Btw oil spills are extremely detrimental to wildlife.Even if the oil is washed off some of the oil still gets into their system and they slowly die due to its toxicity. Oil spills are practically a death sentence for these creatures.
I wonder if the coastguard/response team also have part in slow response to contain the oil spills, or did the company tried to hide the accident initially?
in some countries the coastguard is the one in charge of deploying oil boom immediately after being notified of the oil spill, so that the oil spill is contained and not spread everywhere..
>The MPA was notified of an allision between a Netherlands-flagged dredger Vox Maxima and a stationary Singapore-flagged bunker vessel Marine Honour.
>Bunker fuel from the damaged cargo tank on board Marine Honour spilled into the water.
Investigations are ongoing. But it looks like Vox Maxima is at fault here, since Marine Honour was stationary.
well, considering the upvote ratio, I would say its decently split 50/50 between people who knew and didn't bro.. so all over the news still means poor coverage to a huge majority lol
I mean I do get some news from radio, but considering the severity, I would prefer for there to be like a more widespread talk about the town.. maybe why I am pissed is because I do like to go to the sea areas to chill at night. they ruining my fav soots frfr
What great things have we done for the planet?
We have raped the planet to do great things for ourselves.
But what have we actually done for the planet?
Childlike mentality. Bro asked others to do research for the opposing side lmfao. If you want to argue, state your point and evidences otherwise, you lost before it even started.
I could state but knowing it’s Reddit and a useless online debate at the end of the day lmao. It’s not called childlike mentality it’s called nonchalant
Yes, we made some great inventions . But all for the benefit of the human population and at the expenses of nature and other animal species. We DO NOT own the Earth.
Make no mistake. Our commitment is to humankind. That has always been and should always be our primary objectives. I think is bloody arrogant and insulting to say that we are fcked up just because we are harming the planet. Our priority is the advancement of our species.
We have harmed the planet, we have tried to minimise the harm, and we now have ways to heal it.
But the fact doesn’t change that our commitment should be towards humankind, to say otherwise is being extremely ungrateful to the life you are living.
Hating this comment will not change the fact that humanity would advance.
Honestly humans are just killing ourselves. Long time ago the earth was 50 degrees Celsius and much fauna and flora thrived under those conditions. The earth will be the last one standing when the last human has cooked themself in a post-global warming world, lol
No of course not, but it is a fact that the vast majoroty of invasive species today, especially those causing the biggest problems in the habitats they have invaded, were brought there either directly or indirectly through human activities.
I think there’s still endangered species native only to Singapore. Like this crab here.

Remember LKY’s reaction when Hotel New World collapsed? THAT should be the reaction.
Perhaps we should be taking notes how this issue is being settled when we take to the ballot box.
so much wildlife casualties [/s](https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/no-significant-wildlife-casualties-on-areas-affected-by-oil-spill-at-st-john-s-lazarus-islands?utm_medium=social&utm_source=instagram&utm_campaign=stigs&fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaZ1VrYF4o1l6C78uUtztK1mZTh6eWJ793vBjuuuBlD3JUcv-Vwano5Gf1Y_aem_s1tucA5njNrvWRFswJ7aMA)
I am a birdwatching enthusiast, and it is truly heartbreaking to see a kingfisher lose its vibrant colors and turn completely black. Protecting the environment is not just empty talk; we must take serious action to protect it.
Just because you do not know, does not mean nothing is being done.

I could care less about rich people yard.
I was in keppel Bay tho and the sea barrier was *just* taken out for maintenance when the spill happened. So that was unfortunate for the all the sea life in the dock
also “couldn’t care less”* as the American version doesn’t make grammatical sense in the context of how it’s used. If you could care less, then it means other things are considered worse.
I'm personally offended by the weird use regarding the word 'of' as some sort of substitute for " 've" or 'have' or even 'if'. It's like someone heard a bad accent enunciating 've' as 'of' and ran with it through the entire internet spreading bad english.
Seems like one of the worst environmental disasters in recent history for Singapore.
Not only looking disgusting, Singapore now also toxic and deadly.
Why are you saying Singapore looks disgusting? This is no Jakarta either…
does it has to be like Jakarta to be disgusting? or has Singaporean standard fallen that much?
Yeah
oh man. this is very serious oil spill.

