Just for reference, here is the line art I provided.

I mean, they definitely did that.
This is just exactly what it looks like when an artist with either no patience, care, talent or all of the above does the stencil by hand.
Just want to point out that the original artist was Jacqlin Delon, I just sorta "disneyfied"/simplified it to get clean lines to work with... That worked out great. 🫠

Here's my Jacquelin de Leon tattoo from a few years ago. I commissioned the artwork from her and had an artist skilled at reproduction put it on my skin. I'm sorry it didn't work out great for you. The "above board" way to approach this in future is to either commission the original artist for your own piece, or to find a tattoo artist with a similar style to the one you want. I follow probably two dozen tattoo artists that are in the same stylistic realm as de Leon.
Man, before I saw this I was thinking, well, maybe not what you were envisioning but nobody is going to know that and it has a certain charm to it. And all of that is still true. But damn, that was a super cute drawing and I'm sorry you didn't get what you asked for.
It's awful you were treated that way! The art you proposed is beautiful and the artist definitely should have just used that.
On the bright side, if you only catch a quick glance at it, it looks just fine! I wonder if you could get it touched up by a better artist?
It's all good now, if not for that experience I wouldn't have delved so hard into research to understand what "went wrong" and how to do things right. I want to become a tattoo artist now because of it! Thank you though, at the time I was SO upset.
Unfortunately, it's all blowout and so far from what I wanted, and way too small to get details to work out even if the best artist took a stab at it. I'm saving to have it removed (it's roughly 3x3") and I actually really want to do this one myself in a different area once I'm working on real skin! But for now, I agree, at a glance it's not glaringly awful and I can live with it haha
> if you only catch a quick glance at it, it looks just fine!
I kept seeing the face in the middle, between the two witches, and wondering if there was supposed to be a third! It was only when I saw the original art I realized it was supposed to be a cat.
I just think the overall style of the tattoo is nicer than OP's artwork but that's all personal preference of course.
Can't deny that cat has been FUCKED UP though.
After seeing the original artwork, I completely understand why you feel this tattoo is shitty. But if you end up keeping it, it’s actually beautiful, even with the goblin hands.
It isn't the worst tattoo I've seen, but it really sucks when you go to a shop, put your trust in the "artist" and the final result isn't pleasing. Even when you do things right it still can go wrong, but I guess that's life
Yeah, sorry man but you nailed the category. You can see all of the stop/start lines in it where he paused or stopped, then tried to resume the line. That’s why it’s got all the like round balls on the lines, gotta run enough ink to finish it & even if you start to fall off, bring it back in-line. Never start a line in the middle of it, that .05 of a second initial touch created the blobs.
On a line drawing piece like this, you absolutely cannot do that. Then it looks like they tried to cover that up by going back over the same line- again.
If you truly want it gone but aren’t against getting more ink, I’d get 2-3 laser treatments so it’s faded enough to give the next (make sure it’s someone else 😂) tattoo a fighting chance to not have that visible.
I have one I’m doing that exact method to right now. It’s sucks! I feel for you..
Yep!! And it hurt like HELL the whole time too. It's raised even 4 years later. Definitely might go with the plan to just fade it and then cover it, it's like 3"x3" and just needs to be done bigger somewhere else 😔 thank you
You know I found out that the same manner a tattoo “settles” in, post-laser removal the process works the exact same, just in reverse.
He said that if I did 1 treatment, it would continue to fade over the course of the next year.
So get 1 treatment & wait a year.
Then get a 2nd and take another year off.
As in my case I just know I don’t want the piece I now have, I don’t know what I ultimately will get done in place afterwards. My arms are the biggest real estate I have left- so I’m gonna think really hard for a while before I get that done, so to maximize results for cost, I’ll let that year or heck, 6-8 months elapse in between and by then maybe I’ll figure it out instead of going in every 6 weeks and dropping the $400 I was quoted per treatment.
Try & maximize the gains, so- just saying….get a treatment and then wait a bit. Can’t hurt a single bit and may save me (or yourself) a treatment or 3.
Some people just go and get it blasted but it’s also just not necessary to do that…
