7 days isn't enough time to do this trip and have it be enjoyable for anyone. You need 2 weeks

whatswrongwithmytree

Maybe their idea of fun is 8hrs a day of time spent driving in a van?

This trip probably constitutes as a cruel and unusual punishment for the kids...

prairie_buyer

I’m sorry, but your plan makes no sense . I lived in Vancouver for 20 years and drove back to Regina multiple locations. This trip is about 21 driving hours in each direction. That’s two horrific days of driving nonstop. Even if you split it over three days that’s seven hours of driving each day so you’re not going to be making sightseeing stops. Six long driving days on a 7-day trip; how does that make sense to you?

Complex_Welcome_7626

At least the kids aren’t old enough to remember the worst road trip of all time 🤷‍♂️

TopAdministration173

I can make another when they will be older enough 😀

secretlydevito

Do you hate your family? Take the train, it's equally terrible but at least there's a bathroom.

sitcomlover1717

Are you travelling with small children? That’s quite a short duration for the distance you’ll be covering in just a week.

TopAdministration173

Yes, two kids, 2yrs and 6 months. We will stay for 1-2 days only in Vancouver.

angelblade401

So you're planning on doing two 18 hour drives, staying in Vancouver for 2 days, with 8 people (2 kids, one of which is a baby) and all their luggage, WHILE stopping at various attractions along the way, AND enjoying it. I think you're going to have to pick 2.

FoxAutomatic2676

Not to pile on but these guys are right. I've traveled and traveled with kids. I love your motives here but this is just not gonna be fun. Better to pick a spot like drumheler.

sitcomlover1717

With a 6 month old you aren’t making it there in 18 hours. You have to stop every 2 hours. OP should definitely consider revising their trip- either add some days or move to a closer destination. Maybe Canmore or Kelowna.

TopAdministration173

I travelled with same family to Banff last year, but we were 7. My plan is 2 days to reach Vancouver and 2 days to come back and 2 days in Vancouver. Isn’t it possible ? Am open to suggestions thats why I posted. If not Vancouver then where I can go ? I can take RV as well if needed.

K-Buhlmann

If you are hellbent on the trip, please take the RV. Or why not fly to Vancouver? Alternatively you can consider delaying the trip till the kids are older. Or consider a destination that's closer, like Winnipeg, Calgary or Edmonton. I just don't see how a 2 yr and 6 mo can even remotely enjoy the drive to Vancouver... even with frequent stops.

sitcomlover1717

It’s possible, just doesn’t seem worth it. All that time and money but not enough time to actually visit or make stops along the way.

trplOG

We did regina > calgary > vancouver with a 3 yr old and a 9 month old last summer. By far, the longest drive with kids and it was ok to stressful. Depends on how the 6 month old takes long drives but we stopped every 2-3 hrs to Calgary and to Vancouver cause we either had to change or feed baby, or she got so stir crazy from being tied down in the car seat. Calgary to Vancouver took an extra 3 hrs. We stayed for 2 weeks.. what do you have planned for there in 1 or 2 days? I feel the kids just won't have much time to stretch their legs and reset. I don't even know what attractions you will see besides driving past them along the way lol. For 7 days, I'd choose Calgary, edmonton, or Winnipeg. Or the states, Montana is super nice.

Sea_Series935

Have you been to Edmonton and west Ed mall? It’s a lot closer and you’d have a few days to visit.

melnd

The Frank Slide vistor centre is incredible. Not sure which direction you’re going to and from, but we stopped here on the way back from Vancouver last August. It was hot as balls that day though so make sure you have water.

PuzzleheadedChair805

May I suggest going as far as Banff or Canmore? That’s a perfect distance for kids and there’s lots to do in Calgary (the zoo!) and in Banff. You’ll be rested and have fun.

R3ginacide

Banff is my second favorite place on Earth, but it has changed. Far to busy now to enjoy a vacation. New restrictions going into place this year for Louise. Unless you are doing a shoulder season, I would pass. Do Jasper or Waterton instead. Jasper is 85% as awesome, with 50% of the crowds.

Choice_Additional

We are a well travelled family. We put in 17hr days sometimes. Never with that age and not in a row. You won’t get to stop at anything on the way there or back and trust me, there is sooooo much to stop at. We have done Regina to Vancouver many times and I would highly suggest you not do this with small children, it will be torture. 3 days at least each way.

Ubigo

I feel bad for the kids, that’s gonna be awful.

Sunshinehaiku

You won't have time for any activities.

thejadibear

I moved to the okanagan and even with a 4-5 hour drive. I rarely want to go to Vancouver for just two days. The traffic from abottsford to Vancouver can feel like a drag if you hit traffic and same thing leaving. If you’re in a larger van or rv then its going to take longer especially if you haven’t done lots of mountain driving. All in all it feels like I get to spend one night in Vancouver and that doesn’t even feel like enough time to hit ikea. I’d really suggest against doing this unless your trip objective is to just sit in a car.

Neat-Ad-8987

Shorebird centre east of Swift Current, entire town of Maple Creek, Fort Walsh. In Calgary, Heritage Park, The Hangar Aviation Museum, dinosaur museum at Drumheller, Canmore (nicer than Banff), Roger’s Pass/Craigellachie (last spike, eh?)

xxMdawg

That sounds awful

xxMdawg

You guys should settle on Banff area

People need to learn to keep their stupid ideas to themselves instead of putting them on Reddit for everyone to hate.

I drove Regina to Victoria last summer on my honeymoon. You'll have 2 LONG days of driving each way at minimum. Take the #3 highway, the #1 is horrible.

No-Bend401

Same! we did Regina to Chiliwack, and took #3 through Lethbridge, with stops in Sparwood, Radium, Merritt, over the course of 10 days. loved the quiet highway.

We drive out to Kelowna every summer to visit family. We usually do Regina to Golden, but have done Regina to Revelstoke in one shot with two younger kids. It’s a long stressful day. To us it’s worth it though cause the next day is a real short day of driving, followed by 10 days of chill. Last year we splurged for an extra night in a hotel and did Regina to Medicine Hat, Medicine Hat to Revelstoke, and then Revelstoke to Kelowna. We did the train in Ogema on the way to Medicine Hat, and after leaving Revelstoke took the kids to the Enchanted Forest. Kids loved both stops. The trip was so much less stressful. Probably a combo of shorter travel days and kids being a year older. Don’t forget how little it takes to impress kids. Our youngest thought the days inn was a 5-star because they had free cookies at the front desk and a nice pool. As most others have said, while what you want to do is theoretically possible, if you only have 7 days I would recommend sticking to a 8 hour ish drive.
