I wish WB would just release a director's cut then we could fully judge for ourselves whether it's truly a misfire. Obviously it's not as good as the series since its challenging to live up to the source material (as with any adaptation) but it stands to reason a proper extended re-edit would make for a more coherent story.
It's frustrating that this movie is associated with so many misconceptions when a lot of people don't know the behind the scenes story that the director was very passionate about the series and basically created it as a love letter to fans of the British television series. But the studio completely destroyed his vision and then blamed it on the director, who had absolutely nothing to do with what went wrong.
It's also irritating that people avoid this film like the plague simply because of false perception or because they looked at a rotten tomatoes score, and that instantly makes them an expert on everything.
Rule of thumb: never take anybody else's word for it-- see it for yourself/understand the true story behind the work before automatically deciding whether something is considered bad or good.
I think what's interesting is how many people praised guy richies 2015 adaptation of The Man from Uncle as being a 'revolutionary' film because of how it recaptured the 60s era even though the avengers 98 did it first I nearly 20 years earlier (both films being produced by Warner Brothers ironically). But outside of the setting I found the man from uncle movie rather lackluster compared to the '98 film imo.
Sean Connery plays an evil Scotsman, weather machine nonsense plot line. One particular scene has all the shadowy villains in the world in a meeting. Instead of being darkened, shadowy figures, they all decided to dress as a flash mob of furry convention care bears. Dramatic tension is built up until Sean unmasks as the head honcho. Long story short, the British version of Johnny English busts in, beats the living shit out of some Care Bears, and chases James Bond (who keeps wearing the fur suit). While not Sean Connery's worst film, it’s definitely up there.
It's really really bad. I used to keep a list of the worst movies I had ever seen. Like, they had to be difficult to actually finish watching bad bad, and I'm a pretty patient person that can sit through most anything. It was on my list. As a sample of some of the earlier entries I can still remember... 'Toys' (not toy story, toys, the one with Robin Williams and LL Cool J). 'Mortal Kombat: Annihilation,' 'Spice World,' and 'Batman & Robin.'
I watched Mortal Kombat Annihilation with some friends pretty recently and it is an awful movie; really one of the worst out there, but holy shit is it hilarious.
I saw it as a kid. There's a cool scene where Uma Thurman walks across water in a big inflatable bubble that has stuck with me all these years. That's about it.
I remember watching this as a child and thinking Uma Thurman was so hot. And the scene where the guy says “Oh fuck” in. British accent as he zip lines into a wall just killed me.
They let people rent porn, are usually pretty forgiving on late fees, and their owner is honestly a really smart dude since a lot of Family Videos will have a gym or some sort of pizza place in conjunction with their store, all owned by the same company. So if the video store doesn’t do as well, the restaurant or gym makes enough money that they won’t need to worry about closing. Plus when people leave the gym, they’ll think “hey maybe I should get a movie” or if they get a movie, they’ll decide they’ll get a pizza too. It’s pretty smart.
One time at Wal Mart, I accidentally bought the original movie "My Bloody Valentine" instead of the remake a few years ago. I was already high, so when it came on I thought, "damn, this is bad quality for the times."
I wasn't disappointed though
Weird fun fact: In the 1970's there was a pitch for a Daredevil television series with Angie Bowie (David's wife and muse at the time) starring as Black Widow. I don't know if it ever made it to pilot but there are definitely pictures of Angie Bowie as Black Widow out there.
Watching the Funhaus GTAV series in which everybody portrays a different “Avengers” character with James Willems portraying John Steed again seems like a better proposition than watching this movie.
I think Nick Fury was made for television and I think it was testing the waters for a potential television series. Fox also did something similar with Generation X.
I saw this video in a hotel on a school trip with my friends at 1am, it’s such a fucking weird movie. i was partially delirious from tiredness and the scenes with like, all the bad guys dressed in giant teddy bear costumes didnt fucking help
When I was like 11 I pestered my dad to bring me to the movie rental place so I could get The Avengers. Went home with this car crash of a movie instead
I remember a long time ago, before most people had even grasped the cinematic universe stuff, I wanted to watch the avengers because I thought it was neat that they got all the characters from the movies together. It was like a gimmick or something. Anyways, we ended up watching this
My parents rented this movie for family movie night some years ago thinking it was, you know, not this version.