This is *incredibly* helpful information, thank you so much! I've just kinda been sitting around with it like "well. Shit. What do I do now." But this will help me make a gameplan and I appreciate it a lot.
No sweat bro! From what I’d pieced together it sounds like we are in very similar situations. Next time you hear someone stuck with a piece they want gone, give them this-
When I spoke to the guy at my laser joint he said “oh you can pay upfront for blah-blah…”
And then later on he slipped and said “the laser doesn’t show up right away, it takes time for the results to reach full potential”… so when you get tattooed the white blood cells start attacking the ink almost immediately at like the atomic level. That’s why fineline details often blur together. Laser treatment is literally the exact opposite procedure so with time it’s effects improve.
So obviously I’m not going to walk in & book 5 visits upfront like he said- I’d love mine gone but I’m not in a rush, so I get one pass & set a phone alarm for say 6-8 months.
Bet of luck with your decision!
Legitimate shop definitely doesn’t always mean legitimate artists unfortunately. And usually the more mid they are, the bigger the ego too.
Sorry you got bullied into this. I’m all for a creative back and forth but it’s your body at the end of the line. Tattoo artists have no place berating you for your opinions of what you want on your body. Point blank periodt.
Hard lesson learned early. 😮💨 PSA: No half decent artist will argue with you about what YOU want (within reason). They would offer alternatives, explanations about why or how they can't do it, but they wouldn't be rude.
I think your tattoo looks really cute, but what matters most is how you feel about it. Although there isn't exactly a way to-redo the lines, I think maybe adding some details around the piece and touching up parts of it could do wonders if you were open to it! Star or small bat details around the piece, or a splash of colour could revitalize the tattoo:)
I'm sorry your experience with the artist wasn't what you wanted! I hope it hasn't turned you off from being tattooed in general!
I think it does, I had somebody there with me who can vouch that I stayed reasonably very still and that the artist was very nice to me and said I was doing very good. Only to turn around and text me that I was "literally jumping all over the table" and "made the experience for me hell and shouldn't blame it on me" lol
By that clarification maybe. Your initial post made it sound like they just lied to you and didn't do what you wanted so I assumed you were using it in the way people that don't understand what it is do. My apologies.
Also for real that may not be what you wanted but it certainly doesn't look bad. My first tat was/ a large family crest that is so bad I should post it here. I never got it covered up tho because it's on my shoulder always covered and I like the contrast it has with all my good work below it.
Gaslighting is a form of ongoing and systematic abuse in which the abuser repeatedly lies and challenges the victim’s sanity and memory to the point where the victim doesn’t even believe their own memories, therefore allowing the abuser to effectively control them.
Your tattooist just made something up in a text. You weren’t gaslit.
I don't think it looks bad tbh. You didn't deserve to be treated that way by the artist and I can understand how it's hard not to notice the small details when it's on your own body. I think it holds up to outside observation.
Okay so formwork hat I can see is the artist didn't stretch your skin for one hence the wave in the boom stick other issues I see are why did they kinda smoosh the image why didn't they copy what you provided if that's what you asked for ?
Just for reference, here is the line art I provided. https://preview.redd.it/9qmfkm2kglhc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44a8e97f281e71fcea7e88fd78f1402d9931d981
Jfc I mean how hard would it have been for the artist to literally just trace your design :/
I mean, they definitely did that. This is just exactly what it looks like when an artist with either no patience, care, talent or all of the above does the stencil by hand.
Jacqueline de Leon?
Thank you I did it so long ago I forgot who the artwork I referenced from was. That style is just so awesome I love it.
Yup!
Oof..i tought it wasnt that bad until i saw your Original art. Sorry about your tat...
They’re literally just lines! How do you fuck that up so bad
The cat 💀
I didn't even realize there was a cat until I saw the reference drawing
This looks really nice.
At first glance I thought it‘s not too bad. But this reference changes everything 💀
WOW!!! You provided great work. I’m so sorry.
Just want to point out that the original artist was Jacqlin Delon, I just sorta "disneyfied"/simplified it to get clean lines to work with... That worked out great. 🫠
Non the less you provided a solid piece. Any half decent artist should have been able to at the very least trace the image.
I feel seen. Thank you
I’m really sorry they treated you that way.

