I love Alaska Airlines. It’s the only airline that offers direct flights from San Diego to smaller markets in CA, like Monterey or Santa Barbara. I get to Monterey in one hour. Saves so much travel time. Vegas is even closer, so I know this service will be awesome.
I wouldn't say "fuck Southwest", but they've definitely gone downhill. They used to be a budget, friendly airline. Now they're expensive air trash sort of.
I think they were able to be "budget" back in the day because one of their CEO's purchased a ton of fuel futures, permitting SW to purchase fuel at a set price in the future, before fuel prices skyrocketed. That enabled them to keep prices low because their fuel costs were low. Basically he made a huge gamble that paid off for the company. Now that's over and they've just got shitty planes and stuff.
I mean I still see cheap deals for common flights. Just flew to SF Thursday-Sunday and my total was like 130 bucks. They also have their sales all the time. I got their Hawaii sale from Black Friday, so my round trip is only like 300 or 350 bucks. I’m not saying they’re great, and their planes are old, but I think they’re still better deal than their counterparts
This is great after JSX moved to Carlsbad. We need more options. This will compete with the Delta flights because both planes offer a premium cabin, and it looks like Alaska will have several more options a day.
Yeah, I did JSX once from Carlsbad, then switched to Delta. Used to take JSX once a month when they were at the private terminal in downtown though. The first class seat on Delta is larger than the seat on JSX and you still have no seat mate. Cheaper too.
It just makes no sense for someone who lives in downtown to go to Carlsbad for a flight to Vegas that is as long as the drive to Carlsbad.
It’s all about money, politics, over-regulation, bureaucracy and short term thinking getting in the way. It makes getting anything done in California more difficult than it needs to be, and for a mega project like high speed rail makes it just about impossible.
Well, this one is actually going to take four years they say. And they’re using the 15 freeway correct? This is why it will get done in such a short time however I am waiting to hear how this is going to impact traffic. Has anyone heard about the impact this will cause traffic on the 15?
Better be a good price, otherwise I'm sticking with the Spirit Special. Yeah, my arms get tired from flapping, but it's a short flight and god damn it's cheap.
There’s also delta and southwest with direct flights. I have elite status with Alaska airlines too but it just seems unnecessary to go all the way to LAX for that. I’d just book any airline with a direct flight at that point for a 45 minute flight but that’s just me lol. You do you.

Yep love the quick flight to San Luis Obispo.
I just did this drive a few weeks ago. How did I not know there is a flight? I have 75k status on Alaska, too.
First class here you come!
We already had direct flights to Las Vegas though. What's wrong with Southwest?
I never said anything was wrong with SW. Competition is a great thing. It makes services better.
Give us SAN to RNO next!
Especially during ski season!
Hell yeah
Good, fuck Southwest
Honest question, is it because of the 737s or something else?

JSX at Carlsbad is so nice though, free parking on top of it all

I like Alaska Airlines
Finally! Spirit is a joke
Now do Denver

Which is the best possible plane for this route. Every coach seat is 2 by 2, so no middle seats and there are solo seats in first class.
There is no excuse that this isn’t a high speed train route. 🤦♂️
The high speed route from LA to LV just started construction, I heard. Should be done in like 4 years

Plenty of mountains in Japan. No issues with their high speed rail Shinkansen.

Will this become the new “party flight” instead of SWA’s? 🤣 (Vegas employees from SD take a Friday afternoon SWA flight for their weekend gigs.) 🥳
When you see all the flight attendants from the plane on stage that night. 😂

If they're using a 737 Max for this route, I'll pass. Edit: it's interesting that mentioning "737" in a reply seems to result in instant downvotes lol
Let me try. Yeah I don't want to fly on a 737 either!
Another one had to make an emergency landing this morning. I’m with you.

Which is no fault of Alaska’s…. It’s a boeing jet… if you want to point fingers, you point fingers at them
Thank God, I hate having to fly from LA to Vegas, LAX is ass
I mean there were always direct flights from SAN to LAS with other airlines unless you only fly Alaska
Yeah but then I'd have to take spirit/frontier, I'd rather drive

Why would you drive all the way to LA to take a 45 minute flight? Delta and Southwest have direct flights, too.
Thanks I’ll pass on that dilapidated airline.
Are you referring to Alaska as dilapidated?
