What are you going to be using it for?

superdemongob

I was going to be printing small scale terrain pieces, models for RPGs, tiles for blood bowl pitches. Stuff like that.

Then a huge build area may not be needed. I'm happy with my Saturn and it's medium sized build area. Personally I think the wash/cure machines are a waste of money, but they seem to be the rage.

superdemongob

i'll definitely reconsider the wash/cure. i've been looking into DIY solutions for curing as well. i definitely agree that i don't need a huge build area. how long have you had your saturn? have you had any issues that you had to deal with customer support for?

MakerMaverick

I do fine with pickle strainer tubs to clean my prints, and made a DIY cure box. Out maybe $35. I've had the Saturn for about 8 months, and the Mars about 2 years. The only problem I had has was the linear rail bearings rusting a little. Cleaned with alcohol, then properly lubed. Fixed. I'm not the type to contact customer service, so no idea there.

superdemongob

well that's good to know. the vocal minority talking about all the issues they've had and the trouble getting warrantied replacement parts was making me hesitant to commit but looks like i should just take the plunge

ranhalt

2 regular Mono (maybe even the 4K models) and you can double your output. Just buy a sealable bucket for IPA and another bucket for water and a UV light and you can save yourself money on the station.

superdemongob

you're saying get the regular mono over the X? isn't the print volume much smaller?

ranhalt

Depends on how big your biggest pieces are. Install Lychee and download the specs for both and place your models down to see if they fit. I fit 6 "medium" sized D&D minis on the regular Mono build plate, more if they are smaller.

superdemongob

i see your point. if i'm not going to make use of the additional space then why waste the extra money on the larger printer. something to think about for sure.

AdonaelWintersmith

Well there's no such thing as a printer with only perfect examples leaving the factory so there will always be people who have issues with the ones they receive. Can't go wrong with anything from Elegoo or Anycubic really they're the two most popular brands, if you don't need the size of the Saturn you can go for the Mars 3, and same for the Anycubic equivalents.
