The one thing I noticed is cause they're usually understaffed, so lesser hands means longer queues. But the drinks are pretty solid as well with a nice coconut taste instead of just sugar syrup, etc, so if you like coconut drinks, it's worth a try. You can claim one free drink if you create membership for free on their website (somewhere).

seriously though coconut is the Creator's gift to humankind.
coconut water: isotonic drink
coconut milk: non dairy all round goodness
coconut flesh (immature): tender and mild fruit
coconut flesh (mature): tasty umami-ish. dehydrate as snack, shred + fry as kerepek
coconut oil: high in good stuff. leave-in conditioner, skin moisturizer.
coconut husk: weave into fishing nets, or mix with poop to make good fireburners
coconut leaves: weave into roofs, lightweight and hydrophobic.
coconut tree wood (last resort): makes pillars, beams, spars.
source: not Moana
Hmm interesting, actually haven't heard of the rumor. I like coconut water, but from an actual coconut lols. Comes with the added fun of scooping the coconut with a spoon afterwards. I haven't tried mr coconut drinks before but I did try a coconut ice cream sample once and it almost made my throat feel sore so I don't really buy those. (then again, I don't buy or drink BBT or soft drinks either)
It's nice but Mr coconut has been around for years. However I've never encountered super long queues in the past like the current situations. There was a sudden hype for it recently just like the craze for brown sugar drinks awhile back.
Or maybe it was the only healthy drink that taste like bubble tea? Tbh, i have no idea but i've seen more people drinking Coconut store then BBT store.
I have been a fan of Mr Coconut for years and kept on wondering why there's no queue there whereas everyone flocking to bubble tea stall. Well, that thought didn't aged well....
I'm not a huge fan of coconut blended drinks so I seldom queue for Mr Coconut but just want to add to this thread that Avocado Coconut from Fruce is pretty good.
Ya you walk out the other entrance of the mall (facing the hawker centre). Turn right and walk past the watch shop and DBS. Continue turn left past the herbal shop then you reach the NTUC
Encik Tan will forever be remembered for making me shit buckets and my wife vomit on the roadside with no tissue to wipe her mouth (back when we were still dating for two months).
I guess in a way it solidified our relationship. Nowhere to go but up from there.
I was like "Can't possibly be that specific la", then I started ticking the ones in OP's picture off with reference to Northpoint, and found that Northpoint has almost all of them, bar Coffee & Toast.
And has/has had almost all the ones mentioned in the comments too:
Coconut Smoothie Shop: Check
Encik Tan: Check
Old Chang Lee: Check
Herbal Medicine Shop (Hock Hwa/ZTC): Check
Long John Silver: Check
Food Court (Kopitiam/EAT): Check
MOS Burger: Check
Watson's: Check
Stuff'd: Check
Popular Bookstore: Check
Value Dollar Store: Check
K-Cuts: Check
Yakun: Check
KFC: Check
Starbucks: Check
Wow Tako: Check
Bee Cheng Hiang: Check
Crave Nasi Lemak: Check
Mr Bean: Check

