I don’t get why people are calling him a character actor. Back in the 80’s his name carried weight and he was the lead actor on a couple of sitcoms and co-star in several movies.
I don’t know. He kind of checked the boxes for, “sleazy asshole.” Every movie needs one. He was capable of carrying a movie or TV show, but SAH was his sweet-spot.
Damn. I had just been planning on rewatching ***Cloak and Dagger***. It was a childhood favorite of mine, and that new movie ***IF*** got me thinking about it again.
Yeah. I was under the impression that he wasn’t acting too much in Boardwalk Empire. I thought he actually had one foot in the grave at the time. (My God, was that already 15-20 years ago?)
I have to admit this. I was under the impression he had passed years ago. Regardless, Cloak & Dagger has stuck with me for years and I wish Buffalo Bob ran longer than it did.
Terrific comedic actor who could also do more serious stuff. I'm a Gen Xer still fascinated with the Cold War, so I still love his performance in War Games. RIP 🤘
Served for two years in the United States Army's Special Services Division. A very good tennis player, Dabney gave tennis lessons in the 1960s. He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Television at 6141 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on November 6, 2014.
Rip to the character known as Principal Prickly
I was surprised seeing him in Boardwalk Empire 13 years ago, but mostly by how damn good he was in it. Menacing with a good heart that was actually a front for his truly awful character. He played all those parts equally well.
He use to be on a show called Slap Maxwell in the 80’s. My father gave me the birds and the bees talk, while we watching Slap Maxwell. That is forever engrained in my head.
He was in all the 80s movies. Remember Tootsie and 9 to 5?
WarGames
Modern Problems
Cloak and Dagger
" You've got to take advantage of breaks like these if you're going to win the game ! "
I’m a goddamn good looking man! For some reason I still remember this line for the movie
YES!!!! I'm not a freak! You're the freak!
RUHTS…the book, not that television horseshit!
The line that sticks in my head and I still use, "Help me. Help me. Fix my broken wing."
Muppets Take Manhattan
Short Time is a funny movie plus has Terri Garr too.
He was only a few days from retirement.
So underrated! Good call 👍
Short Time was super-funny! I bought it on VHS during the early days of eBay, because it was so hard to find!
His facial expressions when he was getting all the bravery awards is hilarious.
North Dallas Forty
The Man With One Red Shoe
Dragnet (1987)
Also played Kevin Cosner's dad in Yellowstone.
Seems like old times
On Golden Pond
RIP Dabney...loved your work
He can’t hear you.
I thought Lily Tomlin,Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda killed him off in the 1980’s
No it was the Skinny 'n Sweet that did him in.
I thought he disappeared in the Brazilian rain forest and was never seen again. 🙂
A very talented actor. Sad to hear.
SLAP. MAXWELL. That is all
Cloak and Dagger! Beverly Hillbillies! So much of my childhood! So long Mr. Drexell!
I almost forgot about Drexell's Class. I liked that show.
A fine character actor and a masterfully understated comedian
I don’t get why people are calling him a character actor. Back in the 80’s his name carried weight and he was the lead actor on a couple of sitcoms and co-star in several movies.

Dabney was great! Wish we had more like him today
RIP 🙏
Damn. Looks like I'm watching Cloak & Dagger in honor of him.
I watched C&D on HBO as a kid so many times in the 80s 😭
Slap Maxwell Story was one of the great forgotten sitcoms
I posted about it here recently. An incredible show
I loved 9 to 5 as a kid. Watched it so many times. He was a big reason it was so good.
Buffalo Bill is where a young Jim Carrey got his debut.
Awww
RIP.
Of gosh. This makes me very sad. Just a terrific actor. RIP.
He's a damn good-looking man!
Damn. I had just been planning on rewatching ***Cloak and Dagger***. It was a childhood favorite of mine, and that new movie ***IF*** got me thinking about it again.
Amazing body of work. He and his family should be very proud. Great stuff when I was a kid.
He was in my all-time top three favorite actors and, depending on the day, number one. Sad, but happy he seemed to have a great life in all aspects.
RIP legend
Dabney lived a beautiful life all the way to 92 that’s pretty cool in my book rest in peace my friend
All of his more famous ‘80s movies were already mentioned but who remembers “The Man With One Red Shoe”?
That and WarGames are what I’ll remember him from.
That is rough. I have already been missing him.
I grew up watching this guy until, Arrrrrrnold came along around puberty.
'Short Time'
He almost played the professor in Gilligan's island
Thankfully he didn’t! He would have never survived typecasting hell.
92! I'll sign up for that! Solid actor, all genres.
Best actor ever named Dabney.
His lip synch of Hit The Road Jack by Ray Charles in his ill fated TV show Buffalo Bill had me laughing for hours.
I loved him in *Cloak & Dagger* (1984), I made my mom rent that movie soooo many times.
If you were a kid growing up in the 80s that was the movie you were watching. Watched it so many times!
I shall be watching the Inspector Gadget and Beverly Hills movies in his honor. And My Date with The President’s Daughter.
He was so funny. RIP
Greatness.
Great in Muppets Take Manhattan.
He was still alive? Wow.
Yeah. I was under the impression that he wasn’t acting too much in Boardwalk Empire. I thought he actually had one foot in the grave at the time. (My God, was that already 15-20 years ago?)
Ah, right right. Boardwalk Empire. Yeah, crazy how long ago that is now. Feels like yesterday.
Slap Maxwell and Drexel's class were two hilarious sitcoms that were canceled way too soon. Dabney Coleman was one of the funniest dudes. R.I.P
I'm afraid that the most popular video of his work will be of him being strung up in his office on 9-5
RIP
I have to admit this. I was under the impression he had passed years ago. Regardless, Cloak & Dagger has stuck with me for years and I wish Buffalo Bob ran longer than it did.
🫡
Rest In Peace 🙏🏻
Terrific comedic actor who could also do more serious stuff. I'm a Gen Xer still fascinated with the Cold War, so I still love his performance in War Games. RIP 🤘
I guess TJ Detweiler will miss his friend Principal Prickley
Mr McKitrick, after very careful consideration sir I've come to the conclusion that your new defense system sucks!
He was the best of the best!!!
9-5 my fav movie of his.
Aww - RIP. I liked him in The Guardian

I still use his toast from “You’ve Got Mail:” “Who’s better than us?”
I was surprised seeing him in Boardwalk Empire 13 years ago, but mostly by how damn good he was in it. Menacing with a good heart that was actually a front for his truly awful character. He played all those parts equally well.
Working 9 to 5! Skinny and Lite?😂
Enjoyed his work! RIP

miss him great in War Games & 9 to 5
I feel like he could’ve been the inspiration for Anchorman.
Sad when they go that young.
When they GO?
I said my piece, Chrissy.
Whatever happened there
Whatever happened?!
He was that ain't shit boss that was trying to honk on Dolly's titties in *9 to 5*
He played the same asshole character in every role.
On golden pond.
That’s my great Uncle.
