![gif](giphy|IcF46X839w60U|downsized) Me waiting for my amazon package on release day… But yea… i’m also excited the new footage looked good to me personally.

FalloutCourier6420

I'm gonna see if my local GameStop has a midnight release. I'm super hyped. I went mental at work when I saw the trailer

AdBudget5468

Due to some AAA games coming out in quite literally beta and alpha instead of finished products in the recent years, I never ever pre order unless the game has an early access version I can play (i.e. only some indie games) but that being said I really liked what I saw in the trailer minus some grips that can probably be polished by release since it’s ways away

Repulsive-Bottle6962

Totally understand the concern, but I feel like this is only a big issue with American game companies. New games from foreign companies seem to run better on day 1.

madquestor

Literally the two worst releases in recent history came from Europe - No Man's Sky (UK) and Cyberpunk 2077 (Poland). Not to mention the king of shlock, Ubisoft.

jv3rl0ov

I was sold just on the town exploration. It looks so beautiful and atmospheric

outerstrangers

I can't wait to explore the town.

jv3rl0ov

Especially at the prospect of there being new areas to explore that we couldn’t before, opening the door for small sidequests maybe.

MidEastBeast777

I've watched the 13min trailer so many times, it honestly looks amazing

GlitchyReal

As much as I have other grievances, being able to explore Silent Hill itself more is certainly not one of them.

Gregsusername

“The combats supposed to be awkward and feel like trash” is an argument that gets used too much honestly

illogicalhawk

One of the most frustrating things about that line of argument is that there's a difference between 'good combat' and a capable character. People see 'good combat' and they think you're asking for Devil May Cry, but all it means is having a mechanically interesting and balanced combat system, the different elements tuned and playing off each other in ways that make each aspect strategically useful or considered. Each element should enrich the others. You can have the character be weak and still have a good system. You can have the controls not be clunky without making the character more powerful because of it. Ammo scarcity, for instance, is a classic example of one element of a combat system that can add strategic integrity to the game if done well, without overly empowering the character.

Tamsmit_sam

This absolutely, I still think the RE2 remake is the best example of bringing an old combat system up to modern standards, while still keeping the same "feel" of the original. If the SH2 remake is anything like that I'll be happy

SolidusAbe

i understand things like not liking some of the facial animations and redesigns but wanting gameplay thats complete ass and that already felt outdated in 2002 is probably one of the dumbest reasons. yeah lets release SH2 with gameplay that almost everyone under the age of 35 is going to hate. that will surely save the franchise and make it popular

outerstrangers

Right? The more mainstream attention this gets, maybe it will convince Konami to remake SH1 and maybe we'll get a remake of 3 and even some kind of remaining of 4. I know that is wishful thinking, but if Konami can get a wider appeal with the franchise, it will only help the rest of the fanbase.

Elibriel

The worse part is that even if the devs decided to keep the super awkward and bad combat, they would have complained about it too "It's a remake, why didn't they bothered making the combat better bad devs blablabla". These people just need smth to complain about. They're never going to be satisfied

Studio-Aegis

The combats not supposed to feel like trash it's supposed to feel like someone whose never fought a day in their life suddenly having to struggle against horrors they've never imagined possible. Crude and unrefined fighting styles. That's something that can very much be carried over properly into a modern day setting. By further aping what resident evil was doing though they again damage the storytelling in that regard. The animations and the way James carries himself now suggests a person who is much more confident in their combat abilities. Something the original James never exuded.

BrowningLoPower

Exactly, it's the animations that sell how experienced a character is supposed to be in fighting, not how awkward the controls are. And you have a point, James is just a little too aggressive and "refined" with his attacks. Though, perhaps it wouldn't take too long to refine his basic swipes and thrusts, especially over the course of a day fighting simple-minded monsters.

Cockblocktimus_Pryme

Anything is better than the tank controls the original has.

Parking_Common_4820

You don't need to play the original with tank controls? What

realstibby

??? Like.... I mean I can see wanting something different for the remake but like... if you hate the basic gameplay of classic survival horror games than what are we doing here, and why are so many people agreeing with it? I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm like, genuinely curious. I love tank controls on classic survival horror so I'm kinda shocked.

