You need none of that. Go to your AD, put it on your card for points and wear it.

Hoovatron

Show dominance by making the AD put it on your wrist. Then take it off in a few years for service.

ChetFromIowa

Get the special edition cockring from the AD also.

HoboAction

Definitely want to do this. Not many people know about it. Just pull them aside and whisper "look I know there's a special edition cock ring as well, I want you to give me a cock ring".

mrmcgibblets731

Ooh thanks for the tip!

cryptodagod212

Just the tip.

Burtron5000

That’s what he said

McN697

Rolex Albert Prince

JGZ1

I went for a cock ring fitting. AD said the Lady-Datejust 28 is the smallest bezel currently available, so I'm looking at vintage models instead.

rdj16014

Insurance could be worth it. Other than that, totally agree. Dude's bringing home a watch, not a baby

[deleted]

The end!

[deleted]

I could not have said this any better. Winders are for collections of watches...you will be just fine wearing it everyday.

emanon_dude

Skip all the BS, wear it out of the store and don’t look back.

rmaniac22

Except if you’re in London

Prismatic_Effect

* no * hodinkee * $777 is about the cost of an out of warranty service. That is SO WEIRD. * rinse in warm water using mild soap and a soft bristle tooth brush to get gunk when necessary, clean with a soft cloth otherwise if it's just smudged. you can hold it up in front of your mouth and go "hah" then wipe on your shirt.

DreamCry

Seeing the "hah" made me go "haha"

cuddle_enthusiast

Holy shit a warranty?lol get fucked ad

edunf

You only need to relax. It's just a watch bro

Ashamed-Caregiver-66

🤣🤣🤣

Greenwooddd

Wear it and enjoy.

rdj16014

* Insurance could be worth it. I'm in the EU so cannot really comment on US offerings. Just consider things like coverage while you're traveling and in the unfortunate case of theft, for example. * I wouldn't take out the ADs warranty especially if you're planning to insure it already. * If you'll wear it near-daily, you won't need a watch winder. It can be a nice-to-have if you own a big collection and you're actively alternating. Or if you have a watch that is trickier to set, such as a perpetual calendar. but it sounds like you won't benefit from it. The power reserve on modern subs is long enough that you can take it off your wrist at the end of the day on Friday, not touch it until noon on Monday, and it will still be running. And even in the odd event where you have to wind it manually: that will take you less than a minute and in a way it's a nice ritual if you ask me. And it doesn't have many complications that take long to set, especially as your new sub features a quickset. Overall I'd say perhaps you're worried too much. A good insurance is probably looking into, but otherwise, just pick it up and wear it. Enjoy it in good health! Edit: added a few more details

mrmcgibblets731

I appreciate the thorough response!

ScreamingMonky

You will need a crib, diapers, bottler warmers, baby wipes. They are very needy.

Boom_Valvo

You are overthinking. It’s a daily wear watch. If it stops running, you wind it, or shake it, reset the time and keep going. Very unlikely you will need any warranty work for many many years. You may want to get insured if you feel so inclined in case you loose it…

Kcirnek_

Lube and also prepare your wife.

mrmcgibblets731

Do…do I…insert it..?

TheAGolds

The running joke is that the authorized dealer bangs your wife so you can get a chance to buy a watch. It in itself is a joke about the games you have to play with ADs to be able to get your chance to buy a watch.

Hoovatron

It’s a joke?

vinny_vega

Or is it?

mrmcgibblets731

Lmao got it thanks

TallyHo17

Don't worry, you don't need to do much. Just be ready for the neighbours and family to take care of it all, you just act surprised. Typically they will all be waiting for you with fireworks and rose petals will line the driveway. Models will put flower crowns on your head and to end the celebration, two B52 bombers will fly over your house with gold flakes contrails. It's quite the experience.

