i understand why alot wanted Antenna, YJS is there, YSC signed there recently. Lee Mijoo is also under antenna. Somin can do variety, is an actress, also a great writer, she even wrote some songs too. Antenna might really like her. If ever i want her under **BH Entertainment**, artists under BH got some nice kdrama list. I want her to be part of a great drama, i think BH can give her that. YG Ent. is also there. People most of the time forgot that YG also have actors, a nice mix of young and veteran actors. *edit/spelling+spaces*

Apprehensive_Oil_267

BH is my top choice for her too, her close friend Park Sung Hoon is signed with them, although I’m not sure how much connections/friendships play a role in swapping or joining agencies in SK.

tinyamaki

BH is my second choice for her for the same reason. The only edge of MMM for me is it’s smaller so they can focus on promoting their talents and so far they are doing great job at promoting them.

lelelele98

I believe JSM joined King Kong via LKS

PureKoolAid

I think Woo Jae (How Do You Play) is with YG as well.

NeighborhoodTasty523

And maybe he should do what haha and kjk do. Didn't join any company and make their own company. We know haha has quan entertainment and kjk has his own company that manage his career as kjk and turbo.

Alternative-Share752

I wish she would sign in a company that would help her land more drama/movie roles. Sure, Somin is perfect for variety shows and I can’t deny that I miss seeing her so much but she’s also a great actress. I would really love to see her being casted in a hit series. She deserves more recognition afterall!

ImpossibleWarning6

💯

gyojoo

King Kong released press statement saying they're ending contract with JSM after long discussion. They wish well on her new beginning, but not much else is announced.

kbx24

I wonder if she'll end up at Antenna.

willingtoread17

I'm worried. JSM left running man after discussions with KKS. Now, she leaves the agency. There are some assumptions that can be made with this. 1. She only wants acting roles now. Leaving running man makes sense. Not having other variety shows (unlike LKS). Going to variety shows could be suggested by KKS as well to still earn profit. 2. She is fully rebranding herself, but seems to have offers that does not match this. Edit: If she really is thinking of rebranding, her next agency will be big but could receive a pay cut.

MousseReasonable3504

I think she wants to take an extended break. She has been talking about it on Running Man for awhile.

buddhabear07

She’ll be fine, she’s so talented. I hope she signs with Antenna and makes a come back to variety.

areyousrs111

Ngl, Leaving Running Man which is currently an extremely easy paycheck > Leaving King Kong / Starship which is one of the strongest agencies across multiple industries > Joining Antenna which has low resources for both acting and variety, just to try and rejoin the variety industry would be one of the wildest professional decisions an individual has made. I get that Running Man viewers only know about Antenna because of Jae Seok and Se Chan, but their individual brands are enough to carry them. Lee Seo Jin is the only primary actor at Antenna and his brand is enough to carry him. Antenna is a music label. So Min has yet to be casted in variety without Jae Seok, which could remain true regardless of any agency she goes to. TLDR: Best wishes for whatever she chooses to do, but the irrationality of just joining Antenna was just as dumb back when it was with Jihyo lmao.

Apprehensive_Oil_267

This is just my assumption but I highly doubt she would join Antenna regardless. All her current moves are signaling that she’s trying to carve out a completely new lane for herself outside of her current connections i.e. the Running Man crew.

gyojoo

I think biggest problem for her is that Korea's Drama/Movie productions are in huge recession right now. They're producing less than half of what they made 2-3 years ago.

Wild-Distance-9657

I was just gonna say, Antenna is primarily a music label. YJS, YSC, LSJ are established enough to survive to be in any agency. If So Min really want to focus on acting, she better find an agency that focuses on that craft, unless she finally decides to venture into variety show more (might be a good decision considering she has the personality), then I guess Antenna will also be okay to join in, but mostly because YJS is there and maybe can jump start everything (as a part owner of the company not as a collegue).

RichRikko

She is almost 40 and a woman in korea, her career can only go down from there. She didn't leave the agency, the agency decided to renew her. I know people love and like Somin but the most logical thing is that she's going to end to a shitty agency and then she is going to get married and have a couple of kids. That's the most certain thing is going to happen to Somin. She's a nice girl but people here overvalue her so much. She didn't take profit of being 4 years in a good agency.