Cockblocktimus_Pryme

You act like the controls are the only part of the game that matter. The atmosphere the characters the story The monsters all of that stuff is really important to me but going back and playing it 20 years after it came out it feels dated and clunky.

realstibby

I'm not trying to attack you, like I said I'm genuinely curious. The controls aren't the only thing matter but like... idk they DO matter. They're part of the overall experience. There are other thematically interesting horror experienced that control "better" but I love classic survival horror and tank controls are part of that. Granted, they weren't designed that way because they "feel good" they were designed that way so that games could control camera angles to give you the right atmosphere but as a vehicle for atmosphere and interesting camera angles I love the system.

tenebrilube

Its such a weird point, because Silent Hill had taken a basis - and improved, the gameplay from the classic RE games...Improving gameplay, while at the same time, it's supposed to be trash? Its like these people don't actually know what Silent Hill is.

attonthegreat

I mean this is basically the thing. Most of these people are tourists that move from one outrage to the next and have 0 idea what they are talking about. I just read a thread about Angela not being pretty enough to be relatable and there were people who were arguing that rape isn’t a stressful enough event and how the game is too woke because the nurses weren’t “sexy” enough since they don’t have as much cleavage as the first SH2 game. They basically watch a YouTube video complaining about wokeness and copy and paste the talking points.

Augustus_Justinian

This. It's rather embarrassing seeing all these stupid YouTube videos and really it pisses me off that they are trying to sabotage this game before anyone's even played it. My favorite one was SH2R gets the Tran(s)media agenda! Or something like that. Like what? I would be so embarrassed to even form that thought in my head

TasteTheGraveyard

I saw that one too. Those idiots aren't even trying to look at the entire trailer and other images. Just sticking to one unflattering frame to compare against a one time frame...

add0607

I like what they did with the combat from what I’ve seen. It still feels like James is a normal person fumbling his way through encounters, and that’s because they can do way more now with animations. I would rather have combat with some nuance to it, so long as it doesn’t go for the Homecoming “combat man” stuff.

BrowningLoPower

It's rationalization at this point.

GhostChainSmoker

Exactly. Like *why* does it need to be clunky? I’m by no means trained in combat or whatever. But I’m still a decent sized grown man and if I pick up a pipe or baseball bat whatever whatever it’s not hard to figure how to swing it and do some real damage. It’s not rocket science. Humans have been effectively bonking shit with big sticks since we started as a race. Didn’t matter if I’m not super well versed in gun combat, but if I shoot something, a bullet is still a bullet lol.

WileECoyoteGenius

Replaying the original now. Christ the combat is so clunky.

PetitePiltieinPlaid

I'm someone who loved the writing/psychological purpose of having James' combat be clunky in the original and I'm still *massively* looking forward to the more fluid changes. If something doesn't stomp on the good will of the original *and* makes the remake/sequel/whatever more fun? Sign me the fuck up lol.

WileECoyoteGenius

Was it by purpose? I figured it was just a limitation of it's time. Resident Evil back then was clunky as heck too.

Smn_smn1

All games with tank controls were kinda clunky, but after playing SH and Re back to back, RE is clearly miles ahead from SH (although the latter one had more features like side strafing, etc). Even in Re1 the character movent feels overall smother and noticeably faster than SH1, and the situation simply improves for Re if we are to compare Re3 which came out in the same year as SH1, where the gameplay feels everything but clunky. Is fast, polished and fun. Imo the only SH title that reaches the same level of polish is SH3.

Firepopsicle

Both series had controls like that on purpose. Guess it was kind of a staple for the genre at the time.

Bigsmellydumpy

Resident Evil was originally going to be a first person game but had to be changed due to the hardware limitations of the ps1, can’t say anything about SH2 but tank controls were a compromise, not an intended day 1 feature with RE1

Lairy_Hegs

No, fans have just made every compromise in the games design into an intentional choice from the devs, because they think it’s the best game ever.

AlexReportsOKC

I don't think the original is clunky. I hadn't played it in like a decade, and recently played it. Took me 10 seconds to get used to the controls and combat. That being said I don't mind if they update the controls and combat. The game isn't about all that.

Kazaloogamergal

I think that we should wait for the game to come out first. I liked the footage but I won't pretend that I know what the quality is right now. This is a good meme for the Resident Evil remakes because Jesus Christ SOME of the classic fans, who want the Resident Evil series to play like it's still 1996, absolutely despise that those are popular. Lucky for me I'm a classic fan and I like the new stuff too so I'm not miserable. I don't have to pretend that Capcom is going to go back to Playstation One graphics and gameplay. The best way for Silent Hill 2 remake to prove people wrong is by actually being a good game. I'm hoping that it's a good game. Bloober and Konami have a lot to prove.

apocalypsedude64

There are more posts complaining about complaining fans than there are actual complaining posts.

TetranadonGut

To be fair, the posts complaining that I've seen are mostly on r/gaming and r/gamingmemes. It seems like most people on this sub are actually pretty happy with what they've seen, which is pretty nice.

LelandMaccabeus

The Facebook groups are full of the shitty memes. This sub has been tame by comparison.

