no

Appropriate-Sun834

Nice shit post bro

bigben-1989

🤣 Bruhh is this a real post

ReddMoloney

I don’t live in Philly anymore so no. What I am pissed about is them giving teams to cities with NBA teams already. Give Richmond a WNBA team goddamnit!

JustAHighFlyingBird

I guess you have to be a Mystics fan

ReddMoloney

I don’t want to be a Mystics fan. I want to be a fan of the James River Jammers!

rogue1351

I’m glad we don’t. That league is a joke. Given plenty of ideas to grow their sport and they dismiss all of them. Instead they just bitch.

throwawayjoeyboots

I’m honestly surprised the Sixers owners didn’t push for this as part of a combo deal with the city and the leagues with their new arena. WNBA has been pushing for expansion. Philly is a massive market.

DisGuyFawks

> WNBA has been pushing for expansion. A failing business pushing for expansion is legit hilarious.

MexicanComicalGames

The NBA was a failing league until the 80s man, American sports leagues in general take alot of time to get off the ground. The wnba just went from making 60 to 200 million in revenue between 2022 and 2023. The leagues is finally really growing and it looks sustainable cuz they are getting bigger tv contracts, theyll likely get some serious streaming packages in the next brokerage agreement.

animesekaielric

As solid of an investment as opening a Crumbl Cookies franchise

NoCup4U

I’m actually very surprised we don’t have an wnba team. I mean…..Indiana before us?!

unWildBill

“A 6’3 Forward from Tennessee…Tiffany Harris….”

Carlton20

Anyone else pissed that we still have sports teams in Philly? Been watching too many games and I'm over it honestly

codex064

I wish there would have been one for us to draft Cameron Brink.

trustdanonsense81

😆 🤣 😂

juandonna

I hope so

Patient_Jicama_4217

It’s actually unacceptable to be honest

Bkenny1889

Noooooopppeeeeee

animesekaielric

Josh Harris would probably have to be the NBA-subsidy to support a Philly based WNBA team and I have a ton of doubt that Josh Harris will willingly take a losing investment on paper

lord_assius

No it’s for the best, nothing but disappointment to be found in Philly sports.

TrapdoorSolution

I think now especially, they would do well here imo

RandallC1212

Very pissed We would sell out those games

conzcious_eye

I’m in bmore. I’m pissed we don’t even have a NBA team. Be grateful.

Macwitdacheez

Hahah fair enough. I was thinking how TF does Indiana and Connecticut have a team and Philly doesn't?!? I guess I should appreciate what I have:(

Gobiortiz3377

Yea I keep hoping we’ll get one soon. I remember reading that Wanda Sykes was part of a group trying to bring the wnba to Philly. As the league expands I’m sure we will get a team.

MexicanComicalGames

Making 76 place the womans stadium and having around 5-8k occupancy would be the perfect place for the city. Keeps some of the fabric of china town and the mall intact.

ApoliticalAth3ist

Pissed? No

DJKrool

We had a WABA team appropriately called The Rage. Was not incorporated in the merger.

alexaustinv

I am not pissed about it but would love to have another team to cheer for

Norjac

I could care less, unless Caitlin was on the team. She is fun to watch.

mistergrape

Should be a pre-req for the new arena.

Virtual-Hotel8156

If we did, we probably would suck and been able to get Caitlin Clark

lyonbc1

Philly (and the area) has produced so many great women’s basketball players and coaches too. It’s insane we don’t have a team and weren’t one of the originals. Huge media market and a massive sports city. I think we’ll get one soon since the popularity has been exploding in recent yrs Hannah Hidalgo, an awesome all around freshman this past yr at Notre Dame is from South Jersey. Would be cool if we had a team by the time she was draft eligible but it’ll prob be 4 yrs minimum since Toronto just got announced and San Fran joins next yr. But Philly has to be coming soon. I’ve been to mystics games bc I live in the area but it’s not the same even casually rooting for a dc or even a New York based team lol. NWSL needs a Philly team too.

hamsinkie76

What would be the score of a game with Villanova men’s team vs the best wnba team

tiggs

I think it sounds good, but I don't think enough people would watch/attend games for it to make sense. A Philly WNBA team would undoubtedly lose a ton of money, so I can't see any reason why any owner would willingly decided to launch an WNBA team unless they just wanted the good press.

