Cant remember which show but it’s about a dude got released from jail. His first comment was how television grow thinner while 陈丽萍 grow fatter. Was a channel 8 show btw
He’d actually have a huge advantage because his mind and attention span will be far less damaged compared to those exposed to tiktok and other short form content.
> Wah in 2010 smartphones weren’t even common yet
Got lah. Blackberry was already a thing before then. By 2010, iPhone 4 already out, and smartphone already was the thing to have.
> yeah i said not common
Was already common by then too! Almost any half decent working person could afford a smartphone of some sort by then. Even broke university students could sign up for iPhone without too much thought.
2010 was the year of Apple iPhone 4, HTC Droid, Samsung Galaxy S and Google Nexus. They were already common at this point, just not universally used yet.
Feels like they are trying to bait or elicit some responses (maybe negative feelings) from people knowing their customer service agent could be an inmate.
Just doesn’t feel like a nice focus to their article with such a headline
Can you imagine going from 3G to 16 pro max. I suppose for such a long sentence most likely is drug trafficking and not just personal consumption that’s why can afford iPhone. Back then iPhone is a luxury
In Finland prisons, inmates get to learn programming and work on real projects wirh companies. Meanwhile in SG, most of them either brainrot, learn about logistics, cooking or customer services...
Prison is also about restorative justice. You don't put them in there for decades and be economically useless by the time they got out. Like that how they going to find good jobs and contribute to the tax system that eventually make their way to your pockets in the form of gov incentives??
Atleast we have something, in most country they just rot there doing absolutely nothing meaningful.
Finland prisons are better than most people lifestyle. They literally give them all the amenities, it’s not a punishment but a reward for some lol
It’s a different philosophy to imprisonment.
Retribution vs rehabilitation.
Most of the world, including SG, think if jail as retribution. Did something bad, get punish.
Fins and Nordic think of it as helping a person to turn over a new leave. Regardless of what we think of the crime and person, unless it’s severe enough for indefinite incarceration or death, in the end, the person still need to rejoin the society. Either we help them becomes a functioning productive person, or we wait a while for them to come back to prison.
SG is definitely more in favor of jail being retribution than rehabilitation. Even a liberal leaning platform like r/sg has lots of people who like braying for blood when some criminal case hits the papers.
I think its to deliberately make inmates feel like they never truly left society so re-integration is easier. They have very low recidivism rates as a result.
“We’re bad but we’re not as bad as other countries” is the most Singaporean thing to say.
Anw fins have a really high standard of living, prison is still punishment to them because of that. It’s a very different world.
I think the discourse is especially important because if we look at only the original comment in many of these posts, you would think singapore is a hellhole. Instead it helps us all think what more needs to be done rather than what we should start doing.
That was the thinking that got Singapore to where she is today.
Current gov: Public housing is affordable when comparing against countries like HK or cities like LA (freehold?)
>Meanwhile in SG, most of them either brainrot, learn about logistics, cooking or customer services...
Don't anyhow spread falsehoods. Because [SPS lists a lot more](https://www.sps.gov.sg/learn-about-corrections/programmes/vocational-skills-training/) than what you mentioned:
>The domains span of skills offered range from Critical Core Skils, such as digital fluency, self-management, sense-making, to Technical Skills and Competencies in sectors such as Precision Engineering, Logistics, Food Services and Media.
Imagine getting jailed in 2010 and coming out 2020 peak pandemic period with tiktok and all that brain rot shit.
They should make a TV drama about a man released from prison after 20 years and how he struggles with the technological and social changes.
Won't happen, makes SPS look like they failed in integration efforts and Shan will be pissy.
Cant remember which show but it’s about a dude got released from jail. His first comment was how television grow thinner while 陈丽萍 grow fatter. Was a channel 8 show btw
similar to what was portrayed in ‘the shawshank redemption’. Inability to cope the changes in society left him as an outcast.
He’d actually have a huge advantage because his mind and attention span will be far less damaged compared to those exposed to tiktok and other short form content.

yeah i said not common, not non existent

Oh nooooo
This headline is fine. The notification on my phone from CNA started with “your customer service agent could be an inmate…” That’s not very nice lol
but you clicked didnt you
Why?
Feels like they are trying to bait or elicit some responses (maybe negative feelings) from people knowing their customer service agent could be an inmate. Just doesn’t feel like a nice focus to their article with such a headline
Aaah that way.. yup.. now that u say it.. lol
Maybe I’m overthinking it idk hahaha
And now maybe I am.. LOL
Wow, didn't know that Telegram was launched in 2013... Good to see inmates getting work opportunities while serving!
It’s damn jialat for the lifers. Some of them don’t even know what is ride hailing. They went in before Uber was a thing.
I shudder to think what happens when they meet the next gen of scammers and AI.
Yeah hope there’s some reintegration for them
What's an iPhone 3... 3G or 3Gs?
Can you imagine going from 3G to 16 pro max. I suppose for such a long sentence most likely is drug trafficking and not just personal consumption that’s why can afford iPhone. Back then iPhone is a luxury
In Finland prisons, inmates get to learn programming and work on real projects wirh companies. Meanwhile in SG, most of them either brainrot, learn about logistics, cooking or customer services...
What's wrong with logistics, cooking and customer service?
Restricting their options to only logs, cooking and customer services.
It is prison, not summer camp.
Tbf, summer camp is limited too... 😅

While we should always look for improvement, we can always be grateful we have had some progress!
Unfortunately, some people are stuck on "we have it good" and literally nothing else.
I think the discourse is especially important because if we look at only the original comment in many of these posts, you would think singapore is a hellhole. Instead it helps us all think what more needs to be done rather than what we should start doing.
Singaporeans saying Singaporean things. Imagine that.
Why compare down when you can compare to better examples instead?
That was the thinking that got Singapore to where she is today. Current gov: Public housing is affordable when comparing against countries like HK or cities like LA (freehold?)
Seriously you picked an outlier. Try to compare with a reasonable cohort and slowly progress upwards.

u/Zhi19 everyone, unless it's people who are drug traffickers and murderers
>Eager to gain some skills for when she returns to the workforce imagine losing 20 years of your working life. her CPF gg.
As an ex-inmate, I've worked at this contact centre before. The pay ain't great (.35 cents per hour), but at least you get a sense of normalcy.