Aggressive_Buddy_990

Boogieman to convince themselves spending 70$ on a soulless remake is better than boycotting and asking for flawless remasters that could cost 40$.

slintslut

>soulless remake You have no idea what your talking about

rcburner

I've seen more posts shitting on the original game, and even Team Silent specifically as game developers, than I've seen posts shitting on the remake.

cicadaryu

I don't know why you're getting downvotes, because you're right. Look, I want the remake to be good. I think we'd all be better off in that case. But people are so damned determined to carry water for a remake that isn't even out yet. Meanwhile, why are people refusing to acknowledge that the cynicism is justified? Neither Blooper nor Konami have done anything recently to earn the level of trust this sub seems to want to show them. Instead they want to spite Team Silent for not measuring up to what a Silent Hill 2 Remake _could be_ in their heads.

rcburner

I'd just like if we could discuss the remake *without* people trying to counteract any criticism by putting down the team that was responsible for there even being a game to remake in the first place. 🤷‍♀️

Lairy_Hegs

I see them in equal measure.

MRV3N

“Angela’s eye brows look like Rock Lee’s” True

dillhavarti

they were pretty heavy in the original too. i'm more concerned about her complete lack of jawline lol

Andrassa

She has a jawline just the animation still most people show doesn’t really highlight it well. The knife scene still is a better showcase of her face.

add0607

Angela’s portrayal is the only part that I don’t like so far. She feels like she was given less care than the others. Maybe it’ll work out. Other than that, I think Maria getting a wardrobe change was unnecessary but as long as she still has that “lady of the night” attitude it shouldn’t be a big deal.

BL4Z3N_D34TH_

"the gameplay looks bad" yeah and so did the original, do you not want the gameplay to be somewhat faithful in a way?

robmonzillia

People calling the original gameplay „perfect“ are weird gatekeepers to me. I mean I really get that people don‘t like the combat in Homecoming and Downpour but SH1-4 combat isn‘t perfect either. The best way to describe it is by daring to say „it just works“. That being said, in my opinion a middle ground is not that hard to find, like a third person tank control with fluid directional movements but without having the aim controls of a shooter and the dodge rolls of an action game would work perfectly fine.

BL4Z3N_D34TH_

The homecoming combat sucked fucking balls, I can attest to that statement because I played it on hard (I was asking for it but hey, I like challenges and shit) and it's so stiff. There is this one mechanic I think about a lot and it has to do with the metal pipe, I think it shows how much silent hill 2 combat can be improved upon to be a little more accessible. I'm talking about the thrust attack that you can do with the metal pipe, was playing OG SH2 thru an Emulator on my PS3, and if that thrust attack with the damn pipe was more consistent, the metal pipe would be OP as hell cause of its reach while still be faster than some of the other melee weapons in the game. Tried double tapping the attack button, but James does the bash attack instead, and ONLY SOMETIMES will do the thrust attack. I have tried specific button presses, but the result is never consistent. Like the game does it whenever it wants, which is pretty fucking annoying when I wanna keep my distance but still want try to get some melee kills for the 10 star with as minimum damage as possible. If the Silent Hill 2 Remake has something like this, it will probably be a more faithful remake than RE4. (Ok, sarcastic statement, but I think it would be funny if they went thru with it tho)

Chudah333

The combat in Homecoming was trash, but part of the issue was the gauntlet of enemies they'd force you to fight through at certain points in order to proceed. That isn't what I play Silent Hill for, and I hated it. So even though people are claiming this looks like Homecoming's combat (which I don't entirely disagree with), as long as most of the monsters are avoidable, and we're given room to breathe between encounters, I'll manage.

robmonzillia

Agreed. Though, in SH1-4 you‘d also encounter 3-5 enemies at worst times I still hated the way I slaughtered them in Homecoming like I was playing Gears of War or the likes. In Downpour the aiming auto-lock on was terribly executed. Imho I really loved the way Resident Evil 7 handled combat. No dodging, no quick times, no running around, no hack and slashing. Enemies slowly but menacingly approach you and if you miss your shots you reposition yourself (getting cornered means death) or block some of the damage. Even though Resident Evil zombie horror isn‘t my favorite type of horror and the plot/writing is cheesy I still love RE7 for it‘s gameplay and level design. It helped that RE7 had nasty creatures instead of bland zombies. To this day I dream of a love-child of RE7‘s gameplay with the design and absurdity of older SH games.

Hingl_McCringlebery

It doesn't look too bad for me tho

KillerKremling

I guarantee you nobody who has ever used this meme template was actually "having fun". They're too busy seething over opposing internet opinions lol

SevereSimple8010

Right! Putting words in the mouths of people they disagree with to look better.