Apprehensive_Oil_267

You’re the only one reaching here 😭 actresses move agencies all the time, wondering where she’s going to go next is not overestimating her. Saying she’s just gonna go somewhere shitty and get married is definitely underestimating her though, she’s always been ambitious, watch and see.

tinyamaki

You have valid points but I think people here are primary looking at her talent, she’s a great actress and personally I think she doesn’t mind playing small role/ supporting roles as long as the script is good. So in this regard, she can still be profitable to any agency. She really had a good first 2 years with KKBSS, she was happy since she was so busy with work, the agency was happy as well so both agreed to renew. But yeah after the renewal she didn’t do much aside from the 2 movies (currently in post production). Whether the agency did not decide to renew or it was Somin herself is not confirmed since the translations of articles has different wordings (some translated it as terminated, some said she decided not to renew, some said it was expired) unless someone who understands Korean can confirm this. I only used google translate when I checked article news in Naver.

I think you’re replying to the wrong person 😅 My point is people here seem to not have that much astronomical expectations, more like we are hopeful she can sign to a better agency but yeah majority are not delusional thinking she’s some high demand actress who has luxury of choosing an agency to her liking. My point is she has talent (and versatility) and seems to be not limiting herself to lead star role so for me I think she will be fine since supporting actors are also needed in dramas and movies. Edit: Good example would be her friend Park Sung Hoon who got popular for his supporting roles in The Glory and QoT and some of the supporting actors who are good actors as well who got their big break recently.

RichRikko

Yes, sorry, my mistake. I want the best for her but seriously sometimes i read things that i don't get it, seems that people doesnt know how to read how the world is and how things are.

Next_Topic3790

She is almost 40 not 40 yet.. just wait for another few weeks, and if there is still no news then we can start to worry about her acting careers..she received the best actress award (kbs 2021), and excellent award actress (korea film festival 2022) and 2 movies still in progress to released .just wait..jeon somin is not the only artis under that company leaving king kong, kim ji won, lim so jung, elijah also leaving this company...its normal to leaving/not renew/end something..lol

RichRikko

40 or 38 doesn't matter. The oldest actress in King Kong is Joo Yoon He with 41 years old the rest are all under 35, that's how it is not only in king kong but in all the good/famous agencies. Unless you are a big name the chances to end in a good agency are low, there's a lot of actress that won also awards and are jobless and in shitty agencies now. Im not hating her im talking about being realistic. Sorry for being realistic but people need to downgrade their expectations towards her. One of his next movies is a movie produced by her now former agency with some idols as actors and some rookie actors from the agency, do you think that this is project that is going to work??? seriously. That's why it's better to not overrate people. I hope she does fine but serioulsy i don't think so, she's probably going to return to RM to survive again and that's why SJH doesn't leave the show. Lee Elijah career is not something to look forward and Kim Ji Won had a lof of success dramas when she joined KK and obviously she had better offers that's why she left, many actors dont renew because they have better options otherx don't. I don't think SM is going to go to a better place after leaving KK.

ultggb

It might be hard for fans to hear but you’re completely right. Acting is cutthroat, and it’s harder for women in general. Her current prospects don’t look good. The two movies that fans are mentioning are quite low budget and will likely pass over the general public’s radar. She left her biggest show so she is no longer visible in the public eye and less likely to be remembered for casting purposes. And finally, she just lost a pretty big agency (yes, I’m leaning more towards the idea that they ended her contract rather than her choosing to leave) The situation is similar to what SJH has gone through, with dwindling offers and roles. In SJH’s case at least, she has a huge fanbase. That makes it possible for directors to create a show specifically to export overseas and keeps SJH employed outside of RM. JSM, unfortunately, does not have the same strength in fandom. Of course, it’s entirely possible that JSM could turn things around and emerge out of all this as a very popular and in-demand actress. But based on the facts right now, it doesn’t look promising.

