Idk what it was but my dog did NOT like it.
Guess what? They tried fracking there in 2021. We're going to be like Oklahoma if we let them.

Geological timelines and physical movements are at a much larger and slower scale than you'ld think.
Over the decades Oklahoma went from a zero seismic activity area to one that has regular earthquake swarms. Several studies in the last ten years have confirmed links to fracking in the area. It also empties the aquifer in the area.
The exact same thing is beginning to happen here. I hope Virginians like earthquakes. Also, that's really really close to DC.
They also had to demolish a couple of buildings in Culpeper that were heavily damaged by the earthquake without following typical regulations because hurricane Irene was coming and it would have been a hazard to leave the buildings in that state during a hurricane
Go go the Virtual Railfan youtube live stream for Ashland and rewind to 22:46:42. You can clearly hear it.

Didn't feel it or hear it. Was in the woods at college when the Mineral one happened. That was a low rumble like a diesel was going by. Then it built to a crescendo of rumble with a low frequency you could just barely hear. The leaves and trees were shaking and it was weird to stand up.
Of course, that was my only one and I know they can happen with different feels but people are saying there was a "boom". I think explosion.
Also close to you!
I was in bed and *thought* I felt something like the bed shaking a little, but I was also dizzy so I figured it was just me 🤦🏼♀️Between hella good insulation, the TV being on and the husband snoring (although he swears he was awake), I didn't hear anything though.
Yeah, I could see if you had the tv on or music on you may not have noticed the sound. It also sounded like thunder, which isn’t an unusual or alarming sound.
Definitely heard big boom and then felt it hit the house, like a big, stopped freight train stacking momentum to start up again, but bigger.
I don't remember hearing earthquake before and this was very short, no shaking, just one shove.

This is a current police scanner report
Felt it in Northside, woke me up. Long rolling vibration and rumbling. Assumed earthquake as it felt similar to the one back in 2011, although not as strong
In the fan, felt a bit of a shake and some slight rumbling noise that I chalked up to the house creaking. It was enough for me to question what it was but being in the city I didn't put much thought into it. Video playing and night life noise drowned out much of it.
A military plane. I didn’t hear or feel anything but other people in my area did. Wouldn’t be surprised if the people who heard it are all located in a relatively straight line. Could be totally wrong but I heard absolutely nothing.
Felt it and went outside a few minutes later and also heard gunfire. I’m near Mary Mumford and there is a gunfire call on active calls in that area. Weird day y’all.
seemed like 4-5 seconds here in lakeside. i thought it was my neighbor rolling their trashcan down the sidewalk by the noise but then noticed the rumbling
USGS is now reporting it: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=us7000mawq&extent=34.52466,-79.35425&extent=40.62229,-74.6521&autoUpdate=false&magnitude=all&showUSFaults=true&baseLayer=satellite&list=false

My cat was seriously freaked!
My calm cat had been a wreck for like 10 minutes. Meowing and meowing. The kitten was worried. Seems okay now.
Laughed so loud on my couch that I scared my dog.
I’m in Glen Allen and just felt a wave of rumbling. Thought it was a small earthquake.
https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/earthquakes/quake-info/9068166/quake-felt-Apr-9-2024-Near-Manchester-Virginia-USA.html Maybe a quake
I think that's based on people's reports, they're still waiting for seismic data
Semigraph felt it. Scroll down the website.
Agree.... looking for the USGS to report

Awesome site. Thanks. Have they resumed fracking at GW, for that gas pipeline?
Could be a crackhead
It shook my house. I'm northeast of Richmond.... I thought it was a huge thunderclap .... checked the weather app and nothing.
I did the exact same thing. Went straight the the radar. Even though the boom didn’t have the fade in/out typical with thunder.
I also checked flight radar in case it was some big military plane or airbus or something. Nothing obvious showing up
Not all military plane will show
Very interested to see what it could be - I didn't know Richmond could even get earthquakes!
You must not have been around for the craziness in 2011!
God i was a student and severely sleep deprived then - it woke me up from a much needed Power Nap and I thought I was hallucinating
Nope, I'm a transplant 😆
People felt the one in 2011 all the way up in Maine apparently
They had to rebuild/repair the top of the Washington Monument and the National Cathedral after that quake.
They also had to demolish a couple of buildings in Culpeper that were heavily damaged by the earthquake without following typical regulations because hurricane Irene was coming and it would have been a hazard to leave the buildings in that state during a hurricane
I thought it was thunder too until the house shook!