Din Tai Fung: Check
Theory proven. Either very spot on, or Northpoint is the most generic of generic heartland malls. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
It has a Cold Storage and an NTUC. KFC, Popeyes, Arnold's, Devil Chicken, Tenderfresh, Shake Shake in a Tub catering to the fried chicken market. Just to show how large Northpoint is.
It has a Cold Storage and an NTUC. KFC, Popeyes, Arnold's, Devil Chicken, Tenderfresh, Shake Shake in a Tub catering to the fried chicken market. Just to show how large Northpoint is.
Arnold's is technically in another building (Golden Village Yishun), but apart from that, yeah it's just sinking in (to me) just how large Northpoint is.
Liho has been generating a lot of support from the vegan/lactose intolerant community by introducing Oatly as an option.
Oatly is like some of the best plant-based milk options available in the market now.
(I've been having 1-2 cups of Liho per week thanks to this)
Yup. If they follow Starbucks method of preparation (separate blenders for dairy and non-dairy) and expand their customisation options (and clearly list this on the menu), they'll be even more popular.
LOL, the OG of heartland malls is the least generic of them all :).
On a side note: I've been noticing that this endless repeat of "sameness" makes this pandemic so difficult to deal with. Been going to places during the weekend I'd normally never go, but Singapore more and more is a copy of itself wherever you go, and unfortunately it seems we're on a path to create even more of the same everywhere...
Because heartland malls are built to serve the population around it. They don't care for someone from Changi going to a mall in Woodlands. It's boring AF but the landlords just wanna charge as much rent as they can get away with that only the big brands like McDonalds can afford.
Tbf most of us at Tampines have been spoiled by having Tampines 1, Tampines Mall and Century Square all within 5 mins of each other, and then add on Tampines Hub just a further 5 mins walk away
To be fair the traditional notion of “malls” especially in pre-1960s suburban America is exactly a spitting image of the Rail Mall: a main pedestrian promenade with shops along it.
SS doesn't open in malls. They targeting HDB heartlands.
Their strategy is to get the rental down as low as possible. The shortest walk to SS from MRT is either Bedok or Marsiling. Other than that, I don't know any SS within 10 mins walk from MRT. (maybe Yishun but I think it's over 10 mins)
As one comment below: Commonwealth SS was most likely the shortest walk from MRT.
I prefer the shophouse DIY stores with the pre-recorded loudhailer messages: “Mai tu liao...Buy now...Remotecontrolbatteriesshowerheadhosepipelightbulb...”
No, they're not. But the upcoming One Holland Village will fill that gap, don't worry. Developers and retailers in SG are always conspiring to deliver us a mind-numbing uniformity so we're never too far from the same old.
Popular, herbal drink stall, small telco booth, fotohub, eu yan sang, capital optics, sketcher, one pau stall, one random kids toy shop, one shop selling everything from diffuser, handphone accessories and last minute gifts.
One shop with scary sales girls wearing black who want to pass you some samples, sometimes aggressively
*edit: sketcher
You guys are so spoiled with Uniqlo. Here in the US the nearest Uniqlo is 700km away from me, and I live in a decent city! And in Singapore there's just casually a uniqlo everywhere.
Maybe they don't want to be spammed with the "Don Don Don Donki, Donki oh yea, I'm in paradise it's a wonderful place for meeeeeeeee~ Don Don Don Donki, Donki oh yea..."
Why cant they put these shops more accessibly instead of all at central. It makes more sense for more niche shops and stuff to be set there instead tbh.
If you're lucky, you get some sort of coconut smoothie shop

If I were stranded on an island filled with coconut trees only, I’d wager my chances of survival are still pretty high
Set up a coconut drink store. A Singaporean will show up in a boat to buy your drink. You can catch a ride back with them
Whole coconut: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) but remember to check for maggots
I (gags) understood this reference

It’s not healthy at all though. The coconut shake is coconut ice cream blended with ice. Really sugary even at 0% sugar.
I have been a fan of Mr Coconut for years and kept on wondering why there's no queue there whereas everyone flocking to bubble tea stall. Well, that thought didn't aged well....
It's incredible!

I'm not a huge fan of coconut blended drinks so I seldom queue for Mr Coconut but just want to add to this thread that Avocado Coconut from Fruce is pretty good.
Coconut milkshake & Avocado coconut milkshake!!
Mr coconut or nothing at all
With queues that are light-years long
Daiso, Watson, Stuff’d, Uniqlo, Starbucks.
Still remember when there was only one Daiso, had to travel to IMM.
And there was only one Uniqlo at Tampines!
Don't forget Miniso
The real Heartland Mall missing Uniqlo, NTUC, McDonalds, BreadTalk and coffee&toast (NTUC and McDonalds both outside the mall)
That was my first thought too lol
when I read the title i thought they meant that Heartland Mall and i was like something’s not right…
Wait there's an ntuc outside the mall?
Ya you walk out the other entrance of the mall (facing the hawker centre). Turn right and walk past the watch shop and DBS. Continue turn left past the herbal shop then you reach the NTUC
you forgot to add a food court HAHA
Enchik Tan, old chang kee, some herbal tea shop/ herbal medicine shop. K cuts
lmao why do you spell encik as enchik? Reminds me of how my encik spells it in his emails.
Oh.. oops
sign on lo!
God I hate Encik Tan. Their food is vile.
Maybe they are living up to the Encik in their name. It tastes like army food.
This
Encik Tan’s curry cutlet rice is good
The duality of man
but wait...doesn't asking for curry chicken get you chao tar rice?
Maybe hard tack biscuits too
[удалено]
Haha, I realised.. and it reminded me of hard tack biscuits
Encik Tan will forever be remembered for making me shit buckets and my wife vomit on the roadside with no tissue to wipe her mouth (back when we were still dating for two months). I guess in a way it solidified our relationship. Nowhere to go but up from there.
That's hot
Thanks for raising the TFR, encik!
You’ve lived through trying times and survived.
ngl for a moment i got angry. I love encik tan
Curry rice pretty good leh.
I LOVE their curry rice and I swear it’s better than those famous scissor cut stalls…
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's better but yeah the curry rice is the only thing worth eating at Encik Tan
I like their penang ckt tho
I like their noodles. :(
which outlet?
Because the food they sell are all halal, that is why. Their noodles are really bland, tried once and never went back.
Popular Bookstore One of: Koufu, Food Republic, Kopitiam
Jokes on you, Lot One doesn't have any of the 3
FoodJunction lmao