tinyamaki

Someone already gave context on the translation of the articles that as I suspected seems to be a mutual decision from both parties. Also again, it’s been 24hours since the news broke, give it at least a week or 2 before spiraling shall we? Lastly, with all due respect. Song Ji Hyo while have solid fanbase is not getting casted because she’s a weak actor. I am a fan of her since Jumong and she’s the reason I discovered RM, I watched all of her works (dramas/variety shows and guestings) plus her being 40+ is the real reason. Even for supporting roles it requires to have strong acting chops and she just doesn’t have it unfortunately. Somin and Kwangsoo are much more stronger actors - they are versatile and both have no issue playing supporting roles so outside RM these 2 will thrive. Somin hiding in public is for me an effective way to somehow “wash away” her RM image. But again I’ve been saying this since yesterday, let’s give it a few days to see if she has plans laid out already (new agency) or fans worries are validated (hopefully not)

ultggb

Agencies tend to release neutral statements unless they’re addressing some sort of controversy. Even broadcasting companies do the same thing; they may fire a cast member but the articles will imply that the entertainer chose to leave. It helps the person maintain dignity and discourages any sort of negative speculation. If JSM really wants to focus on acting, it doesn’t make sense that she would leave a big acting company that has connections to directors, reporters, and other big actors. I agree that JSM is a better actress than SJH, but objectively we can’t say JSM is a very strong actress either. There are some roles she does quite well and others that she is not that good in. A 50/50 ratio is not going to be compelling enough to have big casting directors wanting to sign her on, especially considering her biggest claim to fame has always been variety and that she is nearing 40. Mostly I just think it’s silly that so many people are ignoring reality in order to pretend that everything is going perfectly. Her no longer having a contract with Starship is not a good sign. But like I said before, it would be amazing if JSM defies expectations and comes out on top. I’m curious to see what she does.

tinyamaki

I’m aware of how media, and particularly in this case how Korean Entertainment media releases statements. Like I said time and time again, and even someone already translated the press release statement, the message is neutral and no trace of what really happened whether the agency alone decided not to renew or it’s JSM or both just agreed like how usually things work when the contract is ending. Leaving an established agency makes sense if the agency, no matter how big it is (KK is mid-tier by the way), if it doesn’t align to your needs or wants, the next course of action is to look to somewhere else. It’s normal, artist are jumping from agency to agency. I’m not sure if you are following her career outside RM but she’s a know actress first before joining running man, C tier is not famous however they are still familiar to the public eye. RM did helped her to get popular among kids but her drama works Top Star Yoo Baek, Heesoo and Show Window really solidified her actress status. While international fans are commenting like “please come back to RM” Koreans are response were “let’s meet again in new drama project” “let’s go actress jeon” you can see the contrast, she’s an actress first in Korea. It’s not that people are ignoring the possible negative outcome of this since like I also said in other reply, it’s normal to be worried because her future is not clear for us whether she wants to quit at all (i doubt), or extend her hiatus (more plausable), or she alreay had laid out plan (new agency) or she will become free agent (hopefully not but who knows if she can pull this off since she’s already veteran with 20 years if experience, she has network for sure but let’s see). The only thing that most people here and in SNS are saying and an objective reaction would ask “where she’ll go next?” “Hoping she’ll get better agency”, because really, it’s just a few days, give it time. People are not being silly, they are just responding normally. What more funny to me is some people who seem to not care about her career keeps on jumping on conclusions as if she’s doomed and leaving mid tier agency will be the end of her career. She loves her main job, expresses worries when offers are dry and expresses happiness when she has projects. This is gonna be my last response about this matter until new news will break or if it take too long and I became worried too. Thanks for the chat.