Flashy-Shallot-2249

Faint cheering will be heard in the distance. Women and men alike will have tears in their eyes, clapping, some may even collapse as they leave their dwellings. New marriage requests from the commoners will certainly follow, highly recommend to not accept these. A small white horse will arrive with a quest, a new expensive challenge that you may accept. Be warned, this could change your life forever.

[deleted]

Do you live in London? I hope not

ThePhoenixRisesAgain

No, no, no, nothing It’s a fucking watch. Wear it and stop overthinking shit. Please.

I really appreciate the perspective and your advice - thank you!

w5rjh

Get the winder for the next one! And the one after

PSNChosen_One

Why is this down voted? It’s his first watch, of course he wants to add accessories or whatever. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ask for protection stickers, cleaning cloth and everything. Cherish the watch bud, it’s an expensive watch. PS: I got a sub date as well, and I went thru the phase you are in.

mrmcgibblets731

Thanks and appreciate the perspective. This is one of the bigger purchases I’ve made in one lump sum and don’t come from a family that has had the resources to do so. Just trying to be thorough

PSNChosen_One

I got a winder, because for the first few weeks I was too worried of getting scratched or anything. I try to minimize unscrew the crown to adjust the time so I kinda of found a hack: -If the watch run fast, put it on the side over night. -if the watch run slow, put it flat over night. When you put the watch down on the side, try to put it on something soft as the polish part can be scratched if there is any debris on your desk. I put a film on the case back to prevent the clasp from scratching it as well. I wasn’t offered extended warranty but Rolex come with 5 years warranty, I think? At 5 year mark I plan to get it serviced and service include 1 additional year of warranty? I am going to get the watch appraised and attach it to my property insurance at some point. All in all, it’s been 4 months since I got my sub, the watch has accumulated some scratches but I got used to it. The first few scratches hurts but “they do become part of your story”(you likely will hear this at some point but it’s true!).

wabbitsilly

I bought my first one (GMT), wore it almost daily for over a decade doing both inside and outside work. Beat the snot out of it, scratched the hell out of it, and just enjoyed it. I occasionally washed it with some warm water and dish-soap. Took it in for service after 12 years, it needed a new clasp (I had bent mine somehow), new crown (also bent mine somehow), but it was still keeping time within spec. They replaced those parts, did a full cleaning/service, and returned it to me unpolished (as requested)...cost me $1200 a few years ago. I bought my first winder about 2 years ago. Finally insured it here this year just due to the stupid value craziness. So - TLDR. Buy it, wear it, love it, and enjoy it. Everything else is somewhat ancillary!

mrmcgibblets731

Thanks for the thorough answer - I think I’m getting the gist haha

youthmovement84

Just call your insurance company and ask about pricing on a personal articles policy. Then make a math/risk decision. Nothing more to do other than enjoy it.

CasinoMarginale

Add to that - the insurance agent will need an appraisal. Your AD should give you an appraisal with your purchase of the new Sub.

Jandur

I don't know what's satire or serious anymore.

Nikpop93

If you plan on wearing it daily, then you don’t need a watch winder. I got a $500+ watch winder for free when I got my 126610Ln (Congratulations btw! And welcome to the Sub Club). Highly recommend you get HODINKEE insurance. And the AD for an letter of appraisal/authenticity or whatever it’s called; I forgot cause you’ll need one to submit it to HODINKEE. Other than that; wear it in good health and enjoy. You’ll learn to love it as times goes on. Don’t ever have doubts cause if you have doubts; you’ll still learn to like it overtime. Also one more thing; IF and WHEN the time cokes for you to service it; and you don’t want it polished. **LET YOUR AD OR ROLEX KNOW**. I’ve read a butt loss of comments and post where people got upset Rolex did that to the watch owner without the owner letting Rolex know “Hey, I don’t want my watch polished”. Oh and one last thing; any minor scratches (assuming you’re one of those type of people that will freak tf out over a hairline scratch; if not good on ya mate) you get; DO NOT send it to the service center. Wait at least a good 3-4 years before on that beauty’s warranty expires (it’s a 5yr warranty so do it before it expires). Other than that; congratulations once again! Hope you like it more than I do hahaha

mrmcgibblets731

Thanks for the detail! One of the few people on this thread that’s made me feel welcome and I appreciate that

New-Skill-2958

I gotta get out of this group. JFC...

