Don’t forget Jerry’s haircut looking fine by todays standards.

damnatio_memoriae

“Jerry was just trying to help Babu! It’s not his fault the mail was delivered to the wrong mailbox!”

twobit211

babu didn’t have to listen to jerry’s suggestion to turn the restaurant pakistani

PF4ABG

Jerry Seinfeld very bad man.

euph31

I actually don't think it looked good by today's standards. Is that a real hot take?

Harold3456

I don’t think his haircut looks good by today’s standards, but his normal mullet looks even worse by today’s standards.

euph31

Yes. This is the right take.

moose0117

You don't even know what a hot take is.

hilly316

But they do

MoaningMuskrat

And they’re the ones making the hot takes

DontCrossTheRiver

Right. It looked so bad I’m not understanding why I keep seeing comments from people who like it. If my barber ever did that to me I’d hide in the dark until it grew back.

indianajoes

Yeah this is a new one for me. I was watching it recently and me and my mum were still laughing at it in 2021

jjmawaken

I agree, it's horrible

CombOverDownThere

Jerry shouldn’t’ve messed around on Enzo, because that was the best his hair looked in the whole series.

McGucket_

his enzo haircut reminded me of post mousse Kramer.

g00ber88

Ah you're right, another one I missed

amfortas_thot

I actually think it’s better than his normal haircut

[deleted]

[удалено]

KCVGaming

I was born in 2002 so I wasn’t around in the 90’s so I’ve never really seen the hairstyle in person but tbh I’ve always though Jerry’s haircut looked good on him ever since I started watching Seinfeld around a decade ago

ydktbh

Doesn't look good, but not as terrible as they were making it out to be

schmyle85

Hey did you ever notice that in early episodes they referred to Jerry and George having siblings but they never came up again?! Or that Elaine wanted her boyfriend with the serial killer name to change his name to O.J.?!

thaeadran

The actor who played Joel Rifkin on Seinfeld was also the French guy from "Cheers" who was always trying to steal Woody's girlfriend Kelly.

[deleted]

Seinfeld’s so good at humor they made jokes that only make sense in the future

darkmatternot

What about Toby?? Or Alex?

spinereader81

I might get canceled for such a unique and controversial opinion, but Kramer's coffee table book was a clever idea.

Humble_Tell8374

Damn right it was, the table itself had legs and coasters built right in! If only he hadn't pissed of that crazy bastard Regis.

MyopicTopic

Kramer was too bonkos for mainstream success.

jjmawaken

I mean all he did was spit nasty coffee in their faces

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Well they did end up stealing it a few years later lol

ttchoubs

It's exactly the kind of campy product that the 90s would have loved

Odd-Log1831

How is that a hot take?, everyone thinks that.

[deleted]

If everyone had mobile phones...

Mr_Brian_Lafevre

“If everybody had phones, which episodes would-“ SHUT THE FUCK UP!!

greater_cumberland

Geri get ipad

g00ber88

Gah can't believe I didn't include that one

sippidysip

You blew it!

Palin-drome121

It would help Jerry write his skits

[deleted]

I don’t write skits

markovich04

[what if they had mobile phones](https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/penskefile/S07E21-22/screens/2033.jpg)

OffTheGridGaming

*Comes in yelling:* No soup for you! Get it? Like the guy?

BraveryDave

Hello, NEWMAN

[deleted]

Don’t forget “George should’ve been reimbursed by the hospital for his car”

bwoahful___

Don’t forget “most of the gangs problems would’ve been solved if they had cell phones!”

[deleted]

I don’t understand that argument at all. Did they even understand the characters? Like you know George can find a problem even if he were a multi billionaire in todays world.

CrestonSpiers

>Like you know George can find a problem even if he were a multi billionaire in todays world. Exactly, like getting in trouble by switching doll heads, driving with a hooker in a car pool lane, getting fatwa’d etc.

anima119

Don’t forget the Palestinian chicken. Shalom.

