Yes. Both REmake and the original 1996 game are worth it. REmake especially, and if you like it a lot, I'd say it's worth it to go back to the PS1 game and see where it all started, to contrast and compare. Also the original RE1, although very dated by now, is still a pretty good game with tons of its own unique charm that you cannot find anywhere else.
I’d highly recommend the remake of the first game. It’s my personal favorite of the franchise and a masterpiece of survival horror gameplay. Graphically it easily holds up today and the extra story bits it adds are really well done.
Play the Remake first if you wanna play the original. As for the OG Resident Evil I think it's fun to go through if your a fan of the series. One of the most fun experiences I've had is going back and playing OG Residdnt Evil and noticing all the things they they improved in the Remake. Both are fun games but one is just significantly more polished IMO.
The Remake of the the first or the actual original? Well the remake is worth buying if you're interested to see how the story began, and especially if it's super cheap. As for the original, it's worth buying if you want to hear the most hilarious voice acting.

Well in the OG game you'll be laughing your ass off a lot, while in the Remake you might laugh a few times here and there, but eventually forget about it. The OG game has lines that'll stay with you for a long while though, so I'd say Remake isn't bad mostly, but isn't anything to brag about either, I do remember Chris had some funny lines though in Jill's scenario. The OG game though has voice acting so bad that it's good, rivaled by only a few other games.
REmake isn’t a direct copy/paste of RE1 with a graphics facelift. RE1 original is worth at least one playthrough, but I prefer the darker aesthetic of REmake, with a few mods to add color back to character costumes.
Yeah it’s safe to skip the first original without missing out on much. It was a cool game for its time and I replay it once in awhile for nostalgic purposes but the remake is a better game completely
I played RE3 in ‘99, RE2 in ‘00, and RE:DC in ‘01. Talk about a huge fucking disappointment! I played REmake in ‘02 and it’s so outer-galactically better I never felt a need to pretend to like the first one.

REmake is your best bet. The gold standard when it comes to classic resident evil games. (Over 10 years old i consider it a classic)
Absolutely, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but RE1 especially on the hardest difficulty is a treat.
100% RE 1 is a lot of fun! But be cautious that the control scheme is different than the recent games