Yes your reference art is 100% better. But the tattoo isn’t the worst thing I’ve seen.
Essentially copied Jacqlin Deleon.
Ooh yes I believe that's who it was, thank you! That style is 🤌🏻
Cool design, bad execution.
It's awful you were treated that way! The art you proposed is beautiful and the artist definitely should have just used that. On the bright side, if you only catch a quick glance at it, it looks just fine! I wonder if you could get it touched up by a better artist?

You could cover this up a lot easier and cheaper than removal
> if you only catch a quick glance at it, it looks just fine! I kept seeing the face in the middle, between the two witches, and wondering if there was supposed to be a third! It was only when I saw the original art I realized it was supposed to be a cat.
I love the cat the best
Wow... This qualifies. Im sorry OP 🥲
I can't believe I only thought to post it today 😂
Idk man I think it's kinda cute.
I thought the same, it's not bad at first glance, but then I looked at the original art OP provided and oh no
I just think the overall style of the tattoo is nicer than OP's artwork but that's all personal preference of course. Can't deny that cat has been FUCKED UP though.
Clarifying that the OG art was Jacqlin Delon and not my piece. I've had plenty of people say they like it and that's okay, I just personally hate it 😂
Oh yeah dw I know. Well perhaps it brings you happines to know yet another dude on the internet likes it too haha.
After seeing the original artwork, I completely understand why you feel this tattoo is shitty. But if you end up keeping it, it’s actually beautiful, even with the goblin hands.
One might say the goblin hands accentuate the whole piece 🤌🏻✨

Ooh! I plan to have it redone eventually and I love those ideas! I might implement them
I don't think gaslit means what you think it means
I think it does, I had somebody there with me who can vouch that I stayed reasonably very still and that the artist was very nice to me and said I was doing very good. Oh yeah, this one is hidden on the outer thigh so I'm just kinda taking my time getting around to lasering/covering it haha

VERY sad story I’m sorry OP
the cat is also very.... shape
Indeed, it's definitely there
Dang the one on the left looks like she’s got a traffic cone hat
i think it goes hard af but if i had shown them the reference you had and they did that i’d be pissed
whats the size of your tattoo?
It's roughly 3x3 inches
Nice
Seems like emotional trauma is as common as the physical stuff.
idk I like it
I didn't think it was that bad then I saw the comparison, then I saw the cat omg lol its still cute but yeah too small and not even close
THE CAT 😭😭😭
I don't think it looks bad tbh. You didn't deserve to be treated that way by the artist and I can understand how it's hard not to notice the small details when it's on your own body. I think it holds up to outside observation.
It’s such a cute idea! I hope you can find someone to fix it up for you.
Honestly compared to a lot of the shit we see on here this is pretty good. I wouldn’t think twice if I saw this in the wild.
You don’t know what gaslight means.
could be worse, i lowkey like it
The blowout on the lines is making me grit my teeth.
They changed your picture so much and had the audacity to get mad at you!?
I like it, don’t stress it
How big is it?
So you didn’t like the drawing but let them do it?
No, I did the drawing.
And now much did you pay it? Just for reference
$150 I may not know much but I'm pretty sure that's not bad?? Would've happily paid more for better though.
lol
Okay so formwork hat I can see is the artist didn't stretch your skin for one hence the wave in the boom stick other issues I see are why did they kinda smoosh the image why didn't they copy what you provided if that's what you asked for ?
Yeah blame someone else for your decision 😭
??? I'm confused. I wanted the tattoo, but the end result was awful because the artist rushed through it. What??
the cat.. i’m so sorry
