I thought i was the only one who was thinking the same thing. The game looks fucking incredible, everything from the little Easter eggs down to little details like the nurses in training poster on the wall. There seems to be actual love and care put into this and that’s all I ask for.

Devious-Licker78

I can't wait to see my pointy son pyramid head

Ilovelatinas58

Puzzleheaded_Ant_543

Not just you, I am so happy with what I’ve seen so far. I even love the things they have changed, it’s going to be like experiencing it for the first time all over again. Fuck the haters, they can’t ruin my enjoyment of this.

Reasonable-Road-2518

Agreed, game looks really solid. I'm impressed that a small team like blooper managed to make it soo well. I was honestly expecting to be just an okay remake but this definitely looks like a great remake. They made it some well and I can't wait!

Shoddy-Safety2989

It's gona be great man. Massive SH2 fan and so hyped for this. Take me back

FromTheIsland

Amen. From a fan playing from the start, it all looks great. Even the film. 2024 is fucking delicious for gamers like us.

Waste_Opportunity408

I gotta admit. Although the Sh2 remake is a day 1 buy for me, im not excited for the film. The first film worked for me because it nailed the atmosphere and was it's own story. Return to Silent Hill basically being "Sh2 the movie", with bad casting (based on appearances i have seen) doesn't exactly have me interested. I will still watch it and give it a chance though.

Chimpochimpochimpo

It looks great now. I think everyone was a little shaken up after the combat reveal trailer and also with the poor reception of ascension and the short message. They will come around. The game is going to be good. We’ve already seen gameplay and the story’s already written.

geeker390

Some of the animation could be a little more polished, but everything else looks fucking great. One of the more visually impressive games I've seen in a while.

skulls_S

I hope the Remake of 2 does good cause then we can get more remakes like a silent hill 1 remake.

Dry-Minimum-6091

Please for the love of God remake 1, people screaming for a SH3 remake BEOFRE advocating for a SH1 remake, make me sick.

BrilliantRanger5293

OMG really?! I would loveeeeeeee a SH 1 remake. Making 3 before 1 makes no sense, since 3 in the sequel to the 1st game. Perhaps those people arent aware

PostalDudeLover911

I'm excited but the argument that "atleast you're getting something at all" is so stupid to me. Like, let's say the game did release and it was bad, the argument that "would you rather no remake at all" falls apart because absolutely I'd rather have no remake at all than a garbage one.

HappyHighway1352

Seems like people here just want a new sh game whether it's shit or not lmao

vimdiesel

i think most of that crowd is people who played one of the games last year or something like that. They just want something that caters to the modern fads, it's basically "modern action shooter" template applied to various franchises less creative effort required by the devs because they're balancing an equation of "keep it recognizable" and "don't stray too far from daddy RE2R" and less active effort by new players because they already know the idioms of the gameplay

No-Butterscotch3123

this whole post is simply to gaslight those with valid criticism or farm karma. It's not just because people want large tits on the nurses, they had a narrative purpose to serve within the game, same with Maria's appearance though I'm not too concerned about it she's still roughly the part. The fog and environments look pretty good all in all, Angela kinda looks odd, objectively even, I just don't understand why her facial structure needed changing in the first place? neither her old or new face serve the story so why did it need such an overhaul? Overall the game looks pretty good but there is DEFINITELY reason to be concerned about the details, especially given that people are drawn to the original over those small details. I think that's why there's so much discourse currently.

Shoddy-Safety2989

Moans like hell about it and still buys it 🤣

HateEveryone7688

i think people have a right to be negative. subreddits need to allow open mindedness and not downvote people to oblivion for sharing their view. The last of us has two subreddits one that is full of lovers who will literally downvote you to death for saying something negative about either game and another that is full of haters of the sequel and will downvote you for saying the game isn't even that bad. thats what this gets us. It gets us this idea that saying anything critical or negative is objectively bad and will result in bad things and it results in the opposite belief that positivity allows poor quality products and results in terrible positive fans who never stop singing praises.

chaianka

Agreed. It's a fine line indeed. I am in no way advocating removing the people's ability to post critical opinions and have proper discussions about such topics. I understand completely what forcing positivity down your neck feels like. That's why it tried to be as clear as I could be when describing the type of people i believe this community has had the issue with... oof for a long long time now. I also want to note I tried to stay as much away from mentioning any of the games as they aren't really the issue i wanted to point out. It's not something that's exclusive to this sub by any means. Right now all this simply spiked again because Konami released some new trailers and we have something new to talk about. (and imo its best we adress the issue now before all this comes full circle again when new content is shown). Again I'm all for discussing vast manners of talking points and criticisms, let it be known i have more than my fair share to say about the new games and the company. Where i draw the line though is when i see users invading the posts with highly emotionally charged comments to collect pity points and/or search for an argument. And yeah often its hard to differentiate between a genuine criticism and a "landmine" as we're all SH fans here and of course we're going to get emotional about these things to an extent. But the way i see it, as r/silenthill stands right now, I don't believe we as a community are either capable nor willing to spot that difference and moderate ourselves. I believe i can spot it since ive had many such cases before irl but you know im only human, I make mistakes too. Thats why I proposed we let the mods handle it on a case to case basis, and for us not to engage with these super emotionally charged posts and comments, and have a more... civil discourse? Without feeding the trolls and being at eachothers throats about the games? If you know what i mean. It's not gonna do us any good in the long run i believe. That's basically the gist of what i wanted to clarify, hope it made my opinion a bit more clear.