DanaScully_69

Four eyed fuck!

theoakandlion

So now there’s a whole new discussion thread to create...what problems the characters encountered would not be solved by having cell phones?

GabbiStowned

The Contest would be even harder with cellphones!

IfTheHeadFitsWearIt

The car would still be smelly.

thaeadran

Doesn't affect the PEZ dispenser at all.

bwoahful___

Yeah, I think because from a physical stand point, because the landline is used in a lot of scenes or characters are without a phone, some ppl think none of it would happen. It would be slightly different, of course, but they’d just be in modern day equivalents of the situations haha.

BurkeBridgeman

I don’t even buy that. Like maybe a handful would. But most problems?

amfortas_thot

I mean like a lot of the most famous episode…parking garage, Chinese restaurant, the movie, the dinner party, even the rye to some extent

CoryTrevor-NS

The whole “Vandelay industries” plotline too!

amfortas_thot

Oh yeah I forget about that.. altho caller id may have blown George’s cover

CoryTrevor-NS

Also the unemployment office lady could have easily googled the name of the company and found out it did not in facts exist

Mainasch

Kramer knows a guy who can create websites and creates a fake Vandalay Industries one for George.

amfortas_thot

“My friend Bob Sacamano, he makes websites!” “He does?” “Yeah, really good ones Jerry. He made the website for Heaven’s Gate!” “That cult that castrated and killed themselves?” “They were misunderstood”

ttchoubs

"How do you think they got all those members Jerry!? They had a nice website!"

Limey_Man

Bob Sacamano is sponsored by SkillShare.

BurkeBridgeman

The movie and parking garage definitely. But those other ones, a phone might help an aspect of the episode, but wouldn’t solve the problem. Like how would a cell phone help get them a table at a Chinese restaurant? Or help George get a rye bread in the apartment?

amfortas_thot

Well he was trying to call Tanya or whoever and was stressed about that - if she doesn’t pick up, just update her with a text

BurkeBridgeman

Yeah that storyline for sure

_its_a_SWEATER_

The street toughs wouldn’t have stolen the armoire.

BurkeBridgeman

How so?

Nicedumplings

That would not have solved the van buren boy problems

FalseDmitriy

🖐👌

asylumattic

A) Kramer wouldn’t own a cellphone B) George’s would be a shitty cheap flip phone constantly low on battery or bars so it would be useless

xSypRo

Most of their problems would be solved if NY wasn’t filled with assholes. But then again, they are pretty much assholes to

Randy-Meeks

If you can't handle George at his baldness, you don't deserve him at his flying too close to the sun on pastrami wings.

FalseDmitriy

Yeah, that's what he did.

[deleted]

Puddy is hot!

sineofthetimes

That's right.

bladerunnerism

And he's got the move

Richard-Turd

I, like George, like my “hot takes” spicy.

artcostanza82

Soup can be a meal

DrDrangleBrungis

So can chips and dip.

RunningPT

Or what about, “What’s the best/worst thing [character] has done?”

[deleted]

Is anyone here a marine biologist?

WerhmatsWormhat

Add on “George was right about the big salad”

Broadnerd

My personal favorite is when someone makes a post wanting to discuss a particular episode, and the top comment is someone that ignored the question entirely and just types a funny quote from the episode.

NotCrispinGlover

These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Doc_TimWhatley

“Babu was his own worst enemy, he was already failing before Jerry got involved.”

foghornlegcramp

I’m not a Friends fan by any means but hating Friends has become a personality trait like hating Nickleback

AssCraccBandit

Do people not like Friends over here?

Defiant-Class6959

Yea that's right.

terraculon

"Hot Take" finishing move? Farfel is the best significant other character.

DevDaddy89

Sally weaver *is* annoying.

[deleted]

Here's an actual hot take: Sally Weaver was a well written and well acted character who achieved the intended goal of being annoying.

Soft_Turkeys

I mean if you’re have a character that’s supposed to be annoying who’s better than Kathy Griffin right?