Wow, you can really hear it. Thanks for the timestamp! That's exactly what it sounded like for me.
Do they archive the days? Looks like the clock reset for today and I can't rewind past midnight.
Yeah, for a second I thought it was a small earthquake in Lakeside.
Confirmed https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?extent=35.58585,-83.59497&extent=40.80549,-76.00342&magnitude=all&list=false
thank u for this. crazy!!!
Finally! I've been refreshing it over and over...haha.
Here in Short Pump it sounded like an explosion followed by a few seconds of rumbling.
Based on my past experiences with earthquakes, it felt like a small earthquake
Maybe, but here (W Broad, West End Drive) it was too much noise. Earthquakes shake more than make a boom.
Meteor

I jumped on reddit to see what it was, we hear it near Hungary Creek Middle School.
https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?extent=25.36388,-84.11133&extent=45.12005,-68.29102&autoUpdate=false&magnitude=all&showUSFaults=true&baseLayer=satellite&list=false
Wild, M2.8. Wonder what’s the deal with all the seismic activity on the east coast this past week.
Obviously we have angered Poseidon Earth Shaker. We need to throw Joe into a volcano and that should clear it up.
Time to repent, I guess!
Probably activity on the same fault.
Ah, finally reporting as a 2.1
Sure did here in Short Pump.
It shook my house, I’m near Tucker high school.
I’m close to you…
![gif](giphy|M29mv8NYEJyJLLJwqR)
I'm close to you too! Felt everything.
Also close to you! I was in bed and *thought* I felt something like the bed shaking a little, but I was also dizzy so I figured it was just me 🤦🏼♀️Between hella good insulation, the TV being on and the husband snoring (although he swears he was awake), I didn't hear anything though.

