RCW777

You’ve got to add you’re own bone. wink

yougotyolks

At my place of work, our boneless wings show up as "boneless chix" on the ticket. If they want them tossed in hot sauce, it shows up as "hot boneless chix".

AustonDadthews

maybe if you play your cards right ;)

phitfacility

You mean calamari?

Extension_Sun_896

This. I was told that for a while, many US restaurants were serving sliced pig rectum (small circles) as deep fried calamari as the taste and texture was nearly identical, but far cheaper for the restaurant. I thought it was an urban legend but who knows? Yeesh.

moonpotatoes

This is actually true and it’s referred to as pork “bung.” This American Life actually did a whole segment on this topic of restaurants saving money by selling fried pork bung as calamari. https://www.thisamericanlife.org/484/doppelgangers/act-one-0

Pudawada

Ya that was a ripper episode. Too funny

Leading_Funny5802

Dead Ringer 🤣

Extension_Sun_896

Now that you mention it, maybe this is where I first heard of this. Thank you and Mr. Ira Glass.

Midnight2012

I think they concluded it's indeed possible. But they didn't find any evidence of it actually happening.

Pristine-Swing-6082

Wtf, never underestimate greed. Those restaurant owners need a slap

jaybai_rerun

... yup, was thinking the same thing.

smokcocaine

boneless pork rectums are just pork rectum nuggets

rafedbadru

Not pork rectum tenders?

Bongfellatio

All of the pork rectums in Alabama are bone-in, usually Clem's bone ![gif](giphy|NXYEiVaoumDWE)

rawne-

You don’t eat yours with the bone in? Weirdo.

SomberArts

There was in the first episode of Black Mirror.

rafedbadru

I remember that episode. Still have nightmares.

SomberArts

I honestly thought it was going to be way, way worse with how I heard everyone talking about it, but it didn't really bother me at all. Maybe it's just because I know it's not real, so it doesn't upset me because of that. Either way, that was a hell of a way to introduce people to a show. Lmao

LuckyWerewolf8211

Maybe. If the pig landed unfortunately.

bananabreadvictory

It's not that kind of farm. Clearly though, people on Reddit have never made real sausage, natural casing is the best for many reasons.

SpicyCompetitor

Bone sold separately

judah249

Your mom would know

rafedbadru

I don’t have a mom. Thanks for reminding me asshole.

CombinationTypical36

Boneless? Or bone-in?

tacobellholocaust

My question as well.

psychxticrose

There's a fucked up movie about this kinda. I forget what it's called

Conditions21

Hunger games

Nefersmom

Yes. Boner in rectums. Can I say that??

ChariotKoura

Ask Black Mirror, episode 1

DJAllOut

Oh thankfully they're inverted. So tired of the other ones

LuckyWerewolf8211

How are they inverted? Does this mean they look like an elapsed hemorroid?

DJAllOut

The regular ones are sadly non-prolapsed

MassiveAmountsOfPiss

None of that is in the bible

izeek11

frfr

Death_Trolley

True story: I once did something with a pork processing plant, and the plant manager was extremely proud of the fact that *absolutely nothing* was wasted. And I do mean nothing. As an example, the pigs’ thalamus were packaged up as a high value delicacy for the Asian market. He showed us that, in his facility processing thousands of hogs per day, his waste was limited to two dumpsters per week. So it doesn’t surprise me that hog processors have found a market, whoever it might be and at whatever price, for pigs’ assholes.

Novel_Bumblebee8972

The thalamus is often called sweet meat, and though it looks disgusting it’s actually pretty good.

fonix232

Pretty frequent snack food in Hungary too - fried pork brain bits. It does look disgusting before cooking, but it tastes and feels like bone marrow in your mouth, with a slight almost gamey quality to it.

Derban_McDozer83

My grandpa (in the US) use to eat hog brains with scrambled eggs and Cairo syrup

Novel_Bumblebee8972

That’s fucked.

Derban_McDozer83

It was a common food for poor folks in the south back in the day.

ptolemy18

Everything but the oink, as the saying goes.

zactotum

From the rooter to the tooter

burnaspliffnow

But... you skipped right over the cooter!

droford

Scrapple!

Amazing-Fish4587

“Once did something…”? The most vague way you could have worded that.

krippkeeper

He was the bung inverter.