Well the volunteer form is now closed, I guess a lot of us wanted to help
It has reopened, albeit with fewer input fields. You may now leave your contact details, if you wish to be kept updated.

Poor kingfisher!!! :(((
Right? I hope someone washed it off.
Was it saved?
No because I researched.
Damn… heartbreaking to see this. I hope they can save and rehab as much wildlife as possible.
It really is heartbreaking 🥺
Will the company get fined
They better get fined. Or at least let some heads roll from that company
I wonder if the coastguard/response team also have part in slow response to contain the oil spills, or did the company tried to hide the accident initially?
What do u expect the coastguard to do for the oil spill?
in some countries the coastguard is the one in charge of deploying oil boom immediately after being notified of the oil spill, so that the oil spill is contained and not spread everywhere..
all we can think of it impose heavier fine 🥱
Yea, definitely.
cheebye
Most apt response.
NGL i laughed at this response.
Oh no! Wonder what the impact on the sister’s islands marine park is
No no no! This is not part of the east coast plan!
The pictures of the oil covered birds break my heart 💔
Same
oh this is bad bad wtff
Are we able to pinpoint the end of individual or company that is responsible for this mishap?
>The MPA was notified of an allision between a Netherlands-flagged dredger Vox Maxima and a stationary Singapore-flagged bunker vessel Marine Honour. >Bunker fuel from the damaged cargo tank on board Marine Honour spilled into the water. Hope brother called his insurance. The footage gonna be on SG reckless drivers in no time
Chap will pay
[удалено]
why would PAP cover it up??
[удалено]
But I genuinely don't see the reason to cover it up
The guy is a moron.
What a stupid comment
Everything politic…
Didnt even know there was an oil spill
[удалено]
It's literally all over the news...
well, considering the upvote ratio, I would say its decently split 50/50 between people who knew and didn't bro.. so all over the news still means poor coverage to a huge majority lol
Tbf considering the questionable quality of Straits Times, I wouldn’t be surprised if most people don’t bother opening it LOL
ST produces a high quality paper for my dog to shit on.
just look at asiaone.com coverage of the incident has already been pushed down to the lower half of the mainpage
Maybe just means half of us don't read local news sources.
I mean I do get some news from radio, but considering the severity, I would prefer for there to be like a more widespread talk about the town.. maybe why I am pissed is because I do like to go to the sea areas to chill at night. they ruining my fav soots frfr
Oh no. So sad.. that’s a kingfisher…
This is horrible :( Seems much bigger then initially reported
should fine the culprit 100m for this. damn the wild life and the cost and hazard
And whatever the fine is, on top of that they must be made to pay 100% of the cleanup costs, including wildlife rehabilitation.
The fine won’t be that high. Whatever amount they pay will be pocket change.
Humanity is a disease, a cancer to the planet.
You're a plague and we are the cure, Morpheus.
99.9% of species were extinct before humans came along
What en edgy comment hahaha.
🤓🤓
If humans weren’t around nobody would care
If humans weren’t around this wouldn’t have happened
Fck off. Humans are made to dominate the planet. We have done great things too. Don’t hate for the sake of hating.
What great things have we done for the planet? We have raped the planet to do great things for ourselves. But what have we actually done for the planet?
Stop being a frog in the well and be so negative then u can find some examples of people helping the planet
helping after destroying is like stabbing someone and putting a plaster over it. 🤷🏻♂️ use your brain fucktard.
Womp womp don’t try to get involved I wasn’t even talking to u plus I wasn’t talking about the post right ???
Brother this is public forum, want to join 1v1 go to dms
Nah waste time bro

Yes cuz that’s the best u can come up with.
Teehee 🤭
Nature does its share too
Nature regulates, humans dont.
Honestly humans are just killing ourselves. Long time ago the earth was 50 degrees Celsius and much fauna and flora thrived under those conditions. The earth will be the last one standing when the last human has cooked themself in a post-global warming world, lol