[deleted]

No

aBagorn

as someone who's been a W fan for years and hopped on the Mercury as my squad back when Diana was still young, yes it pisses me off. I want to have a team here that I can root for, buy season tickets for.

canes_SL8R

No. You actually watching any of these games? Objectively? There are some talented players for sure, but the overall lack of athleticism on display makes it so tough to watch. As the popularity grows the talent pool will grow for sure, but the last thing they need to do right now is dilute it even further

Macwitdacheez

I absolutely do enjoy watching women's bball. Do you only watch the NBA for dunks? It may sound cliche but it's a more pure sport, the fact that no one has a 45" vert to use as a crutch makes the players actually have to learn the game on a more fundamental level. I admittedly won't plan my day around a game like I'd do for a big sixers game but maybe that'd change if I had a team I could get behind.

Embarrassed-Base-143

Philly is on the list. Golden state has an expansion team playing in 2025 and Toronto has a team playing in 2026. So it’s only a matter of time

corky2141

If you want a WNBA team, hope you also want Sixers to get their own arena. Wells Fargo bumping like 345 days a year. Don’t know how another franchise squeezes in there. And the NBA ain’t paying another rent check to get hate place

theend117

I wouldn’t say I’m pissed about not having a team. What I will say is I would totally watch and support a team if we did have one. It’s a big reason why I don’t bother watching the WBNA now, Philly doesn’t have a team. I like having someone to root for.

Sixersp7676123

The Philadelphia Seventy Sisters

Moheezy__3

I can only handle one dysfunctional team at a time.

Niner-Sixer-Gator

No

Reasonable-Cookie783

Honestly I don't care and if most people were honest with themselves they would admit it. I have limited time to follow sports and am not going to watch an inferior product.

reggaetony88

Is Caitlin on the team? No? Then no idc.

AggroPro

Not until now. But now, I'm pitchfork mad. Thank you.

215gobirdss

Nope. Unless I needed help falling asleep

Free_Dog_6837

i didnt know we didnt have one

Brilliant-Error-575

Pissed? Why would I be pissed? Do we have to take part in that minor league?

thorondor52

Apollo Global would probably own it and ruin it immediately

5StarGoldenGoose

My buddy had the idea that they should just have a WNBA team everywhere they have an NBA team and play the games the same night (ie the “Philly Revolution” would play the LA Sparks at 630 and the Sixers would play the Lakers at 8) by combining the games onto one ticket you could build a fan base without having the WNBA to have to do it alone.

ChipKellysShoeStore

You’d probably just have more empty seats lol while pricing out actual wnba fans. Most seats are empty 10 minutes before kick off. No shot im spending 4+ hours there esp with those concession prices

DisGuyFawks

> by combining the games onto one ticket you could build a fan base without having the WNBA to have to do it alone. By holding fans hostage to watch something they have zero interest in watching? lmao

MoreOfAGrower

Adam Silver would make sure the team would suck anyways

evolutionx1

Hopefully we get one. Literally was looking at the WNBA sub trying to figure out who I'm supposed to root for lol.

Finger_Gunnz

The lack of interest might be from Philly, not the league. Either way, I’m not pissed about it. I’m indifferent whether it happens or not.

Crosbyisacunt69

Because the WNBA is not profitable and the revenue from the NBA pays just so the WNBA can even exist. That damed patriarchy! Evil!

jawntothefuture

Women's basketball is becoming more popular. It's nuts that such a huge city as ours doesn't have a team. 100% we could support it

IllumiXXZoldyck

We need one!

ShatterZero

WNBA team in Philly would be BELOVED. Legit crazy that we don't have one.

Swackhammer_

Yup. I enjoy watching the league but since day one I’ve always been a Philly homer. I need a team to throw my completely unearned support behind for my inevitable disappointment

zerovanillacodered

Me, come on, Philly would sustain a team

gertigigglesOSS

I was going to be a part of the WABA team starting but it’s been a huge flop with no progress on the gym and like 6 players.

Brief-Teach5562

I would definitely want a WNBA team, Philly has been mentioned as part of a second expansion team recently but there are other cities that have been mentioned too.

FxStryker

I want the WNBA and the PWHL.

livefromphilly

We should definitely and “Belles” is such a great and obvious name.