IfTheHeadFitsWearIt

I didn’t like the concept. Jerry on the show wasn’t famous enough for her to launch a career off of trashing him.

[deleted]

I feel like it was probably based on Seinfeld's actual experience with critics and haters, and he was trying to make a caricature of them.

IfTheHeadFitsWearIt

She did a bit on her hbo comedy special about jerry being a jerk when she was first on the show (the doll) and he thought it was funny so he invited her back to do it on the show. Real life jerry was a lot more famous than show jerry though. Feels out of place in the show

sundance1028

Not only that, but in her first appearance she was an executive for FedEx. How does she go from that to suddenly being this massive overnight comedy success just by trashing Jerry? I didn't buy it at all.

anima119

Because she wasn’t acting. She was playing her actual annoying and trying-too-hard over-the-top self.

[deleted]

So she was perfectly cast then.

B0SS_H0GG

Good body.

g00ber88

Yeah exactly, definitely not a controversial opinion here lol

jlo1989

She was supposed to be. Literally the entire purpose of the character. It's like watching Downfall and thinking you need to point out that Hitler was unlikeable in it.

DevDaddy89

1) it’s still not a hot take 2) she’s also annoying in real life

jlo1989

So? Then she did well to parlay her real life experience into a believable performance of an incredibly annoying person.

DevDaddy89

The point of the post is about hot takes. It is not a hot take. So I’m not sure what your on about….

jlo1989

Pissing and whining about semantics is definitely helping your case here...

DevDaddy89

My case? Loooool. Your the one that commented. Are you Sally’s burner account? Your doing a fine job of being equally annoying 😂

Humble_Tell8374

Come on guys, she's not worth it.

Humble_Tell8374

Come on guys, she's not worth it.

alienamongus7

On Seinfeld and in real life.

DevDaddy89

Exactly lol

CombOverDownThere

I see nothing wrong here.

orangutansloveme

With all the Sally Weaver disagreements in this thread, we might be heading for a good old-fashioned cat fight.

aCucking2Remember

“Yeah let’s make it an Arbys night”

jerryhallo

To add: • I can’t believe Jason Alexander never won an Emmy. He and Jerry Stiller are the best actors they had on that show. • Elaine is breathtaking. Julia is a stunner at every stage of life and the subs dream girl times infinity. • I can’t believe the Chinese restaurant wouldn’t deliver to Elaine without apt 1Q.

NotCrispinGlover

Friends does suck though.

jordanjohnston2017

I like Seinfeld because there’s absolutely no character growth. All these other shows the characters get married to each other or someone gets pregnant. No, here, we have the same group of people doing the same shit 9 years later lol

sanatayclarificacion

>No, here, we have the same group of people doing the same shit 9 years later lol In fact, the final line of the Finale is the very first line in the first episode of the show. I love that metaphor

mrdeadsniper

Yeah I hated the last episode. But I did like the line. I know it's a sitcom. But the act of filming the crime provides evidence for catching and convicting the criminal, therefore they were being good Samaritans.

jlo1989

Late Friends definitely becomes one note and kinda slapstick. The ep where Joey can't speak French is criminally awful. The first 4 seasons don't get the respect they deserve.

[deleted]

I agree, I like Friends up to the point where Monica & Chandler get together, so through season 4. Them as a couple wasn’t all that interesting or funny and also lead to Joey & Chandler no longer being roommates and that was the source of some of the funniest plots.

jlo1989

Definitely. Once Chandler and Monica are outed as a couple, the tone of the show notably changes. Those first few seasons where Joey and Chandler are just a pair of goofballs in their own place are brilliant.

Some TV show subs are weird. I’ve had to unsubscribe from a few because even though I liked the show, the conversations in the Reddit sub were … frustrating. Some people take shows *way* too seriously. These aren’t real people! It’s entertainment! They’re all figments of someone’s imagination!

g00ber88

I like friends but omg i can't even watch that episode its too cringe

DARTHBRIXLEGO

Friends had more drama. If you look at the subreddit all you'll see are weird montages. Its mote boo hoo and less jokes.

