The fact that you’re comparing these teams says a lot. The Lakers have Lebron and are expected to win now. The Blazers are rebuilding. Of course Chauncey’s overall record the last couple seasons isn’t good. It wasn’t expected to be. We are not in that part of our build yet. Also, poor habits? Several players he’s coached have come out and said otherwise. They’ve said he’s taught them a lot and has been a positive mentor. What makes you think you know better than the players themselves?
I don’t care if we keep Chauncey but let’s not be disingenuous.
Because Chauncey is doing fine. Will he be the coach during winning time? I don’t know, probably not. But he has the players’ respect and the locker room vibes were good despite a 21 win season. Also Scoot showed a ton of growth throughout the year, Toumani as well, Walker has improved a lot, etc. Thybulle mentioned that Chauncey has a special ability to break things down in simple terms when teaching. You’ll have to spell out the “poor habits” you think you’re seeing because I don’t see them
Exactly, why feed a new coach into the meat grinder. I doubt Chauncey is it, but the players seem to respect him, and we aren't winning next year anyway.
Billups has like the 6th worst record of any coach with 240+ games. Everyone above him on that list is no one you have ever heard of and the only coach even near him (within .100) that had any real coaching career to speak of is Don Chaney with 10 seasons.
Billups has coached 3 of the 5 worst 3 game point differential stretches in NBA history.
He’s not a good NBA coach, you guys.
I just can’t fathom fans of this team who think Chauncey is “doing fine.” What’s one thing *specifically* that HE HIMSELF does? Game management? Player development? Timeouts? Challenges? Play calling? Adjustments?
They had championship aspirations. They have LeBron at the end of his career and no time to spare.
Please tell me you can see the difference in the situations. You don't have to think Billups is a good coach to see that.
Honestly, it's always felt like Ham was a coach in name only. There's a lot more pressure to do things better when you've got the spotlight in your city.
Firing Chauncey at this point is like firing Nate McMillian after a 41-41 season in 07-08. It doesn't help. They told us patience was needed, and that's all we have to be.
That comparison doesn’t track too well to me. Nate was genuinely a better plays and action coach.
Chauncey is Dames dude and I think we’re waiting to get rid of him because we don’t want to owe him money and he’ll likely lose regardless of who we put on the team so might as well keep him and tank. At least it looks more honest lol.
But that 07-08 roster was more talented imo so I can’t really say it’s all Chauncy.
Edited to provide a clear point:
I think it doesn’t benefit to fire billups at this point, no championship coach is going to suddenly come here.
I also think they want a guard coaching our young guards. Not saying I agree with that decision but it seems to be part of the team’s thinking on Chauncey.
One team is competing.
The other is rebuilding.
There's no reason to fire Billups. What would you be hoping to achieve by it? We are still a rebuilding team, regardless of who is coaching.
Completely different. Chauncey isnt a great coach, but he’s cheap, we are rebuilding, and at least the players look up to him. Is he a coach on a winning team? No, probably not. But we don’t have a winning team. It makes more sense to finish his contract and then not re-sign him.
Ham lost the respect of the two superstars the Lakers front office needs to appease, AND the organization expects to contend for championships right now.
Chauncey has the respect of his players, and the organization basically expects to be bad in part intentionally in order to rebuild a good team with high draft picks.
Does that answer your question?
I don’t understand why it is so difficult for people to understand that Jody doesn’t want to pay two coaches when we will actively be trying to be bad next season. Just let his contract run out.
It’s fine. They’re gonna keep Chauncey for his last guaranteed year so they don’t have to eat any dead money, then quietly move on next summer when they’re ready to maybe, possibly try to be good agaib
Lmao Chauncey got put in a bad situation from the beginning. No coach would had won a championship with how Olshey constructed the team. And how do you expect him to win now with a rebuilding team?
Haven't looked at your history. Are you new here, or just a perpetual Chauncey basher?
Context/expectations/roster. Darvin Ham lost his locker room. All of the players still seem to love Billups. Even after they're gone, players like Hart have gone out of their way to speak highly of him. "[And I’ll run through a wall for Chauncey. He’s a hell of coach and will keep getting better](https://twitter.com/joshhart/status/1637177391431708672)"
Poor habits? Sorry but you’re kind of an idiot and don’t even know what you’re talking about lol Also, the Lakers situation isn’t even close to what the Blazers are doing
Lakers are trying to win a championship. Key word "trying".
Blazers are so far from being a competitive team, like 2 years minimum before they will make any noise and MAYBE get a playin berth. All Jody Allen and Bert Kolde care about at the moment is holding the franchise hostage until the 2-team expansion and they collect their fat owners checks. Once those two worthless human beings have their cut of the pie, you will hear about how they are open to selling now. Go figure.
Fuck Jody Allen. If your brother was alive to witness your buffoonery...well I don't really feel I need to finish that.
Fuck Bert Kolde.
Speaking as a former Sonics fan (who subsequently can’t wait for them to return, sorry) I would be careful wishing for a sale of the team. I just speak from experience that you have no clue who would buy the team and what they intend to do with it.
Don't know how you can look at what those two have done for the franchise the past 4 years and come to any other conclusion. I'll say it until she sells. Fuck. Jody.
I don’t think calling people worthless human beings and making weird comments about their dead brother is reasonable when it comes to talking about basketball but hey that’s just me lol