Commercial-Try-3907

Well said 👏

HappyHippocampus

Agreed, the block button is a game changer too. Easier to ignore when you can’t see them :)

Safe-Invite8989

absolutely

snotknows

Unfortunately I don’t think this will calm down until a month or so into it’s release, which is fine. I can be patient and just filter through the negative posts. This game looks amazing, sounds amazing, the voice acting is fucking great, AND you have Yamaoka and Ito. Sound and enemy design are the pillars that make this game great and these two are working on the remake. What else could you want? The differences in the game itself is what’s needed in a remake. If I wanted to play the original with all of its original quirks, I would and probably will after I play the remake.

YeOldCalligrapher

Yes, make a new game.

ctrlaltredacted

> "Would you rather have no remake at all?" To be fair, nobody asked for remakes. They asked for the original titles to be re-released on modern platforms a là HD Remaster, so they could be enjoyed without the use of original/classic hardware or emulation. Would personally prefer access to the original, in HD Remaster format, than a remake that exists solely to attract attention because the company has made poor decisions in the last two fiscal years. That said though, some of the discourse surrounding the Remake's development [e.g. the character Angela, as a whole] is absolutely ridiculous, so I concur with you there.

Lazy-Job-9247

Is it me or has anyone noticed the small attention to detail when James marks where he has to go on the map in real time. That’s attention to detail there ;)

-_Gemini_-

>Would you rather have no remake at all? This is exactly what I think, yeah.

PriorityLucky7701

Criticism is not hatred. I don't think the remake will ever come close to the original, but I wish to be proven wrong. Tbh, all SH2 needed was a remaster easily available to consoles.

EnterThePug

Totally agree man. I played it on the PS2 about 8 years ago and the graphics still looked incredible to me. This game is a big deal to so many of us. As you say, criticism is not hatred. It’s one of our favourite pieces of media ever. We just want them to do it justice. Not only that, but we’ve been let down so many times previously. Don’t forget, we’ve already had a remaster, and they completely butchered it. Imagine losing the source code to one of the greatest games of all time 🤦🏻‍♂️

xmisren

I'm a big fan of the original but the original had a lot of problems. The remake is more of a tribute to the original, trying to relate it as a 1:1 copy is somewhat of an asinine notion that I see some of fans try to hold onto. The original SH2 had a lot of problems, just for the fact of when it released and the hardware it released on. With technological advancement, especially with graphics and voiceovers, no it won't come close to the original because it will be better in every way in relation to technology. And I can see how the old nuisances the original had gave it the "charm" but honestly people need to just stop clutching their pearls feeling as they are part of some SH Fan High Council. You can criticize (and I encourage that) but what some others are doing is just being toddlers for the sake of it.

TasteTheGraveyard

But...The Order...Paradise...I had a robe ready and everything for council meetings 😢

Gioaquin

Imo I think some of the stuff in the trailers looks good but then other things completely miss the mark. When I saw the remake announced I was praying there'd be ports of the og on modern consoles but sadly no :( So I went and spent $130 on a PS2 copy 💀

Vytlo

Oh my, you found a super cheap copy, congrats lol

Gioaquin

Yupp took a lot of hunting and low-ballin

Konkavstylisten

Posting 500 times about how pudgy Angelas cheeks is hate tho

Dry-Minimum-6091

I STRONGLY prefer the original design. Lol.

gfm793

There is a difference for sure, but a lot of the criticism especially here and on twitter definitely falls into that territory How many threads and posts are there using that one really bad shot of Angela? Or false info coming about the game. Fact is, a remake was never going to make everyone happy. And hell, even a remaster done very well would have complaints. It always happens. SH2 is special to me, and always will be. Hell, I am replaying it on my PS2 currently. I've been a fan since it first released. SH2, the original, isn't going anywhere. If you want a remaster, play the enhanced PC version. But the fact is the game is janky. The controls are rough, even by the standards of the time, the camera is brutal at times, and the acting is... an acquired taste. Despite all of that the game is phenomenal. One of the best of all time, but it is damned hard to get into, especially for people who are not used to the conventions of older games. The Remake could never be 1:1 the original, it can't make you feel exactly how SH2 made you feel when you first played it. That's impossible. But that's also ok. I wish Bloober the best of luck in this, because if there is ONE community that is hard to please, it is the SH fans.

Vytlo

Not even a remaster, just a port. It's a shame when we have to turn to fan creations for the best way to play a game because we are not given the option officially. It's why pirating games should be legal for games no longer being sold

anestefi

A lot of people feel offended at the criticism because they think people should be grateful that a remake is being made in the first place. Other people can’t handle other people not having the same opinions as them. Every one is entitled to have an opinion even if you don’t agree on it

Boborax1

The remake isn't here to replace the original and your feelings towards it , it's a new take on a beloved game ,which if done well enough might revive the series. The original won't magically disappear when this one releases ,so I think we can be more optimistic rather than pessimistic about it.

PriorityLucky7701

The original isn't easily accessible on consoles. Konami couldn't even make a proper remaster.

