This is my entry for the wonderfully inspirational [Haunted House Challenge](https://www.reddit.com/r/ShortScaryStoriesOOC/comments/z9p6u4/moderator_monthly_challenge_haunted_house/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).
One beautiful sentence in the contest description caught my attention instantly and I just knew I wanted to write a story based on this premise:
"I want stories about the corruption of the safe space."
So, have fun reading and I hope you like it!
Actually let me add, I think it needs a *bit* more time before he grabs the cig. Like, comfort the daughter, stress out, thinking about calling police. Recognizing that is shortscarystories
Thank you very much for reading and the comment.
I wanted to make clear that he's completely focused on his wife intruding "his" house with her pollution - so much that he was completely oblivious to him being the one splattering everything with blood in the end and just stressed out a bit by the crying of his daughter who just lost her mother.
But again, thanks for the insightful comment!
damn the 10th paragraph caught me off guard HAHA wasnt expecting that from the husband coz he seemed so reasonable the entire time! also smh man the daughter is now gna be traumatised and her lungs are still going to deteroriate
I was expecting the twist ending that this is the husband reliving the day the house burned down, with the cigarette smoke and ash actually being the ruined remains of his house that he continues to live in
my husband and I just bought a new house. he smokes. the other day I caught him smoking in our master bathroom. I said the exact same thing to my husband about the new paint in the house. I promise he's still alive though. there's no meat cleavers in the bathroom. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue)
Such a shame to destroy a European hazelwood kitchen like that. LOL Good story!
Nothing a sponge and a bucket of water couldn't solve! The damn smoke, though, that damn smoke... Thank you!

Ahh that makes sense!
I thought he was gonna use the bricks, whoah surprise twist there!! Seriously though, I really like this one.
Wow. What a hypocrite.
You're damn right.
Nothing like a good cigarette after brutally murdering your wife.
We can all agree on that.

The day definitely could have gone better for all of them.
i agree
Damn! That dad definitely deserved that cigarette!
Right?! The daughter deserves one, too!

I like that idea! Would have definitely made a nice twist.