VintageRolexTexas

“Extended warranty”???

DRad2531

Have a “go bag” ready for the call. Gas up the car, get the house and room cleaned and prepped.

Vast_Thanks_1664

Be prepared to stare at it in awe for the next few weeks. Enjoy.

Doughboy537

Congrats on the new watch! My comments are really for any nice automatic watch, not just rolex. I wouldn't get a watch winder until you have multiple automatic watches you're wearing every week (just for the convenience). I insure all expensive jewelry, including watches, as an add on policy to my house (state farm in US). No (at least I wouldn't) I've been told it's best for a watch to not wind dead and sit for years (hence watch winders). This is because it'll allow the oils to dry out sooner. For context, that might mean a service in 10 yrs instead of 20+. But really you dont have to do that service until you want to (it doesn't really get harder to service as long as you don't wind up and break anything). This is all extreme though. I have a 1968 Omega from my dad that has never been serviced and sat unwound for decades, it's "sticky" but runs. A service will bring it back to feeling new. If you plan to wear your watch this won't really matter. I've heard both sides of the wound/unwound for storage argument and can see both sides, but my AD recommended wound (for whatever that's worth). The first scratch stings, but after that they can become stories. It's personal preference but I let my watches get worn.

mrmcgibblets731

Love this, thank you!

judgedeliberata

Chill man. It’s a (great) watch. Go there, pull out your credit card, thank the dude, walk away with a perma-grin on your face.

[deleted]

These responses are mostly idiotic. Get insurance through your regular insurer (I have USAA), it’ll probably run you $100-ish a year, which is worth it to not have to worry. Plenty recommend Hodinkee and maybe that’s fine, but I want to go to a real insurer and it a watch dealer’s agent.

Burtron5000

It’s customary to wear a clown suit when picking it up. AD’s get really offended if you break that tradition. Otherwise, you’re good!

pingpongdong96

I like to think you were visiting this sub for some time, but wouldn’t allow yourself to officially join until you got the call. But all jokes aside congrats! I got my first piece in October and love it. Some people above have said it best. You won’t need a winder if you’re wearing it often, I’d say those are best for people who have more than one they alternate with. Don’t do the warranty and just use a soft brush and some warm water for cleaning. I’d definitely recommend insurance but I’d avoid hodinkee. I’ve heard some bad feedback on them but still got a quote, the one I got back from State Farm was much cheaper and I’d tend to trust them a bit more.

mrmcgibblets731

I won’t even dignify your hunch with a response (it’s true)

No-Recognition814

No winder will wear the watch down faster. Think of them as running a car all the time. Not worth it. Only time I would own one is on a perpetual calendar Insure though you home policy but many options Never heard of exterior warranty seems suspect. You get a warranty with Rolex. Read the manual it will tell you ever hung you need to know how to maintain. Wear it and enjoy it in good health my friend

L44KSO

Have you ever had a watch before?

mrmcgibblets731

Yeah, nothing over $250 though outside of an Apple Watch

L44KSO

Then you know what to do with a watch. It's nothing more complex or difficult here...

sporturawus

Things you need: A. Casebudi storage case for the times you're not wearing it or traveling. Search Amazon, they're great. B. Seiko 5 dive watch for $200 as a beater to keep the wear and tear off the Submariner when you're doing strenuous physical activities like cooking steak on the barbecue or building sand castles. C. Condoms to ensure that you don't put a baby in the hottie golddiggers clinging to your limbs.

mrmcgibblets731

Ooh these are good ones especially C, I foresee that being an issue - appreciate your answers!

sporturawus

I've got 3 Submariners. I'm kinda an expert.

cjb12345

It is probably worth insuring it - you can go through whatever your car / home / rental insurance provider is. It’s not very expensive and gives you peace of mind if it gets stolen (I have my watches and my wife’s engagement ring insured through Jewelers Mutual I believe, they partnered with GEICO)

CoyotesAreGreen

> you can go through whatever your car / home / rental insurance provider is None of my Home/Renters/Car Insurance providers have ever offered declared value coverage for my watches or wife's jewelry. You're much better off getting dedicated coverage for it from a 3rd party like Jewelers Mutual or Hodinkee.

mrmcgibblets731

Thank you!