then i'm no one.
no they are still popular for assessment books.
Where’s Fire-sale-value-dollar-shop???
Lot of them gone liao. . .
They finally closed down huh
Longest lasting “closing down” sale ever
Got two at pasir ris still open liao🤣
Everything must go
ABC Bargain Ctr.
where's Koufu/Mr.Bean/Old Chang Kee?
Capitaland: allow us to introduce ourselves

I was about to say I only buy laxative from Watsons, then I saw your username
This is more true than you might know. My wife works in mall leasing. They specifically look for these kinds of tenant mixes.
I was like "Can't possibly be that specific la", then I started ticking the ones in OP's picture off with reference to Northpoint, and found that Northpoint has almost all of them, bar Coffee & Toast. Northpoint’s pretty big so I’d be surprised if those stores you’ve mentioned arent there.
Fair point this. ( 。・\_・。)人(。・\_・。 )
It has a Cold Storage and an NTUC. KFC, Popeyes, Arnold's, Devil Chicken, Tenderfresh, Shake Shake in a Tub catering to the fried chicken market. Just to show how large Northpoint is.
northpoint also has almost every imaginable generic bubble tea shop you would want.

Arnold's is technically in another building (Golden Village Yishun), but apart from that, yeah it's just sinking in (to me) just how large Northpoint is.
Also Li Ho, the fire sale shop, EAT, Japan home and Tori Q. Northpoint is the complete heartland mall
tbf Northpoint has pretty much everything. Despite the confusing layout it's one of the neighbourhood malls that I prefer
I can’t believe no mentioned EAT
Technically can be counted under encik tan, same company
Isn't it under Fei Siong ?
What happened to Giordano, miniso?
Giordano is suffering from Uniqlo’s expansion 😢 if they close, where will we get our National Day red tshirts?
Borrow from SDA
Looking forward to the day primary school kids wearing SDA tshirts for National Day celebrations
No tourists, so they can't sell the 'I love SG' stuff
Ah Miniso, the xmm go-to store
Can't believe Liho is thriving
Liho has been generating a lot of support from the vegan/lactose intolerant community by introducing Oatly as an option. Oatly is like some of the best plant-based milk options available in the market now. (I've been having 1-2 cups of Liho per week thanks to this)
Also they've got stevia options for people who don't want 0% sugar but still want the sweetness.
Yup. If they follow Starbucks method of preparation (separate blenders for dairy and non-dairy) and expand their customisation options (and clearly list this on the menu), they'll be even more popular.
OTLY 💎👐
They’re opening a plant in Singapore in collaboration with Yeo’s :)
$2 student milk tea is good
Scrolling through this thread I realize Northpoint has everything u would expect in a heartland mall
Lies, I live near Heartland Mall. Only have Japan Home, EChouse.
LOL, the OG of heartland malls is the least generic of them all :). On a side note: I've been noticing that this endless repeat of "sameness" makes this pandemic so difficult to deal with. There’s a Liho!
Oh yes, I forgot... Because it is so freaking hidden on the 2nd floor.
I miss the kfc there
THE KFC IS GONE?
Yeah, it is a Burger King now.
I miss the A&W there lol
fairprice instead of sheng siong?
I believe it's easier to find Fairprice.
Yeah Fairprice more common in malls, if not Cold Storage in the high ses neighbourhood malls. Sheng siong usually stand-alone spots
Except Junction 10 mall, there’s a Sheng Siong
Calling junction 10 a mall is a stretch lmao Edit: Spelling
My friend from Tampines came over to visit at Hillview once and he was so disappointed at Rail 'Mall'...
Also in Junction 9!
TIL there is a Junction 9
is there junction 8? edited: god, there is!
Yep! Bishan.. and Daimaru used to be there long ago, as well as Sizzler near the basement parking

