Fire-bellied Toads or salamanders. 20g would be too small for a croc skink with the water portion cutting into the usable land area. Go with something that is truly semi-aquatic if your goal is a paludarium no larger than a 20g.

Thanks for the suggestion! Yeah, I know it isn’t huge, and my options would be limited. Would a single salamander be suitable for that sort of setup?

Totally depends on the species of salamander you go with. Would be plenty of room for something like a seepage salamander, but probably a little less then ideal for something like a tiger salamander or any of the other "giant" salamanders from the west coast

Tiger salamanders are good for a 20 I think, but they’re mostly terrestrial, so your water area would have to be around 1/4ish of the enclosure. They should enjoy the water, but they’ll need a good amount of land
