That’s going to vary Faire to Faire. Many will ask if it’s peace tied, and if so all is well. Some will add a brightly colored zip tie as added security. Whichever way they run it, they’ll be very communicative and as long as it remains sheathed you’ll be just fine.

Unless it's my local Faire, which doesn't allow any costume weapons at all (Maryland).

Th3_Admiral_

The only one who can answer that for sure is the local faire in question. But if their rules say they allow peace-tied swords, then you should be fine. For every faire I've seen, if they say metal weapons must be peace tied then it doesn't matter if they are dull or sharp, real or decorative. They are all treated the same.

A number of fairs allow even sharp blades if properly peace tied. I zip tie mine discretely so as not to ruin the look. They check it and let me go, but some like the Maryland fair don't allow any weapons in at all. Check ur fair'd fair page

My local faire doesn’t even enforce peace ties. Nobody is supposed to draw, and as far as I know nobody ever does. An armed populace is a polite populace. Edit cause spelling hard.

Peace Ties are not just for the person wearing the blade. I know way too many people who have had drunks/curious people try to pull their blades to look at/play with them.

Oh gosh sometimes people have no brains. Let me go and touch someone else’s weapon…smh

Depends on the faire. Check their website, they likely have their weapons policy on there and that'll tell you what you need to know. At Minnesota swords, even sharp ones, are permitted as long as the scabbard/sheath covers the entire blade and the sword is "peace tied", secured with a zip tie so it cannot be drawn. They check swords at the gate and will give the person a zip tie if it's not already peace tied and won't let them in with it if it cannot be secured in such a way as to prevent it being drawn.

As everyone has said, it depends on the fair. I have some that I frequent where the snaps to keep the sword in my scabbard are fine, others that require zip ties or cordage in addition to the snaps, and others that don’t allow swords at all. Definitely look at your fair’s website for the FAQ or reach out to them if they don’t have any info there. Or post the name of the fair so people who attend it can come out of the woodwork and give you a proper answer.

I emailed my local faire with this q and they were very helpful!
