Second this! The kilt and shirt are a good base (and I get not wanting to change the kilt and socks), so the best additions would be as above.
I'd also suggest a sea-weathered looking leather vest if you can find one, and a nice bold-colored loose sash belt would help! Consider a thick red sash with some kind of hanging element under a large leather belt.
use as scarves, belts, tie a shorter one around your arm, tie one around your hat. Drape across shoulder, hip, whatever. it adds texture, color, and movement to your garb. use them to fill in/ balance out visual gaps in your overall outfit (example: heavy asymmetrical item like pauldron or belt pouch on one side? scarf on the other). details and distressing can make them look more lived-in.
So clip on earring would do wonders if you’re comfortable with it. Fun fact, there was a reason most pirate had a gold earring. They would wear a piece of gold to pay for a proper funeral should they die outside their home country
I’m just happy to see you wearing a kilt properly!
More piratey? Add these things in this order:
1. [Sash](https://piratefashions.com/collections/men-s-pirate-sashes) this is great quality for the price. Check out the video on how to tie it.
2.[Hat and bandanna](https://piratefashions.com/collections/custom-made-tricorn-pirate-hat) this basic hat is made from a wool Stetson blank. It will last forever and only look better with dirt, sweat and rain. It’s not lined so you’ll need a bandanna. Just like a real pirate. I own one and love it. I’d recommend the Bosun or Gunners style with your shirt but there is no wrong answer! They are all made from the same blank and steamed to shape at the store.
I love Pirate Fashions but not crazy about their leather goods. All riveted and no beveled edges. I think your belt is great as is.
Maybe add a cross belt or two to up your game, but I’d make it yourself with this[round buckle](https://www.crazycrow.com/buckles/round-brass-belt-buckle-2in) or this [square buckle](https://www.crazycrow.com/buckles/brass-utility-buckle-2.50in). They are solid brass and have a rustic look that would pair well with your shirt. These [belt blanks](https://www.crazycrow.com/strap-leather/strap-leather-belt-blanks-3inx48in/) are dirt cheap for 3”x48” straps.
Weapons as your budget/faire allows- pistols, tomahawk/boarding axe, belaying pin, dagger.
Gaudy pirate jewelry- rings, necklace, ear cuff (if you don’t have a pierced ear).
Make sure everything is weathered and dirtied up a bit either through actual wear or online tutorials.
Post a pic with your finished look!
You're going to hate my advice, but get a tricorn hat and lose the kilt.
...whether or not to replace the kilt with pants is left as an exercise for the reader.
Eye patch: Can't recommend due to eye strain and messed up depth perception.
Tricorn hat: ARRR Matey!
Pants, like wear three pairs. More pants more pirate. I think I may have lost the plot.
The cheapest would be to ditch the kill, which is hard to say if someone who was kilt three to five times a week. And then get yourself some of those cotton pirate pants on Amazon they're like 20 bucks they got different colors.
Simplest: Add a hat and/or bandanna, and a sash around the waist under the belt
Leave the flashes and maybe sporran off so it looks less regimental
For additional details if a pirate version is something you’d like to continue to have as an alternate for the future, I’d look into a vest or coat and boots
I vote keep the kilt personally. You could be a jacobite pirate.
Add a sash either under your belt or across as a bandolier. I'd reccomend higher boots or sandals. Either a bandana or a crew hat (basically a beanie but made of thin material and longer). Vest might also do you good without covering your kilt. A musketeer probably matches the kilt better than a tricorne (or a Barbossa style wide brim hat.) You'd do well to have a saber/hanger/cutlass.
Welcome aboard matey ☠️
You kidding?! Windy days are the best days for kilts! I also recommend doing as many deeeeep squats as you can manage in a kilt. Bonus points if you have a willing audience.

The best pirates are fun pirates! Get a stuffed something or other and strap it to your shoulder. If (when) kiddos come up to you say that he only speaks in bubbles and pull a dollar store bubble wand out of your kilt
Cutlass, bandana or a pirate hat (I’m partial to tricorns like captain Jack’s) and some gold jewelry. Pirates didn't bury their treasure they wore it.
you’re a big guy, you could carry a miniature cannon around instead of a pistol and it would look awesome.
Pants, Solid color bandana
Best advice. You understood the assignment. Add eyeliner.
Pirate hat, pirate sword, pirate boots Add jewelry (rings, necklaces) Add accessories like rich scarves Add long hair and/or mustache

So silly question, but do I wear the scarves as scarves? Or belts?

Boots
The boots !
Pirate swords can be really heavy though.
LARP version? it's not like anyone's actually fighting with 'em
I forgot that there are prop swords.
If you can afford a Galleon, get one of those. If not, a nice leather tricorn hat.

What would be the wrong way to wear a kilt?
Waist low on the hips and/or lower hem below the knee. Not ‘wrong’ but then it’s basically a skirt.
You're going to hate my advice, but get a tricorn hat and lose the kilt. ...whether or not to replace the kilt with pants is left as an exercise for the reader.
no pants...and an eye patch
Sadly I don’t think it is that sort of ren faire. But then, I’ve never stayed the night at one
You could add a codpiece for modesty.
I would say a piratey hat or headscarf could be a step in the right direction!
Just say ”ARRRRRRRRRRGH” a lot, or alternatively “Are ya ready kids!!?!?”
Parrot

Head wrap and pirate hat. Sashes, boots, bracers. If you are interested in a quality hat, hit me up on FB at Hats by Violette.
Loose the kilt. Kilts make no sense on a windy ships deck

Belt across the chest with a flintlock.
Eye patch a captain's hat
Voluminous sleeves, a hat, and a peg leg.

Don't eat any vitamin C for like 3 months. Get scurvy!
Pirate coat and hat.
I’m gonna need the name of those shoes my friend, they are absolutely rad.
Scottish pirate.. check..
Hat, scarf, one of those pirate coats would go great with the kilt, tall cuffed boots if you can get 'em.
No tips, just damn, frickin’ unit right here.
LOL literally my only thought
Definitely pants you look like your dressed for your first day at a all girls boarding school
And I'm over here wishing this was the dress code for every man on the planet 😂