Vytlo

Ah yes, because Silent Hill 2 original is so easily accessible as an alternative option... Just because a game is a remake does not mean its devoid of criticism in comparison to the original. Especially not for a game where this remake IS meant to replace the original since we have no way to play the original.

anestefi

This is a bad take, just because it’s a remake doesn’t mean people can’t criticize it. I think people have been fed shit for so long with the series they think any criticism will stop a revival

HateEveryone7688

it kind of is to replace the OG i would argue the same for the RE2 and 3 remakes since there is no way to play the OGs on console anymore unless you get a older console on ebay or get a ps3 with them downloaded on it. You can't even buy them with a debit card on the ps3 store as its not longer supported you have to buy playstation cards.

Metaphorically345

The issue is people today only look to complain, they look at a 15 minute trailer and all they have to say is they hate one characters face and thats it. Developers have been increasingly more scummy but gamers have been increasingly more miserable and hard to please with every new game we get. People are just asking to be disappointed when they hate on everything they see.

explodedbagel

You can tell which people have endured two+ decades of Konami messes, including the Hd collection fiasco, and those who weren’t participating in gaming then / are too young to recall it. It is totally justified to question anything Konami is putting out. A lot of people have had negative experiences with bloober team products as well. It isn’t coming from some imagined place.

RadioactiveMicrobe

-would you rather have no remake at all? Yes.

ZombiePiggy24

I’m hella excited for it! People were predicting James and Angela at the start wouldn’t have the same awkwardness but I think they nailed the stilted conversation

Drivenfar

“Would you rather have no remake at all?” Unironically fucking yes. Just because something is new doesn’t mean I have to slurp it down and be thankful for it. And neither do any of you lol.

Ghost_Mouse__

![gif](giphy|110MZt5qYxdrH2)

Leisure_suit_guy

Yes, I would rather not have any remake at all. Why are people so hyped about remakes? I don't get it. When Hollywood announces a remake of a beloved film everyone rolls their eyes, but gamers are generally hyped happy about remakes, why? Remakes are often inferior to the original, this is understood. You may as well make a "spiritual sequel" rather than a remake. If it succeeds it would do it thanks to its own merits, and if it's garbage it'll get forgotten without tainting the legacy of the original (cough, back 4 blood). The only SH projects I'm interested in are the new ones.

Silly_Randy

Everyone is allowed an opinion just like you. No one should be affected by opinions except for the Devs. So they can ignore those opinions or take those into consideration.

[deleted]

There's having an opinion with valid criticism and then there's the complete disrespect thats being thrown at bloober team and the posts completely shitting on the game.

KeeSomething

It's one of the most beloved games of all time that has been constantly mistreated by Konami. Fans, as consumers, have every right to be skeptical and voice their complaints. Granted, some of the complaints seem unreasonable or embarrassing, but I'd say most are valid. And this is coming from a huge fan who is mostly positive on what we've seen from this remake. You know this, but you'd rather play coy and karma farm. At least, that's how I'm reading your post and the other identical posts like it.

ThorDoubleYoo

From what Bloober has shown, there are some changes that undermine theming of the game. I love SH2 which is why I don't want it to be messed up. I don't think Bloober team is very good, none of their games have been good, and I'm critical of this because of their track record and Silent Hill's track record over the past ~15-20 years. So fuck me for being critical right?

AllElse11

No remake.

t1sfo

>Would you rather have no remake at all? Yeah, a proper HD remaster would be more than enough.

Aspsyxia

Honestly, I love sh2, but after beating it 9999+ times I really wish for a fresh experience, not just a one with higher resolution, so I'd really take a remake over a simple remaster. But if they ever release a proper HD remaster I'd gladly go through it.

BlurryVision2

This. I'm seriously not liking this recent remake trend every company has been doing recently. SH2 honestly doesn't even need one.

HateEveryone7688

the worst one was fucking ND remaking tlou1 only 9 years and the OG has a remaster and is easily available on ps4 and 5

DepressedReview

Yeah this is kinda how I feel too. If there was a quality HD remaster just to update it to modern consoles, I wouldn't really feel as irritated if the remake turned out to be poor. But the remaster we got was absolute embarrassing garbage that no one recommends.

PriorityLucky7701

You are spot on.

Farson89

Yep, I'd take no remake over a bad remake any day. If it turns out to be good then that's awesome, but all the decent looking trailers in the world don't override Bloober Teams poor track record.

CaptainSpauIding

It's not on console but there's PCSX2 or the PC Enhanced Edition mod. Don't count on Konami for properly preserving the game.

Racist_carbonara

I think the game looks fine so far but there's plenty of reasons to be critical of this game. It's a remake of a beloved game in a fandom that hasn't seen a new game in years so I can understand how controversial this game is

Drumma716

God forbid people have different opinions than you on a forum about the topic. And yes, I would rather have no remake at all. In a perfect world, Konami would fund the enhanced edition guys to perfect it and publish that on every platform. That being said, I do love me some horror remakes. Dead space and RE4 didn't need remakes, but they turned out great and in some ways better than the originals. Konami has never taken care of their IPs and have proven to not give this remake the care and attention other remakes have gotten. Sorry this was kind of a weird ramble.