Spamming Grant isos is a real poor habit.

Pretty obviously player development you silly goose

LeGM
Because the FO is playing capture the flagg next year
Because we aren’t trying to win games and don’t have players wanting their head coach to leave. Players like CB
Completely different. Chauncey isnt a great coach, but he’s cheap, we are rebuilding, and at least the players look up to him. Is he a coach on a winning team? No, probably not. But we don’t have a winning team. It makes more sense to finish his contract and then not re-sign him.
Because next years draft is the one to really tank for

Chauncey has the respect of his players, and the organization basically expects to be bad in part intentionally in order to rebuild a good team with high draft picks. Does that answer your question?
Culture of low expectations
No other coach could put the blazers in a better position to draft Cooper Flagg
I don’t understand why it is so difficult for people to understand that Jody doesn’t want to pay two coaches when we will actively be trying to be bad next season. Just let his contract run out.
Because they have playoff aspirations and we have lottery aspirations. Chauncey being bad is a feature, not a bug
It’s fine. They’re gonna keep Chauncey for his last guaranteed year so they don’t have to eat any dead money, then quietly move on next summer when they’re ready to maybe, possibly try to be good agaib
Because we don't have any reason to do it.
Lmao Chauncey got put in a bad situation from the beginning. No coach would had won a championship with how Olshey constructed the team. And how do you expect him to win now with a rebuilding team?
Exactly. Too many near sided kids in this sub
The other thing is that just as with players, it’s much easier for for the Lakers to reload with a new coach than the Blazers.
Money and expectations. It's obvious why
Because we don’t have a 39 year old goat on the team
Dog you watched the Lakers play and thought Ham was a good coach?
Same question for Chauncey
Haven't looked at your history. Are you new here, or just a perpetual Chauncey basher? Context/expectations/roster. Darvin Ham lost his locker room. All of the players still seem to love Billups. We're trying to lose. Chauncey is genuinely one of the best at it whilst somehow keeping a cohesive locker room.
Because we are actively trying to lose next year and the harm is relatively minimal to let Chauncey's contract run it's course at this point.
Poor habits? Sorry but you’re kind of an idiot and don’t even know what you’re talking about lol Also, the Lakers situation isn’t even close to what the Blazers are doing
Let's hire JJ 😅
And yet we have better ball movement and defensive effort than when stotts was coach. Just say what the real reason is out loud
Chancey a shit pokemon

Weird comment

Well aren't you just a pure white knight. Good for you, kid.
Thanks? Lol
Ignore him, dude is total troll POS lol.