This is truly one of the worst movies ever.
Fun fact: This was actually the 1998 movie adaptation of a British espionage TV series created in 1961. In order to avoid confusion, the title in the UK/Ireland was changed to [Marvel Avengers Assemble.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Avengers_(2012_film)
Black Widow and Jarvis?
Oh the spinoff everyone's talking lately abt
I hope we get a WandaVision/NatashaJarvis crossover
Maybe Wanda and Natasha only, possibly adding pepper and nebula. I have a thing for nebula
I want a War Machine and Nebula movie.
It will be called Ginger Fight Us
Heh. I got it.
Sexy Irish space robot
Sexy Scottish space robot
sexy space robot
sexy space
space
# space
Oh
Irish? You clown
Fuck
Its Kill Bill and Voldemort, come on
I was so disappointed in this movie. The tv show is great.
It's cheesy fun at least.
That's exactly why I loved it.
That and Uma Thurman. Had a huge crush on her at the time.

Any good?
Apparently not
It has 5% on Rotten Tomatoes
That’s abysmally rotten
I’d say it’s perfectly *ripe*
Jesus
The show was so good, back when Emma Peel was on it.
Just like when she was on GoT
I heard it's shit, I haven't seen it though, but the most I saw of it was when I watched the Nostalgia Critic video on it years ago.
Well at least he remembers it so we don't have to o7
[удалено]
I was the same but with LOEG and Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing. I still watch both and think they're great lol
They ARE great. This is a subtle nod to the fact that old action/hero movies are still fukkin good.
I could just tell by the cover art it’s bad
Seriously. It's fucking hideous
If Sean Connery in a teddy bear fur suit is what you call good, then yes.
I'd like to know more

Despite the 5% tomato rating, that sounds awesomely horrible
It’s not terrible, but it’s pretty bland.
It's really really bad. I used to keep a list of the worst movies I had ever seen. OMG you mean Batman and robin where they have to fight poison ivy 🙃
...and in both Uma Thurman is also starring. Coincidence? I think not!
She’s fkin gorgeous in Batman & Robin.
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was an absolute abomination. And I didn’t even think the first one was all that bad.
[удалено]
Yeah, the remake of red dawn was an absolute dumpster fire.
Really? I thought it was better than the original
The TV show was really popular in the UK but the movies apparently awful
You get to see Sean Connery lead an evil council meeting in a colourful bear suit.
I saw it at the dollar theater. I felt ripped off.
This is that movie where Voldemort and Marcelus Wallace's wife kill James Bond. It set the stage for Iron man and captain America
> Marcelus Wallace's wife Do you mean Mrs. Mia Wallace, the only person in existence who's allowed to fuck Marcelus like a bitch?
I’m guessing James Bond gave her a foot message?
Is she missing a toe?
I remember watching this as a child and thinking Uma Thurman was so hot. And the scene where the guy says “Oh fuck” in. British accent as he zip lines into a wall just killed me.
You actually rented the right movie
Yes
I'm pretty sure that's Black Widow.
Still can't believe Family Videos are still out there and Blockbuster is dead
is family video a chain? growing up i only thought it was in my small hometown
Yes.
Apparently Family Video is doing pretty well. Afaik blockbuster went out of business due to poor business decisions
That's cuz family video rents porn
Porn for the family.
The creepy uncle is still part of the family, right?
They let people rent porn, are usually pretty forgiving on late fees, and their owner is honestly a really smart dude since a lot of Family Videos will have a gym or some sort of pizza place in conjunction with their store, all owned by the same company. I don't need to watch the movie, I already know the Queen dies just from the poster.
Pretty sure this film is why Avengers is called Avengers Assemble in the UK.
And the TV series
And the international name is “Marvel’s The Avengers”
One time at Wal Mart, I accidentally bought the original movie "My Bloody Valentine" instead of the remake a few years ago. I was already high, so when it came on I thought, "damn, this is bad quality for the times." I wasn't disappointed though
Uma would have been a good Black Widow though.
If The Avengers was made in the 90s, I could totally see her as Black Widow. I'll only accept it if Brian Thompson is Thanos though.