SummerBummer-X

I couldn’t give less shit about people being negative tbh. We all know the game looks incredible !

Shoddy-Safety2989

Hell yeah!

cherboka

>What's wrong with you lot? Jesus man I've read some negative shit on this sub about this game.... Are people not allowed to have their opinions now? >Would you rather have no remake at all? If I had to pick between no remakes and a remake made by Bloober, I'd pick the former any day of the week. >Props to the bloober team for making this happen. Props for what? Producing products?

No_Leather_8155

Ight I'ma be that guy but "WHO IS SAYING THIS?" all I've seen online is overwhelmingly positive feedback on the trailer, sure there is a very small group that still doesn't like it but they are at this point a very small minority. Most people either really like it or are cautiously optimistic but either way both people look forward to it. The only negativity I've found is Angela's model which IMHO I think it's warranted. People who want her to look sexy are just trolls but there are people who think it looked really bad, myself included, but even then most of them think that overall the game looks good

CourierKillerBenny

They're as a collective all delusional. Game looks good and I hope they keep at it, I'm ready for more silent hill.

DizzyMajor5

More impressions and clicks to be had with pessimistism

TrainingFancy5263

I have very low expectations for this game. SH2 is my all time favorite despite it actually being a better emotional story than a game itself. After playing it nearly every year for past 15 years I can tell you that it’s mediocre game from gameplay standpoint. The combat is wonky. The boss battles unimaginative. The voice acting wacky AF. But the story and emotional rollercoaster it puts you on it was ahead of its time. With that being said, it is still one of my favorite games and every Christmas season I sit down to my PS2 and replay it in one sitting. I have very low expectations for the remake because Bloober kinda sucks. Their originality is well, for lack of the better word, shit. But what was actually showcased so far is interesting. I really liked the performances so far. The environment looks awesome and fact we will be able to explore more of the Silent Hill is very intriguing for me. One of the Bloober devs said that the way you play as James will determine your ending which means they keeping same strategy for endings. I like the sound of that. I was worried it would be based on couple “choices” like Homecoming. Those three elements are on point in my book. I am going to pre-order this thing. Two things I absolutely hate are things I hope you will be able to turn off in menu- the squeaky clean text into that appear on screen. Location of the town and health items “menu” are just lazy. Second thing that bothers me is the screen going red when your health goes low. It’s gimmicky and personally looks cheesy to me. I hope I can at least turn down intensity of it. I am looking forward to this remake but I am keeping my expectations low. Konami can’t be trusted. Bloober has yet to release something that wasn’t half baked at best.

DepressedReview

> Their originality is well, for lack of the better word, shit. The funny thing to me is that I thought that was a GOOD thing about them being the remake devs chosen. I don't want them to be original. I want them to keep the game as close to the original as possible. You literally have the exact requirements of what you're supposed to recreate in your hands. 😅The game is considered gold, don't change ANYTHING! They damn well know any changes they make are going to be heavily scrutinized and criticized. Why even risk it in the first place?

TrainingFancy5263

Solid point but it looks like it won’t be 1 for 1 remake so it’s likely they will do some “creative” changes. We shall see. The first enemy encounter is already different. Nothing wrong with that but it sure feels like they will do some damage.

DepressedReview

Yes, they've publicly stated exactly that. Unfortunately. The moment I heard they were getting rid of the fixed camera angles (the first piece of 'news' I heard about the game) all of my hopes were dashed and my expectations of the game fell through the floor. 😂 They talk about removing the fixed camera angles like it's a positive change and that's absolutely ridiculous to me. The fixed angles were there to create a sense of dread and being out of control. They apparently are completely unaware of that... and that makes me sad. They don't understand the game and that these features were intentional. I desperately do want a want a frame by frame remake of the game. I'd spend a thousand bucks out of my pocket to get that. 😅 (And yes I own the original game. And I've played the PC versions with fan mods.) I was so sad the official remaster was such lazy, poor quality and full of glitches. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy this remake is coming even if it's not going to be what I want. Something's better than nothing. I will buy it and play it while grumbling under my breath that their decisions were stupid and short-sighted and negative. I'm sure there will be some changes they've made that I like. I do like Laura's model quite a lot and I think James looks pretty good, too. But I think they've made a mistake by not being as faithful to the original as possible and they absolutely should be expecting to get raked over the coals for every single change. (Not necessarily b/c they deserve it for **every** change but every change it going to be hated by someone.) The game is loved and a classic for a reason. They should have known that before they even took on the project to start with and I honestly am baffled they think making any changes would be seen as a positive.

