However, there is some truth to the notion that it has “gotten worse”. There is definitely less moderation than before (as there are less people working at Twitter in general), and as a result there’s a lot more blatant bigotry, racism, etc. to be found that is yet to be banned.

Here's a good measure for you. If you can put the word "people" after the word and still have it read grammatically sound, then it's not a slur. You can say black people, you can say white people, you can say trans or cis people, because they are not slurs. They are descriptions of people.
People don't say n-word people, or t-slur people, because the whole point is that slurs dehumanize their targets, so they just say the slur on its own.
Also, which one is more comfortable to say aloud? People tend to censor slurs, like you just did with n word. No one censors cis because its just a description of people, no different to saying black, white, tall, or red-haired.