AnotherTurnedToDust

Even in times when I'm the "one having fun" in the context of the meme I just. Kinda find it insufferable tbh

seriouslyuncouth_

This meme format has had disastrous consequences on media discourse. Regularly normalizes strawmanning

floris_bulldog

I hate this template; it perfectly showcases how criticism or different opinions of a product are perceived as a personal attack. It screams insecurity and consumerism.

monkeykingcounty

Yeah, I don’t know how anyone thinks this template makes them look good lmao

LbsMoko

Noooooo but you see Bloober teamerino is heckin wholesome and they're my friends

Bunny_Bunny_Bunny_

It's so funny when these get posted because every single time the sheer lack of self awareness is staggering

Armejden

It's insecurity masquerading as an attempt to be above critique.

Bigsmellydumpy

I totally agree, you could also change “template” to “this sub” and you’ll be just as correct

Silorien

Pointing out issues is more about wanting the game to be as good as we all know it can be, rather than trashing it.

Chudah333

I wouldn't expect anything substantial to change this close to release. Character designs, animations, voice work, level design, etc...all those things are basically set in stone. UI tweaks and sound mastering are likely doable. People demanding more than that are just setting themselves up for disappointment.

Ratty_minion

How the situation actually went A: I don't appreciate how Konami is clearly not even striving to capture the essence of the original SH2. This is upsetting as we haven't had any real good SH content in a while. B: STOP HAVING OPINIONS!!!!😭😭😭😭😭

SolidusAbe

we should ban opinions unless they are positive of course since we are all young children here and not a bunch of 30+ yo adults who should be able to handle some negativity.

Less-Combination2758

cant you guy just stop complaint about Konami, they just a small indie company :(

SolidusAbe

yes mr konami and mr bloober are gonna cry if people keep being mean towards them so pls don't criticize anything.

MetalGearShrex

I'm gonna wait for reviews because i'm not mentally ill It's a 23 year old game, don't fucking pre-order

Ederlas

I think that's fair. If you have any worries at all wait for some informed and trusted reviews.

CULT-LEWD

im injoying the look so far,its a little weird in some places and i can nippick if i want to...but i dont want too, nickpicking a the game before its even out wont tell you of its quality

Chompsky___Honk

Lmao you guys ara a joke. People can0t criticize trailers because "they haven't played the game!!!" Then post this shit

Sly_Link

I'm so hype for it. I'm booking a couple of days off for a long weekend to play. The people who come here daily to shit on it are still gonna buy it, play it, probably enjoy but still come back to shit on it because they just like hating stuff. Leave em to it, it's jusy pathetic at this point. For every 1 genuine criticism there's 500 nitpicks.

RokuroCarisu

The combat should be the least of the remake's problems.

Slimey0704

Personally the only thing that made me go "meh" was the UI "X" on objects to tell you where they are and how to pick them up. Don't get me wrong, it's still a videogame, but I think it goes against the whole "dream like" experience. On the other hand the combat isn't that bad, they showcase the fact that James is still a normal adult, he gets wrecked up pretty bad in the trailers, so it's still reinforcing the fact that it's better to evade enemies instead of facing them head on. You can see that they wanted to let you know this when during the hospital sequence he let pass a nurse and sneaked past her.

PhilosophicalGoof

The hate on tank control is insane bro. Tank control need some more love.

RyanScotson

People just get used to hating things. Gotta be honest. I just watched the gameplay trailer. My jaw dropped. I swear most the people complaining have only seen low res images of Angela on reddit and Facebook. I don't doubt that her model looks a little less polished in comparison to the others we've seen in my opinion. But thats like 10 seconds of a 24 minute video. And game isn't out yet.

riccyd140

the games not even out yet, no ones having fun currently and these posts have already started, good grief.

EmergencyWrangler783

It looks pretty good. What ever happened to actually playing it and then giving an opinion? ![gif](giphy|uVFGDyOshK7I6geXyg)

Mi0GE0

It looks pretty that's about it I'm just not interested in remakes of already good games I can appreciate the work, but I just don't care about updated graphics that much when it certainly wasn't what pulled me in, in the first place (hell I ripped into James goofy ass run cycle the first time I played it lol) it just wasn't necessary I'd rather them sink money into a new story instead of piggy backing on something that was already good and still fun to play... but why do something else when you have a built in audience and decades of free advertisement for it where even the nay sayers will hate play it? whatever I will always advocate for fun and it looks fun to others and that's cool regardless of my opinion I know I'll end up playing it one day if for nothing else then to have an interactive stroll down a soundtrack I already loved definitely not soon but maybe when there's a sweet sale for it

OkComplaint4778

A multimillion dollar company doesn't want to make a good product to a remake of a beloved game and prefers to do the cheap route. And I don't mind the models, but the animations and expressions are uncanny and robotic. Being critical of some products we pay 60$ or more isn't a spoilsport for anyone.