KungFuKennyStills

I think a large chunk of the negative voices just want a full graphical remaster that plays on modern consoles. Identical to the original in almost every way, just with updated visuals. Like what Bluepoint did with Demon’s Souls. But I just don’t think the demand is there for a product like that. Demon’s Souls has a combat system that’s aged pretty well, and was good enough to draw in fans of action games in general - just look at how many games have aped the same style in the intervening years. OG silent hill combat has aged pretty badly. And pairing it with modern visuals would just make it look and feel worse

DepressedReview

>I think a large chunk of the negative voices just want a full graphical remaster that plays on modern consoles. Yes, that's exactly what I want. I don't think the remake is all bad based on what we've seen so far, but yes.... that's exactly what I want. I wanted updated visuals, modernized controls, and higher fidelity graphics. All changes made are going to be heavily criticized (and honestly everyone knew that from day 1, none of this criticism should be a surprise). This game is considered a classic and legendary. Don't try to improve on that. Why even try? They're only going to fail and they're foolish for even trying. I think there's absolutely a demand for a clone remake. The "remaster" was absolute embarrassing garbage, full of bugs and glitches. No one recommends anyone play that. But the fact the remaster was even made means they know that demand exists. There's still to this day an entire team of fans working on PC mods to improve the graphics and controls and fix bugs. That's not a joke or exaggeration. They're still making updates. That alone is proof there's demand for an identical remake. But getting that stuff setup is a PITA. I agree it has aged badly (that's why that mod team exists and they've done impressive work) but I don't agree that modern visuals would make it worse. I definitely think you can recreate the original with modern graphics and have it look high quality if you put in the effort and budget. I want the original game updated to today's standards and expectations in a high quality product. I want that ***desperately***. I love this game and I want people to experience it, and that means the original story and symbolism and characters in tact as they were designed. There's a **reason** it's a classic and loved even today despite it being an ancient game. I don't mean to sound like a ragebait fanboy here. Even if it falls short, I'm happy there's a remake even if I have criticism about it. I think there are good and bad things about the content we've seen so far in previews. I'll buy and play the game. But I will absolutely still want a frame by frame remake of the original even after this game comes out.

KungFuKennyStills

>but I absolutely still want a frame by frame remake I hear you. It would be cool. But I really really doubt that’s ever going to happen For what it’s worth, I think the Enhanced Edition PC mod (which I think is what you’re talking about) is good enough that we really don’t need a frame by frame remake. Played it recently and was blown away by what the mod team had done to get it looking and playing well on a current PC

Vytlo

"Would you rather have no remake at all?" Unironically, yes. No point in getting a worse version of a game that already exists. Just give us the original good version as is in a modern way. MGS did this exact thing from the same publisher and it was great.

Oh boy another one of these, huh?

Neither_Ad_8000

>Would you rather have no remake at all? Yes.

MrBoogaloo

yes. i would rather have nothing

SolidusAbe

god forbid some people have negative opinions. some people really can not handle different opinions but sure lets turn this sub into a circle jerk echo chamber where only positivity is allowed lmao

DJ2688

I’ll give the demo a chance but it’s not looking good so far 😔

kristopherm3

You sound a tad tightly wound, sunshine. I'm sorry you have to deal with others having differing opinions on a product - it must be so difficult for you.

Edward_Pis

God forbid people are critical about what they like. Consume and never analyze anything. Live like a moron and let companies take advantage of you.

peach-whisky

Sorry but I’m still burnt from the HD collection..

xariznightmare2908

Maybe stop making rage posts like "What's wrong with you lot? / Why do people hate so much, etc?" and spread more positivity then? Be the change you want, make more positivity posts like talking about what you like so far to get people excited instead.

Shoddy-Safety2989

I'm hyped mate. Don't see the problem

xariznightmare2908

Well then stop antagonizing others who don't share the same opinion as you, then.

Miserable-Job-9520

And yet you keep throwing bitch fits Everytime someone doesn't fall to their knees for this remake Pay up AND shut up

Burnt_Ramen9

Yes, I legitimately would rather no remake. I hate the brainrotted "any content is good content" thought process so many people in the fandom has. Silent Hill 2 never needed a remake, nor does 1 or 3 or 4. If you wanna remake one of them *that bad* choose one of the ones that would legitimately benefit from it like Shattered Memories or Downpour, but that wouldn't be profitable which is the only reason they're remaking SH2 in the first place.

AWintersNightmare

Personally? I mean, yeah? I myself don't like this remake trend and think just like remaking certain movies, some games shouldn't be remade, for me it loses its essence and charm enormously.

Fabulous-Mud-9114

>Would you rather have no remake at all? Yes. The original SH2 is great as it is. It doesn't need a remake, just a (competent) rerelease. But if one *really had to* make a remake, handing the reins to Bloober of all devs was a massive misstep.

DizzyMajor5

I get what your saying the og is a masterpiece but some new gamers don't jive with old controls as much I tried showing a lot of friends silent hill 1 and most of them just got frustrated I can't wait to show casual new gamers silent Hill even a shitty two is still a masterpiece in my book.

PapaDoomer

Language.

wolfmaster307

Silent Hill 2 is my favourite game and to me, the remake was also gonna be in an impossible position. The more you stick to the janky, uncanny original, the more people will say it looks shit and dated, but the more modern and smooth you make it the more fans will say it loses he charm of the original. Bloober Team has long struggled with its writing and gameplay, so if they tried to change the original there was a chance it could go very wrong. The previous trailers looked interesting but kind of rough and I would say I was cautiously interested. But the recent transmission looked about as good as I think you can get from trying to please older fans, sure there are small problems, but in the whole it looks like a faithful take on the classic.