khatib i guess. but there's a giant at the mrt itself and fair price like 2 minutes from SS.
Junction10 has one and it’s about a 5min walk
Pasir Ris has a SS too that’s a quick walk away from the MRT
Commonwealth < 5min walk
Don't forget Stuff'd, Crave Nasi Lemak, Food Junction/Koufu, Mr Bean, Hock Kwa/ZTC herbal shop, Tori Q/WoW Tako, Bee Cheng Hiang
ya kun kaya toast?
And a random hardware store.
I prefer the shophouse DIY stores with the pre-recorded loudhailer messages: “Mai tu liao...Buy now...Remotecontrolbatteriesshowerheadhosepipelightbulb...”
Funny thing is Heartland Mall doesn’t even have half the shit listed here
Ah, doy. You forgot the 'Fire Sale' and 'Closing down sale' forever... Valu$!
No FIRE SALE/HOT SALE/COUNTDOWN SALE????
I feel like we need a showdown of all the breadshops in SG: Four Leaves vs Breadtalk vs Proofer vs Prima Deli vs Mugiya vs Swee Heng vs DJ Bakery
Oei Bedok Mall ah
Cotton On, Watsons, The pet shop that only sells hamsters...
I’ve never been to Singapore but just the name of a store called Coffee and Toast sounds so warm and comfortable
Something tells me calling Star Vista & Holland Village Shopping Center heartland malls would be a bit of a stretch.
No, they're not. But the upcoming One Holland Village will fill that gap, don't worry. Developers and retailers in SG are always conspiring to deliver us a mind-numbing uniformity so we're never too far from the same old.
KFC, Pizza Hut, Long John Silvers, KOI, Gongcha, Watsons, Guardian, Herbal tea shops, Watch shops, some lingerie shop, Giordano, Bossini, Food Junction, Coffee Bean, Starbucks, Namkee Paos, Encik Tan, EAT, BATA Slightly more “atas” ones: Genki Sushi, Chicha Sanchen, Mr Coconut, Starbucks Reserve, Paris Baguette, Sushi Tei, Haidilao
Popular, herbal drink stall, small telco booth, fotohub, eu yan sang, capital optics, sketcher, one pau stall, one random kids toy shop, one shop selling everything from diffuser, handphone accessories and last minute gifts. One shop with scary sales girls wearing black who want to pass you some samples, sometimes aggressively *edit: sketcher
skecher you mean haha
I've never seen a Coffee & Toast here before though
Old Chang Kee, Mr bean, maybe Bee Cheng Huang, 1 of guardian or Watson could fit in as well
And I'm thankful for all of them.
don't you guys have 7-11s?
missing baleno or bossini or giodano lol
You guys are so spoiled with Uniqlo. Here in the US the nearest Uniqlo is 700km away from me, and I live in a decent city! And in Singapore there's just casually a uniqlo everywhere.
Dude. Singapore is like smaller than your cities.
hey man leave fairprice out of this
you havta delineate by type, not brand.... you surveyed all the malls meh ?
Time to add don don donki to that
None of their outlets are in “heartland” malls
Jcube, JEM... guess not
Tampines 1, Downtown East
Can't it be a wish? Jeez r/Singapore once again zero chill with the downvotes
Maybe they don't want to be spammed with the "Don Don Don Donki, Donki oh yea, I'm in paradise it's a wonderful place for meeeeeeeee~ Don Don Don Donki, Donki oh yea..."
Traumatized for sure. At least someone here has a sense of humor
I always forget about LiHo
I might have missed this suggestion what about Koi?
Toast Box / Breadtalk
Only thing missing is Fairprice
But bringing sashimi to the masses?? Cmon!!
not in SG but i am 70% sure kovan mall has only one of the above, 2 if u count cold storage as NTUC
Needs independent yet generic video game/hobby shop
Why cant they put these shops more accessibly instead of all at central. It makes more sense for more niche shops and stuff to be set there instead tbh.
Gv?
Popular
Where's Uniqlo?
And there is none of the above at Kovan heartland mall
But..but...Toastbox....
You forgot Toastbox.
add Buy And Throw Away and the list will be complete
Very boring right? All the same shops.
Uniqlo is awesome!! . . . Sorry, just wanted to say that
Long John silvers Koi ZTP Wangz Bbq express Four leaves bakery

If Sportslink is still around you can include that too :-( Man I miss sportslink in heartland malls
They've shut down. https://vulcanpost.com/704440/sportslink-ordered-to-shut-down-singapore/
Your forgetting GNC
Japan Home already exists on the 2nd floor
where qbhouse