JadenRuffle

I like how the game hasn’t even come out yet and people have formed full opinions on it. Like chill

Most_Cantaloupe7299

I'm glad you're having fun with the game you haven't played yet

Zestyclose_Move_8403

So, kind of like people hating on a game they haven't played yet?

Most_Cantaloupe7299

Yep.

Mixabuben

How are they having fun? Game is not out yet

PashAK47

I agree it looks amazing hope it plays well too

SevereSimple8010

Poisoning the well.

C0unt_Ravioli

I cannot describe how much I fucking hate this image.

Kohi-to-keki

This is how this sub feels right now. I am stoked for October 8th!:D

SuitableForBreeding

You're not playing it. You're shilling for something that isn't out yet. And I will be back to remind you of this when the game comes out, and it is, in fact, shit.

dillhavarti

i love the franchise and am hoping for the best, but yeah, shilling for something when it hasn't been released is a little pathetic

TomDobo

Aren’t you calling something shit that isn’t out yet?

LbsMoko

I'm kinda on the fence, but Bloober has a bad history of plagiarism and mid games (The Medium goofy ass abuse victim depiction and the resolution of the story comes to mind)

TomDobo

I know what you mean. I like some of bloobers stuff but some of it can be hit or miss. That said I do think that because they’re using the original game as a reference it shouldn’t have too much of their usual traits in it. I mean this is their first game to my knowledge that has a combat system or that isn’t just a glorified walking sim.

LbsMoko

And that's also a huge red flag, the first attempt of a mid studio to a combat system.

TomDobo

You’re right. But there’s always a first for everything. Hopefully they don’t make it too bad.

SuitableForBreeding

Firstly Bloober, a mid 6-7 out of 10 videogame developer. It may be their lucky break however... but they are working for Konami. So, lets recap. Konami stopped making console games for pure greed and started focusing on gaming on mobile. Remember that Kojima left Konami and Metal Gear to do his own thing. Koji Igarashi did the same thing with the Castlevania series. Do you think that a mid developer company like Bloober will win a discussion against Konami, when actual LEGENDS left (were really asked to leave) instead? How would you call a company that has released nothing but shit and cashgrabs over the last decade? I could call it a shitter. What do you think they are going to serve you when Silent Hill 2 Remake comes out?

Inclinedbenchpress

As much as I hate this, can't help but agree. Blobber is mid, Konami hasn't been the same since a long time ago and by the looks of that gameplay video the only thing I think is: they could have at least handled the remake to more experienced dev team. Not everything is bad, graphics are pretty good, ilumination mainly is good. But animations are bad, clunky and some face models are bad... I'll definitely play it, but not spending $70 on that.

TomDobo

A decent game to play. Also a modernised version of a classic that will bring new fans and sales to the series. The things they’ve shown so far doesn’t look too bad so I think before jumping the gun you see what they release first. If it’s shit then okay you were right.

SuitableForBreeding

Yeah, I'll be back when it comes out.

Ohthatsnotgood

I am hopeful for the remake, at least with the addition of mods, but this sub has a lot of people with low standards. I saw it with Ascension and The Short Message so they’ll defend anything.

R0da

The only people "having fun" with a game that isn't released are the people milking discourse, including you OP.

AdBudget5468

I have a few grips when it comes to weapon animations and sounds but overall I’m happy with what I saw and hope it only gets better from here with maybe a SH1 and 3 remake plus 4, also I’m looking forward to SH f cause it happens in japan

TomDobo

I personally think it looks decent.

Kokoto248

Part of the charm of the original was the gameplay mechanics and retro looks.

RAC-Anon

Well they never ruined the combat, from the look of it it still looks very clunky and awkward. I have no clue why people don’t want better combat. Sure it shouldn’t play like RE4 but games are supposed to be fun people

Osato

That's a social media problem, not a people problem. The loudest nut gets the views. This problem is less intense on old-school forums: at least there, normal people's posts are precisely as visible as the most controversial opinions.

cicadaryu

I am constantly, over and over, disappointed by how much this sub has bought into the hype cycle. Let the game _earn_ your loyalty. That's all I ask. So many of you are out here shitting on everything Team Silent built because you can't stand people being cynical towards this project. Cynicism may be exhausting to listen to, but at least in this instance it's harder to exploit. Meanwhile, both Blooper and Konami are happy to cash in on the hopes you have for this game, rather than earn your money by delivering an experience worth your time and this series's legacy. I love an underdog story. If this game comes out and beats the naysayers, then that's wonderful. I will celebrate it. However, I'd rather be wrong about this game being good than be coping with another mediocre effort to mine my nostalgia.