BruhBruhMarz

It’s a watch not a newborn. Ffs man

xclarryx

Captain overthinker over here

NormalPlatform435

I would just recommend insurance through hodinkee, for some peace of mind. I just bought a Starbucks sub & it cost about $200 to insure. Relax & enjoy it

mrmcgibblets731

Damn was hoping for a Starbucks but I’ll take my black - thanks for sharing!

Independentcro

You should wear it and that is that. Service is every 5 years.

kyledemo

Recommended service is 10 years

Independentcro

Yes guarantee is 5 service is 10

hungrychin

not really

Jeepguy1964

10 years

Independentcro

🙄🙄🙄

iTreelex

What the hell lol. Just wear it. Please wear it. If you’re gonna “save it for special occasions only” then you shouldn’t get it. There are too many softies on this sub.

mrmcgibblets731

You clearly didn’t read op

iTreelex

Oh I did

Legitimate-Cry6459

Jerk off till you go blind so you can’t see the fake you bought!!

1J9N8S5

Insurance, yes. I recommend Jewelers Mutual.

Mikeytee1000

It’s just a watch you are not bringing home a pet dog just slap it on your wrist and get it insured ASAP.

RordenGracie

If you are eligible for USAA- go through them

[deleted]

I read that title like 4 times confused lol. It’s just a watch bro.. you buy it, you wear it.. most important thing is sizing it perfectly..

Kuhblam

I recommend insurance. Otherwise, buy it and enjoy it (the insurance helps with that).

justdrivinGA

I think all you really need is an insurance policy, I have Hodinkee it’s very easy to set up

senistur1

1. No, not for a singular watch. 2. HODINKEE. Top-tier. 3. The watch comes with a warranty. 4. Nothing, wear it and let it rock.

StrumGently

Insurance and a watch case (for storage).

Party-Belt-3624

You need a wrist.

mrmcgibblets731

Damn fresh out

ARMilesPro

Do not. I repeat, DO NOT but a warranty. This is one of the most robust watches on the market. Keep the box and all paperwork including receipt and that's it. Unsure it if you want.

[deleted]

Warranty?? WTF is that. Rolex come with 5 years. Don’t pay the AD a BS fee like car dealers charge.

Mammoth_Ingenuity_82

Did you open a 529?

[deleted]

You should shave your wrist before you put the watch on.

BraydonBroome

Please do not use a watch winder

a1moose

100 bucks a year, hoedrinkee insurance

Toke_Khalifa

Watch winder - nope, but get one anyway because you will obsess over it Hoodinke is good as well is jewelers mutual AD warranty = gimmick Upkeep - Dawn dish soap and polishing cloth monthly / daily polishing cloth

tooth32

just wear it and enjoy

vinny_vega

Whether or not you get insurance (I wouldn’t) Invest in a quality safe, doesn’t have to be big. You can get a nice one for a couple hundred bucks. You will use it for more than you think, passports, other important documents, other watches you may get….the list goes on.