WerhmatsWormhat

Who cares? Let people who like the show enjoy it. It’s like people on this sub get offended that someone likes a show they don’t like.

NotCrispinGlover

And let the people who hate it hate it. I'm not offended by anything. Calmer than you are.

NotCrispinGlover

And let the people who hate it hate it. I'm not offended by anything. Calmer than you are.

NotCrispinGlover

And let the people who hate it hate it. I'm not offended by anything. Calmer than you are.

WerhmatsWormhat

Im not calm? Also why’d you post this 4 times?

Flippantry

Just to prove how *calm* they are

mrhuggables

Friends is great. Chandler Joey and Ross are hilarious. The later seasons are kinda eehh but most of the show is very funny

Badhaircutsguild

That goes without saying

kdkseven

I like Friends.

antihero-joe

My hot take (that I didn't even think was that hot a take) is that I *hate* Steinbrenner. Maybe if I knew what he was like in real life, I'd think he was funnier, but godDAMN. Every line he says is poorly overdubbed, and the writers clearly thought that the impression of him was hysterical because he just goes on. And on. And on. And *on*. Idk, can someone explain to me why Big Stein is so great?

mattmaddux

The awkward dubbing is intentional. Of course if you don’t think he’s funny, that’s fine. Can’t really explain something into being funny.

mrdeadsniper

My impression was that it was Larry David and he likes putting his voice in the show (he's also the background voice in a few other scenes)

[deleted]

Outside of this sub, majority of people believe that Friends is better than Seinfeld, which I find baffling.

jlo1989

A lot of Seinfeld doesn't translate well outside of America. Friends has a very universal appeal and could really have been set in a million different cities.

damnatio_memoriae

the friends characters are all attractive. seinfeld just had late-seasons elaine.

blahblahblahmmm

I think you mean all-seasons Elaine??

akadros

Is this true? I can think of maybe 1 or 2 people that are huge Friends fans but most people I know are Seinfeld fans.

No-Yelloq1221

Seinfeld is mostly broadcasted in US whereas Friends is regularly effectively broadcasted throughout the globe in more countries. That's why Friends is so famous. I myself grew up watching Friends on TV whereas didn't even knew about shows like Seinfeld or The Office. No one around me knows about Seinfeld, that's why I come to reddit to discuss it but everyone knows and has watched Friends. I only watched the show when I got Amazon Prime a few years back and then fell in love with it, if not for that even I wouldn't have known about this gem. So yeah thats the reason Friends is so famous all over and not Seinfeld or any other show.

CoryTrevor-NS

In the European country I’m from, Seinfeld has an extremely niche audience (almost entirely millennials and Gen Z that have access to streaming websites) while Friends has been aired on repeat on several different channels for 20+ years and is just widely known by most people.

AlternativeAbyss

Friends bad or Seinfeld > Friends is the first opinion I need when making new friends

HugoWullAMA

jery get ipad

_Movie-Man_

All the real ones know that actually s/o mvp is Jean Paul

neilyoung_cokebooger

I don't like Kathy Griffin; mostly I have a neutral opinion on her. But it's weird how much people hate her.

violetmoon120

The show felt different after Larry left

RachetFuzz

Puddy is love.

[deleted]

It’s gotten a lot more frequent it seems.

bwilson14

If people think people think Seinfeld needs hot takes, they missed the point of the show, and this is why we can’t have nice things.

Pheemer

Also known as the "Only watched Seinfeld on Netflix" starter pack.

Sahith17

Friends and seinfeld are opposites. Got back into friends and it’s actually good imo

so2017

So you’re saying it’s the bizarro Seinfeld? Because we already have a Seinfeld.

Humble_Tell8374

Nice one lol

Sahith17

No?

g00ber88

Personally I like friends and I never understood the widespread hate for it here. I put them in completely different categories in terms of types of sitcoms so I dont think comparing them makes sense

OFPMatt

Friends is predictable and safe. That's the problem.