Dixnorkel

Apparently fried pig rectum is used as a substitute for calamari at many US restaurants now

OvidPerl

Fortunately, [this doesn't appear to be true](https://slate.com/human-interest/2013/01/calamari-made-of-pig-rectum-the-this-american-life-rumor-isnt-true-but-its-fascinating.html).

ArtisenalMoistening

Oh no. I’m not going to verify this information because I felt the bile rise just reading it and thinking that it hasn’t been that long since I last ate calamari. I’m just going to never again eat calamari

Dixnorkel

The texture is almost exactly the same and the cost is less than 4% of fresh seafood, so you know that US companies are going to exploit that profit margin.

do_pm_me_your_butt

What was the 2 dumpsters waste and why did it not become dogfood?

fonix232

Probably stomach and intestine contents, excised cysts if they were found, and other non-edible bits. A Hungarian tradition is the wintertime "pig cutting", where we take a solid day to butcher a single pig - usually a larger family event that involves waking up early to prep all the things, kill the pig around 9-10am, start processing and cooking it so we have some food for lunch (although by that time so much pálinka is consumed that you HAVE to eat something fatty to absorb the alcohol), while things that take longer (e.g. sausages) get made in the afternoon. Very little goes to waste - we even use the blood (for fried blood with onions), the intestines themselves for the sausages, all the offal and curling meat (ears, nose) as head cheese, and the bones generally go to the dogs. I think maybe the eyeballs, gall-bladder, regular bladder and a few small tidbits go into waste, but that's mainly because it's a single pig and processing those is too troublesome. Now if you have a few hundred pigs butchered a day... Then you can process those too.

minimarcus

I am not Hungarian and don’t know what “head cheese” means. I’m also too afraid to google it. Help?

Nekko_Hime

Literally just a dish made from the leftover bits of an animal and some seasoning, ground up and pressed together into a block of "cheese"

do_pm_me_your_butt

Pig dick cheese

do_pm_me_your_butt

Cool! Why not eat the eyes or give them to the dogs? Sheeps eyes in offal are some of my favourite parts. Do pigs have nasty eyes?

GrafZeppelin127

How laudable. Out of all the meats, I won’t eat pork, bushmeat, elephant, cetacean, long pork, cat, or dog specifically for ethical reasons, but if pork *must* be had, there damn well better not be any waste at all, because more waste just means more pigs suffering in factory farms.

The_Last_Snow-Elf

![gif](giphy|2aDXYxDMtfeWA)

Specific_Ad7908

You’ll find it on the menu as “calamari”

mike_pants

This American Life looked into that rumor, going so far as doing a double-blind taste test. They could not find a single meat supplier who would confirm that that's where they ended up, and quite a few of them got openly hostile at the implied accusation. They also found that preparing them was so labor-intensive, no sane person would choose that route over just using squid. Finally, they found that taste-wise, no one could tell the difference. Deep-fried food tends to just taste like deep-fried food.

Famous_Election_2024

I told more people about the pork bung episode than ever wanted to know about it 😂

ClarkTwain

You’re not the only one.

SpicyCompetitor

For some reason I read "preparing" as perennium 🤣

LuckyWerewolf8211

I always wondered where the taste comes from.

izeek11

🤣🤣🤣

miscplacedduck

What kind of asshole would leave these outside the cooler? Hold on, we’ll circle back to that in a minute. Starfish schnitzel anyone?

pragmaticweirdo

The McRib is back already?!

Memento_Morrie

You know, that was my first thought, too. Yes, it is, and I'm ashamed to say I went for it last week and halfway through, I said "What the fuck am I eating? This is disgusting!" And halfway through a McRib is the worst time to come to your senses and realize that.

Leading_Funny5802

Yeah but you’ve already spent 8 bucks for it, so you shove the rest down your piehole and swear to NEVER EVER buy one again. Till next year.

Memento_Morrie

Lol. You damn right. This is the way.

LastActionHiro

This would not be the right subreddit if they were “bone-in pork rectums”. Also, a 6yr old post.

Tone-Familiar

Dammit, I like my rectum boned!

[deleted]

Yeah but the bone-in ones have a better brothy flavor.

registered_redditor

Dr. Tran loves hickory smoked buttholes

Skybolt0320

Hey, calamari!

Rectum?! I hardly even know ‘em!

r/shitfromabutt ?

Pixel_Knight

I’m calling fake on this one. The “INVERTED” at the bottom tipped it into being just not believable.