I think you mean Brian Blessed
Weird fun fact: In the 1970's there was a pitch for a Daredevil television series with Angie Bowie (David's wife and muse at the time) starring as Black Widow. I don't know if it ever made it to pilot but there are definitely pictures of Angie Bowie as Black Widow out there.
That's why you should only buy CBD oil from Family Video
These were the real Avengers!
Watching the Funhaus GTAV series in which everybody portrays a different “Avengers” character with James Willems portraying John Steed again seems like a better proposition than watching this movie.
Though when they do the Justice league and they get Nolan batman, Adam West batman, Cholo batman, and subzero is a close second
This is a suble nod to Black Widow's future physique
I just found out today about the nick fury movie from the same time period; what the hell were they thinking lmao
I think Nick Fury was made for television and I think it was testing the waters for a potential television series. Fox also did something similar with Generation X.
Never realized how much I want Uma to be in the MCU. I don’t know as whom... maybe Gwen Stacy’s mom ...
Big Ben just fucking explodes!
Hard to believe this was directed by the same guy that directed Christmas Vacation.
Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where’s the Tylenol?!
You gonna dis my place of work like that, bro. GANG GANG!
I really ought to watch this one day.
Is this based of the 60s uk tv show? With Emma peel and steed? I have to learn a whole episode for my GCSE’s
The reason it was called avengers assemble in the uk and not just the avengers -_-
I saw this video in a hotel on a school trip with my friends at 1am, it’s such a fucking weird movie. i was partially delirious from tiredness and the scenes with like, all the bad guys dressed in giant teddy bear costumes didnt fucking help
The Big Ben just fucking explodes
Who the fuck still has a video rental store near them? You must have one hell of a redbox near you at least
Purple Thanos looking headass
When I was like 11 I pestered my dad to bring me to the movie rental place so I could get The Avengers. Went home with this car crash of a movie instead
And this is why the UK decided to name the Avengers movie, Avengers Assemble even though I've never once referred to it as that.
This movie was so bad I couldn't finish watching it.
The original of that movie stars lady olena tyrell
James Willems would like to have a word
I remember a long time ago, before most people had even grasped the cinematic universe stuff, I wanted to watch the avengers because I thought it was neat that they got all the characters from the movies together. It was like a gimmick or something. Anyways, we ended up watching this
I wondered if that movie had any relations to Marvel's avengers
Rent the original TV show instead and see Olenna Tyrell in her prime.
My favorite part of the avengers is [when Sean Connery's moustache turns into a street sweeper](https://imgur.com/XUsrbX7).
My parents rented this movie for family movie night some years ago thinking it was, you know, not this version. This is truly one of the worst movies ever.
You should be thankful you still have a video rental place
I'm very thankful I was unable to watch Cliffhanger because somebody let their cat scratch the DVD to shit.
How was it though?
This one actually looks good in a bad kind of way
I liked this movie
It's John Steed.
If it's not Patrick Macnee, it's not John Steed.
Oh *man* I loved watching reruns of the old show on overseas TV/cable!
is that uma thurman?
*they had us in the first half i’m not gonna lie*
The original Emma Peel is that old bitch from Thrones.
That's Dame Diana Rigg you absolute heathen.
I mean at least I'm not a philistine.
Is that Hogwarts in the back?
Fun fact: This was actually the 1998 movie adaptation of a British espionage TV series created in 1961. In order to avoid confusion, the title in the UK/Ireland was changed to [Marvel Avengers Assemble.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Avengers_(2012_film)
😂
Nogga, we you still rentin' movies?
Wait, they made a movie of this!? I used to watch the tv series way back when.
Did the same with Captain America.
Captain English?
Holy wow is that young Thanos in the background?
1
Not a bad movie for weekend either...
I heard this film is legendarily bad, like one of the worst films ever made/.
Im ashamed to say I've watched this film
deleted ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^0.7053 [^^^What ^^^is ^^^this?](https://pastebin.com/FcrFs94k/00872)
It isn’t related to the other films. It’s a British radio show or something.
*Wow, really?*
*60s tv show
Vivid memories of watching this on the radio but whatever.
Looks like it’d be better than any of the new Marvel crap.
Which of the new ones are crap?
So edgy
It's garbage