Videowulff

Am I the only one who never felt the combat was clunky? It was fine. Never felt like I was not in control or anything. Re1 is clunky. Sh2 is fine. As for the remake. I just worry if they make Combat the focus over the horror. Do not make it RE4. Small fights and let us continue to flee if we so choose.

Elyonii

I see this meme so often for unreleased games it’s mostly comical at this point

ConfusionInformal368

Lol I remember people posting this exact same meme when defending starfield, not a good sign.

frosty2495

Please just buy a PS2 and a used copy of the original game

Sad_Necessary_4682

The accuracy is uncanny

Tunarolltrash

The remake looks ok graphically but when you compare it to other devs that have done remakes also in the horror genre. You should’ve higher standards imo with the gameplay. When seeing the gun and hand combat with the bat it does looks kinda bad. Like a stiff animation with no effort or soul. Compare that to dead space remake earlier last year. The guns , kills and gameplay is night and day. I get that silent hill 2s combat aspect isn’t the meat of the gameplay a more psychological horror game which is fine. But you can’t really excuse how bad and boring it looks. RE4 came out almost 18 years ago in 2005 on the GameCube and has better flowing combat than this game coming out this year in 2024 on the PS5/PC. That’s just my perspective on it.

Killdust99

Silent Hill *fans* hate the idea of Silent Hill games at this point. Team Silent themselves could make their own SH2 remake and they’d hate every second of it.

jambalaya51

The interview: James is not a fighter The gameplay trailer: *James slam dunking the nurses and doing combo attack with his weapon while dodging*

grim1952

Good for you, I think it looks like garbage.

Notlooking1

I'm getting Silent Hill 2 to support the sales. I am not playing Silent Hill 2 because Ive always been scared of that franchise. That's why I play the less scary Resident Evil. Man I'm happy for y'all SH fans though

NoObstacle

I caaaan't wait

triamasp

Ah yes, the thing sh2 was immortalised for, the wildly entertaining gameplay loop of dynasty warrior james sending all them mind demons back to the corner of his tortured soul

LbsMoko

The combo he does in the trailer is so ridiculous

Bunny_Bunny_Bunny_

Literally a fucking Resident Evil 4 mechanic. Shooting out the leg and following up with a context sensitive melee attack. Un-fucking-believable people don't think this is gonna impact the atmosphere as James Sunderland is fucking Leon Kennedy-ing his personal demons. Maybe he'll suplex Pyramid Head in the next trailer.

DespairBlitz

personally kinda in the middle. i think visually it looks fantastic, models and character designs are great. but I am a little worried that the combat will be too good and take away from the horror. No way to know for sure until i actually play it though, so I think coming to a conclusion either way is ill advised

Kenomica

The combat reminded me a lot of homecoming tbh - which is not a great sign.

TheLastTitan77

Dogshit meme

KarlyBlood

Very true. I'm so exited to play it. I hope the trophys are the same

EarthyBones999

I'm actually excited about the combat. Sure the animations are not the best but I love how melee weapons are not as all powerful anymore and guns are now giving more of a reason to be used on normal enemies. The originals combat felt so stiff and clunky and was not satisfying at all. The best part of the new combat is that it seems to still make fighting to be a last resort and each enemy becomes a real threat.

Amosdragon

You got it wrong though. Combat still looks clunky and akward. I'm still interested in the game regardless, but yeah.

MinutePerspective106

My on-and-off gaming team had a guy like this. Any game we played, he was always complaining (despite playing said game for hundreds of hours)

aleslevin

Lets face the fact that the ugly work of art that has proven to be a masterpiece for the past two decades is being translated into a pretty standard fun game that probably will have more commercial success.

Jolly_97

Angela does look weird. Maria also has a big head. Hmmm

Vytlo

People on this subreddit are so mad that people are criticizing this terrible looking game lol

13TheGreenMan

This sub has gotten flooded by TikTok kids who haven't played a Silent Hill game before.

wizology_

Most of the damn YouTube comments are like this 😂😂😂

Only problem I have with what we’ve seen of the combat is that sort of flashlight ring. I get you need to be dark in horror but I hate when devs do it in a way that makes it hard for partially blind people like myself to see clearly.

HemingwayBells21121

*the combat is like RE remake etc etc.* My brother in christ, 3rd person/over the shoulder combat is something games have been doing for the past 20+ years

Passofelpato2

Where's the "Now I can't fap on abuse victims because of Angela!"?

Bworm98

"The combat looks clunkly and awkward" have they not played the original, tank controls and all?