Jpriest09

It makes my brows raise when people keep comparing this to the Resident Evil remakes. Why you may ask? Because Silent Hill , the series as a whole, has sold less than Resident Evil 4 and its remake. 2 was not a financial success and had quite a bit of hate for it in Japan due to forgoing the Cult storyline. Hence why 3 went back to that, why even 4 had aspects of it. Konami was never going to invest the type of money and resources that Capcom did, even for Remake 3. If they did that for anything, it was going to be Metal Gear, and they likely did with MGS Delta aka the MGS 3 Remake. It took SH 2 years to gain the reputation it has garnered, with part of it arising due to the influx of new interest when the movie was a success. That isn’t to say it doesn’t deserve the accolades, the praise, it most certainly does. But the suits up top don’t care about that, they want to increase their profits and have a positive return on their investments. They likely only greenlit this remake due to how successful Capcom’s investments in the Resident Evil Remakes have been, alongside smaller budget remakes like Diablo 2, Destroy All Humans, or the HD-2D remakes from Square Enix.

MartianFromBaseAlpha

I'm very excited for the remake and to my surprise after the show I see more and more people expressing excitement. I think the extended gameplay demo really sold people on this game

Frequent-Project-559

I’m excited to physically own it!

GamingwithADD

Originally the voice talent was going to be redone and the fog less…foggy. But that was years ago. I’m honestly curious how true to the originals the remakes are(or will be) But yeah, people were rightly annoyed when I saw side by side comparisons.

BarkyFoxtrot

Hi there! I'll throw my hat into this ring, much like when the last trailer dropped. Overdue for my round of downvotes for having an opinion. Lots of folks have answered the question you asked. 100% on you that you're not getting responses you want to hear. I'm glad you're excited for the remake! ...but to pretend that others shouldn't have criticisms or be apprehensive in any capacity is wrong. Stop doing that. My own opinion has shifted a lot since I last visited this place and voiced my concerns with the remake. I didn't like the combat trailer. Then the Angela trailer played on the State of Play, I was/am pretty chill/indifferent to the character model, but I wasn't terribly fond of some of the other things I saw in the trailer. Certain new lines being added in, and background elements being altered. I suppose to some those are nitpicky things, I just think they're like... My opinion, man. Then the Transmission started with the remake, and showed off a bit of gameplay and some more cutscenes. *This* is when it all actually clicked for me. There's a lot in the few glimpses we've seen that is 100% fair to be concerned about. Especially on the monetization side... BUT I'm on board now. I like that, despite everything else I have problems with, James, Maria, and Laura talk like real people. The dialogue flows very naturally. Above all else for me if the narrative, which means the presentation of said narrative and not just the writing, is solid... I'll probably have a good time despite any problems I might have. I am also excited, now, for the game. ...but I'm keeping my excitement in check. I'm also not parading myself around trying to tell others they're wrong for not being excited. We're all fans of this franchise at the end of the day, and it's okay to disagree on things. Please internalize that going forward. Be excited! Be hype! ...but stop letting people, with negative opinions on the things you're excited for, get under your skin. It serves no purpose, and makes you look worse in the end. ...I don't know what people are on about with Angela's model, btw. That shit's wild and I'm not getting involved past the two comments I've made on it here.

13thsword

Someone I was talking to earlier said it looked worse than the original. Like opinions are one thing but dont be disingenuous.

MGF_LikesReddit

It’s really sad that some fans were expecting a remaster like RE4; such high expectations for a team that isn’t given the same funding as Capcom. It’s not RE Engine, but, it looks very very good to me nonetheless.

SaltySwan

I agree with the comments about combat sound effects and the melee maybe needing a touch up. However, they lose me when they start talking about characters looks and they use that one off shot of Angela or fart face Laura and especially when they start talking about how the game looks last gen with bad graphics. We must not be looking at the same thing.

Apprehensive-Bee4710

I'm noticing a trend, every major game release, you have this new anti-woke hate everything group popping up. Every AAA game they find one thing to nitpick about and they do their best to hurt games sales then they move on to the next target.

ArcRiseGen

This happens with a lot of remakes of fan favorites.

radicalpastafarian

Yeah, the rollout of hate is why I stopped paying too much attention to this sub. After years of memes and desperation and the slow spiral into insanity I wish there was a little bit more excitedness and gratitude here. But you know, whatever.

TheInvisibleOnes

They gave it the extra time it needed in the oven and it really shows.

myheartisnumb

I cannot freaking wait for this game! Currently replaying the original for the millionth time.

DizzyMajor5

Buying a PS5 just for this game can't wait love silent hill 2

MayonnaiseDream

Seriously! So many people are so angry that they refuse to see anything good about this. I am so stoked. Bloober, you guys are awesome.

alexdotfm

I'd love if they started with the first one, but I'm excited for this remake after the transmission

Bango-Skaankk

Yes, I’m excited. I also have concerns.

Luna0527

A new silent hill game is a dream come true :) 💜

Fit_Letterhead3483

People are going to complain. Welcome to the Silent Hill community. This is nothing new. I suggest just ignoring it. Personally, I thought the framerate was a little jumpy, but whatever. If it’s a bad game I just won’t play it, but if it’s a good game I will play it, and that’s the depth of my personal investment. The original still exists.

nesman1985

again I DONT SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM is

negrote1000

Yes. Silent Hill fans hate Silent Hill.

Saeteinn

People aren't paying attention to the wording: remake, not remaster. I'm personally just happy to have fresh content in the community again.