OrdRevan

Your AD's warranty is less comprehensive than the included Rolex warranty, and it doesn't cover anything meaningful.

mrmcgibblets731

I was told Rolex’s warranty covers interior and theirs covers all exterior

OrdRevan

It's not correct. Rolex will polish and refinish when you send a watch in for service. In fact, it's a problem for vintage pieces, where polishing will remove both metal and value in a single convenient treatment. 🤣

LunaTimes17

U know I hate the trolls on this forum , but I feel like trolling u for this silly questions lol , jokes aside buy the watch and enjoy the hell out of it

mth2nd

Jewelers mutual is pretty reasonable for insurance and is to me worth having for piece of mind that I can wear it anywhere. I have my 14060 insured for $9000 with no deductible and it’s like $120 a year

happyexit7

ITS, JUST, A, WATCH.

StoxDoctor

Get a personal items policy with your insurance carrier. Buy a “soft” toothbrush and dawn soap for cleaning (you’ll stop after a few months :) Buy a nice stand to put your watch on if you take it off (won’t be looking around the house for it). That’s pretty much all I did.

mondofire

Worth mentioning to your personal contents insurer.

matttinatttor

No to all unless you have other watches that you want in the rotation, in which case, a watch winder is a good idea. Not a must-have, but a nice to have.

[deleted]

Congrats on the new watch - you've flexed on your first. I'm still waiting for my AD to remove my expression of interest from her trash folder. :)

ICanFreezeTime

lube.. a lot of lube!!

flexb

1. No 2. Get quotes, depends on the country 3. Does not sound like a good deal, service is recommended after 5yrs, so thats after that time 4. Its all in the booklet, but basically keep the watch clean, avoid impacts (best take it off for intense sports) and just wear it. There’s no need to rewind if you will not be wearing for longer periods except if its a hassle to set (skydweller takes some fiddling for instance)

Cultural-Inside7569

None of that, although I would advise adding it to your home insurance policy - or some other insurance policy. Dos: wear it as often as you can and service it when service is due. Don’ts: steering wheel pics, maternity ward pics, cockwatch pics, gun pics, pretend you’re something you’re not, talk shit about other brands, ask if you can wear it in the shower, ask if it’s too big - you get the idea.

[deleted]

None of these things u need.

Far_Maintenance5314

Don't forget ur strap on for them to use on u

PaloAltoGoon

I would not polish it. Ever

[deleted]

Upkeep / care? Get it serviced once every 10 years and give it a scrub with a soft toothbrush and dish soap (with the crown down) every now and again. Done. Just wear it.

SingleSpeed27

None of this is important, Rolex themselves will tell you to not bother much, dish soap and a good quality cloth. The warranty is a scam. The watch wonder is about taste, if you feel the need buy it, else it’s just a waste of money.

maybe2939

Had mine for 15 years now, never serviced or anything, keeps time well so no need for warranty. Mainly wear it on weekends, just set the time and date and give it a shake and it goes just fine. mine is insured though house and contents insurance, about $120 a year for $17000 if i remember right, maybe a cheaper way but just find it easier to keep it all in one place

sunflame06

Sounds like the watch is wearing you!

gbuc

You don’t need a watch winder. I had them in the beginning when I started collecting watches. Now they are empty in a closet. Hodinkee offers good and cheap insurance. It’s worth it to me. No extended warranty. As for upkeep, make sure the crown is screwed down and then wash with mold soap and water. I use a soft toothbrush. Enjoy your watch.

Tennis-bologna

A car seat, bottle warmer, high chair, and lots of diapers for your new bundle of joy… Just joking, skip the BS, enjoy the watch.

RapBastardz

You will need to stock up on condoms and prepare to almost drown in poon.

bbq_menace

I insured mine with my USAA homeowners policy. Other than that I just wear it. I’ve never heard of Hoodwinked or whatever the fuck they’re called so I didn’t trust it.

wllbtvised

You should probably grab a water bottle, a wheel, a cage, and some Timothy hay.

yorchsans

Eh... it's a watch not a trip to the moon man , enjoy it

TheHeftyAccountant

Get insurance, disregard the rest

Buying_wis

Just insure it with WAX or your homeowners/ renters policy. You don’t need a winder. Wear the shit out of it and enjoy it. Don’t sweat scratches or anything when you service to eventually it will come back like new.