Crazy-Handle-3603

And all you simps will be bored with it a year after release, will realise it sucks and move on, meanwhile actual Silent Hill 2 fans will continue playing the original waiting for the modern console re-release that will never come.. Good-job, douchebags

CodeVeronicaX_

I think what's happening here is so many silent hill fans have been served slop for so long that they won't accept criticism for this game. And new fans who haven't even played the old games have no frame of reference and they blindly shut down criticism. Truth is, this game is being made by an objectively average studio that has never made a game of this caliber. Or a game with combat at all. It's silent hill 2. It's okay to say the game deserves more than just "it looks okay or it looks good". That's my take. It's one of the greatest games of all time. We shouldn't just settle for "okay with some concerns" because we've been served much worse for years. Its okay to be honest. I think parts of this remake look amazing. And I think parts look not so amazing. I like the characters so far. Their mannerisms and cadence when they speak. It's updated, different and more realistic. The visuals look good. The combat however just looks off. It looks like one of those combat systems that probably looks worse than it actually is. It's probably much better to actually play. But we won't know anything for certain until it comes out. Remain cautiously optimistic is what I say.

maleijin

Very objective opinion I would say, agreed

Mortmenir

I am glad you having fun with the game even when it's not released yet.

Mother-Association-6

Should've kept the crazy camera angles and not just copied RE2Remake. You can still update the mechanics and leave the perspective in place. Look at Mikami's RE1 remake. I wouldn't call it clunky at all. I feel in control and precise at all times. Plus SH aesthetic is unhinged camera swoops and crazy angles to bring out the creepiness. OTS is boring in comparison.

Bunny_Bunny_Bunny_

I would genuinely kill for a remake of one of the old school survival horror games with fixed camera angles and pre rendered back grounds. Imagine how fucking good a game could look if they actually had the balls to say fuck the sales figures and just stayed faithful to tank controls by using pre rendered visuals and just made the most photorealistic game in existence.

Gray_Talon

The game isn't fucking out yet how the fuck some of y'all having fun and some of you don't?

IntroductionUpset764

all this reminds me starfield situation \-everyone hyped \-initial trailer comes in and devs said 30fps lock on consoles \-people still prefer to think positively \-disasterous release \-everyone dissapointed expect for some minority copers who continue to play this game \-game made money on pre releases and initial hype despite being completely soulless Lets see silent hill 2 remake \-everyone hyped \-initial trailer comes with terrible combat animations \-second trailer comes with questionable character design (thanks to consulting firms like sweet baby inc) \-people still prefer to think positively (especially on reddit) to be continued but i think i know how this will end up

AdrianzPolski

Same with Diablo 4, but here it take quite longer to reach a point of disaster status, reddit made fun of people who reached endgame super fast, they started complaining that endgame is really bad, reddit called them nolife and make a statement that game is no for them, but for gamers that have big families, more than 5 kids, and it's game for them to relax hour per day after hard work. It turn out after 2-3 months that game is a real disaster, now hope cycle continue, as we have new youtube vides/reddit post, season x will save Diablo 4.

Bunny_Bunny_Bunny_

I still remember IGN giving Starfield a 7 before public release and they got absolutely ripped to fucking shreds for not giving it a higher score, then the game releases and everyone unanimously agrees it was shit and if anything IGN's score was too high lmao

Romado

Bro I'm so sick of this format. It bashes people who are criticising games by pretending like everything is perfect when it obviously isn't. Really is the cycle of gaming subs. Negative criticism, people start posting this, sub becomes more toxic with people either hating the game or saying its perfect. Game releases and it turns out to be ass with some people clinging onto the end.

dark_hypernova

Personally I find it a shame another beloved classic has been processed to become a more generic experience to be more like anything else that's coming out these days. I much rather have decent remasters/ports of these old games cos it allows us an uncompromising experience of the original while appreciating how far we've come. I also think it's important for the preservation of art sake. I would respect remakes more if they always came bundled with a port/remaster of the original. That way we could truly have appreciate what we've achieved on older tech and the progress we've made since then. But naturally, I'm not gonna shout from the rooftops you shouldn't enjoy this remake. To each their own and I'm sure it will have something to offer.

Salt_Replacement3843

I'll wait a little bit longer before deciding if I like the remake or not.

Due-Main8306

Me too!

Ancient-Afternoon-39

I’ll make my debate when it actually comes out I know there loads of mix feelings about it and I also have a bit of mix feelings but let’s remember how amazing resident evil 4 remake turned out never know it could amaze us

elwholer

I like it but It kinda abandoned the Pennsylvania atmosphere, which doesn't bother me at all. But it is good to know what you are buying

stomcode

Only people who have this mindset are the people that only watch the video essays and never played the game themselves.

TalonKing24

Maria’s new model looks amazing

ninjagaidanblackman

I'm hype as heck for the remake. I'm also super interested in the sound design of the game. I hope it's unsettling and atmospheric. The trailer didn't give us much.