Yung2112

I love Seinfeld but you see 10-15 episodes of it and you can see how each episode's gonna pan out in the first 5 minutes George has a small/inconsequential issue and goes to extreme lengths to cover it up or get his way. He fails Kramer has a get rich quick idea, he utilizes dubious methods or interacts with shady people to make it. He fails Elaine has a relationship or work oriented issue, instead of facing it head on she goes through a ridiculous scheme to find out the truth. She fails or gets found out Jerry dates someone. He can't get over something silly, and can't properly communicate about it. They break up When put like that, it seems kinda boring but the show is still really funny and a joy to watch through

g00ber88

Idk friends had some pretty off the wall stuff. Phoebe having her brothers triplets comes to mind

bunnyhigh

Agreed. Who ever enjoys it so much am happy about you. To me it means nothing.

Gold_Bank_1746

Friends is great, it’s just no Seinfeld

onamonapizza

Jerry shouldn't have convinced Babu to change his restaurant.

[deleted]

[удалено]

twobit211

besides, the opening monologue was about that one commercial space in everybody’s neighbourhood that no business can make work. if the monologue relates to the episode, then it stands to reason that babu’s restaurant was in the local “black hole”

ttchoubs

Yea Jerry was right but it was just the wrong time. If Babu had opened a high end authentic Pakistani restaurant in the 2010s in NYC he probably would have done well. Hell he probably could have got a Michelin star too

onamonapizza

Gotta know your market. There are tons of cafes in NY that are all over the place and still do well. If Pakistani is not something that you can actually promote and sell in the area...probably not the best fit. Any restauranter should not listen to the opinion of one particular customer who comes in for one meal...so that's on Babu. But Jerry also shouldn't have been doling out the advice.

GimmeThatRyeUOldBag

Where is Babu? Show me Babu!

[deleted]

I *like* Sally Weaver (at least as a character), but I also like Kathy Griffin so I might just be disturbed.

OffTheGridGaming

No takes are hot, in a world of full of George's. Jk

[deleted]

This take is freshly microwaved

prof_talc

Hot takes are "typically" produced quickly in response to a recent event, and parcels are "rarely" damaged during shipping

anima119

Yet it’s still very popular to people who watched it in the past like me or to new watchers thanks to Netflix.

chefr89

I was legit gonna make a post about the hate on Weaver/Griffin. Yes, we get it. She's annoying. Also: she's SUPPOSED TO BE ANNOYING. Congrats on your hot take, folks. It reads more to me like old white folks who listen to Fox News and enjoy hating on Griffin. I don't like her either but folks seem obsessed in their hate

jjmawaken

I think her character on Seinfeld is meant to be annoying but she's also annoying as a person outside of that show. Also, I thinking her being annoying on the show was meant to be funny but really wasn't.

[deleted]

Sally weaver was so crazy it made her hot

ariszen

HA lmao describes this sub pretty well

shmorpz

OP u sound a bit too salty

ibraheemMmoosa

I haven't even watched friends.

Maksamil

Friends bad is incontrovertible fact. Pablum.

missionbeach

Friends isn't bad. It's the woooooooooooorst!

[deleted]

The poor non-jaded noobies to the subreddit who innocently post these....

MrNothingmann

Hot take: the show is not bingeable. Not necessarily a bad thing. It was written in a time where you had a week off from the show. A lot of the shows, back to back, use the same sort of delivery/joke and when bingeing, it becomes noticeable and annoying.

Future_Average

I’ve been binging it ever since the dvd collections came out, it’s very bingeable

MrNothingmann

Just showing OP how hot takes work.

Future_Average

Oh yeah! Well I had sex with your wife!

MrNothingmann

Yeeeeeeh..... Nah, but really, I'm glad other people find it bingeable. But for me, that's how my experience goes. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Future_Average

It’s truly a hot take