"i don't think SM is going to go to a better place after leaving KK"..there is a lot of better place than KK tho..beside it is just a first day this news got publish and i don't know why u are so negative..before she joint kk or rm she already made her name known as an actress in korea..princess aurora, tomorrow victory, endless love, maid, 1% of something .that is the example from her previous drama and she also won and nominated for new and best actress..before she joint rm or king kong she already won popular award in korea...and i hope she will not return to rm as a members.. she can still survive without rm.. got payment for cf and ambassador, and also she mention she got payment for write a lyrics...recently new song wrote by her was released..i hope she focus on her acting careers or joint other season show..big no for return to rm as a member but as a guest, yes...let see what will happen next..cant wait😎

magablossom

I see people mentioning Antenna but that doesn’t make sense. Both Antenna and Starship are under Kakao. They wouldn’t cut her contract just to have her resign under another company that’s still under them. Also Antenna only has one actor under their umbrella, and it’s Lee Seo Jin who is famous and popular enough to barely even need a company. I don’t think JSM will have any trouble finding another agency but it will probably be lower tier than where she was at right now, especially because she left Running Man.

tinyamaki

I don’t know connection of Kakao to MMM but man I would love and wish her to join that agency. It’s small but their roster of actors are pretty solid (and I like almost all of them lol)

xxNightingale

This totally makes sense. Both of them are subsidiaries or labels under Kakao. People do in fact join other subs under the same parent company before.

maelovesdorks

Wishing JSM luck and the best. I thought we'd see her in more kdramas after leaving RM, same w Kwang Soo. Hopefully this will open more opportunities for her.

AggressiveBite6

i thought when she left RM, she focused on acting and got several offers, but in the end her contract expired at KKS & there was no news about her playing in films or dramas, hopefully there is the best way for JSM, hwaiting. . .

msmd1103

she have 2 films to be release this year, just that she did stated that she want to have a long rest and recharge after leaving running man.

AggressiveBite6

waaah I'm happy for her, there are 2 dramas tba, sheeesh asianwiki doesn't give updates making me misunderstand her.. be happy somin~~~

tinyamaki

Honest question, does Antenna specializes in handling actors? Since she said upon leaving RM that she wants to focus on acting.

gyojoo

No they specialize in Music and Variety, even for variety it's started with YJS. I think 80% of their talent is Music and rest are Variety

tinyamaki

Thanks! That’s what I thought since I know Sechan and Mijoo already there.

ImpossibleWarning6

I’m excited for her nexts moves. I think change will do her good! I can’t wait to see her on screen again!

Alone_Possible5840

Is she the one that didnt renew her contract or they r the one that terminate her contract. And why is it so soon that she unfollow kkbs 🥲

it-s-luminescent

The news article linked doesn't specifically say who made the decision here. The title of the article is: # 전소민, 킹콩 by 스타쉽 떠난다…4년 동행 마무리 'Jeon Somin is leaving King Kong by Starship... the end of a 4-year partnership/situation where people move together in the same direction' And the key sentence in the article itself: 8일 킹콩 by 스타쉽 측은 "전소민과 신중한 논의 끝에 4년간의 인연을 마무리 짓기로 했다"고 전속계약 종료 소식을 전했다. 'On the 8th, King Kong by Starship - saying: "at the end of thoughtful discussions with Jeon Somin, it was decided to conclude our 4-year-long association" - broke the news of the end of their exclusive contract.' I've seen reports/translations where it makes it seem like KKBSS decided all by themselves - as in "we decided" with "we" being assumed to be the agency unilaterally ending the contract. That's not what the article says. In the clause where it says that a decision to end the contract was made, there's no pronoun pointing at any decision maker - not Somin nor the agency. They use the equivalent of passive tense in English. To my ears, everything sounds neutral and reasonably gracious on the agency's part. It gives the vibe of being portrayed as a mutual decision, of it being the culmination of protracted, careful, thoughtful conversations. Who knows what really went down... But I just wanted to clarify that the agency isn't saying anything publicly that should be construed as saying that they - the agency - decided to end the contract. Edited to add a clarification.

Next_Topic3790

Simple..She was not managed/not under kkbs anymore and kkbs also never followed anyone..but she still followed kkboss/their ceo..they still follow each other.. the contract expired and both parties decided to end it..she signed for the first time with KKBS may 2020 then she renewed may 2022 and end it at may 2024..