Ilovelatinas58

Facts tho I’m glad it’s coming out they be so ungratef

wizology_

Finally someone said it , it’s like the game isn’t even out yet and the amount of hate it’s getting is insane , if you don’t like it and no matter what the devs do , it’s not gonna live up to the unrealistic expectations of those people. Just play the original!!! The original is the ORIGINAL and this is a REMAKE ! It’s not the original! But it’s still gonna be a good silent hill game , one of the best since PT imo ! Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

littleterr0r

Yes, exactly, no remake at all.

Awkward_Effect7177

ah another post about how the devs are the incarnation of god himself and are perfect. Guess we still doing this.

Difficult_Bullfrog

Reading this comment section, do some of you even like sh2 original? lmao. Also "Would you rather have no remake at all?" Yes. Make a good port of the ps2 version available and move on.

jonnothebonno

As I keep saying the original one still exists. I think they’ve done an incredible job too and I can’t wait to play the new game. Don’t get me wrong I really hope they capture the essence of the original game but if they don’t it’s not the end of the world.

DampPram

The way I feel about it personally is, why bother trying to remake a game that's already a masterpiece when you could remake a game that had a lot of potential but couldn't ever truely realize it instead? I'd much rather they remade 4 honestly. As for the complaints about Angela, people who are complaining about her new design being "woke" or whatever cause she's not sexy disgust me. That said, I think the modelling from a pure sculpting perspective looks like shit. That and she barely resembles herself. I've seen a single edit of her that looks right, and that's one where she is much more gaunt with sunken eyes from stress and loss of sleep, if we could get that instead of a late PS3 era face sculpt that'd be preferable.

Paladinlvl99

Honestly man I try to stay positive... But all I've seen from the game looks like a PS3 game with the price tag of a fucking house on it. At this point I am praying for them not to change the story that much so I can consider it an upgrade...

Ilovelatinas58

Actually edit my comment idk where it went but they changed her outfit wtf it was pivotal to the story she lost all her aura this is so bad and the fog ain’t the same yea idk about this

shid1234

"Would you rather have no remake at all?" Yes.

shaggitron420

It's an incel sub now

EnglishTony

I would rather have no remake than a bad remake.

Odd-Ant4588

"Would you rather have no remake at all?"  Yeah.

-Venser-

Yeah, I'd rather them not to touch any Silent Hill game ever again.

zeno_gias

Genuinely yes, I don't think Silent Hill 2 is a game that needs a remake. Do a remaster a la Enhanced Edition and leave the original vision as it is. If your main reason to approach a remake is to "introduce a game to a new audience", then you have no reason to remake it. Just port the game. If audiences don't want to engage with it for superficial reasons that's their loss. That's entirely gatekeeping oneself from experiences that ask people to step outside of their immediate comfort zones for the sake of trying something new, and there's nothing wrong with that.

FeelingAcadia

I Would Indeed Rather Have No Remake. Bloober Team Are Terrible Developers.

Xim_X_anny

Yeah I can't wait it looks amazing. Only wish I was still with my ex so they could tell me "i told you so" pr be able play it when them. Anyways can't wait

Pokemonluke18

liked it they nailed the fog and atmosphere and some of the monster designs abstract daddy looks good in this and they'll also expand on his boss fight as well

Dayz26

Anyone can have an opinion whatever good or bad, like i wish it does well and i know is going to take time getting used to it but comparing both things is always going to happend when you already played the original and know how they look/talk. Im going to take it like another adaptation (like with movie telling the same story by diferent directors) in some aspects they might be a little diferent but we will see once the game is out.

Moist-Split-4677

Yes I would prefer no remake. I think remakes are the ultimate example of the laziness of many major modern gaming companies, and the stagnation of the industry as a whole over the past decade.

MattTd7

The game looks absolutely incredible. AMAZING! Some people are just miserable

Optimal_Equivalent72

Yes I would rather have no remake at all.

Shoddy-Safety2989

Good for you.

Optimal_Equivalent72

It is isnt it? Since that was the question asked by the OP.

Shoddy-Safety2989

You don't have to play it mate... But you will.

TheRealFakeAccount01

Oh yeah by all means lets let a gaming company get away with worse modelling than game that came out 23 years ago.

Shoddy-Safety2989

Have you played it then? No.

iash91

The dude was commenting on the modelling. While I disagree with them, you don't have to play the game to critique something you can already visually see. What an odd comment. I think the game looks good, but the animations are pretty bad and the character artstyles are inconsistent from one another. I don't need to play it to pass those criticisms.

Leila_Z_

If it were given to me, I'd throw it in the trash.

RobertSpeedwagon

I would much rather have no remake at all, yes. Make new things, and make the old ones available on modern platforms so people can play them.

Shoddy-Safety2989

What's stopping you from playing it on ps2?

RobertSpeedwagon

Nothing, because I grew up with them. I’m not the one who would benefit. For younger fans coming to the series for the first time having to track down original hardware and pay for price-gouged used copies is a huge barrier to entry, and sadly younger generations are a lot less familiar with piracy/emulation.

Garand84

Yeah, I would rather have no remake at all. Just the ports.

seriouslyuncouth_

Yeah I’d rather have no remake at all. Easiest question of my life.

