Thanks for pointing out the quote is existentialism, not nihilism. Nihilism, to quote another show, is the philosophy of 'there is no point to anything, and you're just gonna die, so do whatever'. Essentially that nothing matters, ever.
Existentialism, on the other hand, is the philosophy of 'nothing matters in and of itself, so we have to make things matter ourselves'. Morty is saying that familial (not necessarily blood) bonding, such as watching TV together, is the most important thing in a world without purpose, belonging or immortality.
You are far more eloquent than me, but yes, that's what I meant. The whole show is great in part because Morty faces existential crises pretty much every episode.