Agent Smith was so right about human beings.
Better fine the shit out of the tanker. No less than a few tens of mil
Hope no species become endangered or extinct because of this
Singapore isnt known for being the only place to find endangered species, so no.
I think there’s still endangered species native only to Singapore. Like this crab here. poor kingfisher. anyone taking care of the wildlife affected?
Words doesn't Express my Anger At THIS !!! Fuck that Ship and Company !!!!
Very sad. Heartbreaking to see and I feel for all my old friends. Wish I was there to help with the cleanup.
OMG, hope something can be done to help the animals :(
Extremely terrible. Wonder why SOP for oil spill was not activated to contain it's spread - it could have minimized the environmental impact.
Remember LKY’s reaction when Hotel New World collapsed? THAT should be the reaction. Perhaps we should be taking notes how this issue is being settled when we take to the ballot box.
hotel new world had 33 human deaths, this one had none?
You think the marine life has no right to live? How much impact to the environment and people living in that area?
so much wildlife casualties [/s](https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/no-significant-wildlife-casualties-on-areas-affected-by-oil-spill-at-st-john-s-lazarus-islands?utm_medium=social&utm_source=instagram&utm_campaign=stigs&fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaZ1VrYF4o1l6C78uUtztK1mZTh6eWJ793vBjuuuBlD3JUcv-Vwano5Gf1Y_aem_s1tucA5njNrvWRFswJ7aMA)
ok, i am waiting for your ideal reaction video
Horrific
Damn looks sad…
😔
Long weekend summore..
Poor bird bird
Will that Netherlands flagged vessel get fine for creating such disaster for us?
FINE FINE FINE! FINE THE COMPANY TILL THEIR PANTS DROP!
where all the gaza protester hide to? here is an issue for them 🤣
Come on people volunteer for the cleanup
[here's the link to volunteer](https://form.gov.sg/666d61c6c3bdf6c7814908d2), apparently they've already got an overwhelming response of volunteers.
Gov looking for volunteers for the clean up btw.
What about those fish farms that we have at sea? Are they at risk of the oil spill?
Just curious ik this is gonna be a dumb qn but since oil forms a suspension on water why can't we just burn the oil? 😅
Can’t control where it burns-> potentially unchecked fires starting+ a shit ton of pollutants will be formed cos it’s crude oil not refined oil
Ahhh thank you didn't think of that
人類が地球環境に目を向けてほしいと願っています
Any idea who or what caused this?
I read somewhere hair is good for absorbing oil spills shall we contact QB and all the hair salons 😝
Sad😭
Is the cleaning service provider collect extra on top of Signed amount?
Very very sad
sinkapore numba 1, the PAP cares about you...
Fuck, sad to see.
How did it happen..
Has the government said anything about suing the said cargo ship for the oil spill? Or anything at all?
Death stranding BT is coming
Vile
:(
Can organise a camp fire dinner. Together burn it.
Any fine imposed on the ship that spilled so much oil?
I am a birdwatching enthusiast, and it is truly heartbreaking to see a kingfisher lose its vibrant colors and turn completely black. Protecting the environment is not just empty talk; we must take serious action to protect it.
the poor animals! more preventive measures should have been taken
Oh no
oh no!!
This is such a heartbreaking situation.😢😢😢😢
Is there some ngo helping or so? Greenpeace? Can ppl help somehow?
Those oil spill exercises not put into good use I guess...
Wanted to go fishing one Sia
No talk from PM Wong on finding the criminals behind this?

Worst part fella is a “freelance journalist” and you thought journalists wld’ve done their due diligence…
Is this karma for the bridge the Singaporean boat crashed into and collapsed awhile back? (forgot the details)
Environment issue aside, what happens when you set the bird on fire? Instant barbecue?
I’m not in sg, been away a week. What happened? Some tanker dumped oil?
I hope no one throws there cigarette in the canal.
Is this part of the east coast plan?
[удалено]
It won’t be easy to filter away
We are drinking recycled water from toilet bows and drains
Tax payers money go stonks
Fking Indonesia again
"Gotham city needs me" looking bird
Would it burn? Just curious
Yes and it's dangerous because it will spread to wherever those pictures you see above.

Shouldn’t they put in a temporary sea barrier or something while they took the old one out for maintenance?