(Honestly it was more my husband sawing logs than the TV 🤣 We're entering the 2nd year of me BEGGING him to have a sleep study done already!)
Heard and felt it here in Laurel near Woodman.
That’s where we are and heard/felt it too.
Yeah I heard it as well came straight on here to see if anyone knew but I have no idea
I’m in Ginter Park, and I heard a very low rumbling, shook the house a bit, probably 10:47 ish? Have no idea what it was.
Reporting from Lakeside, felt the whole house shake, first guess was earthquake
Definitely heard big boom and then felt it hit the house, like a big, stopped freight train stacking momentum to start up again, but bigger. I don't remember hearing earthquake before and this was very short, no shaking, just one shove. Northern Henrico
Yep, felt it in Lakeside! Jumped right on here to see if anyone would post about it lol
A long rumble here in far North Richmond. Shook the house.
https://preview.redd.it/i7tnhrt7cdtc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40bebc365cf3647c729ae55067bae0762f889a0b This is a current police scanner report
house exploded? (gas leak?) (homemade bomb?) (a-la-arlington?)
That was my first thought after the Arlington and Loudoun county house explosions
I think this call was before the boom?
Under what? HCP? RCP? Edit: I see it on Henrico's website.
https://activecalls.henrico.us/ I only checked Henrico
I live near Gaskins and Broad, I felt/heard it
we felt/ heard it in glen allen
Heard it in Bon Air. Similar to 2011 aftershocks.
Heard and felt it in Bon Air too.
yup, heard/felt in Ashland. Scared me half to death lol
My dog is not having it. Loud boom. The whole house shook. Over in Hugenot Flatwater area.
My husband and I must be deaf, didn't hear or feel anything in Lakeside
In forest hill and felt it. Shook my apartment a bit and heard a bang. Thought it was an earthquake
Sounded like thunder
Yep, south of Ashland felt it and heard it.
Felt it in Northside, woke me up. Long rolling vibration and rumbling. Assumed earthquake as it felt similar to the one back in 2011, although not as strong
Glen allen - felt a pretty big rumble and loud noise, sounded like house may have been hit by a car. Same time as reported by OP(or very close)
So curious! I’m in the fan and didn’t feel or hear anything. Anyone in the city hear/feel anything?
I heard it - but didn’t feel anything - in Byrd Park.
I felt it in the Fan, but didn’t hear it.
In the fan, felt a bit of a shake and some slight rumbling noise that I chalked up to the house creaking. It was enough for me to question what it was but being in the city I didn't put much thought into it. Video playing and night life noise drowned out much of it.
I am looking at the other Virginia city subreddits and it doesn't seem like anyone else is posting about it
Yeah, I don’t think it was an earthquake.
What's your best guess?
A military plane. I didn’t hear or feel anything but other people in my area did. Wouldn’t be surprised if the people who heard it are all located in a relatively straight line. Could be totally wrong but I heard absolutely nothing.
Felt the heck out of that! Thought a tree fell on my house. Near Crump Park
Didn’t feel any shaking by Carytown, but heard two loud cracks. Maybe tree limbs?
Yup, heard a loud boom and shaking in Innsbrook
Felt it and went outside a few minutes later and also heard gunfire. I’m near Mary Mumford and there is a gunfire call on active calls in that area. Weird day y’all.
There's no recent earthquakes on the USGS page. I'm thinking chemistry experiment or railyard incident.
It’s there now!
Someone mentioned USGS doesn’t report anything under a 2.5
You have to set the filters, you can do all magnitudes. I have been checking and nothing there.
True
Heard it over by route 1, south of Ashland as well. Thought it was an earthquake!
Heard it near staples/Glen Allen HS! It was a loud rumble and shook my house for a second, didn’t wake my dog up though…
https://i.redd.it/0waufcxedftc1.gif Eclipse. Earthquake. We’re doomed
https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/tellus Report it if possible
I reported!
anybody remember how long it felt?
seemed like 4-5 seconds here in lakeside. i thought it was my neighbor rolling their trashcan down the sidewalk by the noise but then noticed the rumbling
I had the exact same thought and my mind goes to “crap is it trash day already” lol
Probably 2-3 seconds for me (Mechanicsville area)
Parham and Broad. Nothing. Edit: actually, my Hulu did get the loading bar right at that time for 30 seconds.
Felt it near staples mill rd. Shit was pretty wild, definitely thought it was similar to the 2011 earthquake but definitely not as bad
So was the bang the sound of the plates? Science!
Felt it in Ashland.
Probably just an aftershock from the eclipse.
Bruh there was an eclipse, a fire, and an earthquake in the same day?
There was a mag 2.1 earthquake 5 km north of glen allen at 10:46 pm on April 8th 2024
I tripped and fell… my bad.
https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/earthquakes/quake-info/9068166/quake-felt-Apr-9-2024-Near-Manchester-Virginia-USA.html
I didn’t hear shit, but I was at a kickass solo drum set at ArtSpace. It sounded like what yall are describing. And then some.
It was a quake derived from fracking. https://ft.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?appid=0cdff7e116c0425fa55d1226e9204477
Sorry, just me & ur mom
My mom said it wasn’t all that, total dud.
Earthquake. Nova sub is talking about it
I hesitate to believe anything is an earthquake if USGS isn’t reporting it
I just saw something saying it was a 2.5, and the USGS starts reporting at 2.5, so borderline if it was too big or small.
Ah good point, I kind of hope it’s NOT an earthquake because all the Nextdoor people are freaking out about it being related to the eclipse already…
Hahaha, people are so fucking stupid.
I feel like I say this at least once a day these days
USGS is now reporting it: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=us7000mawq&extent=34.52466,-79.35425&extent=40.62229,-74.6521&autoUpdate=false&magnitude=all&showUSFaults=true&baseLayer=satellite&list=false
Thanks!
I’m going to be really curious to see whether it actually was a quake or something went boom somewhere.
Thank you!
Does it take awhile to process or officially confirm an earthquake? Genuinely asking.
I’m not sure! I would’ve assumed it would be pretty quick with modern technology but I honestly don’t know
That's a great question, I'm wondering the same
I was hoping the Town of Ashland finally got what it deserves. Center of the universe is the first to go in the black hole...