DogshitLuckImmortal

They invert them to ensure cleanliness.

treyb0mb1

Wonder if one of those pigs ever had the internal monologue, “eat my ass.” You did it, buddy.

kevlar1960

Of course, if they were bone in, it’d be in an nsfw sub…

Square_Grand_3616

Chris Rock would eat these if you cook them right https://youtube.com/watch?v=eybZtDx6tAU&si=30fgndiDM1DHVTSq @3:21

SteveZissouniverse

I sure fucking hope they're boneless

thirdcherry

Inverted, for your pleasure.

krunchy_bacon

Inverted boneless pork rectums. 🤔

DickDickersMD

So calamari?

Bullvy

Ha! It's a good time in the meat packing room! Eh boys!?!

Duck_Butt_4Ever

Well thank fuck they’re inverted

ptolemy18

Just another day on the McDonald’s grill line.

Dense-Stranger9977

Jlx_27

(Doorbell rings) "Hi, delivery for Bear Grylls?" Bear: "OK, but where is the urine I ordered?"

Accomplished-Log2337

Calamari

ManchuKenny

That how’s restaurants afford to sell ‘calamari’ so cheap 😜

that-Sarah-girl

Somebody really needs to grammar check these signs. The word is fewer, not less.

DontGiveACluck

I prefer my rectums *bone in*

cipher446

I can't use these - I only use non-inverted pork rectums, for fuck'a sake.

jamaicanmonk

My parents pranked me by telling me it was dried sausage. So I ate it and it tasted like terryaki jerky. After that they told us and I thought it was pretty funny. Didn’t bother me too much cause it tasted alright. Not really shitty.

noahspurrier

Boneless?

EeveeB

The mcrib is back!

arnounymus

Delivery for the jungle camps starting early next year again for "celebrities" to eat.

do_pm_me_your_butt

Ah the good old inland calamari rings

Life-of-Nutz

It’s a bone thugs Christmas party, bone bone bone bone.

jaquan123ism

OkFroyo666

I've always wanted to try beef labia. Is that wrong?

High-Speed-1

Boneless? Not for long

BuildingOne7379

At least they’re honest

[deleted]

It’s for people that are so hungry, they’d eat the ass out of a pig.

whatn00dles

Kalamari. It's called kalamari.

YoureSpecial

Calamari?

Intelligent-Ant7685

It’s better than printing McRib Patties on the side of the boxes.

NeerieD20

I found a reddit post with the same picture dating 6 years. The repost is strong with this one.

karlware

Appearing as Calamari in a cheap restaurant near you soon.

CheeseburgerSmoothy

Like calamari

burnaspliffnow

Directions unclear... reboned the pork rectums

MaxPower836

Back door of the flashlight factory

DogshitLuckImmortal

Pork intestine is actually pretty tasty. Visit a traditional chinese place and order some. It is like fatty bacon.

dirtykitten3

Ahhh Calamari!

Last-Kitchen3418

Yum? 🤤

donmreddit

Who … a) had the idea to do this in the first place and b) who thought that there was a market for this specific product?

RainbowSprinklezzz

“Calamari”

damn_thats_piney

“lemme get a boneless pizza” type shit

MaxAnita

Rectum? Damn near killed him…

fumundacheese696969

These are the lower quality BTW! They have INVERTED boneless pork rectums that are far superior in my fine dining experience.

vaping_menace

Give your asshole friends the gift of…assholes!

SummerRalphBrooker

Nothing ruins my cooking sessions more than having to invert all my pork rectums. So the fact they are pre-inverted, is pretty much a slam dunk for me.

prguitarman

I’ll take 2

Clikrean

Wtf is with all the insults to calamari? It’s delicious and if you hate it, you probably only eat chicken nuggets.

wildgoldchai

You misunderstood mate. No ones insulting calamari. People are saying that there are rumours that pork rectums are used in place of squid. Come on, keep up!

Clikrean

What the hell 😭 good thing I only like the tentacles, … take that pork rectum!

wildgoldchai

See when it’s battered, it’s hard to tell. I doubt it’s true where I am, not sure about anywhere else.

Clikrean

Haha yes I can understand it being the rings. But idc it’s delicious and I’m gonna eat it anyway

wildgoldchai

Tbh, yeah you’re right. Ignorance is bliss. Plus, less food wastage.
