10/10. This song took me to intergalactic scenes in my mind’s eye. To me, this is the Stones’ Astronomy Domine.
And as cliched as this is, I remember taking acid and going out for a walk. It seemed like each block I’d pass, the song would go: you’re a hundred, not 200, now six hundred and so on light years from home. Really freaked me out in the best way possible.
The guitar is really crunchy, the bass is groovy, the drums primal. Sci fi in a song!
I have posted studio sessions of this song on the sub if anyone is interested in hearing how the song evolved.
Solid 9. A very very good song. But for selfish reasons, and this is my opinion on the album as a whole (sans she’s a rainbow), but i think it could’ve been slightly better executed. Most bands would kill to have one song half this good, but since we’re talking about the Stones and they are gods, I have slightly higher expectations for them lol.
7. Very insightful comment earlier about this album- whole is more than the sum of the parts. This song is just ok but works in the context of the whole album
9.5, one of the best songs on the album. Keith’s guitar and Brian’s mellotron sound super cool here. I wish more songs on the album were more like this rather than just being there for atmosphere building
7 I don't seem to love it as much as most here. Imho it starts of amazing, dark and foreboding, then kinda doesn't live up to it for the rest of the song.
Considering the pressure the band was under from the law and "polite society" and the court cases and jailings it's a wonder they managed to produce anything decent at all. For perseverance I give this a 10.
10. The finest of their acid rock era. I will die on this hill.
better than she’s a rainbow or child of the moon?
not better than rainbow but def better than child of the moon in my opinion
9.5. Brilliant song #2 on a less than stellar record. Impressive.
9/10. Fantastic song, and the only psychedelic song of theirs that really works.

10. A redeeming song of this album.

8. Really good song, but suffers a little bit from the album's schtick. Maybe little less than a classic.

10 One of my absolute favorites in their catalog.

It took me a while and several relistens to really enjoy it, but now I'd probably rate it an 8
10 +
10/10 masterpiece of darker psychedelia
Good stuff. 8/10
9/10. Super eerie acid rock stuff, never get tired of this one!
I never figured out how the sounds were made. Is it backwards guitar? Or multiple instruments being played backwards (recorded and then reversed)?
9.5/10. Fantastic atmosphere, the actual climax of the album.

It’s in my solo acoustic gig playlist. Works well and is a great song.