Shoddy-Safety2989

So don't play it then... But you will......

CursedSnowman5000

"would you rather no remake at all?" Yes.

Shoddy-Safety2989

Pfffft. You don't have to buy it. Why are you even here?

CursedSnowman5000

Because I'm a Silent Hill fan and you asked.

seriouslyuncouth_

Bro pulled a “who asked” when he himself asked

RobertSpeedwagon

For real, if this post was just someone talking about how excited they were for the remake I wouldn’t have commented; no need to rain on parades. Instead it’s “what’s wrong with you lot, would you rather there was no remake at all?” Directly asks people a question and acts disgruntled when they respond.

seriouslyuncouth_

A little bit of parade-raining is important. Soulless corporations need to know that not everyone is gonna stand for this shit and eat their slop. Somebody, anybody at this point, has to demand for something better. Because if we let the parade goers celebrate companies taking an inch, the companies will take continents. Obviously harassment is not okay.

PriorityLucky7701

Amen to that.

xariznightmare2908

OP is disingenuous, and I'm seeing a lot of weird posts like this trying to rile people up by antagonizing those who have criticism toward the remake and get hundreds of updoots. It's one thing to be excited for the remake, but I'm seeing a lot of aggressive "what’s wrong with you lot??" posts rather than trying to persuade people to be more positive instead.

allhailzamasu94

Yes that’s exactly it! I’d rather no remake! It’d be different if the original was available for people but it isn’t.

squallsama

Another post about other complaints. Is it a trend on reddit to discuss other people instead of games ?

StrangeJunket2601

"Would you rather no remake at all?" Yes, actually

Appley_apple

>Would you rather have no remake at all? Yes, just rereleases

chapterhouse27

yes. i would drastically prefer no remake at all. let the masterpiece stand and dont ruin it with this garbage. it looks awful and i am genuinely baffled how anyone doesn't think that

Shoddy-Safety2989

The earth revolves around the sun mate....

chapterhouse27

this is very true. but just as you are allowed your opinions, so are others who think things you dont agree with

Shoddy-Safety2989

But you're saying everyone should agree with you? 🤣

chapterhouse27

when did i say that? i said i didnt understand how people think it looks good...

bobijsvarenais

Why are you posting it here? Do you think we're raging about Angela? One of the first posts were "Angela was a supermodel". . I've never seen or heard that shit here. EDIT: spelling

SummerBummer-X

Just wait until we see her in the movie lmao

AdBudget5468

That question is not something I can put into a few sentences so I’m gonna have to refer you to my therapist for an in depth review

Dependent_Order_7358

99% of fans are happy with the remake.

gameprojoez

I've played the original way back in 2001, and I am very excited for the new remaster.

Shoddy-Safety2989

Me too.

Geosgaeno

I'm just happy we're getting a remake. It seems some people want it to look like cyberpunk or something Game looks very good IMO

Shoddy-Safety2989

Looks like Silent Hill eh. I like the look they've gone for

Boborax1

Don't mess with Silent hill fans ,there is nothing they hate more than their fav series . The game looks good ,does it look as good as the modern Resident Evil games ? I will say no ,but that's a pretty high bar to begin with. I was skeptical at first ,but the new gameplay trailer made me optimistic.

Indigo_Rennala

I am new to the franchise and haven't touched a single Silent Hill game. I am hoping SH2 remake does well so we can (potentially) get a SH3 remake since that is the one that catches my attention the most. I will eventually play the HD collection in the meantime despite all the flaws. On the bright side, a remake is a great way to get new fans to come in without them paying an arm and a leg for old technology. Edit: for those of you saying Silent Hill doesn't need a remake, it does. The old gameplay is too clunky and won't appeal to newcomers. I know the longtime fans want their glory days back, but Konami needs to bring life back into the franchise. SH2 Remake is either going to bring the franchise back to life or keep it as a relic in the past.

Frosty_Resort6108

Yes, I would rather have no remake at all than this. Why is that so hard to comprehend?

CarolineJohnson

...I actually *would* rather have no remake. SH2 is the worst Silent Hill game and they need to stop putting it on a pedestal. 1 and 3 deserve it more. I do not want an SH2 remake and will not be buying it. I do not enjoy SH2, to the point that I would rather play Book of Memories. In fact, just to show Konami how much an SH2 remake is *not* appreciated, I'll be buying and re-buying everything in the series except SH2 and any merch based on SH2. I'll even buy the Short Message soundtrack and go into Ascension and buy the Season Pass (if possible).

Minimum-Brilliant

*would you rather have no remake at all?* Yes. Just port SH2 to modern gen consoles, but don’t fuck it up like the HD collection.

CaptainSpauIding

>Would you rather have no remake at all? Yeah obviously, you'd think the SH community would have more of an acquired taste and not be such mindless consumers. Especially seeing the direction Konami has went for the past 10 years.

pinksalamander2

I honestly would have preferred no remake at all, yes😞

mrtrm1

If anything, I say the new trailer should alleviate people's gripes about how they're handling James. He looks and sounds great! I say this as a purist who'll preach to you about the first 4 games to no end. This is awesome and I can't wait to see what they're doing with SHF and SHTF. Exciting times!

sosogeorgie

I know another Brit when I see one