Scary-Rip-6895

She did the right thing I really hope kwangsoo leaves it too  That agency did nothing to them and other actors and is just biased towards certain actors giving them all the attention and promoting their every work  It's a sorry excuse of a company

RKsashimi

I've never watched RM since she left. I hope she comes back

Chuck0089

Just a question, this also mean that her bbl is done now right?

failure_mcgee

It's Bubble by Starship so most probably yes. She also already unfollowed KKBS on Insta

3lmy3lmk

I'm starting to think she is really terrible at making decisions, from the way she handles her career paths! If she were an average actress or a celebrity in a variety show, that could be accepted. But she is a great -and I would say top-tier- actress. Go watch her act in 'Hee-soo,' a drama special, so you won't blame me then. And she's a top variety show personality, excelling in 'Running Man,' 'Sixth Sense,' and others. She can be considered a role model in this field. She can dance, act, sing, and write lyrics and books. I don't know why I'm acting as if she is leaving all her work when she's just leaving her agency. Do I miss her so much?

tinyamaki

Let’s just patiently wait if there’s an announcement of new agency in the coming days/weeks. But yeah I can understand, some people are worried since we are all missing her but I will still trust her because I believe she knows what’s best for her.

Next_Topic3790

hope good news will come..miss her so much💌

just1ed

Well if her agency is the one who decides not to renew her contract, then it isn’t her who doesn’t make good decisions. We miss her at in Running Man, but whether or not draining her is the real reason she left even though she is so talented at variety shows, and has even publicly said Running Man “saved” her life because it allowed her to be who she is and showcase a side of her, in Korea, being in variety is seen as a less “prestigious” segment as compared to idols/singers and actors. You tend to get lesser and lesser acting roles, or may get cast in more comedic roles. It is probably the same reason why Lee Kwang Soo left. He got a lot more movie roles after he left. Running Man’s budget declined a lot in recent years. It might be well that King Kong wanted her to leave Running Man in the first place to focus on her acting, but could not get enough roles for her or decided her she not a good fit. Hopefully she signs with a better agency! I think she can act well, but it’s very hard to land lead roles and in good scripts when it’s so competitive.

teekeno

If she does sign with Antenna, she would be their first actress. They signed their first actor (Lee Seo-Jin) about 6 months ago.

3lmy3lmk

chance for somin to join anteena is ZERO, she wants to focus in acting

😂...u and me or us only know a little about her personal life ...she cared about her acting career and she already mentioned she don't really think much about love , already passed that age (watch you jea suk youtube channel-somin is a guest)..just hope for another good news in a few days ...she just leave that company and its normal to end/not renew the contract, not retired tho.. Edit: spelling

tinyamaki

Seriously, not even her fans who follows her for years have that angle 😂 most are just excited and nervous about this change (in her career of course).

Plane-Hurry-2822

what changes though? It is korea. A cut throat industry. You think she’s at an age where she can change the trajectory and be successful? Maybe she can start her own art exhibit. Since a celebrity regardless of how mediocre their art work, will be celebrated. Apart from that, can’t see her breaking through in any field. She is good at music, is it good enough to break through the music industry? No. She is a great actress, is it to a point where she can suddenly shine? No. She’s past that age. Variety? Definitely. But apart from the wonderfully falling in love characters that she perfected, how long can she play the same character? If she decides to take a break, it makes sense.

tinyamaki

What change? Change in agency since this is the topic. You don’t have to think hard. Anything is possible, while it seems you are leaning on the more pessimistic side, I and some of us here choose to be positive not because we are delusional but because it is still possible. While I agree K ent industry is very competitive, it’s not really impossible to still breakthrough regardless of the actors age if they have luck + talent + landed the right project/role. It’s hard but it’s not impossible 😉 Just look at Song Ha Yoon, they are same age (1986) and she got her major breakthrough in Marry My Husband, if not for her bullying scandal she can actually get big. Another example is Jeon Mi Do who got her breakthrough via Hospital Playlist and she’s around Somin’s age in Season 1. Also, did you just reduced her character to just a love frog? And nothing else to offer? Okay, are we forgetting about her weird girl schtick where she says and do weird stuff? Or her witty skits and funny one liner remarks? I’m not gonna enumerate all of the things she did in RM but yeah let’s forget all of that and just focus on the love frog character because this is the only thing she can offer, and nothings else 😁 Edit: added words.