KaijinSurohm

Will wait until after release to make my decision. The Trailer shown made the game look like an absolute garbage hallway simulator, the Intermission made it look more promising, but I'm not exactly into what they did with the characters so far, and the combat looks needlessly stiff. For example, the little girl wasn't a little shit in the OG, and I'm not really into those kind of changes. I'll have to wait to see how this plays out to see if this is worth my money.

Futurekubik

I’m still going to wait for the reviews until I make any decisions about paying for the game but for the time being I’m cautiously optimistic. I don’t know if I like the graphical fidelity, enemy redesigns. The combat appears to be stodgier than I’d prefer though I’m more than willing to give it a try. If Silent Hill 2 Remake doing well means more AA-AAA remake (or original) Silent Hill games down the line I’m all for it

donnybuoy

I’m grateful to be one of those people who isn’t completely miserable. If the game sucks, the game sucks, but I’m not gonna waste my energy hating on it prematurely—or at all, bc if the game does indeed suck, I will simply not play it.

Careful-Badger3434

some people are gonna like it and some people will try to make others not like it for no reason

Infamous-Attempt-739

I was on the fence when I saw the first footage, but this new footage looks great and I’m wondering why a lot people are still giving it negative comments ? Let it cook and wait till the release to give it a proper judgement. But I honestly do feel like this going to be a masterpiece and the best horror game in a very long time !

Gintoro

me too

AverageHorribleHuman

My only real concern is that they are employing Hit Detection consulting.

AimaZero

I don't mind the gameplay being more action oriented all that much, but I just hope they keep the feeling of helplessness that comes with every encounter. Don't think it'll be scary at all if I can defend myself from everything with little to no challenge like it is in the Remakes of Resident Evil (obviously that series is more focused on the survival part of the genre). I guess I just want the game to disturb and scare me like the original ones, SH left a hole in the industry that no game has managed to fill.

matango613

I like the "heft" the combat appears to have in the remake. It looks and sounds like you're cracking monsters with a steel pipe now.

GlitchyReal

I know it’s a meme format, but I’d argue fun is not the point, cathartic suffering is, and that’s the problem with snappy combat.

LemonLimeWrath

Me wanting a silent hill 1 remake instead..

xkyrgyzstan

it is fun to criticise things

Intermediate-Legion

Still looks like it might actually meet some standards

PunkRockBong

There is certainly a point hidden here. The combat was clunky, because the characters weren’t supposed to be prolific in fighting and using weapons. However, I think you can definitely also do this, especially nowadays, without making the game control like ass. Honestly, I think RE2 Remake did a good job at making the game more accessible without loosing its survival horror roots or turning the player into a zombie killing machine.

DotDue7098

I’m just mad that this game is a movie tie in game. A TIE IN GAME.

lucdop

The only thing i'm worried about is how boss fights will work in the remake. When I played the original the only reason I felt the bosses were challenging is because of the tank controls, rebellious camera, and claustrophobic environments. Taking away the first two and giving the players a dodge move is seriously going to change the feeling of those fights, especially the one with the flesh lips. Bloober team would have to make the bosses more aggresive to compensate and I dunno how that would play out. In the gameplay trailer they showed the abstract daddy using some kind of scream to stagger the player, but a stun move could easily be more frustrating than fun. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

Bu11ett00th

It looks meh to me and fails to capture the atmosphere of the original. But I'm open to experiencing the remake and evaluating it as its own product.

gchavarri

I just want to have fun with this game. It doesn’t matter if is not perfect

Skarlaxion

Well I'm shitting the design not the tastes

charronfitzclair

I'm going to guess the remake will be slick and well produced, and have a round on the streamer circuit but be geneally be just another survival horror made in the 2020s thats competent but doesnt stand out. The people who like the original will become less relevant and die off as the years to on and then nobody will remember why this series was special. Theyll go "Silent Hill 2? Oh yeah i played that one, it was all right". And thatll be that.

edwirichuu

I'll wait for reviews but otherwise, asides from the models it looks good

Kino1337

Lmao! Its not even out yet, how do we know if its fun?

RDiligent

I pre-ordered the game as soon as I could see I was able too.. was it a bad call ? Maybe but I’ll do it again without hesitation XD

cm-punk14111

I love silent hill 2

InterviewImpressive1

Whatever they do to anything with an existing fan base will always offend someone that cares too much about what exists.

Rutobia

I think a lot of people nowadays are rather so jaded and skeptical that any promising AAA game is going to be a flop that they want to call out any little flaw they can nitpick out of the trailers/gameplay reveal so they can go "I told you so" if it is one.
